Why don't they close down the concession stands and bathrooms during the anthem so everyone is forced to stand up? Better yet, why doesn't every armchair asshole stand up at home during the anthem ins

I have to agree here.  This season was just OK at best.  It probably helped that I didn't really start focusing on it until Week 10.  That was intentional, by the way.  Whatever happened to start that was different would end up not playing out.

As a result, it was same old, same old.  Buffalo and Baltimore couldn't get there, and it looked like the NFL 21st century version of NBA 20th century Jordan denying people.

As mentioned, the only thing that could happen between a recent match-up was the opposite outcome.  I think the necessary blowout is what made up for everything.  At least for me.

I'm not an Eagles fan but (like their baseball team) I do respect those guys from Philadelphia.  I don't think I'd have been thrilled if they did that to most other AFC teams.  As much as it would've sucked if Buffalo was in that spot, I'd laugh at the Bills losing to all of the NFC East teams.  That's in.

Oh well.  Onto other things in life.  Of course the NFL never dies.  So in addition to the combine, Free Agency, the NFL Draft, and Schedule Release will arrive sooner over later.

The Chiefs spent a lot focusing on stopping Barkley (and they did kinda, he didn't bust too many big runs), they forgot to focus on stopping the Eagles D.  With the Defense getting to Mahomes there was no way to get any plays to develop.   Then Mahomes got jumpy and made those dumb throws.  

The halftime show was a big FU to a lot of things and I loved it.   And I don't even like Kendrick Lamar.

the commercials were mostly creepy.   What was with all the body parts going off on their own this year?   I did love the Lays potato chip commercial, that was cute the budeweiser one was cute too.   Harrison whispering his last name in the Jeep commercial was funny.

That was one of the most satisfying SB's I've ever watched!  Before the game started, I said to Mr. Chat "wouldn't it be something if the score ended up being 35-7 or 14 (Eagles win)."  Dang, to have that play out close to that was awesome!  Bama nation is proud of our guys on the Eagles team.  

It's not always the best move to defer the kickoff.  I don't think the KC offense got on the field for about 9 minutes into the 1st quarter.  😲

Overall, I thought Fox did a good job with the pre-game festivities.  I enjoyed all of the pre-game music.  Most of the commercials were just meh.  I loved the Clydesdales though.  We rarely watch the halftime, and we didn't this time either.  Rap music isn't our thing.  

That was a nice tribute to Jimmy Johnson.  When asked if he's retiring, he said he's taking it a day at a time.  I hope he's okay.  I've read that he's trying to make up for lost time with his family, so I guess we'll see what he decides to do in the coming months.  Don't they film the Fox NFL show in California?  I wouldn't want to make that commute from Miami to Calif. every other week, like he's been doing.

I must admit I found myself absolutely delighted to see KC humiliated like that. They got booed and at one point the crowd did KC's stupid chant ~but only to mock them. It was delicious.  

I guess I'm old cuz I did not understand what was going on at halftime, and found myself wondering if they will ever just have a great band play again. RIP Tom Petty! 

I FF'd between plays, so am wondering if they even showed Taylor Swift weeping over her man. Don't cry for her, Argentina, she will write a successful new album of sad songs over this devestation. 😁

Since the Eagles thankfully won the Super Bowl, who would be the poor slouch that has to suffer through that dumb, pointless, & not fun anymore parade at Disney World today? If i just won the Super Bowl, the last place that I would want to be at the next day is some crummy parade at Disney World. Besides, the upcoming parade on Broad Street in Philadelphia on Friday will be way more fun & exciting than the one at Disney World. 

Also, who is gonna have to get remotely excited about wanting to go to Disney World after winning the Super Bowl? That commercial used to fun & heartwarming a long time ago. Now, its just downright meh.., pointless, & the complete opposite of excitement. I think that it outlived its usefulness of being charming & it really needs to go away.

I didn't have a problem with the halftime show.  I may have thought it was great and maybe mentioning that it was disappointing elsewhere.  In the moment reactions do that, but at the end of the day it trended on being average.  To each their own.  Still nowhere near the Super Bowl 56 performance!

Couldn't agree more about the Disney stuff.  If I'm in that position, I'm still sleeping.  Hangover and Disney do not mix.  There's plenty of time to make that Orlando, Florida trip.  A day trip is lame, you have to do a week there.  Or a weekend if not 4 days / 3 nights combining with a stay somewhere close enough before and after the trip

I agree.  I didn't watch it live, but I tried to watch it this morning on YouTube.  I had to 'close caption' it because it was just all one big word salad to me!   A few sentences in and I was done.  I hate rap.  YMMV.

When I first saw Kendrick Lamar doing the NBA All-Star game halftime, make that his rival Drake and Nicki Minaj do one of those New Year's eve shows a half decade before I knew that I had passed out of the target demographic. That he was the young guy with the second-generation rappers in the Dr Dre hosted by Snoop Los Angeles Super Bowl and I was into the 90-2000s elders I knew this might be problematic. Using Samuel L. Jackson to highlight that everyone knew that with the generational thing going on there would be problems was an inspired choice.

Over on the 90 Day Fiancé forum it's reported that they had a cameo chorus line dancer to go along with the Serena Williams cameo. I wonder if more were sprinkled into the red, white and blue cast.

I grew up when hip hop/rap first came to be.  I kept up with into the 90s.  But now while I know the names I know very few songs.  I think Super Bowl 56 halftime show probably appealed to a wider demographic but sometimes you have to let the new generation take their place.

