"You take a whiskey drink. You take a vodka drink. He's a hero."

So yeah, Tandy's still an ass and you could tell he's happy he's gone, but his brother issues made him feel so very terrible when he tried taking over Phil's life. I do hope we see Mike reunite with him eventually. Currently, I think Todd's in a lot more trouble than Tandy these days, caught in a love triangle he doesn't want to be in. He's gonna break, and it won't be pretty.

We return...in three weeks.

Todd made a mess for himself. Not the first time either. He has a better sense of right and wrong than Tandy does, yet Todd does the wrong thing anyway. I'm thinking of the previous bacon incident too. He knows he shouldn't try to string along Gail and Melissa, but he's letting that happen.

Too bad for these women their choices for men at the moment are Todd and Tandy. Hopefully for them Mike will show up.

Killing Phil is dark, even for a show about the last people on Earth. Yeah they killed Will Ferrell, but this is a character that we knew and he has a baby on the way with a woman who is terrified about being the first mother in the new world. The show largely try to play it lightheartedly. Maybe that's why they didn't pick up at the flat-lining.

Oh and Carol is still my favorite. She's the best part of every episode.

I just don't find Tandy entertaining. His antics and his whole way of being are just incredibly annoying to me, and I don't understand why the show insists on focusing on him so much if they're going to make him so unpleasant.

Really ? Todd is reciting Chumbawumba lyrics at new Phil's funeral.  And new Phil gets a Viking funeral -- why exactly ?

That boat was 25-30 feet from the ocean -- how in the hell did Tandy manage to push it into the water ?  Aside from the pickup with the winch off camera that was assisting.  All while reciting Pat Benatar lyrics to "We Belong".

And Phil trying to fire those flaming arrows was just so stupid.  Even for this show.  I know this is a comedy, but that was just sad and stupid.

And then Phil continues bow and arrow practice incredibly lamely, like he's going to master it for the next Viking funeral -- may be he should have tried that before burying new Phil.

The Mike episode was such a breath of fresh air. To me, the entire show can be called "Tandy, You Dumb."

Mike Miller is so likable compared to his dumbass brother Phil -- probably because astronauts have to pass numerous bouts of psychological testing.  Phil cannot get to Malibu soon enough, but then again Tandy will try and kill him because Mike is just so awesome by comparison.

What is preventing Tandy from shaving ?  Because the beard just isn't funny.  And wearing new Phil's clothes and cologne was just creepy.

Melissa is just plain unhinged.

Tandy's attempted character assassination of new Phil in front of Erica with the porn, drugs and slam poetry was just pathetic -- and the furthest from anything funny possible.  Isn't this supposed to be a comedy ?

The biggest question of the episode -- what happened to new Phil's hair ? His driver's license showed he had plenty of hair.

How did Tandy and Erica haul new Phil's coffin all the way from the waterside up to the top of that cliff ?  Let alone dig a hole to bury him in that was so neat and tidy.

Looked like he had a major receding hairline, so shaving is a way around that. Besides, he looked a lot cooler bald.

I don't hate Tandy like so many of you, and I don't think he's still an asshole. He felt like he truly bonded with Phil, and like Phil did want to be friends. To learn that Phil didn't like him made Tandy act like his old self, but the difference is that he didn't stay that way and didn't really feel that way, like quietly calling Phil "Brother" as he and Erica walked away.

I got sad seeing Melissa biting off the bedazzling from her gorgeous boots. So funny that she was singing 'Closure' as she sat there. BTW, I saw a bit of glitter on Todd's face as he and Melissa were kissing.

Carol was hilarious trying to avoid Melissa. The faces she was making when Melissa told her that she thought she was getting back together with Todd were amazing.

Tandy: This has nothing to do with MY brother, ok? Except for the fact that Phil was like my brother and I never got a chance to say goodbye to him.

Tandy: There's something I have to tell you. This is going to be hard to hear.

Carol: Then I'll move in closer. [and tucks her hair behind her ear]

Carol: Melissa is my best friend, and she is getting boned against.

So now that the other Phil is gone can they start calling Tandy Phil? I wouldn't want to be called Tandy either and it never sat right with me that they basically bullied him into being called Tandy. That was before he started doing a lot of stupid things to earn their wrath too, it was just because they were so smitten with the other Phil.

I'd love to see The Adventures of Astronaut Mike, Sailor Pat and Phil The Worm.  Seriously, I'm totally over watching the Malibu crowd bicker.

Erica, honey, you're going to need all the help you can get with the baby, so don't be so quick to turn down help.

I liked Phil when he was alone.  Watching him talk to the balls, float in a pool of tequila, all that crazy stuff he did at first was somewhat understandable and fun to watch.  He's not funny anymore -- he's just annoying and clueless.

