Not germane to the show, but: that's some seriously janky photoshop work in the promo pic. The dog-holding fella seems to have dislocated his left leg.

Yeah no it's REAL bad. They're obviously not together, obviously not on the beach, AND they've all been retouched within an inch of their lives. They didn't even try to hide it either; their individual cast photos are the exact same pics.

I'll watch especially if Adam will be recapping it each week!

Aw, that's so sweet of you! But I will not. And I would feel very guilty if that's why you watched. (But no judgment if you want to watch for any other reason!)

I was gonna give it a try anyway. I guess I'm the only person on the planet that enjoyed Finding Prince so I should flip for this.

Oh Justin, you're cute. But a bear, you aren't.

Also, having him be considered the "fat" one, or the one with "body issues", just goes to show that even the gay community can body shame with the best of them.

Episode 1 introduced the inhabitants of the house quite nicely, some are quite likable, some not so much.  I'm more of a Cherry Grove person so it's nice to see how the other half lives.  The aerial shot of the houses in the Pines along the shore with their massive pools was stunning.

It wasn't as dreadful as I feared.  The show can only be as good as it's casting, and some of them have potential.  The manufactured drama wasn't any worse than any of the Housewives.  I may be jaded, in my early 50s and out for 30+ years, but the show really seems dated, as if it is trying to re-create the 80s and 90s.  (I had the same issue with Real ONeals.)   I endured the A List, so I'll likely keep tuning in.

They all annoy in one way or another but Cheyenne is the worst IMO. Why the fuck are you even at Fire Island? Needy Jorge comes in second. Patrick has no sense of timing but at least he seems pretty fun to be around. If I was  there I'd wanna party, too. He shouldn't bring a party to the house every day though obviously.

Also, half the group having a boyfriend? Boo-ring.

Meh it was OK.  Not omg I am living for this but OK.  If I have to listen to Justin say I'm Not comfortable with my body blah blah blah I was gonna blarf.  Gah we get it you're the token ugly pretty guy.  What the fudge?

Are you me? I don't know if you were on TWoP when A List was airing. Our joke was that the show wasn't "A List: New York", but instead "a list: New York" which explained the basic bullshit cast. Don't even get me started on "a list: Dallas."

How is it that nearly everyone in the cast has a boyfriend?

  • Khasan, who doesn't realize his bestie is a tiny bit in love with him, has one.
  • Jorge, who doesn't realize he's a little bit in love with Khasan, has a boyfriend back in Venezuela along with his career as a doctor?!?!? I guarantee that Jorge is on a long term semipermanent break with both his boyfriend and medicine.
  • Justin, the artistic one with body issues, has a boyfriend.
  • So does Cheyenne, the prudish exhibitionist attention whore.

So our only truly single cast members are Patrick and Brandon, Patrick who has no home training and baby Brandon who is cute, out in 2016, and likely had a parade of dick and ass since he went off to college in New York City, but is wide-eyed and overwhelmed on Fire Island.

I was on the fence about whether or not I would watch this show but damn you lazy afternoon with nothing on TV.  The levels of hot messness of this show is epic.  Basically LOGO is saying fuck the pretense, this show is about dick, ass, hook ups and drama.  This show in essence highlights the superficial vapidness of the “Chelsea scene” in NY.  The most telling moment was when the queens were on the yacht with the older Fire Island residents and they were sharing with them the freedom that FI represented in the 80’s  as an enclave of acceptance and safety for gay men.  And Cheyenne in an attempt to show his depth compares it to the FI of today saying it has the same significance and is so accepting.  What he failed to mention is that yes it is accepting if you are a white gay male with no body fat.  I live in NYC and have been to FI so I know the real deal.

My initial reaction to Justin was "How'd the `fat guy` get on this show?" because this type of show never includes men with average or stocky builds.

My sense of TV literacy tells me that at least one of them will end up cheating on their bf, generating all sorts of boring dramatics. The anticipation is boring me.

BTW does "doctor" mean something else in Venezuela because what I know of doctoring there tends to be very little overlap between physician and thirsty attention whore galavanting around a foreign city where he is not allowed to practice medicine or likely hold any job all summer long.

I was wondering that as well.  Besides his Masters in partying (blarf) I wish more was mentioned of him being a doctor..... just one picture of him in scrubs doesn't really say anything.

Has it been established that Jorge actually practices in the USA?  I knew he had a Venezuelan degree, but I don't know if that translates to US practices.  I just assumed he was one of the top 3 professions of Pines denizens:  stylist, dancer or personal trainer.

Just looked him up on Facebook and he's listed as a DJ!  The fourth most popular profession in the Pines!

The thing is that Jorge while sufficiently giving off a Coo Coo for cocoa puffs vibe his level of obsession is alarming.  That level of clingy-ness doesn’t come from just friendship – THEY FUCKING.  I don’t recall if Khasan or Jorge denied they are fucking but I think they are.

Jorge seems like a bunny boiler – just sayin.

They claim that they're platonic friends only.  And quite frankly I get a girlfriend vibe from these two, definitely not a lover vibe.

I'm fairly certain Jorge's 'obsession' is producer-directed.

