@ShellyB this game was originally supposed to be an away game.  Will the girls cheer?

Kelli posted on twitter that the DCC and Cowboys perhaps former ones were going to host the game and were going have Operation Help Houston.  They were to prepare for pregame and Percussion Halftime.  I think it will be on CBS 4-7 pm

I don't buy that for one second. They've been bragging for DECADES about how many tours they've done. More than anyone including Bob Hope. In the past, they've done camps and autograph sessions in addition to the show group performance. And we also know how entrenched this organization is in their traditions. So the idea that they just decided "you know what? let's not do the show anymore" doesn't hold water. My guess is that the military tightened up security and/or applied restrictions that made it difficult to take the show on the road. Perhaps they reduced the amount of people or equipment they could bring. Maybe they decided that a big group of cheerleaders was too much of a high profile target. Maybe it's political correctness. With more and more women in the military it does seem like an anachronism to bring in a bunch of scantily clad 20 year olds to shake their thangs for a bunch of howling, hooting, salivating men. Maybe the USO wants to take their entertainment in a more family oriented direction. I'd believe almost anything over the DCC simply deciding they didn't want to do it anymore.

I think it has to do with the controversy over pay that still has not been resolved. Although many argue that the girls Volunteer, you could make the same case for a many new/young musicians that often sign contracts and make their producers millions for years to come while they wind up in debt because they did not understand both what they were getting into or the value that their work would generate long after the recording. Many artists sue and get compensation years after the original recording or writing. Now with the ability to "record performance on demand" anywhere, it presents some interesting copy right and licensing scenarios that did not exist a couple decades ago and these women have rights that they should learn about and capitalize on. For example, those girls that agree to be shot/taped/replayed the most (however they do it) should get licensing rights like all other reality shows and every time the show is replayed, they should get a cut. Think of those kids from "the  hills" for example. Some of those kids made 100K an episode. I think that the Vivian/Chelsey drama was possibly testing the waters into having something scripted though it was done very badly.

Either way, I know the franchise has been trying to fight this but I think someone needs to step in on their behalf and professionalize the entertainment function and put the argument to bed. At a minimum, they should be paid minimum wage for TCC (non vet), vets should get paid a bit more and then when they make the team, there should be a tiered fee based on level of skill that could easily be established and graded. Then, they would get bonus pay for show group, all starts, any other appearance that they do. Then they would get licensing rights for life for anything that gets filmed and resold.

@ellekotonyok that is HUGE!!!  Pasadena is a big city with a lot of very strong competition (every year hundreds of beautiful and accomplished local girls compete for the title of Rose Queen and Court), so that is a very impressive achievement.  You seem so nice based on the volunteer work for Huntington Hospital you previously shared with us.   Now please go on to make Pasadena proud in the California pageant.  (If  you win you can reward yourself with the Marston's French toast you recommended.  I still have to get there one weekend.)  I'll be cheering for you!

@bigskygirl what brand CPAP do you have? It sounds like your mask might be too big for your face if it's bothering your eyes. Is it a bad seal and the air is getting out? If you can try something new, Philips Respironics Dreamwear. I don't know if the connections are universal to any machine but I can find out. Also, I can't remember if it's you - do you also have Grave's? I do and I HATE IT.

@RedDelicious I have a Res Med CPAP machine, and I wear a small woman mask. I do not think it is too big to put over my nose. Right now I am looking at a sleep appliance because I hate wearing the mask at night. The sleep specialist said some air is leaking at night. My eyes are sensitive to almost everything and anything. I also have TMJ Arthralgia so a mouth appliance could help with the TMJ at night.

I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease in 2003. Five years ago it came back, so I was told to have a Radiation Iodine Treatment. Problem was six weeks after I had the treatment I started a new medication and ended up becoming sensitive to it. The idiot doctor I was seeing told me I could not be having any side effects to the med, and he had me on too high of med dosage for the first two years. By the time I get a second opinion, the damage was done. I now deal with multiple medical issues since it took two years for any doctor to listen to me when I said something is not right after I started taking the one med. The idiot doctor told me if I had the treatment I would feel better, my quality of life would improve, and hypothyroidism is easier to treat. Wrong!!! I tried to tell him I was not sick for nine years after I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, but he would not listen. I felt better when I had a functioning thyroid. I also found out I have periodontal disease and some cavities. I saw a dentist last year, and he did not tell me I had periodontal disease and cavities. I also went a whole year with no cleanings because the one clinic did not send me a letter, postcard, or a phone call saying I needed to come in. The cleanings I did get were not much of a help because I need a certain type of cleaning for periodontal disease. It would have been nice to know since I could get a bad infection in my mouth to the point of the infection getting into my blood and causing some heart problems. My faith in the medical establishment is getting lower and lower at each passing moment because of the lack of good quality care.

