S11.E05: Big Surprises

We're the fluffy vets in a break from Seasonique or some yearly birth control, and we're getting their poofyness out during the summer right before the season started? Those quarterly and yearly birth control/cycle regulators can really make you super bloated and puffy when your at the point where if wears off and your trying to induce your period.

They were all so much bigger at once, in the off season, it's just weird - Danielle, Jenn k, Melissa, Megan, etc. 

Yuko - seems like a sweet girl and hard worker. I like her as a person. As a dancer, she does not keep up or have DCC style. Id love to know the backstory because she has to have some corporate sponsor or something. Anyone else that lost would be gone. They absolutely make excuses for her.

Cersten killed Denise's routine as well. She's an awesome dancer. I don't really care if she's a bitch. She's good.

We haven't seen Cersten being bitchy in the show, but we have seen her dance, and she is definitely a showstopper.

Yesterday I hadn't gotten past the first few minutes, and I'll admit, that tent dress wasn't the most flattering in other areas, but I have an obsession with legs and Kelli's got great ones, not just for a woman of her age, but overall! The denim dress was a big ol question mark for me..bless, it just wasn't cute. 

I agree with all of you about Bethany. I started to notice her crazed stare last episode. It's bad, dare I say worse than Emily bad. 

And Judy reminds me of my mom(both in appearance and in the way she acts), which comforts me and terrifies me lol. When she was getting onto Kelsey, I felt like I was 14 again getting scolded by my mother: "Do you not do it 100%?!?" "Yes, mama, sorry, mama" ? as daggers shoot from her eyes. 

Celinda's stomp was annoying and uncomfortable to watch! Maybe they should bring in Ms Jay from ANTM next season and teach these girls how to WERK.

Loved Denise. Her choreo style was different and "fresh" as k&j would say. It definitely weeded out the weaker contenders from the strong ones. A nice change for sure.

I'm not done with the episode yet, but based on your opinions about Pickler, I cannot wait.

Yes, she does that well but I'd like to see more.   Her center split wasn't as good as we've seen from her.  Holly's done the same moves over and over but it has a certain spark like she breathes new life into it each time! Melissa's second turns with the leg lift at the end did nothing but make her rolls show.

Agree with the other comments about Kacey Musgrave coming across as flat. She made a few cute comments and said she was happy to be there etc.  but her expression didn't match her words.  Someone used the word robotic. She had a blank look on her  face and no expression in her eyes or smile.  She seemed nice enough and pretty though.

Re: Judy: same. Lord, if you knew my mom, you'd be in total agreement! She can be scary! I was actually kinda shocked Judy called Kelsey out like that..I mean, we've seen Judy get stern before, but not like that that I can recall. You've got a decade on me and the fact it made us both feel like kids getting in trouble is funny. 

Judy's hair should have its own fanpage. It's so damn gorgeous. And having hair look that beautiful all the time in that Texas humidity ain't easy! I need to know what hair products she uses STAT ?

Also, Lisa the seamstress is one of my favorite people on the show. She always makes me laugh.

Yes!! I don't think we've ever seen her have a bad hair day! Down here in Florida, it's still hot as hades and when the weather gets cooler (at this rate, next to never? Lol??) we call it "hair weather" 

You're so right about her clothes too! She always looks put together and youthful yet age appropriate. I want to know which top you're talking about! Also, I swear I still see them wear VS Pink Dallas Cowboys attire but they don't even have any NFL online at VS anymore...I wonder if they just sell it at stores locally? It's the same thing with Clemson, where my fiancé graduated from, they have every other school online but not them. But, I have seen VS Clemson stuff, so they must sell it SOMEWHERE. Just me thinking out loud ?

I don't think Tia was ever called in for weight.  At least not with the others (Meredith, Megan S, Jordan B, Kaitlin I, and rookie Stephanie) unless it wasn't shown.

