I like the more relaxed version of Kasie. I think she manages the transitions between humor and seriousness quite well. And she still has her badass reporter chops

Am grateful to Dave Aronberg for lowering my bloodpressure, that was actually really pretty useful information

Joe's anecdote about Lindsey Graham cracked me up, lmao. Finally a story from the Scarborough-Controlled Congress that *wasn't* boring, heh.

ETA: Though I'm surprised it didn't end with Joe bursting through the door, performing CPR, and heroically bringing Lindsey back from the brink of death. Before being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

I did not see the show today.  Apparently Joe interviewed actor Jeff Daniels about the presidential election.  I am at a loss as to why Jeff Daniels, or any other entertainer, is considered an authority on politics.  Not sure what Joe hopes to accomplish.  He's probably hoping to get invited to Hollywood premieres or something. Daniels probably has a movie to promote? Whatever.

Jeff plays James Comey in the Showtime mini series "The Comey Rule".   He has been very vocal about politics recently.  They talked about how media can't play by the same rules as they have in the past, as there is no regard for our institutions, tradition, etc.

I don't think it was "Tell us what to do, Jeff", but he did have to study what happened with Comey, and how he interacted with Trump, etc.

But by the time they get around to talking about it, everyone is worn out. And they don't really get into a discussion of what the legal ramifications are, it's just Joe's blathering and opinions. He was basically repeating what the hosts of every show from 5 pm on said last night.

And he can't even get the facts straight. Trump paid $750 the year he became President, not last year.

There was something really freakish about those clips they showed! It's always so bizarre when they do "historical" movies about something that is still sorta ongoing, about people who are very much alive. How could they possibly know the full story, now? Eg there were only recently new revelations from the guy who worked on the Mueller probe. Comey's circumstances and motivations may be equally complex, who even knows at this stage. Plus the bizarro actor DJT freaked me out LOL

I really really like Jeff Daniels though. His comments were interesting. He seems to take his work seriously and with empathy, I respect that

I enjoyed the segment with Keir Simmonds. So many international crises are being ignored by the media right now.

Teddysmom, thanks for the explanation about the movie. I do not have Showtime or HBO, so I am not up to date on some of the current movies.  I spend most of my TV time watching news and sports.  Jeff Daniels will always be the cute husband in "Terms of Endearment" and that's that.

Happy to help! I saw Jeff on the tv as I was leaving.  He looked half awake.

I just read a review in WaPo and I think I'm glad I got rid of Showtime and Starz. It doesn't sound very good, and probably just makes people angry.

Do you have Netflix? If so, and like westerns, check out Godless. It has Michelle Dockery and Merritt Weaver, as well as Jeff Daniels. He plays a bad guy, like just a terrible person, but he's really good in it. My sister's friend who trains her horse taught Jeff to ride for the role. Jeff lives in Chelsea MI, which is near Ann Arbor.  Jeff & Merritt got Emmys for their portrayals.

I believe that Mika & Joe used to attend the WHCD until one of the comedians, Sarah Wolfe made fun of Mika & Joe as a #Metoo couple that worked out.

Morning Joe used to have celebrities like Rob Reiner on a regular basis, but he criticized Joe for not calling candidate Trump a racist.

The show was better when it spent a bit of time covering non political topics.

I didn't see Jeff Daniels on Show this morning; I turned it off after the first 45 minutes or so.  I, too, thought they would go into a legal discussion on the tax returns.  But no, Joe bloviated forever; the usual guests wrung their hands and parroted what Joe said.  Then they went directly to The Polls.  Meeka was trying to get some mileage from her "Biggest Loser" comment or some such.   Let me tell you....from the little I have observed lately, the thrill seems to be gone between The Twins.  Not that they are on the rocks, but there is no longer the casual banter and laughing between the two.  Tsk.

Getting back to Jeff Daniels.  He was on with Nicole Wallace today and it was a fantastic interview; she even asked him to stay for another segment.  Maybe this morning's interview was Way Too Early for him.  Snerk.

I saw the clip of Joe interviewing Mike Schmidt about Trump's taxes. The show should have brought on a tax specialist to discuss how the tax laws allowed Trump to avoid paying income taxes.

I am sure Joe is aware that he could write off part of the cost of operating his home as a business expense since it is used to broadcast Morning Joe.

Mika & Joe can claim hair care expenses since they are "on air " personalities.

