Wow. I'm not sure we can 100% say it's nepotism given Danneel is an actress and was on One Tree Hill on the CW for a while but I'm sure being Jensen's wife doesn't hurt.

I'm surprised it's for an extended arc. I figured if she ever got on the show it would be a 1 shot deal. So this is interesting from a family logistics standpoint. Like are they going to move the family up to Vancouver? Does this portend some time off for Dean so Jensen can be at home with the kids?

Sorry to any Danneel fans but I've never been impressed with her acting so we'll see.

Fandom is gonna have a fit in both directions on this one.

Sorry, but no one will convince me that this wasn’t some form of nepotism.

Good for Misha! But I’m not happy either way. I hate nepotism in general and I don’t rate her as an actress. She was bleh in the little I’ve seen of her. I’m sure she’s a lovely woman, but since I don’t know her personally I don’t particualrly care about that when it comes to casting.

Don't care if it was or not. She deserves a job as much as any other actor or actress. I've heard the question asked time and again at cons, so there has certainly been interest in her appearing. I think it's awesome.

And I’m just saying she doesn’t deserve the job more than a more talented actress (if they even bothered holding open auditions in the first place) just because she happens to be married to a lead. Agree to disagree.

Or something they knew back in 2012 would happen in 5 years if the show ran that long.

Hmmm

It's weird that her character's name is Sister Jo.

And nepotism plays a part in every business, entertainment probably more than most. At least she is an established actress - not like they pulled her out from behind a desk and put her on camera.

Supports my nepotism theory imo. Her and Jensen probably always joked that she’d go on the show if it made it to s13 and now it has they made it happen.

LOL have you seen some of the actors/actresses that have had recurring roles on this show? Danneel has as much or more talent than any of them. Being Jensen's wife also shouldn't preclude her from a role. Reverse nepotism sucks, too. :)

She's a solid enough actress and nothing wrong with a wife being in the show.  Good for her and Jensen!  I do hope some of the extreme nuts in this fandom layoff her(Not referring to you!)

I’m not sure what you’re referring to, but if you’re referring to J2 tinhatters who hate on the wives I can assure you I’m not one of those. I don’t ship Wincest or J2. Not saying you’re accusing me of that, but I just wanted that to be 100% clear.

We don't know that she didn't audition.  We don't know anything about how this happened. Maybe the writers wrote a part specifically for Danneel that had nothing to do with Jensen's approval. He has always said at least publicly that if Danneel was ever on the show it's totally up to her and the producers. I could see it being 100% based on nepotism if she had never acted a day in her life but she is a veteran actor with a CW pedigree.

I'm honestly shocked that people would take issue with this. She's an actress for Chuck's sake. Why shouldn't she be on the show? And whether she auditioned or not isn't really an issue - lots of roles are cast without auditions when the actor is a known quantity.

I find that highly unlikely and the fact she said that she’d be in s13 back in 2012 further supports it IMO. I’m not saying she was super serious back then (they couldn’t have known the show would last this long for a start), but at the very least it was probably something they joked about and then made happen.

Anyway, how often do fans refer to Eugenie Lemming being there as a result of nepotism? If they can complain about that then I’m entitled to dislike that Danneel has most likely been cast based on it.

I guess I'm not looking forward to all the wank that Jensen will now get because somehow he got his wife a job over every other capable actress just because she is his wife which we don't know to be the case at all.

I mean I don't think she's awful just not that great. But maybe she'll be great in this role. It would be funny if she and Jensen never share any scenes.

Maybe this is something the show has wanted to do for a while but she never would do it. Who knows.

Well that's because Buck Lemming suck as writers IMO. I wouldn't complain about their continued existence if they were decent writers who didn't fuck up canon. And there is also a big difference between being married to the EP and being married to the lead actor. No matter what J2 are not producers. They don't run the show. They don't write the show. And it's not like Jensen cast his wife. He only casts actors in episodes he directs which is why he cast is father (an actor himself) and gave his sister an extra scene.

I believe him when he says whatever she is doing WRT to the show is her choice. Did they all talk about it? OBVIOUSLY. But you make it seem like Jensen went to Dabb and Singer and said "Hire my wife. Give her a part no matter what. Don't audition anyone else."

But maybe he went to them and DEMANDED they write a specific part for her and only her. Maybe he negotiated those terms in his contract. Hire my wife for a few episodes or I don't re-sign in S13.  (I'm not actually serious about that LOL).

And as I said In addition to my general dislike of nepotism I don’t consider her to be a good actress. So that’s another reason for me to dislike the casting. Personally, I think it’s naive to think she isn’t there as a result of Jensen having some sort of word with the producers even something as simple as “Id love it if you could find Danneel something”. But agree to disagree. I’m going to make this my last post on the topic.

