betsyboo August 14, 2015 Share August 14, 2015 Via TVLine: Chicago Fire Boss Talks More Spinoffs, Four-Way (!) Crossover With SVU By Vlada Gelman / August 13 2015, 12:30 PM PDT Just how many shows can NBC’s Chicago franchise spawn? The answer to that question depends on the success of the latest entry to the group, Chicago Med, premiering Nov. 17 at 9/8c. “There would never be a fourth unless [Chicago Med] works,” executive producer Dick Wolf said Thursday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “If this works, who knows what is possible in the future.” At the moment, however, “the concern of everybody now is to make this show have the same impact that Fire and P.D. have had,” Wolf added. Crossovers between the uber producer’s many NBC dramas are already in the works, including a four-way event with Law & Order: SVU slated to air in February and a crossover between the three Chicago shows. “The crossovers are incredible ratings engines for us,” Wolf said. “What we can’t do is have them become commonplace. [There are] three this season, but they won’t include all the shows.” Added EP Matt Olmstead: “They’re very daunting. Like most creative endeavors, the daunting ones turn out to be the most gratifying.” Link to comment

AveMaria30 August 23, 2016 Share August 23, 2016 Spoiler Chicago Med (NBC) Premieres: Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9/8c Where We Left Off: Rhodes lost his mentor, Dr. Downey, who succumbed to cancer. April's boyfriend proposed, but a medical exam also revealed that she has TB. Goodwin's husband left her, and Manning realized she's finally ready to move on from her late husband. Will got an offer to be a full-time attending at Chicago Med, while Reese declined her pathology offer after graduating, meaning she's unemployed. What's Next: Ato Essandoh is joining the cast as Rhodes' new mentor Dr. Latham, a "challenging personality" who leaves Rhodes "wondering if he made the right career choice, if he can even tolerate two years of a fellowship under this new boss," executive producers Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov tell TVGuide.com. Rhodes will also have a new romantic relationship with someone who has an unexpected connection to the hospital. The "will-they-or-won't-they" dynamic will continue between Halstead and Manning, as she strikes up a relationship with Jeff Clarke, her old friend (and Chicago Fire alum) who is joining the hospital as a medical student, and he pairs off with pathologist Nina Shore. April's relationship also hits a speed bump in the form of the "emotional impact" of her TB diagnosis, according to Schneider and Frolov, but Goodwin quickly finds herself single and ready to mingle. Reese returns to the hospital in a surprising new residency, and Choi has been promoted to chief resident. His approach to the job will put him at odds with Maggie. http://www.tvguide.com/special/fall-preview/gallery/2016-returning-fall-shows/photo/2b0103cb-16ff-47a0-bf11-ac37494d39ed Link to comment

Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) navigates life as the new chief resident and finds the road a bit rocky, while Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) approaches Sarah (Rachel DiPillo) with an interesting opportunity that catches her off-guard. Elsewhere, April (Yaya DaCosta) works to come to terms with her recently discovered illness and Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) deals with a complicated case involving a pregnant woman who was a victim in a high speed collision. Meanwhile, Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) takes exception to the actions of fourth-year medical student Jeff Clarke (guest star Jeff Hephner), whose past history with Dr. Manning may be a factor. AveMaria30 September 4, 2016 Share September 4, 2016 Spoiler Dr. Will Halstead may have some competition for Natalie’s heart this fall on Chicago Med, but that doesn’t mean he won’t find romance of his own. EW can exclusively reveal that early in the second season, things will heat up between Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and pathologist Nina Shore (Patti Murin), who was introduced last season. “I’m really excited for fans to see how season 2 begins,” Gehlfuss tells EW. “Things get intimate between my character, Dr. Halstead, and pathologist Nina Shore. Fun fact: Patti Murin, who plays Nina, also happens to be Colin Donnell’s real-life wife. I just hope he’s not on set when our characters find themselves in a romantic embrace!” Despite this new romance, “[Will’s] feelings for Natalie [Torrey DeVitto] will never go away,” EP Andrew Schneider says. http://www.ew.com/article/2016/09/02/chicago-med-halstead-love-interest Link to comment
statsgirl December 24, 2016 Share December 24, 2016 I thought this article was interesting: How Chicago Med Will Tackle Dr. Latham's Fascinating Backstory Quote Essandoh says he met with African-American Rabbi Capers Funnye, who has also offered religious counsel to President Obama, to research the role. "He gave me a brief primer on Judaism and black people in the Jewish religion, and it was fascinating. By the time I [finished] talking to him, I was completely sold on the character, on the realism of the character," Essandoh says. "Just the little bit that I've learned about Judaism, I didn't realize how, dare I say, intense that religion is, as far as all of the things that you have to know and remember, and the ritualism of it. That's what I think really drew me to the character, because there are parallels between the ritualism of Orthodox Judaism and the repetitive ritualism of somebody who's a surgeon. I think both of them sort of match, and I think that's what even teases out more of Dr. Latham's intensity." [snip] "Not that I didn't trust Dick Wolf and Andy and Diane, of course, but you don't want to be the gag character, that people go, 'What is that? This is ridiculous,'" Essandoh says. "The Judaism isn't just a, oh, we're just going to make him Jewish. They're actually going to go into the particulars of his religion as well, which I found extremely fascinating. He can't operate anything that's electric or that has fire. ... He can't operate an elevator until somebody does it for him." And Chicago Med will also explore the thorny question of whether Dr. Latham's autism may actually make him a better surgeon, even as it hinders him from connecting with his colleagues. "Because of the spectrum aspect and because he's so logical, he looks at the human as a machine. So, 'What do I have to fix? What valve do I have to push? What do I have to change out to make this heart OK?'" Essandoh explains. "That works when you're in surgery, but I think it doesn't work when you're dealing with the actual human being. ... Why he's a great surgeon is because he can sort of divorce himself from the human emotions that everybody else has." I like Latham as a character, and I really like Essandoh as an actor. Latham is different from the ordinary run of TV characters and I like that it's in the direction of being more realistic.. 2 Link to comment

I seriously love the idea of a Hawaii Med with all the 'cast offs' living happily ever after and away from this crap. According to some scuttlebutt while CPD and CF were pretty sure bets, there were rumors that between Med and Justice only one may make it back due to NBC not wanting to be so reliant on #ONECHICAGO and feeling the franchise may be overextended with four properties. None of the older series are in syndication so the studio isn't making back their money yet. CJ is still not renewed yet but I hope for Phillip Winchester's sake it is. Lady Calypso May 14, 2017 Share May 14, 2017 So, NBC schedule is out and not only will Chicago Med start midseason on Thursdays, but it has moved up a slot to 10pm. This is to make way for the new Law and Order series, as well as This Is Us, which has been moved to the Chicago Med slot. So that means CM will be decreasing its episode order, possibly following the season 1 episode count. Also, the Chicago Trio (not a Quartet for next season....yet) are all at 10 on consecutive days. starri May 14, 2017 Share May 14, 2017 I wouldn't mind a shorter season if it meant the episodes were better. But that also makes me think of a more soap opera format. Which, fine, I like soaps. But Med doesn't do those elements particularly well. Link to comment
DearEvette May 14, 2017 Share May 14, 2017 I do think with This is Us as a lead in and if TIU continues to perform as well on Thursdays as it did on Tuesdays, then my thought is that in order to keep the TIU audience they would want to soap it up a bit more. This also makes sense with a 13 episode order. A procedural can handle 22 eps a season. But more and more I think serialized shows or shows with more soapy elements can't really go beyond 13 a year without spinning their wheels or feeling tired. But, yeah, this is not the Chicago Med writers' wheelhouse. So I am wondering if they'll address that this year? Link to comment

I think that, because of the TIS lead-in and how popular that show is, it could force the writers and the showrunners to step up their game. Now they're going to see a surge in their ratings for at least the first couple of weeks, so we'll see if they actually step up their game. The show is probably starting to map out the season right now, so I do think they'll have to take in the factor of TIS airing right before them. I'm just debating whether the lead in will help them by adding a competitive factor to make their show better, or if it'll ultimately fail and make the show look even worse with the TIS lead in. 1 Link to comment