And wasn't it written up somewhere that the move to FL was to avoid NY taxes? And that's why they have to dole out their "away" days carefully to adhere to permanent resident rules? I think he knows how to play the tax avoidance rules, but, you know, he's just a simple country lawyer...afraid to look in the mirror.

Joe and Mika are excited about the presidential debate in Cleveland tonight.  There will be a limited audience at the venue. Mika did verbal vomit.  She told us that "so much" is going on, including bank records, tax returns, and a SCOTUS nominee.

Willie expressed an eagerness to see if moderator Chris Wallace can "get to" Trump.

Joe said we are at an inflection point.  The polls are dropping precipitously, according to Joe.  Joe has started speaking in headlines from the NY Times.

Joe said Biden is leading in many polls.  Joe  said that "it" is "breaking bad" for Trump.  Is Aaron Sorkin writing copy for Joe?

Claire McCaskill is on the show from her kitchen.  Claire said the Trump campaign is panicked.  Claire says that women are exhausted by Trump and his abuse of norms.

Joe agreed with Claire. He thinks that women are very excited about Joe Biden.

Yes, Joe saves over $500K per year by living in Florida.

I am excited that Joe bought a new grey sweater with white sparkles. This is a brilliant choice because it will allow Joe to eat white doughnuts without it appearing bad on screen.

Joe was excited that Trump was trailing in the polls in Michigan & Pennsylvania.

Joe is happy that the media isn't focused on the Supreme Court pick but on Trump's tax returns. I think Joe likes Amy Coney Barrett.

Joe said that all election campaigns have a reset & proceded to list all the resets since 2000. Joe must have practiced those lines.

Joe said George W Bush lost evangelical voters when he revelead his drunk driving arrest.

Donny disagreed with Joe & said Trump's handling of the Coronavirus is the top issue. There will be no October surprise.

Joe said Donnie should stop filming from his dentists office.

Exactly. I can't believe that they use a friend of theirs as their Medical Expert when the whole of NBC has various true experts in the medical subject of the day. There must be some kind of perk for the twins...does he use his laser for Mika's facial tweaking or does Joe or Bomba need their spines lasered? To dumb it down to Dr. First Name is so unprofessional.

Joe told Claire that Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death was a turning point for Democrats. Voters were worried about Trump nominating a new Supreme Court justice.

I wish my kitchen was as clean as Senator Macaskill.

Oh my!😮Some days I regret my decision of boycotting this foolish show! That moment must have been golden!!

She doesn't know how to impersonate a Southern accent. She repeated Lindsay saying "Help me! Help me!" in her cry voice.

Mika's cry voice doesn't have a Southern accent.

That would be Vince Gilligan, if we're talking about "breaking bad". 🙂

I thought I heard Joe say Reagan did well in the 1988 debate. Interesting, as it was Bush & Dukakis I believe who were in that debate.

Where did Joe disappear to?  Leaving Mika to interview Andrew Weissman is like asking my dog to fix the dishwasher.  Funny how Rachel was able to ask Andrew all the pertinent questions last night, but Mika has to bring Ratner & Lemire in.

Is this show called "Morning Joe", or "Morning Whoever Shows Up and Will Do Our Job For Us".

I tweeted at Kasie this morning at 5:05 am "Please stop yelling. We can hear you. Your audience just woke up".  Shockingly, the next segment she was speaking at a normal tone.  I don't know who told her she has to start the show like she's yelling at members of Congress as they hurry past, but, Jesus Mary & Joseph, the name of your show is WAY TOO EARLY, and 5 am is way too early for that. Let Joe be the obnoxious loudmouth.

And she is taking wardrobe tips from Mika, as it looked like she threw a bathrobe on over her black tee shirt.

Mika is a Debbie Downer. Joe should let her have a KYV segment from 8:30 am-9:00 am to cheer her up.

Actually, he should just let her quit the show altogether. As we discuss on the hosts forum, she is stressed and unhappy (as anyone would be when working outside their skill and comfort levels) and I'm surprised, as her husband, he doesn't see what the rest of us see and what she is constantly blogging about. Hosting a gig like this, especially in her limited role, should be easy-peasy. Not roll around the floor, stress-eating crazy.

I've been wondering same thing! Why not just say she's taking off to care for her mother?  I really don't get what she's so stressed out about. She barely works, she has a huge home in a nice climate, more money than she needs.  FFS try be a single mom and dealing with your kids being home, and worrying you might be laid off.