Todd is pissing me off too.  When your world is confined to five people, you take more care in how you treat them.

On the other hand, maybe it's the basic concept of the show -- making humor from the end of the world.  You, Me, and the Apocalypse has done it successfully, maybe because their characters are somewhat realistic.

Well there are 8 people, yeah only 6 in a group, 4 women and 2 men, so yeah the choices of father figures are low right now, I'll also bet Mike will find them soon

talking about monogamy here is ridiculous, Earth needs repopulation he he

I agree. If "hell is other people" maybe they should have just let him be the last person.

I also don't understand why the rest of the group let him take over the funeral. If they wanted to do something else, they could have. He's not only outnumbered, but he's a goof who wants social approval more than anything else. If they had firmly said they wanted to do things differently, he would have been easy to back down.

It seems like they're all weak and unmotivated and generally crazy and lazy. I would say Carol is the only one who makes an effort and still has some ambition, but even she is fairly nuts. Her total lack of perspective on Original Phil's behavior is certainly not a sign of lucidity or social awareness. And yes, it's plausible that watching the die out of all human and animal life would unhinge most people, but it doesn't make the show interesting the way they're playing it. It's not funny or dramatic, it's just repetitive, irritating, and sad. I get the feeling that if they were not in an empty world they'd be in a basement with Eric Forman, hooking up and backstabbing and lying and being slackers and dropping out or being expelled in a similar fashion. They're wasting the premise.

I've loved this Show's concept and possibilities from the get go, but Phil/Tandy is making it more and more difficult for me to continue. He takes me out of every scene that he's in, and I find myself grinding my teeth and counting the seconds till it's over. I fear that this season will end with Mike's arrival at Malibu, and that next season will feature a rinse and repeat of  old Phil v. new Phil (in the person of his Brother).   What do you all think?

fauxphysician, I'm with you.  Phil's character is probably considered to be brilliantly funny by people who appreciate this kind of comedy.  I'm out of the loop, I just don't get it, never have.  It's the same with Chip from Baskets.  I have no patience with self-centered, unaware, clueless characters who shamble through life, hurting others.  It's just not funny to me.

I think it is entirely feasible that Tandy would take over the funeral, the others are quite lazy and probably worn down by his manic behaviour. As for calling him Tandy even after the new Phil`s demise, that is quite likely what people in that situation would do. Highlights include Tandy discovering Phil Two`s middle name and Todd referring to Gail as `Bub` and shouting out his appreciation for her supposedly telling him he should wear hats. Melissa is starting to unravel, maybe another male character (Mike?) could shake her up and maybe cause Todd to get jealous again? I note the show is not on next week, bummer.

Yes, I am one of those people. I thought this was a great episode: I agreed with the AV Club, which gave it an A- and talked about continually laughing throughout the episode. (And they do not give every episode high grades by any stretch of the imagination.). The Viking funeral, the Chumbawamba lyrics, the wine poured into a Double Gulp cup, the chewing on the boots, the revelation that New Phil did have a middle name after all and it was Stacy, and on and on...there were so many great gags in this episode, I thought.

Will Forte created this show. He is the co-showrunner, head writer, and central character. I would suggest that if you don't find him funny, this is probably never going to be the show for you.

This has started to bug me about the show as well.

I know Phil is annoying, I would be annoyed by him as well, but the other characters aren't exactly the cream of the crop to start a new world.

Why aren't they gardening, or learning some things about how to take care of themselves?

While I disliked Phil a lot, it's a loss for the group. He was at least a level headed man and the only person trying to rebuild their lives. There isnt an anchor in the group now. Lookingn forward to Level-headed Mike finding them somehow.

I know it's supposed to be a comedy but it's relaly depressing that the only people to survive the worldwide virus  are this bunch of horrible, horrible people. there isn't one redeeming quality in a single one of these people. and I still am baffled how after all these months, NONE of them are even trying to rebuild the world. They just sit around all day drinking, fighting, and being idiotic.

Incidentally, how are they watching TV? There is no TV to watch. If there is TV to watch, why haven't they watched TV all these months?

I dunno, the show makes my head hurt.

I wouldn't be surprised if the original pitch for the show was "What if the world was decimated, and the only people left alive were the cast of Seinfeld?  Well, not exactly the cast of Seinfeld, but kind of like them.  You get the idea!"

They're not watching tv. I think they have generators they use to run the equipment to watch previously recorded movies.

The fact that they haven't plugged into a solar system by now is ridiculous, especially since they actually have access to a nearby solar house that had a running refrigerator that kept bacon safe to eat all this time, but I think they are still using generators because they're too lazy to install the solar stuff at the house they chose to live in.

But even with solar power, they wouldn't have tv to watch because there's nothing being broadcast.
