I have been wishing that Anita's story was something more intriguing than a comeback but the scenes between Anita and Tracy reminded me of what I liked about soaps sometimes.  The actresses really elevated that material and I am very intrigued by Tracy's last statement.  Who else did Anita leave behind?

It's not until she actively does something to help cover it up.  Not telling people Leslie confessed to her normally isn't enough.  But if she steals and hides evidence, even if the intent is to blackmail Leslie, then that might cross over into criminal.

do 16 year olds really talk like Samantha, with all that slang? Especially upper class teens? Is it a regional thing? Cultural? Granted I’m not around many teenagers, but I’ve just never heard anyone talk like that every single day. It sounds pretentious.

I agree. Too often his scenes involve him speechifying about something which is a great way to establish his character at the beginning but it needs to start getting phased out. Bring it back at certain times when it calls for it but it's time to explore his character more. What does he do when he's not doing a sermon? I think they will get him more to do soon.

They just started up Anita's own storyline with the group so in time we'll get more from Vernon. Maybe when they fully explain Martin's secret and whatever role Vernon and Bill played in covering it up.

Just so you all know, it was a rerun today.  CBS reran the 4/8 episode, which revolved around Chelsea's final fashion show.  I suspected it a few minutes in, and then, I knew for sure when the opening showed Maurice in it rather than Keith.

Never mind that Y&R and B&B seemed to have new episodes today.

I’m almost certain Vernon is not a saint lol! He probably has more than his share of skeletons in his closet and I look forward to finding out what they are. If anything, his portrayal of the perfect man will add more spice to his downfall. I don’t expect him to actually be destroyed or even close. But it will be nice to see him as more ‘human.’

id also like to know what type of history Samantha needed help with that her father couldn’t give her? Unless it was specifically the civil rights movement, Vernon doesn’t necessarily have tons of knowledge. He certainly might, but Martin is a congressman. I’m sure he studied history in school. I appreciate them showing family closeness, it just seems a bit forced.

FYI For any Canadian viewers, this did actually air today, like a new ep. I haven't watched it yet, but I checked to see if it was a continuation of FRiday and yes it is. Kind of weird- I assumed there would be a deal to hold off and CHCH would air the repeat. I guess not. 

I'm lucky bc I almost deleted my dvr- in fact i tried to, but the dvr gremlins saved me.

So now Canada is going to be a day ahead from now on just like Y&R? Stupid move CBS. If you can air a new ep in Canada, there’s no excuse for not airing it in the US.

okay Canadian peeps, I’m gonna need you to not talk about the episode until it airs in the States, or use spoiler tags.  Maybe we need to create a new folder for the Canadian show? That’s what they did on the YR board. 🤷‍♀️

I didn't even know that this airs in Canada, too.

The U.S. might get caught back up to Canada once Canada Day hits, if not Canada's Thanksgiving Day.  Surely one of those days will cause this to be preempted.

It airs everywhere in Canada only if you choose to pay for CHCH. People in Ontario (or parts of Ontario maybe) have the channel for free. People outside of Ontario can choose to have it as part of their TV package, so you'd need to pay for it.

So re: the Camadian channels- my condo has cable and it airs on two channels -CHCH 11 and 16 WIVB (CBS). I'm in Ontario. This is Rogers cable.

The ep I have was 16 WIVB (CBS). CHCH I ended up deleting without checking what it was 

Which is still super weird bc previously with news cut ins - was there a shooting or something a month ago I camt remember the event- WIBV/CBS got interrupted and CHCH didnt. But yesterday WIBV/CBS aired it and not sure what happened to chch.

Anyway I agree it is confusing and kind of a PITA. 

I watxhed today's ep but I won't comment.

S01.E60: Tuesday, May 27, 2025

Back to the new episodes today!

I really wish we could see Chelsea and Kat actually at work with their purse line.  And what are the Three by Fives?  Anyway, I liked Chelsea telling Kat about Allison, and Kat telling Chelsea about the troubles that she's having with Tomas.  But Chelsea was right that Eva is Kat's half-sister, and she shouldn't fully close the book on knowing her in some capacity.  Didn't appreciate Kat threatening her with a place on her "dead to me" list.  At least Chelsea understands that Eva was lied to and, in some ways, tricked into doing some of her bad deeds.  Kat still doesn't seem to get that.

