As long as none of you buy one and name him "Philly" :)

Mom made him promise not to fall in love and name it -- You're done for when you give them a name. He's in hog heaven working with the ponies at Refuge Inn.

The rule at home is No Strays. That doesn't stop them from showing up at the ranch and taking up residence.

Oh, I am sooo envious! I would love to be there with you guys right now! Another ninety degree day...*fans self, turns up fan*..

You'll be sleeping on a fold-out bed, and it doesn't look comfortable.

I concur. Also, my hair is beyond frizzy. I resemble a deranged poodle.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you! And I can't even speak on my hair situation. It's a good thing it's long and I can put it up straight out of the shower. It's a damn good thing I don't get many drop bye folks.  I'm FEELING deranged. Tho not as much as MAL. OH....Fuck off MAL!

so, yesterday was my birthday....family came for dinner....i was sick...

i think the heat got to me cause i was fine until about 9:30 then all of a sudden i broke out in a sweat...

turned on the ac, got a cold cloth and compress from freezer to put on my neck...

got the runs and got sick so went back to bed for a couple of hours....didn't feel all better but better than i did.

daughter and dear husband made a fabulous dinner that i couldn't eat much of....and black forest cake for dessert...so good...

i ended up going to bed at about 8pm and didn't get up until 5:20am this morning..

my grands made me birthday cards.    dawnica had a flower on the front, and a big heart on the inside...

logan's card made me laugh...on the fron t of it, taking up half the page was 23 in big numbers..

below that he wrote "and that's how old you'll forever be"....so true.

on the inside of the card he drew (and he hates drawing) a freehand pic of the face of optimus prime and bumblebee.. then he wrote, one shall stand, one shall fall....daughter teri gave me "casino cash" and a bouquet of flowers...

And since we're on a mom theme:

Took a walk around Lake Bemidji tonight to search for Mama Merganser and her big brood

The common merganser are among a number of bird species that can care for their young in a "day care system" called a crèche. In a crèche, multiple females leave their offspring in the care of an experienced female.

Sorry you had what we call "summer stomach" and I hope you're feeling better!

I think that was what was wrong with my Peaches last night. She just slept under the bed all day (hiding from the heat, lol) and when she finally came out she drank about a gallon of water. Naturally it came right back up. Poor kitty.

Awwww! I'm so sorry for Peaches. Poor kitty. I'm expecting the world to explode at any minute. We've got 4 adults here and at 3 PM it sounds like 3AM. Nobody is moving around. No TV's are on or anything. Totally odd here. My Dad and his wife are downstairs and I'm afraid to even go down and check on them. Is it normal to be afraid of aging and ill parents cuz it's really flipping me out.

It's totally normal. My dad has Alzheimer's and yesterday we had to take him in for a test to see if he should keep driving. He failed spectacularly. I don't even want to look at the paperwork. I know I'm going to have to put him in care soon but I just don't know how to do it. You know, your kids grow up and leave home and you and your husband think ahhh finally, we can travel and be on our own and then NOPE. I feel for you Fairy, it's so difficult to watch your parents start to fade and falter.

Thank you for sharing @peacheslatour. How awful. My husband is roughly their age. (Alright, Y'all can stop laughing lol) But he is in much better health overall. It's really weird that after I sent the post I heard the door open and Daddy was dressed in long sleeves and a leather vest. WTF?! He wanted to finally register his car after 2 years. I gave him my phone because he forgot his. He's gonna shit trying tying to use a smart phone. Especially with all my twitter shit popping up. Can't wait for the return conversation on that one!

Yes! He bruises if you look at him too hard! He was back in 20 minutes. We live 2 mins from our one desk DMV. I would had Hubby go with him but I don’t want him to feel like I’m taking away his independence.

Ever older person on blood thinners I've ever known is always cold. My dad is just getting off Eliquis and he has bruises all over and he wears a jacket even though it's in the nineties here. Better than dying from a blood clot I guess.

Makes sense. I've bought him 2 electric throw blankets since he has moved in and he always is wrapped up. His health has been declining over the last year and it just hit me this past week that's it's not the same guy who taught me to ride a bike. And his wife.....OMG She has bipolar and we have to watch her constantly. She pulled a knife on him and the cops had to come come wrangle her NAKED ass out. She actually clapped her cheeks at them. LOL! We laugh now I just hope she takes all her meds properly. Dad says he has no idea because she hides them. YIKES!

Yes. We built up a full apartment in the basement for them. It's nice. Hell I wanna move down there;)

That does sound nice. I have a Senior Care living facility picked out for my dad, it's less than a mile from us and it has car service, cafes, a movie theater and a gym. Not to mention concierge services, maid service and a spa. Shit I want to live there.

Things are looking dicey on the pony front -- Mom and Gran visited Refuge Inn yesterday with lunch for Dad; he doesn't like to break up his training day with nonsense like taking a lunch break. He introduced them to the mares and foals he had gentled to be brushed, wear halters and follow hand directions.

623ca8d5baa49f31ad482052e422654b--beauti

"Can I follow you home? I won't be any trouble at all …"

That's what they all say.

As Mom was rounding the corner of Cute and Baby Rabies Lane, Gran dragged her out of the training ring, "We are not shipping a mare and foal to California when there are hundreds of wild mustangs being rounded up and destroyed on Federal land outside our backdoor."

