Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

How is everyone? I’m rewatching the Laci special on Netflix. 20+ years later and it’s still horrible what happened to her and her unborn baby.

I saw that. Boggles the mind.  What a sweet soul she was.

We are almost clear of the storms from Helene. Major  damage here in NC.  🙏🧸🫶🏻

I ordered for my mom. She is frantic to have them, though she is not getting the booster because her doctor told her she didn't believe in vaccines. WTH?

My mom and I had a heated discussion and she ended with covid isn't real anyway. She got miffed when I asked why she needed the tests then.

ETA - my mom got all covid vaccines until last fall and her pastor and several friends die from covid at the beginning of the pandemic. A dr deterring an 85 yr old with health issues from getting a vaccine is frustrating.

My husband and I are watching the new show called The Summit, on CBS (and Paramount +)
I think some of you might like it. I know I needed a new reality show.
It's like Survivor on steroids, and The Amazing Race x100 😂
(And the scenery in New Zealand is spectacular)

"Sixteen strangers embark on a 14-day trek through the perilous New Zealand Alps to reach a distant peak. Each holds part of a $1 million prize, but only those who survive the harsh terrain, Antarctic winds, and intense challenges will win. They face eliminations and twists from the "Mountain's Keeper," testing their morale and unity. Their greatest challenge is to stay together and reach the summit on time—failure means losing the entire prize."

https://www.cbs.com/shows/the-summit/

PS btw, someone already requested a forum for it, but it hasn't been created yet

Just FYI,you might want to get any Christmas/Hannukah/Birthday gifts for your kids/grandkids now, because a dock-workers strike is due to start tonight at midnight.

This might be the biggest strike since 1977, and a lot of things will be out of stock fast (especially toys.)

Also stuff your teenagers/young adults might be hoping for might be in very short supply, if the strike really takes place, and lasts any amount of time.

Maybe stock up on toidy paper too 😂

Thanks for the heads-up, @ChiCricket. I'm thinking about this now as I write up a shopping list.

Yesterday I experimented with blue dye on my hair. No worries, it's completely temporary and will wash out with shampoo when I hop into the shower in a few minutes. I also bought a jar of that stuff in white and will try that today. I thought of Jill Rodrigues when I applied the blue dye, especially because I was thinking of a few things that I plan to shop for at Walmart today.  🤣 A childless, man-less, blue haired woman - EEK!! 😱😱

About the blue dye - I don't hate it but I need to figure out where to apply it and how strongly. I think I'll get a jar of the dye in pink to warm up my coloring. My hair is natural and has gone white in my old age. I'm going to try the white dye to see if it gets rid of the slight yellow tones. I sometimes use that purple shampoo to do that, and may go back to that after playing with the temporary hair dyes.

I suspect I'll freak out some of my relatives if I end up running around with colored hair highlights all the time. Heh.

First fall as an old lady.

Some people I birthed had a grand old time via text messages! 🤣

I was alerted to the bathroom at 1658 by an ad lib for transfers/ambulation without assistive device resident.

Fall was unwitnessed. She requires neuro checks:
Q30min x2 hours
Qhourx4 hours
Q4 hoursx 18hours, then q8 hours for 3 days

Resident should be entering the bathroom and not allowed to lock the door x72 hours. If she passes the 72 hour trial, she may have her locking the door privelagss back

Patient self reports pain/injury to left knee and left rib cage area.

Individual has requested that all communication connected to this incident be distributed through this channel as to not engage in behavior she views as “speaking behind her back”.

IMG_1627.jpg.2a7ef8ce86f4e6f52df064ee2e1baf95.jpgTonight's cat blanket.  The only problem is that it is still kind of warm at night, and the cats make me too hot.  They do provide an almost waist to toe coverage that I will appreciate during the snowy winter, however.  I do think they are very happy to be inside lap cats.

Hi, @ginger90! How are you feeling after the fall? Better, I hope.

@CalicoKitty, what a lovely blanket! Thanks for sharing. One of these days I may bring a cat home. It's been a long time since one lived with me. (Note, I didn't use ownership language there. I ❤️ cats, am well aware that while dogs may have owners, cats have staff. Just saying.)