Now that I think about it, Tomas is kind of right that Kat hasn't really tried to get to know him, while he's tried to get to know her.  But Eva's gotten to know him.  He's right that Kat should get to know him face-to-face, not through his social media posts or stories.  I wouldn't have guessed that he reads Carl Ivati, though.  And not surprising that he salsa dances, being Puerto Rican.  And he also works with the Big Brother program for a boy named Ramón?!  So he's charitable and generous, too!

But at least they reached an understanding about Eva.  Tomas still likes Eva and understands her position, while Kat at least believes that she's entitled to disilie and distrust her without being seen as a bad person for it.  (But that's only if she avoids taking her dislike for her.)  So it seems as though they're back on track.

So Tomas is still spying for Bill?  And Hayley actually knows about it?

Hayley is still whining about being left out of the community activities, which . . . why is she still so surprised about that?  And she's frustrated over Bill being taken away from her by clients and other people.  Oh, and Hayley's pregnant.  Ugh.  Bill is presumptuous that it's a boy, though.  It could be a girl.

Chelsea saying that she'd lose her lunch over Hayley being pregnant made me titter, though.  She's right that she and the baby will be ostracized even more.  But Hayley had the nerve to presume that Chelsea was hoping that Bill would eventually go back to Dani after a short time of enjoyment with Hayley.

So it sounds like Martin only came out to the family when he introduced Smitty to them.

So Smitty clearly wants Martin to tell him what Bill has on him.  I don't think that Martin fully remembers what it is, though.  Still, using Smitty to threaten Martin wasn't cool, and part of me wants Martin to rip into him for that.  He managed to talk Smitty away from what little he does remember about his secret, but I don't know if he can for long.

More cute interactions from Tyrell and Jessica today.  And I liked that Samantha gave her blessing.  That first kiss was cute.

I was on the edge of my seat, wondering what Anita and Tracy had between them.  They seemed on the cusp of revealing it on Friday, so I was disappointed that it looked like they were easing back from it at the start of today's episode.  But it sounds like Tracy's still into the reunion idea, despite the tension.  But I'm glad that Anita made her apology, and Tracy accepted it.

Looks like that's it for Tracy, at least for now.

But now it's time to meet and convince Sharon. . . .

I was hoping for some more action in today's episode.  I guess the only thing that happened was Hayley telling Bill she was pregnant.  I like her when she puts up more of a fight against Bill.  I dislike her when she acts all surprised that she hasn't been able to be accepted by Bill's family or the old community built by his ex-wife's family.  If she wanted to make life difficult for herself, she better be ready to live a difficult life.

Kat strongly implied it when she was talking to Chelsea about Allison.  Chelsea mentioned that she wouldn't have been the first one in their family to come out.  Kat agreed, recalling how supportive the family was with Martin, and how they embraced Smitty with open arms right after Martin came out to the family.

 Eva doesn't know anything Leslie says to be fact.  She has 5, 6 different names and just as many wigs and disguises.  At this point Eva isn't covering anything up.  Eva DOES need to tell Ted what's going on and let him take it from there (but she's not and she will be arrested for attempted murder after Leslie throws her under the bus and only Ted will believe and defend her, which will further divide Ted from Nicole and Kat).

I don't know about "teens" but Samantha is not an upper class teen.  She only got adopted into that socio-economic status a couple of years ago.

I think Samantha is easily influenced and easily impressed by what's "cool" and she will mimic anything that's "cool."

I think people need to stop telling Kat she needs to have a relationship with Eva.  She doesn't need to.  If she tells other people (Martin, Ted, Tomas, Chelsea, Andre etc) not to have a relationship with Eva, she would be (and is) wrong but if she makes the individual choice not to have anything to do with Eva, that should be her choice.

Kat may also see forming a relationship with Eva as a betrayal to Nicole.

I think Tomas wants to like Kat and get to know her as a person but if she wasn't a Dupree he would've written her off a long time ago IMO. She's been mean & catty and I don't think he cares for that type of behavior.   I also think Tomas isn't supposed to like Eva but he does and he's been more revealing of himself to Eva than he's been with Kat. 

Kat admitted she had walls up because people have only befriended/dated her because she was a Dupree.

Hayley has zero problems in what Bill wants to do to those women. She was practically urging Bill to destroy Naomi and the women . I just wish the writers would write her as the terrible person she is instead of this wide eyed, wannabe innocent.

Yeah, it is weird, the whole conversation between the 3 teens today, when they are by themselves, all I heard was "proper English", nothing that would even remotely be considered slang.