*DO NOT get Gran started on the Department of the Interior and Bureau of Land Management. She makes the Bundy's look like a Cub Scout Troop -- Anarchy is fun!

Trinket joined the neighbor's card party (they own the house we're renting) and played 500. She counted her stacks of coins and went to the bank for paper.

Mr.Stunt, the Things, my sister Bea and I went fishing and brought home speckled seatrout for dinner. Yum!

Post-dinner family vote was over-whelming (with one Neigh) that no ponies will be shipped to California. We did resolved to hit the local boozer and Trinket's buying.

All in favor say aye -- AYE!

All opposed -- *feet running to the car*

Now for something completely different ...

My dad took his driving test on Thurs. and failed miserably. On Fri. I had a stern talk with him and he promised to take taxis. I gave him the phone numbers for car services. That same night I got a call from the Bellevue police, he was wandering around Bell Square and had lost his car again, for the third time in the last six months. My husband went to pick him up and I had a terrible spike in blood pressure. I spent all of yesterday in bed. We have an appt. with a nearby retirement center on Thurs. I can't even talk to him right now. I've never been so angry in my life.

How could you not have had a spike in blood pressure?  That's terrifying, peacheslatour, on all levels.

I'll be hoping this retirement center works out ASAP.  Do you have power of attorney for your Dad?

What would happen if you took his keys away?  Though I know with my dad that would have ignited a fire storm.

Yes, I have Durable and Medical Power of Attorney and since he has bee diagnosed with Alzheimers he can't rescind it. I told him as much on Fri. He got really defiant and I think he was trying to prove me, the doctors and all of his friends wrong. Backfired didn't i,t dad? He's going into a home whether he likes it or not. I'm thinking of having an intervention with myself, my son and husband and some of his close friends. I don't know what else to do. I've had my phone off the hook all weekend because my son and husband are both out of town and I refuse to deal with him right now. I've had it. It's been a year and a half since my mom died and I have been as kind and patient as I know how, but I'm just done.

HUGS! and of course fairydust to our @peacheslatour! That's terrifying on all levels. I'd be off the hook  and off the chain with that. I'm not going to pretend to think this is easy but I'm glad you have everything in place. DAMNIT! Weren't we just joking last week about the very place. What can we bring? Wine? Weed? Cereal? Venting?

Oh, my! Well isn't he adorable, and he's a better dancer than I am, haha.

I'm sorry things are so sucky, Peaches.

My brother, the crazy one, wants to go off his meds because he's fat. The meds made him put on lots of weight, and my mother, rather than supporting him for taking his meds, has made nothing but comment after comment about how he's gotten fat which isn't helping the situation. I'm beyond annoyed and livid.  He also apparently did speed the other day but I'm not supposed to say anything according to my other brother who told me about it. I swear, this family makes me want to murder people.

On a somewhat positive not, I went out and saw the fireworks last night. I haven't gone to see fireworks in easily 16 years. It was beautiful.

@peacheslatour, hugs to you.  It is definitely not easy when you get to this point.  I don't have great words of wisdom, I just know how you feel.

One thing I will offer is that I learned so much about Alzheimer's and I also learned that the patient is in and out of reality, and that confusion can make them angry and defiant.  Because they realize they are losing it all.  It is hard on you and the family but they are trying to cope with the uncertainty that is facing them.  I was not this knowledgeable when I went through this with my mom.  I hope you are okay with my words, not sure if it is helpful; but I am available if you want to chat about it some more.

(((Peaches)))

I'm so sorry the grief of your mother's death, and the frustration of your father's failing cognition is tearing you apart. The responsibility you bear for his safety and welfare is too much to carry alone, especially when this last episode is taking a toll on your health.

Please contact your father's social worker, and explain that you're physically exhausted and at the end of your tether. It's not a failure to admit that his progressing Alzheimer's Disease is greater than your ability to cope with it. An intervention may not be the answer when he's combative and oppositional in his abilities against the incidents involving police intervention. Talking to someone not embroiled, but has experience and alternatives may be the best option for your father and you.

Chincoteague Island/Outer Banks/Chesapeake Bay area has been a 5 star vacation for us Left Coasters.

It's beautiful. The people friendly, plenty of history and excellent national/state parks, the locally-grown food has been plentiful and delicious, the shore fishing is worth the trip alone, lots of things to do and plenty of quiet to unwind. Even after the Pony Swim visitors dispersed (the numbers were down because of the weather), the island was peaceful.

I apologize for not being able to resize the photos. There's a new procedure for sizing pics, and I need to go to New Smart Phone Whiskey Plate School. My Flickr account is jammed with billboard-size photos from the vacation.

so, on the local news today they were talking about a new online phishing scam..

apparently, you will get an email saying you should change your password cause "they" have hacked into your computer and have video of you watching online porn.   they will show it to all unless you give them some money in bitcoins...something about the camera on your computer.

police said they don't actually have any video of you but you don't know that.

anyway, i cut a piece of the sticky end of a post it note and covered up the lens to my laptop computer..

i saw on the view one day that you can actually buy stickies to cover your camera lens...it was one of whoopie's fave things.
