I cannot imagine the remarks from friends and acquaintances at school that the Conway children must have endured.  I guess the daughter wanting to emancipate herself from her parents was hopefully the last straw that pushed the parents to remove themselves from the limelight.  But the bitchy part of me wonders about Kelly Anne; life at home must have been miserable for everyone; but I wouldn't trust her for a minute.  That said, I hope those kids can get some healing and the parents both start putting their children first.

This is very true. I hope Mika & Joe's kids haven't had to endure too much angst as KAC's kids.

I do recall one how where Mika & Joe had a guest on the show to discuss parenting teenagers. Mika told the guest at how upset she was that one  of her daughter's ordered Domino's Pizza with extra toppings without her permission. The guest told Mika to calm down.

Her daughter must have been mortified.

I didn't realize there were so many creatively boring ways to say "the Republican platform is no longer conservative." No shit, Sherlock. I feel like I'm at the funeral of a person who's been very dead for very long. Come on guys, enough of the eulogizing, give us a fresh take.

Joy, Nicolle and Rachel's convo last night at the beginning of Brian Williams' show was some of the best television I've seen in years. Spontaneous, smart, funny, it should be compulsory viewing for everyone at MSNBC

I'm glad they covered that horrid de Joy hearing though. And Willie's back! I wonder where Mika is

Tuned in for the 6:00 hour..or as much as I could listen to.  At one point I started to wonder if Joe would ever stop talking; he hit all of his high points.  There was so much to intelligently discuss; but "Conservative" in the hushed whisper came up often; as well as what we hear from Joe every single day.  Nicole, Rachel and Joy Reid last night could be a lesson in wit, ability to think on their feet and to discuss their subject intelligently and without hysteria.

And because I am especially crabby this morning, I am beyond tired of the same guests coming on often to discuss their books.  I love John Meecham but cannot listen to him talking about his latest book for another minute.  I single him out because he was on this morning (and has been on several times lately, I think); but the same goes for every Friend of Show who has a book to push.  I don't mind once or twice but it seems they come on quite a bit in the guise of giving their take on current events.

Interesting that Joe was off on the last day of the Democratic Convention...wasn't he?  And now Meeka this week.  Even more amazing is that I wonder and think about this more than I do the actual show.

Is everyone else as exhausted by current events and "home staying safe" according to the Joe Namath commercial; which seems to be on constantly.  I actually enjoy Joe (Scarborough!) when he isn't pontificating for an entire hour...and think he looked pretty good this morning - tanned, hair not as high.

I missed Mika. She makes Joe less dull. It was kind of a sausage fest this morning - Katty Kay was there but she only got to speak for like 30 seconds, would have liked to have heard more from her.

Happy to see Elise Jordan though. She's been broadcasting from sort of dark but beautifully decorated bunker. It's kinda glamorous.

I had to adjust the volume on my TV when they started the show with Kimberley Guilfoyle yelling at the top of her lungs.

Joe compared her speech to Pat Buchanan's 1992 speech at the RNC.

The fabulous Rick Tyler compared it to some sort of exorcism. His twitter feed from last night is pretty hilarious

  • Love 3

I turned it off when I saw Rick Tyler,  I cannot stand him.

I don't miss Mika at all.  And Joe counting the ways Trump isn't a real conservative, barf.  I am not in the mood.

The best part of the show was comparing Kimberly Guilfoyle's speech to an actual Mussolini speech Dwight gave on The Office.   I'm sure that was one of the producer's ideas. It was hilarious.

I'm having an affair with my boss and running around the country with him but if you order extra mushrooms one more time, you are grounded til you're 21!!!!!

The only good thing about Mika's daughters dealing with the turmoil that is the JoMika relationship is they're both over 21 now and don't have to be emancipated legally.

Does he have Bots writing his books--how can he publish so many each year??

Yeah, you mean like my boyfriend of 10 years????

Her speech is one of those things that makes the slog through the mess politics have become worth it for a few minutes.  First I thought Josef Stalin, followed quickly by the balcony scene on Evita, and on the heels of that I thought "Somebody Photoshop a Revival Tent behind this shrew!!!"

