bravelittletoaster April 27, 2014 Share April 27, 2014 That Entertainment Weekly piece is pretty informative. It's the cover story this week, and you can buy the issue digitally for your tablet or phone through iTunes [or presumably Google Play]. I recommend it. Tidbits for season 2 [which I'm assuming are not "spoilers" by our working definition because they've been published by mainstream media]: Season 2 picks up a few weeks after season 1 ends, with Piper having served time in SHU for her 'tucky beatdown. Alex is in the premiere and three more episodes. And yes, will be full time in season 3 presuming there is one. We get back stories on Lorna, Tastee and Crazy Eyes among others. There are some steamy Vauseman scenes [presumably flashbacks] that tested the actors' comfort levels [and I am here for that all day.] 2 Link to comment

Kohan also told the avid audience, "It has been an incredible whirlwind. Someone once told me that the entertainment business is like a pie-eating contest where the prize is more pie, and I'm drowning in pie, but it's the most delicious pie! bravelittletoaster May 21, 2014 Share May 21, 2014 Yeah, I read a really interesting article once by a reporter who was in their "war room" for the launch of season one, and that wasn't even that prominent a launch at the time because no one thought this would be that big a hit. 3 am EST / 12a PST guarantees fewer people all piling in at once, unlike if they tried this shit at 3 pm / 12 pm for instance. Even for something with comparatively little buzz like the Orange launch, they had something like 30 engineers on hand monitoring action across all platforms [web, Wii, Apple TV, Xbox, whatever] and fixing any issues that cropped up. It was really interesting but I have no idea where I read that. 1 Link to comment

bravelittletoaster June 3, 2014 Share June 3, 2014 (edited) Pretty good interview with Jason and Laura from this week's UK/European press blitz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnuuJhdXkj4 ETA: I like the interviewer's comparison of Larry to Skyler White on Breaking Bad as a divisive character outside the main action who makes decisions that nonetheless impact it. Not a perfect analogy perhaps, but I thought it was an interesting one. ETA2: Jenji was one of the participants in a comedy show runners' roundtable hosted by the Hollywood Reporter. Really interesting if you like showbiz inside biz stuff and also really entertaining: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/video/comedy-showrunners-roundtable-watch-full-709125?utm_source=gravity&grcc2=60c43e2066813418955df61220b34083~1401915470054~01b0b9ad501e0c849a822e6124ff0fc2~06658ceb71d418feb34a3e001c3dd0fa~1401906660000~598~34~0~0~0~-1~-1~-1~18~34~38~H4sIAAAAAAAAAI2OzWrcQBCEXyU67MlITM9_-2YcDDkb5ypmRy1LyaxmGY1W7KWfPXJyyCUhaQqa6mo-aqr1elJPJ_lyaN_3bsop3fech0LXXCqVLubLkVVKdJvXOS-swAOiRfAGHaIALXj6X85tHigf-3A03Nt1ynvZloXK2pa8LUMN50TtHmqc2nFLqXUCQZqTetnqpV_zViKd1Of3Em5zvTOgAmaDnr1gAWdxxjAYASSi1xi8lGRB6nEUY5T_fmBe50pfhsdWA4C3YCWic4DCeNvHcLmG-X35yI22RijrvEShnEIrPR8N2LN1muP3vut_ofo_oR5-o_q_oA69vTZvywEZPr3WUGlttNLN8xRKyvWwtzklaozXjfKdkCjRNa3znXbW_Tw3X58YvbVCBxVJo1MUBsKoCMwQRxFhlOxsB1J1ynSAmtdvEdpwnYVwlseQVuKP-QE7uoq5JwIAAA Sorry that link is so huge. Rhondinella June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 I have been watching the Behind the Bars features on Netflix. I've always loved Kate Mulgrew from waaaay back (well before she did her Star Trek stint, even) so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that of all those features hers was by far the best. She's not only funny and super talented, of course, but proves herself hella intelligent and wise as well. I really think she and I need to be best friends. Here's the link. It also features Jenji talking about how she originally wanted an actual Russian for the part of Red, but says that Kate was so amazing in her audition that afterwards they couldn't see anyone else doing the role. 1 Link to comment

When I was zipping through the online TV guide last night, it looked like Taylor S. was on one late night show (Jimmy Fallon maybe) while Laura P. was another at the same time (David Letterman, I think). bravelittletoaster June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 (edited) Oh, I know. It's great for them. I'm just generally more interested in what it means for us. Ha. Though when they made such a big deal about Taryn's promotion last year I thought it would mean more of her this year, which turned out not to be the case. So I'm just saying the effect on screen's probably not that different. Except in Prepon's case.. But I'm all for the people getting paid. bravelittletoaster June 14, 2014 Share June 14, 2014 (edited) Natasha Lyonne interview on Sirius XM with video. God, she's funny. She seems like she'd be so much fun to hang out with: Talks about how she sent the pilot to a few actor friends, two of whom were offered parts and turned them down. “It felt a little bit like, wait, why aren’t you guys going to do it…?” A little confidence-unsettling, but she believed in it. Hilarious conversation about the mechanics of oral sex on a woman: “You’re going down on girls all the time.”“Am I? I mean, I remember they’re always putting Vaseline on my face, but I don’t watch the show, so…” Talks about the lack of metrics on Orange and how that’s typical of her career and doesn’t phase her. ETA: This is also a fun short piece the NYT did on hanging out with her and her friends for an evening: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/15/fashion/a-night-out-with-natasha-lyonne-of-orange-is-the-new-black.html?_r=0 Talk turned to Ms. Lyonne’s shooting schedule and her role on “Orange.” She conceded that it is sometimes difficult to figure out where she ends and her character begins.“With ‘But I’m a Cheerleader,’ everything was from the outside in,” she said, referring to one of her early movies. “The costumes, the straightened hair. With ‘Orange Is the New Black,’ by the end of a six-month season in that prison, it starts to feel like I am this person. My accent’s thicker, I’m walking tougher, I’m officially living in that part.” Edited June 14, 2014 by bravelittletoaster Link to comment

MMLEsq June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 This doesn't really fit in any thread, so I'm putting it here..... I've been listening to Pandora at work today. Periodically, it stops playing music and will play an advertisement. I happened to look up at one point and it was running an ad for OITNB. Then, after the ad played, the wallpaper of the site changed to an OITNB ad and it had three links for three stations you could click on: Piper Chapman, "Pornstache" Mendez, and "Taystee" Jefferson. I clicked on Mendez first.... I tried to jot down the songs as they were playing, but I might have missed one or two: (1) "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk; (2) "Cream (NPG Mix)" by Prince; (3) "Sex As A Weapon" by Pat Benatar; (4) "Can't Tell Me Nothing" by Kanye West; (5) "Swagga Like Us" by Jay-Z and T.I. Then I got bored and switched over to the Piper station: so far...(1) "King of Anything" by Sara Bareilles; (2) "Chandelier" by Sia; (3) "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet; (4) "Big Jet Plane" by Angus and Julia Stone. After another song or so, I'm going to switch over to the Tastee station... Link to comment
