Just let health, education, transport, all the things that are your responsibility fail while you cavort all over the world pretending you're a TV star, oh yeah, and raise lots of money from rich Americans with 'Scottish' roots who don't actually give a crap that you're letting the country go to the wall. attica June 6, 2015 Share June 6, 2015 I watched the UK debate (the one that Cameron and Clegg skipped), and I was quite delighted with Sturgeon. She's hardcore lefty. I certainly think there's a benefit to wider US exposure for European lefty ideas, if only to lessen the effectiveness of Socialism=Lucifer Incarnate talking points. 3 Link to comment
Victor the Crab June 9, 2015 Share June 9, 2015 That racist piece of shit doesn't deserve to be a cop! What asshole throws an unarmed fourteen year old girl to the ground? Real macho of you, pig! BTW, the story goes that the whole thing started when two white adult women started yelling at the teens telling them to "go back to the projects!" Then a fight ensures and the police along with Captain Asshole show up. Oh, and those two white women? The police didn't do a thing to them. Well that makes sense. Riding Hogs, eating hogs, because they are hogs. Your GOP candidates in their swill. Except for Rubio, he's a special case of one. Not impressed with Nicola Sturgeon and her pandering to Jon. She comes across as being full of it. Have fun trying to get what you want for Scotland while trying to deal with David Cameron who, thanks to your party, managed to get re-elected Prime Minister of the U.K. along with his right wing Tory crew. 3 Link to comment
Sharpie66 June 9, 2015 Share June 9, 2015 Loved Jessica last night! At first, I couldn't figure out what she was wearing under her bikini, but damn, the full-body armor was both scary and appropriate. 1 Link to comment

She's a nationalist, the lefty part is all talk. Ask our NHS and education system. Sturgeon was an embarrassment, but Jon wasn't any better, he nearly asked her a difficult question but decided to ask about haggis instead. Link to comment

I imagine it would be more difficult to get things done had no one from the SNP been elected. Also, it's my understanding that even if all the SNP seats had actually gone to Labour there still would have been a sufficient Tory majority, so it seems the English are to blame for that one. Sharpie66 June 9, 2015 Share June 9, 2015 Scotland is gorgeous! I was there in 2012, and even though it rained both days in Edinburgh, we had slightly better weather in the two days we were in the Highlands and much better weather our three days in Orkney. I definitely want to go back and spend a full two weeks going all over the country, including spending more than an hour going through Glencoe (which was stunningly beautiful). Orkney needs more time, too--in the three days we were there, we didn't get off the main island and didn't even see all of that! I especially want to go there when the Ness of Brodgar dig is underway in the summer; last time, we were flying out the first day they were open for the 2012 dig season, so we couldn't go there. UnderCover June 9, 2015 Share June 9, 2015 Has anyone heard about whether Jessica Williams is staying on after Jon leaves? She is so marvelous. I read today that Lewis Black will be staying around, but he doesn't shoiw up very often. Two more months... I cherish the moment when I head to my DVR to watch the previous night's show. I can't believe this is ending. 1 Link to comment

Victor the Crab June 10, 2015 Share June 10, 2015 HA! Whatta coincidence. I'm from Glencoe! (not the Scotland part...) Good thing Jon didn't try and name the rest of the countries in the G7. He'd have been snarky if he had gotten to Canada, and Stephen Harper (well deserved, IMO). And congrats American media for letting the public know what's really important out there. Actually Jon, we'd like to hear from your older brother Larry, the successful stock market executive, about how he made your life miserable in middle class New Jersey. Actually, it would have been funnier if he really did show up to spill the beans. Nick Offerman is great. But he should never lose the mustache. 3 Link to comment
ganesh June 10, 2015 Share June 10, 2015 So, 7 of the most powerful economies get together for a big meeting about how Europe is a mess and all the press talks about is where they sat at lunch. It's hard to be an informed polity when the media is still in high school. 7 Link to comment

solotrek June 10, 2015 Share June 10, 2015 (edited) Jessica left out Blaise Zabini from her list of black Harry Potter characters. That's what I take away from this show, apparently. As soon as she said 4 black characters in HP I immediately told my husband that she'd probably leave off Blaise. But he's a Slytherin who used terms like "blood traitor" so screw him. (just finished my annual reread/listen of the series). Anyways, we had pretty similar takeaways from that segment. Actually scratch that, my takeaway was that Jessica is great. And that cop who did his somersault on the ground seemed to be auditioning for a cop show rather than doing his job. Edited June 10, 2015 by solotrek Link to comment