This made me laugh; and since the exterminator was just here...that is quite a feat.  Best post of the week!

I just watched the Kimberly Guilfoyle/Dwight Shrute mashup speech, which was great.  What was, however, even greater was the stunned, shocked and squirming silence of the MJ panel after it! It was a marvel to see.  I thought it was a joke the way the camera panned out to show her all alone at the end.  To have had a guy in the front seat jacking off-would've been a nice addition.  THIS SHIT BE KRAZEE!!

Mika is at home asleep.  Are they switching off days hosting the show.

Joe says last night was an alternate reality.

Joe noted that Larry Kudlow referred to the Covid pandemic in the past tense.

Joe is upset that Melania Trump lectured people about mean people on social media.

Joe repeated the remark that Trump said Mika was bleeding from her face.  He said it twice.  I am sure Mika appreciates Joe bringing up her surgery.

As a woman, I would be horrified if my husband repeated someone else's criticism of my physical appearance.  Joe, get a sensitivity chip.

Joe criticized forner Florida AG Pam Bondi for her speech.  Joe said he knows her from Florida.

I was shocked he brought up Trump's horrible facelift comments about Meeka; my hard heart felt badly for her.  This may be why Joe is on his third marriage.

I wouldn't worry too much.  It's attention for poor little Mika. She bragged about getting her neck done when all that happened.  She even said on air I believe to Nicolle Wallace that she'd tell her who did it when they were off camera.  In fact she even said her mother had told her to get the work done.

Mika has told stories about how terribly she has been treated by her mother, I'm sure Joe's off hand comment about her neck lift was nothing.  She's probably not even awake.

  • Love 3

I think he was just making a point about the surreal nature of Melania's speech on the evils of social media, when she's married to a guy who makes crude comments on social media all the time, including about Mika. I guess it was a relevant point but I agree it was clumsily phrased, it might have been better to say "he made cruel comments about my wife", rather than repeating the actual comments.

While we're on the topic of chivalry, when the female host is off and the opening panel is literally 5 men and 1 woman, whyyyy does it take 25 minutes before the 1 woman is allowed to speak? It happened yesterday with Katty Kay and today with Shawna Thomas.

  • Love 4

Joe brought up the issue of white protesters who claim to be part of the BLM movement that accosted restaurant patrons in Washington DC.

They demanded that the patrons raise their arms in support of BLM.

Joe & Reverend Al are opposed to these tactics & said it helps President Trump who will use it in his ads.

Shawna Thomas said that it was a bad idea to have BLM supporters yelling at restaurant patrons. Shawna said that the media should be careful of using these explosive images. It isn't happening throughout the USA.

Joe is opposed to violent looting in Kenosha Wisconsin.

I am annoyed with Joe & Lemire talking about the Red Sox beating the Blue Jays last night. I am a Blue Jays fan & don't like the Red Sox.

  • Love 4

Rothman said Conservative voters will feel better about voting for Trump after watching the convention. Rothman said that the convention will try to soften Trump's image.

Joe is opposed to putting illegal immigrants in cages.

Claire is very mad at Trump & is upset at Trump using government buildings for political purposes.

Claire can't believe that she lost her Senate seat to a Trump supporter.

Capeheart told Claire to bottle her rage.

Did anyone else get the impression from Joe today that they're rooting for Jonathan Capeheart to take over Joy's weekend show?

I think Tiffany Cross has been my favorite AM Joy guest host so far but Jonathan has also been really good

ETA: Or Yasmin. Is she in the running for that, she should be

Joe considers himself to be very influential when it comes to promoting candidates for shows on MSNBC.

He used to get into fights with Capeheart a few years ago on air, but they seem to have made up now.

Joe's endorsement of Capeheart would be critical. The network would be wary of Joe's wrath!