My husband watches this with me sometimes ( uniform fittings lol) and when she shows up superimposed on the bottom of the screen we both shout "Get off the screen "!!   Also, neither of us knew who Kasey Musgrave was and I was distracted by that awful shirt she wore as well as her goth black hair and eyebrows.

Did this person watch the same show?  Kyndall did not quit her job; she said she was "released". Misspelled Kasey's name with a C.  If I was writing a blog on a TV show I would at least DVR it and take notes to get things right.

Too bad I didn't save the episode on my DVR. I wish I could make a GIF of Kelli's weird look she makes at Kelsey when Kelsey promises to perform better during the office visit. Kelli scrunched up her face and it screamed bull poo-poo. I was so shocked at Kelli my mouth fell open. The only other time I saw Kelli do that was when Chelsey exploded for being called fat back in season 8 I think? It is one thing to embarrass yourself on TV. It is another to have Kelli and now Judy humiliate you in front of the other girls, production, and the audience. I feel so so sorry for Kelsey. 

After this episode, I am team Khalyn. I never realized how beautiful she is. She is wow in my book.

 I don't understand how Allie did not get called in after uniform fittings. In the past several girls were cut for not looking attractive in the uniform. I like Allie but sorry that uniform will never look right on her body due to her proportions not weight. Another weird decision that got glossed over because Kelli had to seethe at Kelsey.

Lastly, Yuko was a blob of a mess this episode. Is she likeable and adorable? Did her tears melt your heart?  Hell yeah! 

But can she dance DCC style? Is she big and bold? Is she sexy? Does she have the right Visa like she is supposed to have BEFORE tryouts? Ummm...no. 

Wow, it really is sweet to be a Kelli favorite. Unfair but sweet.

Oh gosh...Celinda's intro was relegated to a deleted scene? :-/  Eep.  She is OK.  But I don't think she's dynamic enough yet overall to be a DCC...so far she has kind of been under the radar, I believe? Her reasons for wanting to be a DCC tho...LOL  I admit it was kind of refreshing to hear "their great hair, perfect tans, etc." over the usual "I am just DYING to do all the charity work they participate in!! i so want to make a difference in the lives of sick people and children!" 

Loved seeing all the tricks these girls can do! dang!!!

Totally agree about the Belk outfits, some are super cute, some are better suited for Boca...but in regards to Jenn K, my goodness, whoever said that the person who dressed her hates her may be onto something..it was awful! And we all know Jenn K is beautimus! I saw her about to walk out on the runway and I just KNEW this was the outfit you guys had talked about! 

Off topic completely, but I read somewhere that Nina from who knows what season (an earlier one for sure) got violent after being cut?! Could anyone elaborate on this because I must have missed it! Apologies in advance to the mods ??

Yes, she was a fan favorite on season 5 with Katherine McPhee and Daughtry.  I realize she isn't a favorite of this forum but I have always liked Pickler and her music.  The dumb blonde isn't that much of an act.  I remember Simon Cowell giving her a hard time because she had never had calamari.

Finally realized Kacey Musgraves was on Nashville Star back in 2007. I knew she looked familiar! Didn't really care for her on the show, just a bland personality, which seems to be the same. If they're going to have former Nashville Star alums on, bring on Chris Young :)

Had a chance to re-watch. That trapeeze dress is all sorts of wrong. Maybe with leggings or pants, but not bare legged. I'm 47 and bustier than Kelli. I wouldn't wear that. It makes her look bigger. 

Bethany's eyes bug me more than Emily's. I feel like they just don't like Emily. 

Kelli's face when Kacey said she wasn't sold on Yuko. That spoke volumes. "I am contractually obligated not to agree with that opinion or acknowledge it". Don't get me wrong, I think Yuko is adorable and I like her. I just feel they're lavishing more praise than I'm seeing her deserve from what's been shown. 

Kelsey can really keep her poise when she needs to and I think Kelli is expecting her to breakdown and cry. Go, Kelsey! I think she bought some time because she didn't cave in and cry. Good for her.