You're not the only one, @bigskygirl who's having issues with the doctors listening to her.  One person I talked to who had major issues with anemia, diabetes, and other things said that that doctor(s) weren't listening to her so she wrote everything down that was going on, what she was doing and everything else (including diet and exercise, I think), took it in to the doctor she was seeing, made him read it and said that she wanted it included in her medical file.  Treatment changed nearly immediately once the doctor actually paid attention to it.  If that type of thing doesn't work, try "shopping around" for doctors to find one that will listen to you and let your current doctor know that you're looking into changing doctors because he or she isn't paying attention to what you're going through despite your trying to tell him/her.

I was able to try out many different appliances prior to getting my CPAP years ago.  I wear one of the pillows and I like because it is easy and doesn't leave marks on my face hours after I have taken it off.  Have you tried that?  My dentist says because I do frequently sleep with my mouth open despite my chin strap that I need every 3 month check up as a dry mouth invites cavities.  Just thought I would help out despite being one of those members of the health care profession

I use a pillow with my mask to help protect my face, but the main problem is the mask is causing problems with my eyes. I have eye damage, light sensitivity and chronic dry eyes due to a thyroid disorder. My eye doctor has told me I am not the first patient she has seen who has problems with their masks. She does wear a mouth appliance herself due to grinding her teeth while she sleeps. Her husband is my new dentist, and his sister is his dental hygienist. I would rather wear an appliance than face the blasted CPAP machine because it is a major pain to deal with, and it is not helping my eyes. My poor eyes have been though enough the last three years. I am sitting inside my house with the lights off due to the light sensitivity and looking at getting new glasses to help with reading and being on the computer because my eyes can only take certain amounts of indoor lighting, and I need to wear prescription sunglasses when I go outside due to the sunlight etc. etc.

Wow, I just wear the nasal pillow so will have to look into this.  I hate that as I age, the loss of subcutenous fat makes my skin look creepy and the pull of the straps on my face leaves lines that I only hope will be gone by the time I am out and about!

Forgive me if this has been asked before, or if I'm completely missing something. But, for those who live in DFW, is there a group of gals that get together to watch the show?  I'm a relatively new lurker, but a shy commenter, and would LOVE to meet some of you gals in person!  If we were to break out in our own routine (complete with newspaper pom-pons)....even better!

(If so, I can bring queso and the supplies for newspaper pom-pons)

@bigskygirl and @LadyMsJay I feel your pain! I am on my second night guard (from the dentists office) and I sleep SO much better with it. I'm a side sleeper and I think part of my clenching/grinding is trying to keep my head straight so I can breathe. Really I should just sleep on my back!

re: CPAP masks, our patients have had wonderful success with the kind of mask that is just a small shaped pad with two cannula instead of a mask that covers the entire nose. Something like that would be great with your eye sensitivity. I'm so sorry you are having troubles :(

re: Grave's, I was diagnosed a year and a half ago and I'm back on the methimazole after a brief period off when we were testing to see if I was in remission. Unfortunately I wasn't. Part of me thinks that I developed the disorder as an autoimmune response to the IUD I had. I think my body rejected it and the rejection flipped the switch for the autoimmune response. I am aware there is no scholarly research to suggest this might be the case but I've read up on autoimmune disorders and I don't think my theory is that far fetched. It is horrible. I am like a Michelin Man version of my former self. I am the small percentage that did NOT lose all kinds of weight with Graves, rather I gained it like crazy.

Best of luck to you and I hope you're feeling good!

@RedDelicious, I did lose weight when before finding out my thyroid was out of whack. I told the doctor it was one side effect I did not mind having. *lol*

I was diagnosed with endometriosis about six months before I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. I read on the internet about some women who were diagnosed with endometriosis can end up with thyroid problems, so I can see your point about your IUD rejection causing your autoimmune system to go out of whack. In my case, I think it was the stress of dealing with my husband's illness and my idiot in-laws adding more stress because they were major pains in the you know what plus the endometriosis which caused my autoimmune system to attack my thyroid.

