When all the friends and neighbors are in the Simpson living room prior to the Thanksgiving meal, on the TV you can Mayor Quimby with his pants around his ankles on a stage with Spiderpig -- a reference to 'National Anthem' episode of Black Mirror. In the same scene, the painting above the couch is the USS Callister. And even less with Edna, since Marcia Wallace just HAD to die not too far into that storyline. I got a laugh out of Lisa giving Todd a thumbs up when he renounced God, and then trying to sell Buddhism to him. I liked the tag of Lisa getting chewed out by Buddha. Yeah, loved the Jebus toast. I also liked Homer and Ned in their personal heavens, but I felt like it was too rushed. I did appreciate that their stay was only temporary, a la Homer the Heretic (which was a much better episode). Chaos Theory December 2, 2019 Share December 2, 2019 Ok once you get past Todd questioning God and his faith over the death of his mom should have been done like 20 seasons ago. this wasn't a horrible episode. I always did like the gag that Ned was basically stalking Reverend Lovejoy. I also liked the Lisa trying to convert Tod and the end credits with her not getting into Nirvana because Nirvana is for closers. But maybe with Ralph she has a shot. But of course Marge is the only one who gives Tod even the semblance of good advice that it may not actually matter who he prays to the praying is the important thing. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5784555

MadyGirl1987 December 2, 2019 Share December 2, 2019 Poor little guy! Felt so bad for Todd! Flanders seemed needlessly cruel disowning Todd and throwing him out of the house. That’s very much out of character for him. I’m glad they did this, even though, like others have mentioned, it feels a bit past time for them to be exploring the new effects of losing Maude when it happened 20 seasons ago. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5785237

Ha. Refreshing to see Sideshow Bob again, and at Christmas this time. I could've done without the flashback to the Face/Off episode, though. I wish we saw more of Bob as a lighthouse keeper, but doesn't he still have a wife and kid? That was weird. I did like the show reminding us that Kearney had a kid, and that Homer was a Mall Santa once, too. Burns's parents were also the ones seen at the beginning of Rosebud, too. I liked the trip to Santa's Village. Gotta appreciate that there were machines to grind your ears and toes to look like elves. Krusty at a Dreidel Casino seemed fitting. I appreciated that SB being the clue about the porch pirate lead to Selma getting arrested. Scott Bakula, Steve Ballmer voiced themselves! Sandra Bullock just Birdboxed her way out. I joked that SB was code for "Waylon Smithers" like from Who Shot Mr. Burns...and it turned out I was right. Once again Burns stole Christmas and there were no consequences for it. Well, he's rich, so that wasn't unusual. "Where are all the tycoons from your day?" I liked the 3-eyed raven that flew across the screen when it said 5 weeks before Xmas. You know, because Winter is Coming. :) And when it said 'Late Christmas Eve' when the Simpsons were following the gray van, you could see the cooling towers of Springfield Nuclear plant emitting red steam from one tower and green steam from the other tower. ottoDbusdriver January 6, 2020 Share January 6, 2020 I loved that on the back of Lisa's L'il Eco-Warrior magazine was an ad for the Canyonero Hybrid. Hah !! Quite a stretch back for that reference. And then over the end credits, you see Lisa reading the last issue of Eco-Warrior magazine. Tupac hologram: "Why won't you people let me die ?" Lisa: "I thought your name was 'Kidzrule'. Dr. Kidzrule: "It's short for 'Kidzrulevich', which is Romanian for kill all the children." The Lobster tank is back -- at least none were floating on the surface. Those synchronized swimmers made up to look like Artie Ziff .... were just a little creepy. Nelson: "Her smile makes me feel full, like I actually ate dinner last night." Bart: "If you never eat, how come you're so fat ?" Nelson: "Americans can be fat and poor -- that's what makes us so great." I liked that one of the robot versions of Marge was Bender from Futurama. In addition, there was slot machine Margebot, clothes washer Margebot, two Margebots with eye-patches for some reason, spider Margebot, Slinky pushme-pullyou Margebot, and let's not forget the Margeketeers who evolved wings and flew away (because life finds a way, which is a Jurassic Park reference). Totally agree with @Galileo908 -- whoever is doing Martin Prince's voice now needs to go back to voice acting class -- because his voice sounds way off, sounds more like Rod/Todd Flanders. We even got a Gov. Mary Bailey sighting. All I could think of when Lisa had her smile was the image of Lisa on The Log from 'Lisa the Tree Hugger' back in Season 12. Galileo908 February 17, 2020 Share February 17, 2020 Finally, an origin story for the Sea Captain! Color me shocked that he was married. So the STEM storyline was a lot like the Funzo storyline. The new school seems cool, but it's all about teaching kids that they're slaves to capitalism and the gig economy. There weren't enough lessons about how unions are evil. It wouldn't be the Simpsons if Lisa tried to ruin it. I did like that the one human job of the future is elder care. Sad, but true Zach Woods's character was too bland. He was just...there. Silicon Valley and Avenue 5 do him justice way better. I liked the easter eggs seen in the episode, like the Sideshow Bob skin, and THRILLHO being on the leaderboard. I also liked that the nuclear plant was coal powered, and Homer's whole John Henry-like battle against the Buzz Freestyle machine. I thought that was a weird hill to die on, but I see his point. What if you wanted Coke with orange but not with vanilla? And then everyone had to serve those machines in the future. DoctorAtomic February 17, 2020 Share February 17, 2020 (edited) I loved the cold Raiders of the Lost Ark opening because I had no idea what was going on. And then a song by John Legend. Tiegan and legend were also randomly funny. #PickyBitch - The NRC isn't going to fully automate reactors anytime soon. 1 hour ago, SoMuchTV said: Springfield has the only coal-powered nuclear plant? ottoDbusdriver February 17, 2020 Share February 17, 2020 Loved the Sea Captain's backstory. Of course the Mayor redrew the Springfield City limits to screw over the Sea Captain. Bart: "I'm going to stop you right there Skinner 2.0. It doesn't matter how you dress it up all schools are kid prisons." Zane: "Well I'm putting you in solitary. Where you'll learn geometry by shooting meteors. Shoot enough and you'll unlock customizable skins." Bart: "Skins ? That's how boys play dress up." Zane: "Who can give me an example of an algorithm ?" Lisa: "Oh, like when you buy a new garbage can online, and the rest of your life you see ads for garbage cans." Martin: "Or like when you watch a bunch of close-up magic videos on Youtube and gets ads for a suicide hotline." I liked how Groundskeeper Willie was making the letters for the sign out of MyPads, one letter per MyPad. Loved that Nelson's handle on the The Star Board was "Haw²" Kearney: "No one should see old people naked, unless that's your kink." Liked the end credits scene where Supernintendo Chalmers (at least that's what Ralph Wiggum calls him) was pulling a Jack from Titanic on the Ohio River cruise. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5942271