Kyndall getting her uniform from last season. Can you imagine being that close and getting cut? I feel bad she was let go from her job.

The uniform fit Jessika & Bethany perfectly. 

Poor Allie, she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her, but the uniform was NOT flattering on her at all. 

Not sad to see Jackie go. She had a flat affect personality. I notice they didn't encourage her to return. 

I do think the tall girl Lindsay should try again. She has a great smile, just needs to "pop" when performing. Hard to overcome years of training to be smooth. 

Belk fashion show reminds me of back-to-school shopping with my grandma in the 70s/80s. I doubt you'll get the "DCC Look" at Belk. Do love getting to see the vets!

Wish they had actually said Jacie was assisting with the guest choreographer. Love, love, love Jacie's curls!

The drink Yuko was holding in her hand, walking in to practice, almost looked like a draft beer. I'm sure it was iced tea, but it made me double-take when I saw it. 

This is the 5th show and I still don't know whether I like Tasha or not.

I think Ms. J is in China somewhere.  I know he's filming "Make Me a Supermodel 3" or something like that  If I remember correctly, one of his last Facebook pages said they were down to the final 3 or something like that.  Still, I would love to work with him and Mr. Jay (because I can't do makeup worth a darn).  Those guys are a HOOT!  Anyways, I envy those girls getting to work with both Michelle Keys and Neecie Nash because the dances shown were AH-mazing.  Now, if I could only dance. . . .

It depends on your definition of reject. She finished in sixth place (out of twelve finalists) which is middle of the pack. To me, an Anerican Idol reject is someone who doesn't make it past the open auditions round. I'm not a Kellie Pickler fan, but she did get decently far on her season.

This was alluded to earlier but having a work permit is a complicated and time consuming process if you are not a citizen. It's not like going to a gas station to buy a lottery ticket where you're in and out in five minutes. I work at a university with a lot of international post-docs and they have to have proof that we have hired them BEFORE they can apply for a work permit to come here. That means Yuko had to come here on a holiday visa (which does not allow you to work), make it through auditions, get paperwork from DCC (and possibly CMT? I'm not sure how that works - are the girls paid for their participation on MTT?) showing that she has been hired, and then submit an application for a work visa.

Per the U.S. Department of State:

Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. Temporary worker visas are for persons who want to enter the United States for employment lasting a fixed period of time, and are not considered permanent or indefinite. Each of these visas requires the prospective employer to first file a petition with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). An approved petition is required to apply for a work visa.

My husband is an immigrant. He immigrated to the US to marry me. (Not, like, in a green card kind of way. We met in graduate school and had a baby. Decided to return to the US to live instead of England, which was more expensive at the time.) I know the immigration process backwards and forwards. What he did, and what Yuko might have done, is enter the US through the Visa Waiver Program. You're allowed to stay X many days without a visa. Yuko could have done this and then, once she made TCC, applied for the work visa. This probably meant, however, that they knew they were going to keep her from the beginning. My husband applied for his visa, a fiance visa, in November. Our son was born in March. (This was 9 years ago.) Although we were living in the US at the time, he was not a citizen or working. He was just here on the visa waiver program. When his fiance visa suddenly came through, he had 10 days to fly back to England, go through the interview and medical process, and fly back. I am thinking this is what happened to Yuko and why she said she had to return. They probably applied for her work visa as soon as she made it through the first round. We had zero notice. We got the letter one day and he literally had to fly out the next. He then had 3 days to fly back to the US. So he got the approval letter, flew to England for the interview and medical exam, and flew back in less than a week. It took around 8 weeks from that point for him to get his work permit. He only had to pay the processing fee for the work permit, nobody had to sponsor him since he was here on the fiance visa. Once the visa came through we had 90 days to marry. This is why our "real" wedding anniversary date is different from the day we actually got married in front of our family and friends. 

