S07.E01: It’s Gonna Be a Great Day

Recommended Posts

I’m glad they’re getting a chance to wrap things up. As much as I and others may have griped and nitpicked, I do want to see how they finish it out.

That said, what happened to Becky’s daughter? Did I miss something where she went to live with her dad? Or went off to boarding school…?

I like Louise's stance on the whole "suing the company" thing. And I alos understand Dan's reluctance to get involved, too.

Jackie wanting to join the force again... I like how Mark reacted to that (and my god, the guy really is crazy tall now).

Hopefully Darlene and Ben find a way to work out having more time together. I do agree that Darlene having more friends to hang out with would be a good balance for her.

The internet needs to update his height, because he certainly isn't 5'5" anymore. John Goodman is apparently 6'2" and he's taller, I think. I guess height genes skipped a generation because Darlene and David producing a kid that tall is hilarious.

Nice tribute to Eric Gilliland.

It has been so long, I could have really used a "Previously, on The Conners" before this episode started.  Wasn't Darlene already off the line, that weird lady in the dark office gave her a promotion?  Or was that just to a managerial position that's still down in the cafeteria itself?  I'll have to look that up.  I had completely forgotten about Ben's hardware magazine plan.

"You're just stringing together words you don't understand" was fun, and "Oh my god, the dog on your face ran off" about Ben shaving that crap off his face made me laugh.

Dan's discussion of how he dealt with the pain of losing Roseanne and how he'd suffer if he dug all that back up and nothing came of it, and Louise saying she can't be part of his decision, was well done, as was Dan's talk with Jackie with her taking it as him not caring anymore.  I wonder if she will indeed pursue this, which would be interesting if talking about Roseanne is something that continues during this short, final season.

Becky and Darlene both being morons, in different ways, about their relationships, no thanks, but they seemed to snap out of it, so hopefully both are one-offs.

"The department needs fresh blood."
"Well, unless you're getting a transfusion ..."

Ha!  Was the young cop played by Laurie's daughter?  I'd read about her appearing, and looked up her credits; I've seen her in an episode of Cold Case, actually one of my favorites, but can't picture her in it, and forgot to keep an eye out tonight (this episode's IMDb page doesn't yet have her role on it).

Yeah, I recognized Zoe Perry right away. That was a nice touch, seeing her and her mom together.

And I agree that for a change Dan's hesitance to do something was well done and more realistic than what they have shown from him in in the past on this series. Maybe this episode is a sign that greater care was taken with the writing for the 6 episode send-off. Thank goodness because it deserves that. I'm just irked that they couldn't have done it before.

And speaking of the department needing "fresh blood", is it even possible to rejoin a police force at Jackie's age? I wouldn't think so but we don't expect that much realism from this show.

I hope they go through with and win the case. Not to at this point would be a big letdown. Let this family finally have a WIN!

It was nice to see Ben's face. I don't like beards on men with fat faces. Shallow me, lol.

A short time in the city, away from the family, and Ben's already a better character. Hopefully he'll get back to the man he was before he got involved with them lol.

I saw an article about Lecy not being ready to give up playing Becky and that she'd love a spinoff with her and Sean's characters.

Because they have such great chemistry.

I don't see it.

I like them together.  I was bored with the Ben/Darlene story last night.

I think the cop mentioned Jackie might be able to work a desk job.  Otherwise, I'm with you that it would make no sense for Jackie to be taken back by the police department.

I'm a little confused at what Jackie's standing would be to bring a lawsuit over Roseanne's death.  Unless she was the executor of Roseanne's estate, my understanding was that an adult sibling typically cannot bring a wrongful death suit when the decedent's spouse and adult children are still alive.

I don’t either. They have negative chemistry. (Forgive me, Samwise Gamgee!)

How is Becky going for her Masters already!?  That always drove me nuts about how they wrote her character. She’s working weird hour jobs, raising a child and somehow going to school full time, all at once. Lanford is Magic for single Moms. Yes, they shoehorned in her in-laws helping, but unless that kid is with them 24/7, it’s just not possible. But reality left this show long ago.

Don’t hate me, but I like Ben better with the beard. It’s great to see him so motivated tho, and not vegging on the couch, depressed & slamming beers, but I’m sure Darlene will crush his spirit again before long.

Again, I have to suspend alot of belief to enjoy this show. They go from totally skint to having enough money to open & remodel a new office, getting convenient promotions, etc Life just doesn’t work like that.

I never saw any chemistry between them as well. I feel like Lecy “sees” it because she is a fan of Sean. Lecy/Becky had chem with mark/Glenn

I really hope that winning the lawsuit with the pharmacy company isn't going to be the payoff to the season and the series

If the show stays true to the original run, then the Connors can't get a big payout and live happily ever after.  From the first episode, we knew the family was destined to struggle.

It's one of the reasons that hitting the lottery never rang true.

No spoilers here; but I was thinking about the lawsuit.  It would probably have to be a class action suit, and we were in two {which we knew nothing about} and got about $4. from one and $7. from the other one.

And in reality, any lawsuit would presumably take way longer than the time they have to wrap things up, unless they're planning a time jump. Not that they've been particularly concerned with reality...

What does it say about me that I didn't even notice that Ben shaved the beard off? I think I heard the line about the dog on his face running off but I didn't really register it, I guess.

Laurie Metcalf's character is almost unwatchable for me.  Love Louise.

I cannot stand Jackie! They have ruined her. There is no way they would make her a cop and put her out on the street. LOL Also a lawsuit would take years but why be realistic?

Jackie has been so annoying--that's why that scene with the young cop was so great.  She was not having any of Jackie's nonsense.

Exactly.

Yeah, I hate how they ruined Jackie's character. And Laurie is such an amazing actress but even she can't overcome bad writing and direction.

I doubt Big Pharma will settle out of court and pay each individual case.  So I agree that a class action lawsuit is the only way and payout is very little if they actually win. But this is The Conners so who know what will happen in their sitcom land.

Thank you for posting this.

We could imagine this is exactly what would happen for the Connors.  They would get hyped up about the settlement and start making plans or even spending the anticipated money. . .

Then receive a $4 check in the mail.

Now that seems like a fitting outcome for the show.

You are exactly right, and this is sad.

Many of us know people who seem destined to struggle.  You hear about them receiving an inheritance or other windfall and HOPE that this will put them over the top.

But you know they will be right back in the same position a few years later.
