I also wouldn't be totally surprised by a Purge: Brexit or some young British filmmaker tweaking the concept just enough to make an "original" indie movie along those lines. I'm glad Central Intelligence is making a decent amount of money internationally. 1 Link to comment

Yes, Illumination does their animation in France, where they get subsidies, they will reuse backgrounds and don't spend so much time on perfecting the little details like animating the fur on animals, which cuts time/costs. The budget for Finding Dory is pretty typical for Pixar. 2 Link to comment
vibeology July 18, 2016 Share July 18, 2016 I've seen both movies and the difference in the visuals is striking. Dory is a treat for the eyes, with vibrant colours and details that are worth taking the time to look at. Secret Life of Pets doesn't look bad, but there's nothing special about it visually in most of the shots. (A few of the NYC shots are stunners, but they're the exception rather than the rule.) It's fine. When I look back at the animation of some of the movies I watched as a kid, it can be pretty rough and I never minded so it seems clear that Illumination wants to put their effort behind fun stories/jokes/voice casts and let the animation be secondary. 18 hours ago, xaxat said: Kevin Hart really knows how to pick his projects. Nah, it doesn't, although from what I understand, studios only get a percentage of worldwide gross. They get more of domestic gross. She's over 40 now, and she never really established herself as a legitimate and consistent box office and/or critical performer. So I'm guessing this really is the best she can do. I really thought after "Juno" she was going to establish herself as a critically acclaimed supporting actress in indie dramas/comedies, but man we were wrong on that count. The expected implosion of Suicide Squad really does seem to sum up this summer. Other than "Pets" or "Finding Dory", nothing really ignited the box office as a sustained hit and it's all kind of been underwhelming. At the theater I work at, it's definitely felt slower than last summer was. Link to comment

I think the reported budget may be an under-estimate, plus the studio had to have spent a crap-ton on marketing. If it doesn't drop significantly next week, it'll be a success, but if it does (and the drop from Friday to Saturday should concern the studio because that reflects less than ideal word of mouth), it'll go the way of Batman vs Superman. It feels like something that would've been a hit in the late 90s, early aughts. Obama's America made $33 million in 2012. I guess they hoped the Hillary version would do similar business.