In short, there is very little notice on when these things are going to come through and how long they will take. Every country is different, however. He was from England so he didn't have to have a visa to come over, only a visa to work and live here full-time.

Just re-watched this episode and it occurred to me that Kelli wore that horrible trapeze dress because of the whole boot thing. They probably knew about, maybe even planned for, the whole "I'm giving you a pair of my boots" thing, so she had to have a dress on, and a short one at that, to show off the boots. I thought it was way too short for her. Judy was also wearing a dress. But for someone who dictates what looks good on the cheerleaders, Kelli is sadly in need of a stylist herself. Does she not recognize how awful she looks when she watches this program? She has a gorgeous face and pretty hair, but she needs some help in choosing her wardrobe.

I hate that they're being so mean to Kelsey, yet seeming to bend over backwards for some of the other girls. I think Yuko is cute and I understand that this is hard for her and she is homesick, but it's a choice she made. I can't really feel sorry for her when she doesn't really need to be here, and I haven't seen anything in her performance yet that wows me or stands out.

Late posting this week as I was on vacay but the first thing I watched once I got back was DCC MTT. LOL. 
Oh Lord Kelly with this black and white dress. NOOOOOO! The blue jean dress makes her chest area look less perky. Please hire a stylist. Kelly. PLEASE! You are too gorg not to!
I admit... I don't know who Casey Musgrove is as I'm. It a huge country music follower. Vets Jennifer, Melissa and Megan look soft in their mid-sections. l liked the segment of the vets dancing to Casey's song and showcasing their talents. Holly. YES. LOVE! 
This Q& A with Casey is random as heck.  This entire first segment is random. Other than her star earrings and being from Texas... the relevancy is not here for me. She's super sweet though. 
Yay Auto Amy & Tasha for their compliments. Kelly and Judy dancing in their gifted boots is hilarious!!! 
Jackie and these mistakes. Ugh. She's not ready. I agree with the decision to cut her. (SN: Have any of the fan voted-in candidates made the team?)
Bethany does nothing for me. Tall Lindsay either... she needs more power, but I see potential in her to come back again. 
Kelli has a sweet and genuine spirit. I really like her. 
The vets in the bell show was nice. Nice to see Jacie in the audience as well. 
Celinda was super awkward on the runway. Vet Holly's white dress with the cape was amazing and Vet Lacey looked killer in her swimsuit. 
Loved watching the hip hop dance aka Holly's routine. LOL. YAY for Jacie assisting! Yuko def struggled. *sad face* I think she was just having an off night. I just love her personality! Visa issues are tough! My family went through that when we immigrated to the States in the 90's and the cost and stress involved is immeasurable. Kyndall is still vanilla to me. That's tough that she lost her job due to DCC. 50-yard Kelsey is soooo beautiful. I'm just rooting for her because I adore her. 
Hey CMT...can we get a new opener? Abigail, Trisha, and company were soooooo long ago. It would be great to see newer DCC.

Loren was a Fan Vote winner who made the team. I believe Ashley Pro won but was it the year she finally made the squad? I can't recall.  I know Vivian, Colby, and Jackie were all FV winners who were cut.

Observations from this episode:

Jackie was cut and told to be more fluid. Lindsay was cut because she was too fluid. What does fluid mean anyway? 

They never showed if Kyndall's uniform from last year still fit. She never got no offer to help with finding a job from Kelli  like Courtney and Danielle did on previous seasons. However Kelli did say "We can help you as much as we can". Wonder what the meant? It also seemed like they wanted Kyndall to concentrate on TC and not worry about finding a job.  JHMO.

Kelsey got a warning so I hope she gets better. Didn't TXStar say Kelsey was called in and warned about something?

Kelli did explain that "marking it" meant doing only 50%. I guessed I missed it the first time.

When Amy Simone was on the runway (which looked fine to me) why did Judy say she didn't do a last look and ran off stage?
