And now I feel like I need to watch Cedar Cove.

Oh, just read Julie' recap. You know the one -- it just has "Cedar Cove" over and over again (but didn't affect her page views).

I was in hysterics 5 mins into the latest ep. I expected good things when it opened on Kevin Spacey jokes, but when Billy took it to a full-on HoC' impression, I had to rewatch it several times because I kept screaming like Julie (who was screaming like Lucille Bluth whenever she sees Gene Parmesan)! And they immediately went to Matthew getting slapped down hard by Lola (does she have the best lines or what?) who was killing as usual. That entire scene was so tight, someone is really on the ball these past 2 eps writing the multi-character scenes instead of just having Julie and Billy talking against the background of them. And Lola, who's maybe replaced Denise?, makes more sense in the cast. Loved the shout outs to Merv Griffin, teletubbies, Rumsfeld, and Brit Brit's "You'd better weeerrrkkkk!" punctuated by Matthew falling to the floor: me likey.

The party was great too with the Tony Bennett/Gaga rant, Matthew at the salon, and a Victoria Jackson burn - nice! I'm glad Arthur got a decent amount of screen time this ep and his scenes at the bachelorette party and with creeper writer were really funny.

Much better use of Amy Sedaris this time around too. Not sure how to feel about Julianne Moore... she's been one of the better cameos, but the second scene was possibly overkill. It's tough to work in those really famous types without losing the thread of what's going on in the show. I'd love to know hear more about how Billy feels about Kevin Spacey actually!

I didn't get many of the Spacey jokes, but they were still funny. Good casting for Harvey too.

I wouldn't really care if my gf slutted around 15 years ago (which 9 + 11 is HILARIOUS), but Arthur should get at least a couple of hours to deal with it.

The old guy was right about Billy though. Him and Julie tend to whine a lot.

The dialogue was cracking in this one.

I got patted down by the TSA so hard I almost squirted. That wins the show.

I think the Spacey jokes are an aside to the fact that he is very private about his personal life, but there are rampant rumors he is gay.

Julie's hair in season 2 really bugs me. I rewatched season 1, and I like her better without the big, choppy hair.

Andrea Martin is, and always has been, amazing. I love watching her.

Omg, these people live down the street from me, no joke. I walk by their house all the time, but didn't realize it was them. It was front page news here when they were denied access to Butchart Gardens! I didn't read the article because I just thought it was hilarious that it was the paper that week. I didn't realize they had a whole full-time Victorian thing going on because, honestly, this town is full of pretension and generally foolery, and there are days where "everyone" goes out in Victorian garb. I used to work at a consignment shop downtown that would have all sorts of things specific to the day of Victorian dress (I'm sure it has a name...), though I worked there before hipsters and steampunk, which are huge here too. Basically the entire town is full of "special" artists and humans. If anyone is familiar with art school, or just the concept, picture no one graduating and then you have a whole town overrun with precious people, who actually make this Old Timey couple pale in comparison. At least they're putting in some work with their experiment, which is more than I gave them credit for! I shop at the same store they do primarily and I don't remember seeing much of them (the store is pretty small, so it would be pretty much impossible to miss them), but then again, if I see someone fully dressed in costume, I just assume it's parade time again (we have so, so many, but the Pet Parade is the only one I get into) or any person living here, sigh... well, now I have some more insight into why I love this show so much, sort of like how I have to mainline Seinfeld occasionally, and other shows to buff up my Eastern roots and because sarcasm is a largely failed and misunderstood concept here.

Now I really want Julie and Billy to come visit. First of all, no one would know who they are - it was a TV-free zone for ages before Hulu or cord-cutting existed, and I'm possibly the only DP watcher in the tri-town area - and it would be seasons' worth of ideas! They could just transport the concepts to the NY background, or they could do an actual reality show of spending a few weeks here, like an insane, brain-breaking version of Frontier House where all they do is react and comment on simply staying, eating and shopping. I literally need to see Julie and Billy react to our food coop now, it would be the most amazing thing that could be/happen to me/happen here!

At this point I think I'm only watching for glimpses of Arthur.

Same.

Wow so I watched the first three eps on Hulu last night and it's really bad now. Had to wait ten minutes to get one meh level gag. It's over I guess. Why isn't it funny anymore? It's just not. I'm so disappointed, was really looking forward to this season.

I thought that Julie, Billy and Gabourey all looked great, and that the women wore some very flattering outfits. Julie looked great in blue, and Gabourey in prints. ( Andrea Martin must be incredibly thin in real life.)

Julie has it much better than she realizes; she has her soul mate in Billy, and Arthur unselfishly supplies her with everything else she needs, except for health insurance.  If they are domestic partners, wouldn't she be entitled to be on any PBS insurance plan that Arthur has? Honestly, if they have to be married for her to receive coverage, she should just marry him.  She's never going to find anyone more devoted to her or more compatible in bed.  And she doesn't seem to be looking for someone better, anyway.  Has she ever commented on a guy being attractive in a way that would indicate she has any interest in anyone else?  And, they both love the dogs!

Yeah they really should have addressed that, it's sloppy writing in my opinion. You just reminded me that I also couldn't deal with/buy the way Julie tries to please her mom. It just ended up bumming me out but didn't really make sense, it didn't line up with how I think her character has been developed.

I really don't know what the bond between her and Arthur is she totally treats him like crap.