That makes perfect sense and I think you’re right about her being easily impressed and mimicking. Look how impressed she was by the salon Eva works at and the idea of having her hair done. I feel much better about it now lol!

The show probably had to be careful not to use a name which had actually been a group in real life. Motown alone ate up a lot of the possibilities back in its early days. 

That said, ICAM about "Articulettes." It just doesn't roll off the tongue easily and radio disk jockeys would've hated it. I get the humor of a group of Black women calling themselves articulate but it's reading as try hard to me.

Also, every time I see Maria Howell, actress playing Tracy, I think of Debbi Morgan back her AMC days. Per the googles they're both from NC so they could actually be distant cousins.

The name fits right on with the naming convention at the time.  There were a LOT of girl groups that were around back then that were one hit wonders and that we never hear of anymore but adding an  'ettes' to the end of a word was sort of a thing.  And not just the Marvelletes or the Ronettes who were a couple of the bigger ones.

The Mirettes
The Pearlettes
The Charmettes
The Four Coquettes

Tracy would not be talking to me like that in my own house for very long. I mainly heard jealousy in her words, not so much hurt. So I don't trust her and I don't think she's really forgiven Anita for leaving and getting a glow up. I get that it's the 'how' she left but, unless your husband was sleeping with your band mate and then you went on to write a bunch of songs about it and what an asshole he was, and then made him sing it on stage in front of people, the breakup of the Articulettes cannot be nearly as bad as Fleetwood Mac lol. 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

Vernon sure nuff has a side kid out there, from his civil rights days. I'd hate it but it makes more sense. I think it would be from before he met Anita, to keep him faithful. They need another husband who isn't a cheater, besides Jacob and maybe Doug. So it would still cause drama but not as a side kid. 

I don't like Tomas. He was actually sharing things with Eva, she didn't have to ask him questions. So that bullshit he told Kat about her not asking about him was just that, some ol bullshit. You're a damn lawyer, you can't speak up and tell your own story? I feel like he's testing and judging Kat by a different metric than Eva, and Ion like it. He ain't that cute, and I reiterate, this show needs a few more single young men. Give me a straight male nurse, or Laura's brother, who works construction but secretly is a gifted carpenter, and comes in hot when his sister tells him somebody tried to kill her, or Mona's nephew from Anacostia that gets recruited by Dani as a model. Somebody besides this heavy lidded, dead eyed asshole. 😒

I don't know that I believe that child is with child. She is entirely too dumb to be anyone's mother. And, again, why don't Bill and his child bride take themselves OUTSIDE of the neighborhood his ex-wife's family built? Nobody is forcing them to live there or eat there or spawn there. Nobody at all. And I hope Chelsea is right, that she continues to get ignored. She wants service, go TF somewhere else in all of the DMV. Where nobody knows you. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Chelsea is stupidly naive about how she thought her threesome was gonna play out. The married couple came as a pair, that wasn't ever gonna change. She needs to find her own person, whoever that is.

Sure "The Articulettes" wouldn't have been out of place per the naming convention, but I still think it would've been unlikely as a name for a textbook girl group in the R&B/Soul genre.

For example, note that none of those group names had more than three syllables (not including the "The.") The key at the time was to have a name that was easy to remember and quick to say. "The Articulettes" name would've been an outlier but of course on BTG it was perfect.

I don't think Tomas feels safe to open up to Kat. She's judgmental, has mean girl tendencies and is quick to write you off when things aren't perfect or her way.

Tomas felt safer to share himself with Eva because they come from similar backgrounds. Plus Eva is a nobody he doesn't have to impress to move up in his career...although that may change with Ted publicly acknowledging Eva as his daughter.  Tomas may decide to go after the Richardson daughter who is less judgy.

I don't want Tomas with Kat or Eva; I think Kat should kick him to the curb because she has expressed how she feels about him associating with Eva and he continues to associate with Eva, so kick him to the curb and move on. 

If Kat wants to date someone who isn't trying to use her for her Dupree connections, she needs to date within her social circle.  I'm sure she was a debutante, has college friends, was in Jack & Jill, summered in Martha's Vineyard etc.  Get one of her friends to recommend someone and go from there. Tomas ain't it.