Less discomfort as far as the ribs each day. They say it will be 6-8 weeks of healing. Thanks for asking. 😁

I got my Moderna booster yesterday. It was a rough night, but worth it. Last year was a breeze.  I forgot to hydrate heavily 24 hours prior to vaccine.  Hopefully, feeling better soon.

Can I get some feedback on car colors?  I’ve resumed my new car mission and have one more question.  Are white cars impossible to keep clean?  I’ve never had one. I’ve had red, blue and silver.  Thinking of something different.  I’d go with red, blue or dark green, but they tend to have black interiors and I’d like grey interior.

Dark green sounds lovely.

I like it…again…concerned with keeping it clean.  I really want leather seats, but not sure it’s an option unless I get white exterior.

My experience is that white cars do not show dust and dirt as much as darker colors.  White also does not fade in the sun.  I, also, like light interiors.  In fact, I will not buy a car with black interior.

We had a dark green Ford Fusion with a beige interior.  I had compliments on that car.  My previous car was a white Escape with a black interior.  While it didn't show dirt too horribly, it did show pollen.  I currently drive a black-on-black Escape.  (Mr Six's Mustang is the same). I don't wear shorts, so a warm seat doesn't bother me.  And, as a personal preference, I prefer the look of black on black.

I had one white car. Unfortunetly, it showed rail dust from the train it came on. It was near impossible to get off and it would take forever to wash the car to remove it. I had the car 3 years and it never went fully away. I had a friend that had the same thing with his white car. I've known several people who had many white cars and never had this happen.

I also never found the "white doesn't show as much dirt" to be all that true. I felt it showed just as much as any other color. I vowed to never buy another white car, mainly because I'm terrified I will get the rail dust again. I've stuck to black every since. This of course, is my own personal opinion.

I appreciate all the input about car colors.  I’m surprised that black cars are so popular.  I would think keeping black clean would be the most difficult one of all.  I guess I’ve opened my mind to consider more options.

I've had one white car and one pale blue car.  They showed all the dirt and all the dings.  My current car is medium to dark gray with a light gray interior.  I think I'll stick with this for future cars.

i have had white vehicles for years and would not change! my car is in the garage unless i am driving it, and i keep it tidy. it always looks presentable, both inside and out. white is THE way to go as far as i am concerned.

The best color for a car I ever had (not that I've owned that many cars) was a used 1998 Toyota Camry that was a kind of light bluish-purple color (called "Iris").  Don't know whether it showed the dirt better or worse than other colors BUT the big advantage was I could find that car quickly even in the biggest parking lot!  (This was before clicking a key fob would cause a "beep" and a headlight flash.)  That color was really rare, and really stood out.  Now my Toyota is a kind of muddy gray-brown, like every fourth car in the U.S. (it sometimes seems to me).

Mine is the ubiquitous silver and it doesn't show dirt at all.  But, there are a lot of silver cars.  I had a red car, loved it, a green car, meh, a blue car, fine, and a silver one before this one.  I guess I like the silver now.  I did love my red car, a 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier.  It got too expensive to fix, finally.

Also it's too damn cold already. I am wrapped up like a burrito.

Basically I'm in a foul mood...

I'm sorry you're having a rough patch, @oliviabenson - I hope things are looking up today. It's 80 here and gorgeous, but it's the last warm day for a few days. (Northern IL) I still have fresh roses blooming! The trees are starting to change. I love fall!

Wondering if either GoodRx or Cost Plus Drugs are any help for future prescriptions?

I am sorry about that. My insurance has been playing the suddenly I need prior auth for some of my meds. I love how they think they are smarter than your doctor (sarcasm).

I have found that GoodRX is actually less expensive than my insurance in almost all cases.  And no "prior authorization" needed.  I use it 99% of the time.

I refer people to the website all the time.  The prices they offer for most basic meds are virtually unbeatable.  It also could not be easier to sign up for the program and use it immediately.

I have had a couple of doctors that had never heard of it, and I had to explain to them how it works.  I hope they mention it to their other patients.  Like you said, it is so easy to sign into the app, and it is really easy to use.  I  save as much as 50%, and sometimes even more.  Even though my insurance has no monthly payment this year, GoodRX is better.

GoodRx actually sends little cards to my office explaining how to sign up.  We have a little holder in the waiting room and I keep a few in my exam rooms to hand out.