Oakville...thinking about Joe's wrath.  I'll bet it could be a horrible sight to see - he is a bully enough on the teevee; cannot imagine all that hysteria bottled up in private.  When it comes out in private I'll bet he takes no prisoners.  Another possible reason (other than infidelity) for three marriages.  In some respects he and Meeka are a perfect fit.  And I still think she is the "boss" in private.

I really don't think so. He strikes me as the sort of guy who's sort of openly impatient and short-tempered but gets over it quickly and has enough self-awareness to quickly apologize for it afterwards. As opposed to those guys who are all sweet and patient in public but secretly aggressive in private, ugh. Speaking from personal experience, that shit is scary as hell, and I'd rather have the first option. But YMMV.

Noah Rothman looks very weird with his beard.

Yeah. Noah Rothman sold out. It pains me to say it. I have to say, I've gradually and grudgingly come to respect every single republican who was on this show for the past 10 years (and who I previously disliked!), including Douche-borough himself, because they've all somehow stepped up and stuck to their core principles throughout this strange era. But Rothman... hasn't. Not quite. He's been saying these halfway, 50-50, morally ambiguous things where you can tell from his face he doesn't quite believe what he's saying. He hasn't quite found his sense of self or his moral core. I'm pretty sure he has one, so it's disappointing.

It's this strange nostalgia. But I can't bring myself to judge them for it - it's like these RL Stine young adult thrillers I used to read as a kid where suddenly the main characters realize that everyone in the town they live in ARE ACTUALLY ZOMBIES.

From the characters' perspectives it is terrifying, from the readers' perspective it was OBVIOUS all along. So Joe et al are like...there are RACISTS in my party??? The one that was founded on SOLELY ON ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES??

Yeah. You were the only non-zombie in that goddamn zombie town, kid. You shoulda looked around properly.

Get outta here!  Remember his very public affair, the Walking The Trail - and then his wife trashing him all over the press and tv?  And a ...hush...Conservative!  What is there not for Joe to like?  Seriously...did he really say he thought Sanford would be a credible candidate?  Actually, this sounds just like something Joe would spout off about.  Birds of a feather.

Yes. I recapped his appearance on Morning Joe when  Joe called him a true conservative & a deficit hawk. Joe did not discuss Sanford's ethical challenges.

Joe is so full of shit. He wasn't a deficit hawk. He believed that certain institutions of the federal government should be eliminated and federal power as a whole should be reduced. He didn't want a leaner budget for the Commerce, Education and HUD Department. He wanted to eliminate them entirely.

His actions, with Gingrich, directly led the Tea Party Movement, which in turn gave us Trump. He'll never own up to  it, just like a lot of Never Trumpers, but he bears a responsibility.

Edited because I was really angry last night. Not all Never Trumpers are the same.

Where is Joe today?  Is taking every other day off a thing now?

Willie and Lemire are really into the Hatch Act this morning.  I am a federal employee in a cabinet level agency, of almost 20 years, and I've never actually seen anyone get disciplined for violating the Hatch Act.  We have a mandatory training every year and that's it.

Also, violation of the Hatch Act may be disciplined by your agency to include removal from your job, but it is not a criminal offense.

Edited by nittanycougar

Mika & Willie showed up for work. Joe took the day off. Mika is worried about hurricane Laura.

Mika is mad at Trump for trying to promote therapeutics & a potential vaccine for the virus.

Mika is mad at Trump for violating the Hatch act. There shouldn't be political activity at the White House.

Mika is furious at the 17 year old in Kenosha for shooting people at the protest.

Willie is worried about people getting upset at the looting & protests. They may not want that in their towns & end up voting for Trump.

I find it hilarious that Morning Joe's specialty is "inside the beltway" political discussions yet Mika & Joe take time off during the RNC & DNC conventions.

Joe will probably take time off during the debates to promote his book about President Truman.