And all those KYV posts. Go out and talk to people who are actually struggling. Instead of your half baked experts from RichPeopleIKnow.com

I remember when Mika & Joe used NBC's medical expert , Dr. Nancy Sniderman during the Ebola crisis, but she had to resign for breaking quarantine restrictions.

I am surprised that Joe didn't invite Dr. Zeke Emmanuel to be their guest for infectious diseases.

Morning Joe used to CNBC commentators to analyze economic issues, but they now use Stephen Ratner. I like Ratner's use of charts but Joe didn't always disclose that he was Michael Bloomberg's financial advisor when he was running for President.

Would the network still pay her, if she was on medical leave ?

I think she is stressed because Joe is no longer enthralled by her. She is probably aware that when a mistress becomes a wife, she creates a vacancy for the job.

I don't think either one is enthralled with the other any more.  The thrill is gone. It was fun and exciting to be sneaking around, but now the drudgery of day to day life, and being home all day with each other, instead of stealing moments, and they see each other for what they really are.

Be careful what you wish for.

Everyone...today's posts have been brilliant, all of them.  And a few of you have posted just what I have been thinking about the dynamic between The Twins.  Yes, they save the money in taxes; but I am not sure living in Florida, especially in these times, is healthy for them. Not much is happening in their day-to-day world but upticks in Covid cases.  But God knows, it has given us lots of behaviors to post about.

I remember Mika yelling at Nicole. I believe that was the end of that friendship.   Mika has moved on to Katy and Kasie. I posted her new PDB (Psychotic Daily Briefing) on the hosts forum.  Things aren't getting better.   If Ladies Home Journal was still being published she & Joe would be featured in the monthly column "Can This Marriage Be Saved?"

I wonder if Nicole has thought about what transpired while she was in the Bush Admin and is trying to make amends maybe?  She does go out of her way now to be as gracious as a person can be.

I like Nicole, but she talks too much.  Also, she seems to flirt with Brian Williams when they end up covering election events together.

IMO I feel like if they're getting divorced or whatever that's their business, like if they no longer like each other that's OK (might explain the separate squares thing!), as long as they still like their jobs...buuuut it often seems they don't even love the work anymore, and that's what makes it sorta depressing?... they used to seem like they truly loved being there, loved their regulars, made guests feel welcome, were engaged by the discussions, could laugh at themselves...like there was this energy of people who thrived in their jobs, that's so important

Tired of listening to Nicolle repeat 'I was part of 3 presidential campaigns' suggesting this experience grants her more insight than others.  If she was so omniscient Sarah Palin would not have been on the ticket.

Love her Deadline guests, but 2 hours is too much for her to prepare for.

Joe is upset about the debate.  He said America is supposed to be a shining city on a hill.  He thinks it was a mockery of American democracy and the president brought shame.

Willie called the debate pathetic and embarrassing.  He wants to know how anyone could want more of that.

Mika looks horrible.  She's really washed out, and she's wearing an American flag around her neck. Joe probably kept her up all night bitching.

Brian Williams is kinda awkward and wooden, I'm guessing she's just trying to put him at ease. To her credit, she does this with all her guests, she's really great at creating a welcoming environment. Loved her pre-debate discussion with Rachel and Joy last night.

  • Love 2

oh man this is exhausting... like I agree with everything they're saying but dude. Jason Johnson was saying something about the aim being apathy, but isn't the show contributing to it with all this depression and despair? is the whole month going to be like this, zero optimism or energy? Doesn't make people wanna go out and vote, makes them wanna crawl back into bed. I mean YMMV but, sigh.

  • Love 1

Morning Joe starts with their clip from December 2015 when Joe shut down candidate Trump who was on the phone. Joe was wearing a navy blue sweater.

Today, Joe is still wearing a navy blue sweater. Mika is wearing a new American flag scarf but looks very pale.

Joe is mad at Trump for screaming & yelling throughout the debate. It seems like a normal episode of Morning Joe.

TBF Nicolle had nothing to do with the Palin decision, and she admitted she didn't vote for McCain because the thought of Palin taking over if something happened to him terrified her.

She & Brian are very close friends, I don't think it's anything more than enjoying working together.  He's about 20+ years older than she is, and she's dating Michael Schmidt.  But I understand how she isn't everyone's favorite.