I take issue with this because it's a BuckLeming episode. She'll be misused, they'll make it VERY clear this is something special, and I'm expecting a bunch of sex or rapey jokes.

It's so like them to pull a stunt like this. I like Danneel and she deserves better than to be put in BuckLeming's show inside SPN.

I’m half expecting her to begin the arc as a nun and end it “sexually liberated” as a result of having sex with Dean aka a more extended version of the crappy Dean and the porn star episode.

Danneel is at least as good an actor as 95% of the people who've been cast on this show, past or present. Personally, I think she has balls of titanium to do it, knowing the crap she's going to get for it, not to mention the outright hate from some factions.

Ratings tend to fall off in the middle in the middle of the season and this sounds like a WayWard Sisters ep.   So it could be more stunt casting in the hopes it will keep the ratings up rather than nepotism.

From the sounds of the Variety article, every character whose appeared on screen this season is going to be in this ep.  If it is a mess it won't be because of Danneel it will be because it sounds like it will be too big for Buck/Lemming to handle.

I really hope they don't make her a love interest to Dean. I think that would make it a gimmick. Maybe it will turn out that she is the villain. Maybe Sister Jo is a faith healer who worships Lucifer or something kind of a spin on Casey from s3.

It would be straight up nepotism if she was unqualified for the job and got it because Jensen said so. Of course her relationship to Jensen is a factor, but she's an actress with many credits to her name, and history on the CW, playing a character that was decidedly *not* a nun, lol. I'd call it more stunt casting than nepotism.

On the bright side, according to the Supernatural wiki, this is the first episode where all the main actors are in the same episode (well, all the main actors whose characters are alive).

I think Danneel is a fine actress but the thing I worry about is her storyline. It sounds like it'll be closely tied with Lucifer, which doesn't particularly excite me. It's not like she's some horrible actress that shouldn't have gotten the recurring role but only did because of nepotism. I'm sure being married to Jensen gave her an advantage to getting a recurring role, but she's a decent actress anyway and her primary role doesn't sound like it'll be around Dean, but Lucifer. They could have simply made her Dean's love interest.

Plus, I watch Legends of Tomorrow and Courtney Ford is a recurring character there this season, and she's also married to one of the leads. Her role seems to also be very successful.

I'm sure it'll be just fine. Danneel has been an actress before she was married and has had somewhat of a steady acting career (besides the last three'ish years) and it all depends how this Sister Jo is used.

Since it is a Buck-Lemming episode, I do worry how she'll be introduced. How in the world is Lucifer going to corrupt her (as I'm positive he will end up doing)?

Technically, I want Cas with any male other than Dean and Sam and especially Lucifer (who has murdered him twice ).

Although a woman of faith making an exception for the sexy angel of the lord could make a weird kind of sense :p

But in all seriousness I don’t want her on the show full stop.

I have to say I'm very surprised by this news, especially with one year old twins.  They must be a handful.  But I'm sure she has babysitting well in order.  I doubt it's a big role.   It'll be interesting to see her in scenes with hubby.

Supernatural did scenes earlier this week in Steveston for episode 131 . The day started with Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester & returning recurring star Ruth Connell as Rowena doing a scene where they talked inside the Impala. The scene seemed to be quite long. It took several minutes to do each take.

After they shot that scene, Jensen Ackles arrived to do scenes as Dean Winchester, along with the pair. He joined them in the car for a scene with them.

After shooting that scene, they moved outside the car. Dean started out in the middle of the street while Sam is chasing after Rowena before she turns around and casts a spell on the brothers freezing them in place. Sam and Dean yell at Rowena to let them go, each them trying to push through, before they both fall over.

A little later the crew moved on to a different location. I didnt stay around to watch that shoot.

I always feel sorry for them in winter--even with their 47 layers, none of them look particularly warm.  It seems heartless to see the boys bundled up in heavy coats between takes and then shooting in light jackets while the crew are wearing parkas and wooly caps (not to mention umbrellas!)

1. Love the ‘the boys are on a hunting trip and haven’t been home in a few days’ homage.

2. I think Daneel is perfect for the role of an ambiguous character. She can do both Sweet and evil on the turn of a dime (IMO).  Sounds like a good match from the Sister Jo description.  I don’t give a shit about nepotism unless she does a bad job and they keep her on the show despite performance.  IMO that’s the case with Buck-Lemming BUT I think Dabb has done a great job of pulling good stores out of them.

3. Ah Rowena!  I so love her sassy lines.  I’m really looking forward to her coming back.  I’ll pay real money if we get a few more Rowena/Sam sight gags. I need to hear her say ‘Giant’ or ‘Big and Tall’ or something else clever in her accent.