I assume the player who does this gets paid.  If so, maybe some base level special teams player might be interested.  But today's superstars who are making 7+ figures per week?  Whatever Disney is paying would be pocket change for these guys.  Back when a player made less than $1 million per year, getting $50 or $75K for one day's work might have been enticing.  But right after the game, it's probably the last thing any of them want to do, then or now.

I think the Disney ad just became a traditional part of the champion's honor. It started long after athletes on the big US money sports needed second jobs or endorsements to live comfortably, assuming they are not wasting their cash on entourages. 

"I'm going to D" ad being filmed on the spot, before the player could think maybe an Universal guy has a check in his hand and is trying to get around security.   It would be little different than the White House visit was just a newer part of the champion's tradition of honors before players decided to enter the political fray and would visit only if they approved of the person living at the White House.

No matter who the singer is, they won't be able to please everyone.  As long as it's rap music though, that's our cue for a short break.  I won't listen to it.  🙄

I liked all of the pre-game singers: Lady Gaga; Trombone Shorty & Lauren Daigle; Harry Connick Jr. & the singers/band around him; John Batiste was awesome too.  I didn't know who he was, but I liked his New Orleans flair on the anthem.  They probably could've continued the New Orleans/jazz theme with the halftime show.  That would be better than rap. YMMV.   Give us something different than that.

Had the halftime show been jazz, I would not have been able to hit the mute button fast enough.

It's true that we all have different preferences, of course.  I loved Kendrick's show, but I'm a child of the 80s and 90s: rap and hip hop were an elemental, constant presence in the music of my formative years (as were pop, classic rock, grunge, glam, etc.).  And Kendrick is so good at what he does and so brilliant with the art he creates that he's won a Pulitzer Prize.

And boy, did I love Tom Petty's halftime show, too, back in 2008.  Tragic game, though.

Being football the marching band was from one of the Louisiana HCBU's, Southern University. Largely due to the power of their football program the rival Louisiana school Grambling's band was featured in early Super Bowl halftime shows. 

At one point Grambling's coach Eddie Robinson made it his mission to produce a Black quarterback that the NFL would not shift to another position. Changing up the school's long dominate offense during the 60s for that purpose. Ultimately getting James (Shack) Harris and the Rams to the playoffs and finally Doug Williams to the Washington Super Bowl win just as the NFL with Joe Montana was shifting what they wanted from the quarterback position.

Oh yes.  I'm so glad you asked.

It doesn't help that, in a different sport, someone else has accomplished more and made other people that much better, but it's a high crime to say that the current 40-year old might be the new GOAT over a 61-year old that will be a 62-year old in a week.

Let's dismiss the fact that the team that drafted Patrick was much better than the 2000 Patriots team, and that Andy Reid had more success with nothing unlike Belichick.  Except for 1994.  To be fair, Bill is a damn great DC who led a squad that featured a guy that, when the world ends, will be the last league MVP on his side of the ball.

Those that said the above (3-peat nonsense) talked because they love to hear the sound of their voice.  To be fair, the trend is Mahomes passing TB12.  However, there was a bigger trend related to Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.  IMO, wait until it's over before crowning someone new or not

On a musician's board that I am a member of long ago the Super Bowl halftime has been a banned topic due to the what seems to be a largely generational battle of what is "good" music. Now that my thing, even samples taken from it to rap over, is no longer first choice to get the broad audience I will just have to accept Father Time working on popular music as much as he does on great athletes.

Kendrick did a rather admirable job of self censoring himself. Actually impressive given the volume of cuss words and the possible penalty of slipping up.

They featured Aerosmith at one SB and then brought out Britney Spears.  Pfft.  I'm a fan of 70's rock, so Aerosmith would've been just fine by themselves.   

 I didn't mean that I wanted an all-jazz halftime, but something with that New Orleans vibe with a peppy beat would've been nice. Bruno Mars did great for his SB halftime show years ago.  For those who like rap, that's fine.  I think it's crap, and I will die on that hill.  YMMV.  😉

As I said, TPTB won't be able to please everyone, so I'm not mad.  I just don't watch the halftime if I don't like who the singer is, and more times than not the past few years, I don't watch it. Not a big deal.  

Tom Brady looked really thin.  I've seen other posts about it on other forums.  Hopefully he's okay.

IIRC correctly, I think they used a simple opening featuring a past player or member of one of the teams playing on a certain night.  For example, they had Barry Sanders opening MNF around 2011 for a Lions game (the season where they made the playoffs for the first time in quite awhile).   Hank Williams returned mid-to-late that decade after being bumped at the beginning of it, and since 2020, ESPN does something else.

Yeah, same here.  I'm fine with what they do now, but I'm a big fan of the past more than change.  The nostalgia is there for me.  Of course it's not the same since the league has added 2 additional stand-alone games on a higher level since Roger became the commissioner.

BTW Chit Chat, on a different note, Desmond Howard, who won the Heisman as a member of a Big Ten program, who the Super Bowl MVP half a decade later.  Still a small sample size since the beginning.

On a related music note, I love jazz.  It's pretty peaceful, rather unique, and a breath of fresh air.  Something I've turned on in lieu of nonsense that occurs on television (and radio) from time to time.  Jazz as a featured Super Bowl halftime show?  Hard pass for me.  Maybe as part of a solo or special guest, but that's it.  I should mention that I was pretty much joking about Weird Al and a comedian.  Can't really do that in the Big Game at this point

Given the current administration and what Rage tried to do on SNL when Forbes was hosting, I don't think the NFL is going to put them on the list. 

You could do something like Trombone Shorty arranging a half time show with various artists like his most recent album. It wasn't jazz-jazz. It's more funk and rock. 

That's not what the gig really is anymore though.