brgjoe June 11, 2015 Share June 11, 2015 Ordinarily I'd have some sympathy over some of the silly stuff the NY Times would want to report about him and his family. But then I remember all the crap he and his party have thrown around (as well as the willing media) on stuff like Hilary's email, the IRS scandal (that wasn't a scandal), Benghazi (which they are STILL harping about to this day), and of course the Clinton Foundation (which last time I checked, did disclose their donor list, as opposed to many a Super PAC). Yes, I think that NY Times is delving into things that are pretty inconsequential. There are many items that I think are more important to focus in on than how large someone's windows are in one's house. I get it. But that's pretty minor considering all the other crapola that has been reported on as "news" lately. 2 Link to comment
The Luvly Junkie June 11, 2015 Share June 11, 2015 As of today, I am certain the current roster of correspondents will stay on the show, mostly because of the amount of experience they have on the show, Jessica especially. But now I have to yield for Al, who appears on rare occasions as much as Lewis Black. I know the water gimmick is more of a water show-off to Californians, but I wonder if the East Coast's sufficient water supplication will be enough to keep Al on the show a little longer. That being said, Al had a little too much fun with his water fetishes. :P 1 Link to comment
Victor the Crab June 11, 2015 Share June 11, 2015 Might this be something Jon talks about tonight? Rupert Murdoch steps down as CEO of 21st Century Fox. Link to comment
ganesh June 11, 2015 Share June 11, 2015 Reporting on 4 speeding tickets though. On the front page. That's a little much. I think the point was that the NYT has this historical cache and to run something so trivial on the front page results in all those silly video pieces he showed subsequently. I mean, there's legit complaints about low-informed voters, but if the information pipeline has this garbage all the time, it's no wonder that these candidates don't really have to formulate any substantive policies. Hey, vote for me, I don't have any tickets! So I think he's pointing out that the NYT should know better and perhaps has the responsibility to drive the narrative differently. 1 Link to comment
iMonrey June 11, 2015 Share June 11, 2015 The traffic tickets are trivial but I think their bad spending habits are relevant. This guy thinks he can run the national economy and he can't even keep his own finances in order. I read the full article and this guy racked up a huge personal debt and mismanaged money for years. He's running as a conservative who's supposed to advocate responsible spending and his personal history in this area is the opposite of that. If he's throwing away money on mansions and yachts and vehicles he can't afford then turning around and pretending to be "one of us regular working Joes" that's hypocrisy. 7 Link to comment
The Luvly Junkie June 12, 2015 Share June 12, 2015 Shame Jonny-bun didn't talk about Murdoch's resignation, but at least he made up for it with his takedown of Rumsfeld. Even though he will retire, I feel like Jonny-bun is giving us hope that one day the viewers, or anyone in the future, will continue to point out the mistakes of Rumsfeld and everyone involved in the Iraq war. It's like he's "passing the torch" of rationalization to his listeners. Link to comment
ganesh June 12, 2015 Share June 12, 2015 Sure, personal spending is fair game. I think tax records should be readily available for every year they're an elected official at the least. That speaks to the piece though. The NYT was putting out a sensational piece, rather than reporting on spending habits and possible conflicts of interest in taking giant houses or paying off someone's loans. Link to comment
Victor the Crab June 12, 2015 Share June 12, 2015 Yes, it would be nice if people like Donald Rumsfeld learned from their past mistakes Problem is, when you have sociopaths like him, Cheney, Bush, and the rest of those motherfuckers calling the shots, a media that won't question their decisions, and a general public with the attention span of a retriever finding a squirrel, the same mistakes will be made again. Which is why you can never let the GOP win the White House in 2016, or they'll do the same thing with Iran and the rest of the Middle East. Personally, I'd go with Superman winning over the Hulk. If the two of them kept fighting, they'd get nowhere because they be in a continuous draw. All Superman has to do is let the Hulk beat him up until the rage is out of him and he reverts back to Bruce Banner. 3 Link to comment
attica June 12, 2015 Share June 12, 2015 Ruffalo's pissy contempt in the line, "well, if the high jump is the criterion..." made me smile. Be careful, Jon! You won't like him when he's angry! I would very much like Hulk to SMASH Rummy's face. 2 Link to comment

iMonrey June 12, 2015 Share June 12, 2015 I'm loving the clip tributes and Jon allowing himself to be poked fun of for never really reading the books or seeing the movies of those he interviews. To be fair it would be virtually impossible for him to do so. He'd have to devour huge volumes overnight depending on how much advance warning he gets and a lot of the movies being promoted haven't even come out yet. I know sometimes a studio will send an advance copy on DVD for an interviewer but some won't and it's time-consuming anyway. Then again, it's evident he does do the reading or viewing when he really cares so it's probably more a level of interest than time management. Link to comment
Sharpie66 June 15, 2015 Share June 15, 2015 It looks like Jon's name is going to evolve over the course of the video tributes--this time, it was "Joe Stewart." Link to comment
