Among the several things happening to open up Super Bowl Week, Roger Goodell squashes any theory about the Champions Getting Favorable Treatment from Officiating.

To compare or contrast from the above, the grass is not green, the sky isn't blue, and blood isn't red.  Plus, corn isn't yellow, Christmas is July 25, New Year's Day falls on March 12 24 times within a 28-Year Period, and the Buffalo weather is so gorgeous year round

Esp since I read the Referee of the Chiefs/Bills game has been suspended due to numerous missed calls against the Chiefs.

How do you square that, Mr. Goodell?

Apparently, the story that the ref was suspended is not true.

Come on, don't try to let something stupid like "the facts" interrupt our narrative about how the league is rigged.

Fear not, the narrative works either way.

If the ref had been suspended, it's proof that the refereeing is rigged, because this ref was caught and punished.

If the ref had not been suspended, it's proof that the league is rigging the games because it's not stopping the referees.

Missed calls happen all the time since the sport is so fast and umpires are human. The fact that there were two big missed calls despite video replay makes me curious why this system is in place if it’s not going to be beneficial. No way the NFL is going to admit they were wrong, and unfortunately nothing will change.

100 percent.  The fact is the folks at home are going off of replay speed as opposed to actual speed.  They're going to get stuff wrong; everybody makes mistakes.  As for the league's admittance, that's not a big deal.  I'd prefer they don't admit wrongdoings, as it'll change nothing anyway.

While the preceding paragraph labels me as a hypocrite due in large part to my post up-thread, it's still an issue across the NFL, let alone Kansas City.  The champions have benefited (I think Jason McIntyre had posted stats about it, especially the postseason).  It may be annoying since the legacy calls help pimp the face of a dynasty, but that's been going on forever.  Furthermore, and to be fair here, at least most of the teams don't do enough.  They're not very good; they tend to do the bare minimum.

Just leave no doubt next time.  Easier said than done, but to be fair, while the officials make mistakes, so do the players & coaches

I can't remember if when greatness gets the call today if that gets disclosed prior to prime time hours or not.  I think no but after the move from Saturday to Thursday.  Meanwhile, the season awards probably get met with a half ton of criticism.

Those decisions might not be as excessively as what looks like favorable decisions for Kansas City but it will make for better debates than the ones I have been recently hearing.

For example, Patrick "officially" passing Tom as the GOAT.  How about, hell no?!

Eli didn't make it.

But Sterling Sharpe and Antonio Gates did.

He'll get there eventually, although maybe not next year since he'll look worse compared to Brees (pretty much guaranteed to get in) and Rivers (pretty much guaranteed to not).

We also saw the other limit of playoff power since Vinateri didn't get in.  Still think he'll make it one day.

that was a rough show.   For a multibillion dollar organization, the NFL put on a terribly run show.

teleprompter problems, bad graphics, the camera on the wrong guy during the HOF names, the lame lame lame skits.   Just poorly run.

the only thing they got right was getting Virginia McCaskey into the In Memoriam segment.   You know that tape was cut weeks ago, the would have had to edit her in AND adjust the run time to make it fit the music.

I actually thought about it throughout the week; I just haven't moved forward to going all-in for one.  As mentioned, this year is just okay at best.

Last year we "live chatted" in this thread.  I think that wasn't too bad, but it might mix in with non Super Bowl posts that someone might want to seek out.  The unknown is the interest within the game.

To be honest, it seems that interest takes a major dip, but then sort of out of nowhere it's made up and then some by a different, random audience.  For example, 10 Million people might forgo watching the festivities.  However, the net gain that ends up tuning into the events is about 5 Million due to 15 Million "new fans" watching for something, usually not-related to the game itself.  Which was the case last season.

Kansas City being in the Big Game is what it is.  It's just vexatious that this is the second consecutive year that we're getting a match-up that just happened.  I'd have been thrilled if it was Washington or Detroit (or even Los Angeles) in this spot.  Even if Kansas City still wins, I'd be okay with it as it's a new opponent.  New England winning over Philadelphia 20 years ago was great for another reason but it was a new foe instead of something else.

Super Bowl XXVIII was meh, and the eventual champion is still just that but Joe Montana against that team would've been a different match-up.