  • Love 3

I just watched the Willie/Jason Johnson interview.  I should not say "interview" ... it was a conversation on a news show where the interviewer let the interviewee talk from the heart.  Jason Johnson was speaking from the heart and Willie just let him go for it without interrupting or turning the conversation back onto himself.  I am glad that Joe was not there because I don't think he would have been able to keep quiet.  Right after, Meeka put in her brief two-cents and then went to Stephanie Ruhle for a short conversation about sports.  Yes, I know...Meeka.  But at least she didn't try to insert herself or add anything; nothing needed to be added.  Jason Johnson is talking again...his passion is showing and it is not about himself. So different from what we get when Joe is on.

What is with this show (and the networking permitting it) where it's hosts take turns being present during a national political convention?  Absences from either one are the norm.  Willie may be a bit bland but he does a lot of the heavy lifting; Meeka is window dressing and Joe is not happy unless he is bloviating for 98% of the airtime.

This. Eddie Glaude's remarks were also incredibly moving. I'm glad they gave both Jason and Eddie breathing space to speak. I'm also glad they kept it simple today as there is so much breaking news happening at once.

I thought Mika did a fairly decent job. I still kinda cringe though when she doesn't acknowledge or welcome the guests, like she'll launch straight into a lengthy question and then the first thing the guest says is "....good morning, Mika", it's so embarrassing. They got up at 6am for you! Joe is so friendly so effortlessly

Why do they make those poor hurricane reporters stand outside in the wind and rain?? I feel so bad for them

  • Love 4

Mika didn't even announce that Joe was off today (unless I missed it), but then, Joe also didn't say Mika was off except for yesterday when he said she would be back today.  Is it too much to ask that both of these people actually show up for work especially during the DNC/RNC conventions?  This is their job!  I also have noticed that many times Joe will start at 6:00am and launch into a rant or whatever for a good 15 minutes or more and only afterwards announce who's on the show that morning.  I'm sure the guests are thrilled having to sit there waiting for him to end his speech.  Most of the time I find myself wondering, "Did he say who was going to be on this morning because I don't seem to recall."  It turns out he didn't.

Joe is wearing a long sleeve black sweater and white shirt.  Kind of a bizarre choice in August.  Isn't it still hot as hell in Florida?

Al Sharpton is on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  He's leading a march in Washington today.  Al said the Republican party has been reduced fo a cult. Al says they are practicing social distancing at the March.  He claims that all of the marchers will be 6 feet apart.

Joe is very excited about the health conscious March in DC.

Willie made fun of Joe for wearing a sweater and calling it "throwback Morning Joe."

  • Love 4

Mika read the story that Lord and Taylor is closing all of her stores.  She is very, very sad about it because she bought a lot of news appropriate fashions there. She almost did the cry voice.

John Heileman criticized Trump's speech as "low energy."  John thinks it won't attract anyone who doesn't already support Trump. John thinks Trump is out of touch with swing state voters on race.

  • Love 4

Charlie Sykes made fun of the media saying that there are  peaceful protests behind images of burning buildings.

Joe wants Biden to continue to condemn the violence .

Mika was mad at Rudy for sweating last night & rubbing himself on his girlfriend.

Whatever Meeka had on under the black sweater was just odd.  The sleeves of the sweater were either pushed up or maybe were 3/4 length.  The pink top underneath looked to have long sleeves; they were loose and droopy, hanging out from under the black sweater.  Sloppy.  I get that it is time where women on the news should start refusing to wear the sleeveless, short dresses; it is even like that on The Weather Channel.  But purposely looking drab is not the way to go.  Even Joe has cleaned up with fashion (I think Meeka takes credit for that and good for her).

It was good to see Chris Webber - I didn't see the entire interview, only this last part where Willie is talking to him.  Was Joe able to stifle himself for a bit?  Maybe he is hesitant to interrupt a famous athlete.  Meeka just clapped a bit after Chris Webber talked.  Passionately.  Chris Webber, not Meeka.

This entire segment is excellent. I hate sports but I want to watch Cari and Jemele.

ETA: I'm cracking up because when they zoom out and do the tiny Brady Bunch boxes, you can no longer see the line between Joe's arms and his torso and he looks like a priest in a giant black robe with a white collar. Bless his heart.
