I just read that Steve Burton is returning.  I guess he has a fan base, well, who the hell knows with that show.  Young Jason (and Burton) were beautiful and emotional.  They should have made his brain damage last one year and then turn him back into sweet Jason Q.  He could have been a major male lead, from young college man, to medical school to head of the hospital if he was on the show long enough.  Early Jason had a lot of potential with his character being involved with so many storylines, but they kept him a meaningless thug with flat, unemotional acting and black tee shirts.  The muscles and crew cut were horrendous and now he's just old (and I'm older than him).  I never watched Jason and Sam because a nap would have kept me more awake than watching them.

I doubt the following will happen because it was Burton who wanted to stay Jason Morgan over Jason Q:   One way the story could be a bit interesting is if he somehow had regained his Quartermaine memories.

Of course, I said that when they brought Billy Miller in and they didn't listen to me then, either ;)

I didn't know Burton wanted to stay JM.  I like your idea of having him have memory flashbacks, but they don't know how to write this stuff, or anything for that matter.  I want to watch the show the way I used to but there's nothing there for me.

To be fair, though, no matter how SBu may have felt about Jason Q back then, when the late Claire Labine--who wrote the initial story--was interviewed several years back and asked about the story, she said it was all her idea, not Steve's. And she had been gone from GH for YEARS by that point. If he had been actively asking for a change like that, I have no doubt she would have said so. I can't stand him, but I can believe whatever storyline influence he had REALLY began with Guza.

Which is ironic, considering Jason Morgan became the town saint while also being a mob hitman. I think Burton's real objection is that Jason Q wasn't cool.

Ha ha. Steve Burton is the definition of square from what I've seen.  What I honestly thought was great was the two Q brothers together.  They looked alike, the ages were right and they had brotherly chemistry.  Having them both sleep with Carly was soap gold.  This is more than I've ever thought about JM in my entire GH watching history.

And again to be fair, it did start out as a compelling story. The golden child tries to save the family fuck-up from himself and gets badly hurt in the process. That's classic soap. What wrecked it is they got Sonny involved, and it went downhill from there.

If they had used the story as a way to pivot to a slightly more edgy, slightly less dorky Jason Quartermaine, that would have been fine.  But liked dubbel zout said, Sonny got involved and Sonny ruins everything.

I think Sonny has effectively ruined so many characters that I lost count.

Sonny giving Jason a safe space, so to speak, wasn't a bad thing. What really wrecked the whole story was Jason becoming Sonny's hit man and not only having absolutely no problem with it whatsoever but sneering at everyone who did.

I think it was Luke who gave Jason that "safe space," with a legal job working at his club. Plus, Sonny already had a history of taking vulnerable young people and involving them in his business. Karen and Stone, for example. I'm just not inclined to give Sonny the benefit of the doubt on this point.

I think what wrecked the show is the "bad is good and good is bad" mentality that came with Sonny being the romantic lead.

Is an early example.  Suddenly the mob were the heroes, those who would have been good guys were bad, and the gaslighting turned up to high.

You know, I don't remember either. I just recall that Jason worked at Luke's, parking cars and hauling boxes of booze around. Maybe it was Robin's idea. Or maybe it was as simple as Jason asking for a job and Luke seeing no reason not to give him one. He wasn't a complete nihilistic misanthrope in those days. But I'm pretty sure Luke's Club is where Jason first came into Sonny's orbit.

I didn't mean Luke was a nihilistic misanthrope, just that back then there was no interaction between pre-tree Jason and Luke except on the most superficial level, like being at Kelly's at the same time. But that probably made working for Luke attractive to Jason, as he knew Luke wouldn't badger him about remembering stuff. And now that I think about it, it makes sense that's where Jason first came into Sonny's orbit.

The tracheotomy set off another round of hand-wringing that post-tree Jason was wasting his life. He was, of course, but just because he could do an emergency tracheotomy doesn't mean he was fit to return to med school. It was made fairly clear that one of the reasons Jason stayed with Sonny is because the Qs wouldn't leave him alone. There were some decent discussions about that, but it soon devolved into Alan and Monica bemoaning Jason's wasted potential and Jason staring stonily into space. Tony (RIP, Dr. Jones) was one of the few people trying to get both sides to listen, but they were all too stubborn to give even an inch of understanding. It got tedious really quickly for me.

I'm not going to live in the past and start a rant in the wrong thread about Dr. Tony Jones and how he was shafted in every way.  Great doctor, great brother, great father. A character type that every soap needs, solid yet interesting.   Remember how Robin used to boss around Jason around the time Michael was an infant?  She had the cropped hair and oh she could whip.