Chaos Theory February 17, 2020 Share February 17, 2020 (edited) I thought this was more subtle then the show usually gets. It is a viable theory that most jobs we are teaching for will be long gone by the time current generations become ready for them and with all the Baby boomers reaching their golden years the biggest market for mid and low paying jobs is going to be elder care. So you will have 2 basic Learning algorithms. The Lisa algorithm teaching for all the high powered tech jobs and the Bart algorithm where you teach for the multiple elder care jobs and side hustles. And yeah the Raiders of the Lost Arc opening with The Sea Captain was great. Welcome5431 February 21, 2020 Share February 21, 2020 Some subscribe to the notion that doing Elder Care is divine work. Apps and bots won't be rewarded in the next incarnation. Thus Elder Care indeed should be reserved for young humans. The Simpsons might have a prequel or sequel episode about compulsory domestic service during a gap year after high school. Galileo908 February 24, 2020 Share February 24, 2020 Season 31, Ep 13: Frinkcoin Quote Homer and Marge compete to be the topic of Lisa's "Most Interesting Person I Know" essay. Professor Frink develops a cryptocurrency, overtaking Mr. Burns' title of richest man in Springfield; Mr. Burns schemes to take his title back. Galileo908 February 24, 2020 Share February 24, 2020 Couch Gag: Cats! Somehow more coherent than the movie. I liked everything about Frink in this. It was good to see that Frink's dad was the same as the one we saw in THOH (his picture was also on his bookshelf). I also liked Smithers' plot, and I wanted to see more of the sycophant support group. "You'll have to excuse her. She's in the HUMANITIES." Boy I felt that. Jim Parson's film about cryptocurrency was very Troy MacClure-esque, I liked it. Loved how Disney forbids Patty and Selma from smoking. I loved the (inevitable) Three Billboards reference to Chief Wiggum. "Once again I am the richest man...in a town of 32,000 people." Good to see Mr. Burns be evil again. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5957868
ottoDbusdriver February 24, 2020 Share February 24, 2020 Pretty good episode. Loved Cletus' Hedge Fund. It was great getting more of Frink's story. I liked the wall of trivia champs in Moe's Tavern (2018 Almost Lenny). There must of have been a scene cut when Frink was answering the 4 trivia questions, as Moe's laptop started to smoke, but there was no follow up. The 2001: A Space Odyssey reference was a nice touch. The list of celebrities named during the Celebrity Executive Assistant Support Group were: -- Bruce Willis -- Christian Bale -- Roseanne -- Jared Leto -- Roseanne -- Katheine Heigl -- Trump -- Trump -- Trump -- Roseanne Frink: "That's it. From now on my only company will be A.I., I insist." A.I.: "My first independent thought is 'I dislike you'." Washington: "Didn't I fight along side of you during the war ?" Burns: "Um, we weren't on the same side, but I was there." The full text of the slide at the end of Jim Parsons' cryptocurrency video: "Cryptocurrency is a system that does not rely on a a non-cryptocurrency central authority, but instead relies on a non-centralized distributed consensus of cryptocurrency ownership. Using the word "cryptocurrency" repeatedly when defining cryptocurrency makes it seem like we have a cryptocurrency novice's understaning of cryptocurrency . Well, that is a total pile of cryptocurrency. In this system, rules are defined for the creation of additional units of cryptocurrency. They can be generated by fiat like traditional currency or just thrown around randomly or all given to LeBron. But for some reason these crypto guys are really into computers. So we have big buildings full of energy-gobbling air-conditioned computers solving useless math problems. But now we can't have straws ?! Also, we know who Satoshi is, but we're not telling." 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5958921
Chaos Theory February 24, 2020 Share February 24, 2020 I found the Celebrity Personal Assistant Support Group scene especially funny for whatever reason. Sycophantinol ask your doctor if it’s right for you. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5959369

Lol, that’s what I heard but wasn’t sure. My dad was arguing with me that it was always with a “d” and I was starting to doubt myself. It was weird. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5962359
853fisher February 25, 2020 Share February 25, 2020 @Izzy85 and @Tachi Rocinante have made me feel that my head might not be screwed as loose as I thought. ;) I watch with captions and they definitely rendered it as "Wayland," not "Waylon," the established character name. Maybe the joke is that Monty, er, Burns doesn't really even know his name? 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3625-the-simpsons-general-discussion/page/43/#findComment-5962746