At the end of the day, having the same 2 franchises a couple years removed is boring as hell, one season after a Super Bowl that featured 2 franchises 4 years apart.  The thing that makes things different would be the outcome, specifically Philadelphia winning, or Kansas City blowing the hell out of Philadelphia

I watch none of the pregame nonsense.  I usually try to tune in just as the national anthem is being sung.  It makes me think of the late Dr. Z from Sports Illustrated, who always timed it.  He disliked it when the singer had all the embellishments, extending the time it took to sing it.  I too hate it when a huge production is made of the anthem, especially when they slow it down.  It's supposed to be a song of triumph (our flag was still there!), not a dirge.

I'll probably end up "rooting" for the Eagles (which means the Chiefs will likely win!) since once my team is out, I check out which former Wisconsin Badgers are still in.  Sorry, Leo Chenal, you've got your rings, so I'm rooting for Zach Baun.

One of the recent annoying things are the super long pregame shows & the fact that the networks have to update their scoring graphics every time they have the Super Bowl, starting with that game itself.

I mean, the NFL survived and didn't die without one.  Meanwhile, you can only talk about so much about the game and the players, which was done before today.  Not sure what's different these 8 hours before kickoff.

Well, it's the day, so let's make a prediction.

Late in the game, Eagles protected a small lead in a mostly defensive game. Say 16-14 with two minutes left. KC has the ball from deep in their own territory. Mahomes hits a few passes and quickly gets to midfield. Everyone goes here we go again.

On third down at midfield, Mahomes hits Kelce for a first down up the middle. He runs for more. As he's getting tackled, Kelce turns and fires a perfect backward pass straight to the hands of Juju Smith-Schuster... who just drops it! It goes straight through his hands and an Eagles defensive back scoops it up and streaks towards the game sealing return touchdown! But... Whistle! The refs blow the play dead. They ruled Kelce down by forward progress, and the play cannot be reviewed. Replays show and sentiment is mostly that Kelce should not have been ruled down, but not 100%.

With the new life, Mahomes hits a few more passes, and Butker hits a chip shot FG as time expires. In the postgame interview, Mahomes goes "Well, you gotta enforce the rules." The end.

Someone picked the Eagles to win 31-19.  Yeah right, but they might have to go for the rout, and I'd double the efforts in case the power goes out again.  Not sure Philadelphia will have the momentum Baltimore had over 12 years ago at the half.

I guess picking the Chiefs is why I pretty much dismissed an Eagles 12-point win, but to be fair, even if I had decided to pick Philadelphia over Kansas City, I don't think I'd pick the NFC champs to win by that margin.  This isn't Superbowl 55, 48 or even 51.  The game should be close, regardless of whether it's in the teens, 20s or 30s.

I'd be surprised if it was like SB 42 and that low scoring.  To be honest I don't think I ever saw a world where I'd rank Spags over Dan Quinn in terms of a defensive genius.  Given the outcomes against the GOAT (who will remain just that regardless of a 3-peat), it probably would add up that Spagnuolo would have more success over that Eagles offense than Dan did 2 weeks ago.  Probably not a 30s to 40s game, but maybe at least upper teens 18-19 to lower to mid 20s.  Depends on if the Eagles can control time of possession in a big way

I also tune in right as the national anthem is over.  I don't care about the commercials or the halftime show.   I simply want to watch the final game of the season.

I swear to God if Butker wins the game for KC I will puke.  I can't stand that guy.

And if the rumors are true and Kelce proposes if they win I won't have to see it.  As soon as the game is over or sooner if KC is blowing them out I will be turning it off and going to bed. Some of us have to work in the morning.

I'm not working tomorrow, but there still would not be a reason to continue with the game if it's out of hand.  The Chiefs might overcome 25 points in 17 minutes, but the Eagles are not doing that.

I'd rather see Philadelphia turn it over as the final definitive outcome.  The proposal is what it is, and Travis could change his mind in terms of his future.  Actually I think he definitely will call it quits amidst a proposal on the spot.

Anyway, I agree that I can do without a KC game winning field goal.  Anything win but that.  I'm not going to become a legit evil guy, but for Survivor fans that may or may not know...I often think of Sarah Lacina's quote on "becoming a criminal" in order to win.  As a cop that holds true in that you have to play dirty or just tough to succeed.  Nice guys finish last, and for Lacina, the plan worked out.