I want more Arthur and I love Billy's brother.

We found out in a previous season: she is his exact (pornographic) fantasy, made flesh. He has achieved what he never thought possible.  For some men, that is enough.

Oh yeah, I remember that now. So she likes that about him and that he takes care of her, I guess. Poor Arthur.

I didn't think the show is bad. I'm on episode one. It seems the same to me. I never thought it was screamingly hilarious either though.

I got a kick out of the "nathan lane memorial highway".

Having them do community service does open up some storylines.

Nice to see Larry Wilmore again, and I love the Bill Mahar show bible joke.

I also think it's funny and the same as previous seasons. I love the Pence joke and the straight bucks that can only be used at Tommy Bahama.

Also, the whole exchange about the parents dying "like on Tuesday and you are milking this like it's coming out of a tit" made me laugh. As did all of the Woody Allen jokes and references to "boob stuff"

The improv on the street was cracking me up. It was so over the top tourist garbage that I could totally see that being a thing. They're also going really hard on Trump/Pence, which I am all for. I found the mother having her own plot without Julie to be something different, but I really only like when the plot revolves around Julie and Billy. Having the dogs dressed up as the Blues Brothers was funny, but I don't buy for a second that they went missing and Julie isn't totally freaking out about it.

I'm glad Arthur finally stood up for himself. I knew Chore Rabbit was going to spin out of control, but I didn't see it going there.

Matthew was annoying though. If that's all he was going to do, then just leave him out of the episode.

I know I don't have the exact line right but the "Reverse coco from Fame where you take your clothes off until the photographer cries" was magic and I love it.

It was (also paraphrased) "Reverse Coco from Fame where you put your clothes ON piece by piece" ie, saying that naked Billy is unappealing.  lol  I agree, it was funny though.

I am finding Julie's mom super annoying now.  She always was, and that's the point, but I don't like her complete incompetence in her sessions because she would not even have any patience to be living so comfortably.  I like her horrible, just towards Julie.

This latest one was the funniest yet for me. I liked how Julie was getting so mad for being told to smile, and then spent the back half of the episode being the punchline. I don't get where they got the Wolf Blitzer joke from, but it killed me when Billy did the callback for it in front of the kids.

Even Matthew's audition video was hilarious.

Billy crashing the kids' scenes were great because of the randomness of the lines. "Why couldn't there be no women aaaaallll the tiiiimeee!"

Greeklings! I can't believe I didn't see that coming.

ok what is up with Arthur's sexuality etc?? is he gay? like into having sex with guys? or just playing the role of the traditional housewife? and why is there a post-it note on the fridge to remind julie to ask about his day? he seemed kinda short w her in this episode

Link to comment

That's all really been addressed quite clearly on the show. Arthur is not gay. Last season they did a whole episode on porn fantasies and Arthur's porn was all voluptuous Jewish redheads. In episode 2 or 3, when Julie hired the chore rabbits, Arthur came back from the hotel and said how he miserable because he couldn't take care of Julie. He was helping the staff make the beds.

The note on the fridge was imo a callback to that episode because Arthur initially left for the hotel because he felt underappreciated and Julie never listened to him. It's a good joke.

I didn't know the book plot was going to be continuing. I'm interested to see how it turns out. Also I like the call back to Billy's new bf.

I could have done without Matthew again. He didn't add anything for me in this episode. I wanted more Blythe and Bernie. That was hilarious.

The last callback to Karen from the ESPN guys killed me too.

I don't know if the show is making subtle commentary, but it seems like because Arthur is the submissive partner in the relationship, and likes to cook and clean, and not a "bro", people think he's gay. It's clear from the last episode that they are both totally hot for one another, and they talk about sex regularly. One of the episodes in this season was Arthur determined to get Julie off.

I don't remember who she said it about (possibly Billy), but Julie did say in one of the recent episodes that Arthur was gayer than an actual gay character, so she is aware of how his mannerisms may be misinterpreted.  Do you remember the quote?

I didn't realize how tiny Billy's apartment is. I'm not surprised though.

I'm not a Matthew fan, but walking into scene in drag saying "Bush did 9 11" killed me.

For some reason, the passing around of the tea crack me up. It was just so ridiculous. Sigma Delta Burka. It took me halfway in to get that.

Billy was reading the paper on the subway with the headline "Rachel Dolenez: I'm Chinese Now!"

Was Marilyn's trip supposed to be like Being John Malchovich?

Julie's duet was fantastic.

It's a good point though. When is enough enough? How long does Julie go on auditions to be in auto insurance commercials?

Not sure why this is the thing that bothered me, but nobody sleeps for 3 days without being drugged or in a coma, and Julie would have been freaking if she hadn't heard from Billy in 3 hours, much less days.

This is definitely not a binge show for me since a little neuroses goes a long way. I enjoyed the episodes but probably shouldn't have watched both at once.

“I think it’s sexy that you dress like someone who can still get the measles."

hahah i always wondered about this too!!! i wondered if it was coke or something bc in the season 1 finale difficult christmas they mentioned him buying molly... like he would have had to been on a bender.. i agree

Since Julie was able to be successful as a writer, I'd like to see if she can actually continue that. Or if there's some fallout with the mother where Julie cops to writing it.

I also like the gag how Julie was holding the 'online PBS newsletter' in her hand as a real newsletter.