I am seriously thinking of contacting the sleep specialist and asking for another type of machine or about a mouth appliance because the machine I have now is driving me bonkers. My eyes are not happy campers.

Personally, I could care less about the Super Bowl most years (especially the year that the Seahawks played the Steelers; those I talked to later who had watched it said that the Steelers were handed that game because of all the calls made in their favor and fans of BOTH teams said this).  Still, I wish I'd seen this year's half time show with Lady Gaga when it was shown on television because it was AWESOME.  However, I think I enjoyed watching it on youtube because I didn't have to deal with all the commercials.  What made it so much fun was not just the songs (though most of my favorites were there), but the dancing.  That HAD to be a cardio workout for the primary dancers.  I also think that Lady Gaga is the ONLY performer who had the on-field audience actually PARTICIPATE in the performance instead of just stand there screaming around the stage or something similar.  It really added to the performance and must have been an experience for everyone involved.

Ok ladies (and gentlemen if there are any here), I have a question for you!

This past weekend my friend and I were having dinner at a Russian restaurant.  I know that our server was Russian because I overheard him speaking in Russian to another server.  Now, my first language is Russian (I spent most of my time with my grandmother as a child while my mom worked and she was more comfortable speaking Russian.  I learned English as well, since my mom would only speak to me in English, but I wasn't completely comfortable with the language until kindergarten.  Ok, enough exhaustive background!

Our waiter's English was definitely a work in progress and I thought he would be more comfortable speaking to us in Russian so that is how I addressed him.  He seemed happy about that but, once we left the restaurant, my friend told me she thought what I did was condescending.  That I was basically telling him his English sucked and I didn't want to put up with it.  I swear, that never crossed my mind; I was trying to make it easy for him.  Now I feel really bad about the whole thing.

Was I out of line?  I kind of feel like a jerk.

No, absolutely not! I also know Russian, but as a second language, and I have done this with a lady who worked at the mall. She also struggled with her English and thanked me for speaking to her in a language she understood better. If your waiter seemed happy about it, I don't think you did anything wrong :)

@Pink-n-Green, I think your friend was more about feeling left out because she couldn't understand you than about insulting the waiter.  If I was fluent in a second language (which I am not by any stretch of the imagination), then I would ask if they would prefer me to speak in that language if I notice that they're struggling with English.  I remember reading something on Facebook recently about people who were fluent in another language and what they would overhear.  Some of the reactions from the people when the individual replied IN THEIR LANGUAGE must have been priceless.

Wow, I never thought of it that way.  My friend is awesome, but I can see how she would feel excluded if there were three people interacting and two of them were speaking a language she didn't know.  That makes me feel better about the waiter but now I feel guilty about my friend! LOL

Lol I was kind of exaggerating, but there's really no way to really tell that unless I put an "lol" or "</end sarcasm>" at the end. LOL but no I'm sure she's great, but I just didn't want you to feel bad about her remark. Especially since there was really nothing wrong with what you did :)

Can someone please explain how it's determined which division each football team is in? I'm dying for a matchup between Dallas and TN and it won't ever happen due to divisions.  At least Dallas used to play the Ravens (a rivalry between an online friend and me)

Team divisions are already established. Each team automatically plays their division rivals twice in a season accounting for 6 of the 16 games played in a season. Of the remaining 10 games, 3 are played against teams in the same conference (e.g., NFC East Teams will play teams within the NFC West, NFC North, or NFC South. These are rotated each season). That leaves four games to play for the rest of the season. Those games will be played against teams in each AFC division (East, West, North and South).

Teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years. In this case, the Cowboys (NFC East) and the Titans (AFC South) will play every four years. The last time the Cowboys played the Titans in the regular season was in 2014, so it's likely they will play then again next season.

I hope this makes sense.

I don't know if it would matter much against them versus those who are that the team does it. DCC has a large fan base but is still a fraction of profit for the cowboys in regards to the players themselves.

They didn't take a knee for the anthem, they took a knee before the anthem in a show of "solidarity" and stood for the anthem. I doubt they will keep doing such a "coordinated effort" every game. But, I have been wrong before.

I doubt they will. I don't even know why they did it in the first place. They (along with every other team) made it all about what its not about in the first place. And at the end of the day, DT and Jerry Jones had a convo afterwards and were all buddy buddy again. I call bullsh*t.

As a new Dallas resident and new to the agency that set it up, I'm so excited! I get to go to the stadium and get paid! I had no idea Jason Witten had FOUR kids! WOW!