It's just a game, but I can't of a more underwhelming scenario than a Chiefs Field Goal to end the game, period

If y'all know me, then you'd know how petty I am.  For instance, I actually considered going to New Orleans to watch the game.  That was a decision I first pondered earlier in the decade.

To get to the point, I think I'd be better off doing something else than having to hear Tom Brady for several hours in the league's biggest game.  Typically you don't have to listen to the network announcers if you're there live.  However, I don't feel like spend $10,000 or whatever to stand for about 5 hours for a football game

For those petty folks who refuse to listen to Brady, there are simpler and cheaper ways than flying out to New Orleans that don't involve sulking in a corner.  All it involves is muting the TV and having another device...

I'm definitely turning to Harlan & Warner for the game.  Something I haven't done in quite awhile since I'm usually at a party or event.  Not the case this year thanks to being under the weather.  Plus I think a lot of people are passing on doing something for the Super Bowl this year.  At least in my area.  Either way, I will be watching.  Even after the teams were set, I had no plans to skip the game.

Outside of Kansas City being the team over Philadelphia in terms of being "championship ready" for the big game, it makes sense to pick them as the champs have the advantage in both head coach & quarterback.  More on that later.

It makes more sense to pick a team that has a championship roster that tops the other team.  The QB is inferior, but it's not night & day.  The head coach is inferior, period.  However, it seems like the guy has passed off duties to his coordinators.  Not sure that's sustainable long term, and based on the Eagles track record of booting people, I'd say it isn't.

Not sure if Philly made any errors 2 years ago to where they'd "learned from their mistakes" but other than not putting the ball on the ground, one thing that might not be in their favor is having yet another coordinator on the way out (Gannon last time).  When New Orleans still had a vacancy, I knew that the Eagles might be in a little trouble since I knew who that person was.  Looks like it's a certainty but will it wreck the NFC Champs against the AFC Champs.

I guess they have to play the game.  The roster for Philadelphia is so extreme that outside of one's legacy and whatever else (especially HC and QB), I don't see a decent reason to bet my life on the Chiefs.  However, the NFL did not cancel the game; therefore I'm going with Kansas City for the win.  I think I should probably bet on a 28-19 final score, but I'm not.  I'll settle for 29-21.  I do hope that officiating isn't the difference maker, but the Chiefs despite not looking like past champions are still good.  Or they played a lot of bad teams, and that would exclude Philadelphia

I just usually watch for the commercials and the half time, but Jon Batiste will no doubt be the best part of the whole show! I don't care who wins either way, but I kinda want the Chiefs to win just to see the whole 3 in a row thing. Oh, and to watch all the whiners I work with crying about how it was fixed tomorrow.

And because this this is where my priorities lie.... what is going on with Patrick's hair? They showed the back of his head in the locker room 15 minutes ago and its was not good! Oh, and what the hell is Tom Brady wearing as a watch? That was gaudy as all hell.

Yeah, I'm definitely watching Jon Batiste.  Then back to mute for the Westwood One broadcast.  I don't know about the commercials this year.  For one, I tend to forget about them in time, but I haven't been watching commercials year-round since I've make YouTube Television my top choice for my TV viewing.  I may or may not watch the halftime show.  Might bail if the score is 21-6 before the half.

To be honest, there is a little bit of sadness if the Chiefs three-peat.  For one, they'll join Dallas & New England as the only team to win 3 in a 4-year period, they'd join the Pats as the only team to do so with the same head coach, and that means Pittsburgh will no longer be the only team with 2 successful title defenses, though they'll still be the only team to do it with a couple teams (Raiders & Cowboys) winning between that solo feat.

It's annoying that they'd have company after 4.5 decades, while we still haven't had a second champion get there without a loss after 52 years.

That being said, it'll be interesting if it gets done.  Despite the painful failed attempt in 1990, this is the closest we've had to 3 in a row.  Honorable mention to a mid 90s coaching change that ruined that chance coupled with the Philly special among other things.

I pretty much echo other fans of the Black & Gold in terms of what Kansas City might accomplish, as we've been in this spot before with the 49ers and Cowboys looking down.  Pittsburgh has their own problems and needs to worry about those issues.

Short of a bad call or no call, a Chiefs win isn't something that'll result in lost sleep.  Though similar to 20 years ago, it helps that the opponent is Philadelphia.  It's just odd that Kansas City has won a ton of close games.  Usually teams in their position blow out their foes, but this season Chiefs haven't really done that