Jason was already mobbed up at that point. I think he only started working for Sonny after Robin left the first time - for Yale? @HeatLifer would know - and the tracheotomy on Nikolas happened after she came back.

Yes, Robin went to Yale, while Kim went to NYU (unlike Robin, though, Kim eventually dropped out).

Here's some various answers to some questions:

-Sonny told Jason to see Luke. He ran into Mike, though, and told him he had a drivers license and he likes being outside, so he can park cars. Mike agreed. Jason met Luke that day, and Luke was OK with it. Both Mike and Luke just kinda felt bad for Jase because of the accident. Jase quickly quit, though, because he had a run in with Edward.

-Jason was working for Sonny when  he was with Robin. She was the one who suggested Jason talk to him. I think it started because he found a bag of money and Robin was like, "Sonny will know what to do!" LOl. He didn't start killing people, though. He was doing courier type business.

-Robin actually did drop out of Yale.

-Jason performed the tracheotomy on Nik outside of Luke's in '97. He wasn't with Robin at the time. They still loved each other and it's what prompted him to go to Paris to see if she was safe.

I've been waxing nostalgic and wondering whether to pick GH up again after about a 5 year hiatus. SB just made my decision for me. No thanks. Sorry to be out of the loop, but what happened to Monavie? It WOULD occur to me to pick up GH again right before SB decides to darken the canvas again. God dammit.

The Jason storyline could be interesting if they keep Billy Miller (that's current Jason, right) at the same time. It reminds me of what they did to Todd on OLTL. Effectively was a reset button on the storylines TSJ was a part of. Fascinating as hell. Well, actually, I never saw any of that storyline, but the idea intrigued me.

I stopped watching for about 8 years, not including Genie or Scorpio returns.  It was from end of 2002 till 2010.  I stopped when L&L were done, Genie was gone, Luke was too out of sorts and they changed Lucky's so what was I doing there?  I went back because I wondered what Luke was up to.  So it's 7 years since I went back and I can't remember one story line, other than FonDuke, the vets returning and L&L on the screen together with nothing to do.  How about they get back Brenda and try it once again.... lol

Both of these paragraphs involve a series of long stories.

I really do think RB had potential as Liz's sister ...if they'd done a completely different story that was actually about Liz and her family and if they'd actually spent time developing that relationship - instead of spending all their focus on Hayden/drug addict & Liz/murder hobo

The only interest I have in a Liz /sister relationship is if TIiC had done the smart thing and had cast RB as Sarah. Liz's golden child sister. A Nik original crush. Have Audrey get sick. Necessitating Sarah to visit. Have her family move back with her. Either with a husband or single. Via death or divorce. They want Dr. ClayMcBainFinn to be her love interest, fine. Just let it involve them bickering over patients and work. Hell, let Dr. O see herself and her sister in some terse sister bickering between the Webber girls.

I just hate the character of Hayden Rachel Berlin Barnes. And the stupidity of making her a Webber and not following it up. Fuck, at least they could've done was to make Liz and Hayden cousins via their mothers.

Once I saw the actress they cast for Hayden's mother I wanted Liz to be the Jeff Webber lovechild. Because that's a story about Liz with Hayden as a supporting character. , And Liz needs a talk-to; Emily is dead, Nik is dead and Lucky is gone.  Plus, I loved the Kendall/Greenlee sister dynamic (when Ryan wasn't involved) and I thought I saw some of the same spark with Liz/Hayden.

I won't miss RB because they didn't do anything worthwhile with the actress or the character but I'm still irritated by the waste of potential story

Carly Schroeder will return to Port Charles this week as Serena, Scott and Lucy’s daughter, who she played on the GH spin-off PORT CHARLES from 1997-2003, in conjunction with the show’s tribute to Scott’s father, Lee. (Lee’s portrayer, Peter Hansen, passed away earlier this year.) “I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful return,” Schroeder tells Digest. “Kin [Shriner, Scott] and I still have the same mannerisms! He is like my second father.” Lynn Herring (Lucy) says, “It was just amazing to have Carly back with us. It’s something Kin and I had wanted for a long time and I know the fans did, too. I’m excited for them to see it!”

UYI, he made his first appearance in this past Wednesday's episode.

If they brought Serena back again I wouldn't want CS.

Why?

Not gonna lie, that picture of CS with all of her on-screen parents hit me right in the feels.

ETA...and the folks on Twitter whose reactions to Serena's return is, "OMG, I can't wait until/I wish she would meet Franco!" are missing the fuckin' point.
