S03.E03: Actual Physical Violence

We got a whopping three votes in the poll; two for an all season episode thread, one for the indivdual threads.

However, a point was made that activity may pick up with Chicago Fire returning this Tuesday. So, what I'll do is put up the individual episode synopsis below for this week's episode. If the activity level doesn't pick up with this one, I'll use the All Seasons Thread method. Thanks.

Without further ado:

While Platt tries to manage a chaotic desk area, a man struggling to get her attention takes a drastic action and demands that the unit find his missing daughter. Commander Fischer informs Voight that Bunny is bringing up new accusations on a case from his past. Lindsay urges her mother to fix the situation. Antonio is shocked to learn a secret Olinksy has been keeping.

Excellent episode. Mouse got to be a freaking badass not once but twice. We got some hints about Halsteads's back-story. And annoying teenage girl turned a lot less annoying around Antonio. The Olinsky dinner scene was painful to watch but well acted. Plus we got a good cliffhanger (bonus surprise that everybody got away from the car - didn't expect that).

Great episode although how could Voight tell there was a bomb? Glad to see Justin back but there's something about him that I still don't trust.

Olinsky family dinner was mortifying. Worst part about it was that I didn't get the impression he cared that much about his wife's reaction just moreso Lexi. I gotta say in that moment I liked him a little less. Still though, it's out there now and I've a feeling his other daughter will be living with them in no time.

I have to say the crossovers are starting to feel really natural. The appearances of Will and Platt (who's character name I can't remember) have me excited for Chicago Med.

The guy who played Jeff was great in the episode. I recognize the actor from Gotham where he played a dirty cop.

Great episode for Mouse and glad to get a bit of development with Jay as well.

This season is a lackluster so far for me, since most of the characters I love or like are taking a backseat. But it seems that Voight will be back as a focus so I might get more interested.

I liked Mouse, now I love him.

I hate that Olinsky's family is falling apart.

I'm so tired of the uninterrupted Chicago Med advertisement and of the Halstead brothers.

The only thing they really got right for me this season, for now,  is Bunny as the villain you love to hate. I was wrong to call her a toilet brush. It was too nice. Once again, kudos to Markie Post because she plays it perfectly.

I got the impression that he'd already resigned himself to her reaction.  I think he'll try to save the marriage but understands that this may be the dealbreaker and has accepted it.

I thought it was dumb & disrespectful to his wife to make the announcement at the dinner table like some vaguely interesting piece of family news. Why wouldn't he have a private conversation with his wife first and then figure out how to talk to their daughter together (which by that time would also presumably include a decision whether he was to be banished to the garage again)?

Loved it.

Michael McDonald as overall boss, so good. Mouse, omg--overpowering the desperate Dad (and Jay's "what took you so long?" To him!) secretly taking out the bullets. Trudy, in charge, impossible to read, so serious. Erin, so sincere with kidnap victim plus perfect makeup in the dramatic el car scene. Markie Post: she defines selfish and despicable without any redeeming qualities--love an actor atretching herself so convincingly.

Yes we watch too much TV here in the MML household, but on a latenight Murder She Wrote last night, there was a young Jason Beghe, identifiable by his head movements but not yet whisper talking.

And Josh Segarra! I thought he came back just to be killed off but apparently not? He will always be the Sirens-stealing Billy to me.

Wikipedia says the whisper talk is just his voice after an incident with a breathing tube.

Mouse is everything. EVERYTHING. He's almost slight, and as the hacker, it's very easy to forget how he and Halstead know each other.  He played it so smoothly you know he's used to guns and confrontation...gosh. I adore him.

GIVE ATWATER MORE TO DO.

Love Oliver Platt hope he sticks around some.

Still not liking Olinsky's attitudinally challenged new daughter!

Trudy still has skills, the desk has not slowed her down a bit.

I am not Voights biggest fan, but, at least he has Erin's best interests at heart. Where Bunny is just a user, in more ways than one!

Bunny can go away and Halsteads brother can disappear with her.

I don't feel like looking up the trope but when its not time for our hero to die. I.E.D.s always use some kind of noisy mechanical timer for the overwhelming plot purpose of not having a bomb detecting dog around.

Oliver Platt and Halsteads brother are set to appear in Med so I'd say we'll get one or the other appearing in each episode until the show launches..

Maybe we're supposed to assume it happened off camera...but did Olinsky actually ask for a paternity test? It just seemed like this sketchy woman from his past randomly shows up, says, "Hey, you have a kid!" and he accepted it without question.

Poor Olive...we've seen her in Voight's house exactly twice. And exactly twice she's stumbled into mortal danger, heh.

Great episode although how could Voight tell there was a bomb?

When Voight turned the key in the car door, there was a buzzing sound. Guess that's what you get if you hire a low-bid bomb maker. Now that I think about it, are cop cars so basic that they don't have keyless entry?

Kinda related, I'm still taking bets as to Bunny's exact manner of death...

Dr. Platt (actor Oliver, not character Trudy-- and doesn't any TV public services psychiatrist use an office, or is all the therapy on the fly at a coffee shop, bar, what have you, any more?) and Halsted's brother aren't the only crossover characters--I want to see Fire's Mouch's daughter he never knew about hang out with Olinsky's daughter he never knew about. What, Olinsky, undercover cops can't use condoms or they would blow their cover (heh--I totally did not do that on purpose)?

Did they actually get back together? I don't remember. Vaguely - she was held hostage, or the daughter was...? Has he moved out of the garage back in? I didn't mind (relatively speaking) that he told them together. The daughter is a young adult, right?

I *think* so? Clearly I have no memory for anything.

I also liked Jay's "It's about time!" to Mouse.

don't care about the Olinsky love child -the storyline - but the actress has the indifferent teen snarl down pat.

I heard the buzzing too.

This made me laugh like a loon. I imagine the guy had just gotten out of jail and since he did not want to waste time exacting his revenge, his bomb-making choices may have been limited. He should have waited and comparison shopped for his bomb-maker.

They got back together. I think out of respect for his wife in front of their teenage daughter he could have told her in private first so that way she could have had time to get her head around it. He betrayed them both by lying but he betrayed his wife also by cheating. Blurting it out in front of their daughter was just cold though.