Agreed. I wonder how far in advance they selected the cast?  Presumably the show was taped last summer.  It doesn't seem like a great idea to choose a bunch of semi-committed types, especially since the other halves aren't likely in the picture and all the action happens on weekends.  I saw that there are only seven episodes in the season. so is it just seven weekends in 2016?

A DJ?!  Are you friggin kidding me?!  As far as his behavior goes I got a producer vibe as well.  As if someone off screen is encouraging him to be the crazy one for extra screen time

I guess what pinged my more than friends radar was that, outside of clinginess, he commented on how he had “won” because Khasan chose to spend time with him over the BF. This is strange to me because if you are just friends, even BFF’s, wouldn’t you be a lil more understanding that it’s the 1st weekend that your BFF’s boyfriend  and he are in the same place and would understandably want to spend private time together? Why as a “friend” would you want to get in the way of that?   Jorge just seems a tad too insistent to establish his status in Khasan’s life as being #1

Well he's showing a whole new side this week; cheating HO! He's unhappy Fabio is working back home so Jorge feels entitled to have a piece on the side on FI! This has happened before and Khasan appears to be covering for him! ;-)

Cheyenne is the only one remotely entertaining in confessionals.

The thing that Bravo and The Real Housewives have taught me is that there is no substitute for fame and publicity. It doesn't matter if you are:

  • a fairly successful actress (Eileen Davidson and Lisa Rinna of Beverly Hills),
  • a billionairess (Adrienne Maloof of Beverly Hills),
  • a respected journalist (Carole Radziwill of New York),
  • a successful restaurateur (Lisa Vanderpump of Beverly Hills),
  • a decently respected socialite (Lea Black of Miami and to a lesser extent Tinsley Mortimer of New York),
  • an attorney (Phaedra Parks of Atlanta and Gina Liano of Melbourne),
  • a successful real estate developer (Mohamed Hadid of RH of Beverly Hills, RH of Miami, Shahs of Sunset, Million Dollar Listing: LA, and Second Wives Club),
  • a disgraced politician trying to rebuild your political career (Thomas Ravenel of Southern Charm),
  • a doctor (Drs. Jackie, Simone, and Heavenly of Married to Medicine: Atlanta, almost all of the women on Married to Medicine: Houston are doctors, Dr. Paul Nassif of Beverly Hills and Botched, and Dr. Terry Dubrow of RH of Orange County, The Swan, Bridalplasty, Botched, and Good Work), or
  • actual nobility (any of those dopes on Secret Princes, the Earl of Sandwich on Ladies of London, and Caroline Fleming of Ladies of London, Denmark's Next Top Model, the Baroness Moves In, and the show she had renovating her family's castle).

If you've been bitten by the fame bug, there is nothing else that will satisfy you. Terry Dubrow's wife was on the Real Housewives of Orange County and he has his own show, Botched. Terry wanted on the OC so badly that he forged his wife's signature on the contract. Carole Radziwill was a respected journalist who has an Emmy and a Peabody award, but she's spent the past couple of years acting a fool on Real Housewives of New York. So Jorge giving up a medical practice, does not surprise me.

All gorgeous in different ways, but unlikeable in the same vein! I wish I knew why Patrick was so "on the rag" kvetchin' about everything like a little b!tch! For someone who "lets it all hang out," his insecurities are showing! I see where Cheyenne's coming from, but I wouldn't have put myself in that position of having to cohabitate with inconsiderate jerks, Ho's, and slobs! Mon Dieu, Jorge's needy! He drags Khazan around like his personal security blanket! Poor Jallen; "don't pine for an immature Ho like Brandon!" Just a little commentary OTTH! ...

With all the unbridled sexuality, rampant drug use, excessive drinking, scant clothing, sun, sand, ocean and severe shade in The Pines, these producers pick the most boring jerks on the island.  Parental visits?  Dirty Kitchens?  Speedos left on counters?  The Drama!

LOL!  I guess cause its the first season the producers are unsure of what or how much to show?  *shrug*  I'm sure there has to be much more interesting stuff happening in their lives but idk, arguing over mundane shit is a little dull.

All the guys seem relatively likeable people.  No raging divas like on housewives shows.....

Patrick's wearing the crown so far with Brandon his "lady in waiting!" When I was that age, I had to be like Justin; sober, keeping everyone on keel, and to be the voice of reason! To this day I'm still thought of as "their mother" so the cards and calls still come in May on SUNDAY after 30+ years! ...

I think it would help a lot if they were at the island all summer instead of just on the weekends. I don't think I would have bothered tuning in if I had realized they'd only be there on the weekends, and thus have plenty of time to defuse the drama and junk.

I'm getting kinda bored with the samey samey boring drama.

A smattering? That b!tch is in full "Erica Kane" mode! He started that fracas at dinner...

Spoiler

and now the preview shows him being even more pathetic by "ratting out" Cheyenne to his BF next week!

I knew he was an insecure sleaze, but to be a petty, vengeful b!tch on top of it, I have no sympathy for him or Chris who's getting re-involved with Patrick! ...

Yeah, Patrick is a total shit-stirrer.  But then, at least there was finally some drama on the show.  Pointless and stupid drama, but at least it was drama.  What they really should have done this season is fill the house with a bunch of Patricks and Cheyennes.

I started to feel sorry for Patrick's friend, but then he started talking about Mercury, and I had to laugh at him.  Oh, well.
