  1. I must admit to a certain fascination with Kourtney. What is the cause of her flat/blunted affect and her stupendous ability to make everything, every single thing All About Her? How can she approach every single encounter with such a mind boggling ability to NEVER EVER even attempt to look at an issue from any perspective but her own? Her only solution that I have heard is to complain how she is impacted and apparently think the world and everyone in it should jump to changing their ways so poor Kourtney can do whatever she wants without blowback. Is it perhaps organic, or did some unthinkable thing happen to her that she is not in touch with? It is mind boggling to me that someone can live a selfish life like this without even thinking about her own behavior and how it might be the cause of her problem. That level of cluelessness is amazing. All these musings IMO, of course.
  2. Now THAT would explain so much about Kylie.
  3. What continuously amazes me about these characters is the depth and breadth of their superficiality. Their introspective skills are non existent. It seems that their only way of looking at things include four basic thought processes: how will this play on TV and in the media how will others react on those platforms how can I spin this so that I can demonstrate how blameless I am and how little responsibility I bear for this To preface every sentence with the word "I" and be completely unaware of my impact on others. Kourtney, you come immediately to mind. As a prime example, let's look at their relationships with men. In spite of multiple marriages and traumatic breakups, not one of them ever questions why they are in the situation in the first place. They are always the "woman done wrong." What aberrant needs draw them to the men they choose? They seem to show not one ounce of responsibility for their choices. Wouldn't you think the thought might cross their minds to question why this keeps happening? And what a comforting thought that with the large number of up and coming moneymakers (the children) raised by these idiots who will certainly learn poor behaviors and values from the ground up and be available for exploitation forevermore. Prime candidate for dysfunctional self absorption, IMO: North West. Why, you might ask, do I watch something that so distresses me? Well, I am watching the entire Hulu storehouse of seasons, and will probably watch season 20 when available. This failing on my part is that I am apparently a raging completist, and can't really cross it off my list without finishing it. Much to my horror.
  4. It seems to me that the dysfuntion we see in the Kardashian Kidz can be traced back to momager Kris. The values she has consistently demonstrated are self evident in the way her children approach life, their elevation of looks and materialism over everything else, their lack of introspection, their manipulation of every (IMO staged) moment of their life for views and notoriety, their inability to see what could possibly be offensive about their behavior, choices, thoughts, their inability to maintain relationships, and their general cluelessness to the realities of the world. So terribly sad, even if they can fly in private planes.
  5. double post, still in Kris: Pimp Momager thread
  6. I'd pay good money to hear a duet with Brittany Howard and Katie. Here's Brittany: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyW5Zz0w1zg
  7. New to this forum, hi all. Here are the things that bother me about this program: 1. Too formulaic. 2. I don't understand why the participants have to "cold turkey" to prove themselves eligible for weight loss surgery. Wouldn't it make sense and lead to a better outcome to have them start working with a therapist AND a nutritionist from day 1 of their weight loss journey? It seems that many if not most of them came from families whose food habits were at the very most marginal. I always learned that if ignorance was the problem, education was the answer. Not trying to be too simplistic here, obviously there are more and deeper reasons for their obesity than lack of exposure to proper nutrition. But I think it would be helpful to expose them to concepts they might not know. For instance, how to make low calorie versions of food they like. Or the relationship between the amount of calories necessary to gain or lose one pound. Or any number of techniques to get through a craving. Simply throwing them back into the same environment that fostered the initial problem without giving them any tools seems unnecessarily severe to me.
  8. Maybe the new cop is an SVU version of Andy Sipowicz, the perennially angry detective from NYPD Blue? Or perhaps her feistiness will be tamed by a hoarse whisper encounter with her Captain.
  9. Touches on the points several of you have addressed.
  10. Finally had time to watch this entire interview. I am sputtering at SVU creator Dick Wolf saying that Mariska is the "mother of Me Too." I am not disputing her work in sexual assault and untested rape kits, but she is NOT the mother of the Me Too movement. And another thing, since Mariska is moved to tears by the effect Olivia Benson has had on her life, it doesn't surprise me that the hoarse whisper has insinuated itself into her real life persona.
  11. CBS Sunday Morning: Mariska Hargitay, the avenging angel of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"
  12. (moved here from episode 1 thread) So Olivia's first act as Captain is to go into the field to the hospital to interview a rape victim herself? I guess when you only have to manage two people (only Rollins and Fin left, right?) in your department you have a lot of spare time on your hands. And...now she is going to the rape victim's apartment for further expenditure of Captain's wage level sleuthing. Then when Rollins tells her they have a hit from a military data base on one of the semen samples, after Olivia asks if it is Nick or Julie's: I spy another acting technique involving narrowing of the eyes in a frenetic manner added to the dropped open mouth technique, I think meant to demonstrate disbelief. Hahaha, best line: Olivia asks Reagan how traces of semen were found in her Invisaligns. Stellar police work here: Plethora of hoarse voice technique this episode. Thank goodness for Fin. Oh great, Billy Joel Uptown Girl earworm. And in one final hoarse whisper, it ends with Olivia triumphant once again.