Yeah Tracy kinda sounded like a crabs-in-a-barrel type to me which I suspected that at least one of her former bandmates would be on that kind of timing.....but I'll reserve further judgement until we actually meet Sharon. Maybe Anita did something horrific to Sharon to justify her & Tracy's attitude towards her. I kinda hope so tbh, otherwise they're just being envious/bitter for the sake of it.

Yeah, I noticed that too, Kat, the woman he made the decision to pursue, has to play 21 questions everytime they meet up but Eva, someone he's not dating, gets free a backstory just because? How is that fair Tomas? I regret giving him the benefit of the doubt now...

Kay might be off base about Eva being the one running Laura off the road, but not much else. Considering Eva is still getting roped in by her psycho manipulative mother, she isn't helping herself as much as she could. Which I hate for her.

S01.E61: Wednesday, May 28, 2025

Chelsea had her awesome moment right at the top of the episode with her shot at both her father and Hayley.  And I expected it to go nuclear as soon as she told Dani about the pregnancy, and it did, though not in the explosive way that I was expecting.  She just went on a long, sarcastic rant about her.  And she also thinks that she's faking.  But I think that Chelsea's right -- that Dani can't handle Bill and Hayley having a baby together.

I knew that trying to use Smitty against Martin was going to come back to bite Bill.  Martin was pissed, and rightfully so.  Too bad he forgets that Bill still does hold his secret over him.  But I was oddly glad that Martin, upon the disgust of learning of the pregnancy, humiliated Bill in return for threatening him.  Bill may be a villain, but even villains need humbling moments.

. . . And then, it turned out to be a fantasy.  Which . . . come on, Show.  Bill deserved some kind of real humbling.

And of course Smitty knew where Martin really went, and he rightly confronted him over it.  Martin was forced to be honest -- mostly honest -- with him.  But it'd really be easier if he just told Smitty his secret.  But Mike Manning could've played his surprise over Hayley's pregnancy with a lot more . . . surprise.

How Naomi resisted slapping or even punching Hayley, I don't know.  I was hoping she'd find out about the pregnancy from her, though.  Are the writers hoping to make her find out in a different way?

We got a continuation of Tyrell and Jessica.  I wonder if that was Tyrell's first kiss?  He seemed awkward after it.  But of course he tanks things by being so insecure, he believes that her interest in him is based on pity or is a prank.  Come on, Tyrell!  Be happy, not suspicious or insecure!  Essentially, Samantha had to tell him the same thing.

Derek and Ashley seem to be back on track, though they're not living together anymore.  But it was interesting to find out that Jacob and Naomi hadn't had smooth sailing in living together, either.  Although it was mainly Naomi adjusting, not Jacob.

Nice fake out at the club. I really thought Martin was stupid enough to go off on Bill. 

I just can’t with Dani anymore. I truly hope they tone her down a bit because this is getting ridiculous.

Martin clearly realized that it would be stupid, too, which was why he ultimately didn't.  But I wouldn't have blamed him if he had.  Bill has a smugness and an arrogance to him that needs to be taken down at least a few dozen pegs.

"I'll go get some snacks.", then Samantha comes back with some lettuce and carrot sticks. I am thinking you guys are not kids. THEN Samantha comes back with some "Tide Pods" and I am thinking you guys ARE some dumb kids.

The show really should get some product placement. Orphey Genes could use paper cups with soft drink names on them. The kids could be eating real snacks. People walking around holding laundry detergent and air freshener seems more like sight gags than product placement.

I fell asleep on the last 15 minutes of the show.  Derek & Ashley were on and I rested my eyes and next thing I know, the credits were rolling.

It's technically not Dani's business but Bill and Hayley chose to continue their lives as Dani's neighbors. Bill forced Dani's family to go to the wedding.   They want to make sure Dani can't escape their business. 

If I'm Chelsea, I am not going to hide that information from my mom and have her potentially find out in a worse way and the fact that I kept it a secret.

I was happy Dani seemed to take it well at first but I admit to laughing at her crazy theories.

Yeah.  This is Smitty's aunt-in-law's ex-husband's trophy wife.  Not sure it deserves more of a 'hmm interesting. '  That was basically Martin's reaction too.

I knew Martin's reaction was a daydream.   He's working too hard at lying to Smitty to expose he has a secret in public. I did like Smitty knowing about the lie.

It doesn't matter if Bill and Hayley were living in Dani's house, Hayley's pregnancy is none of Dani's business or concern.  

Chelsea knows how Dani can get wound up and what did Chelsea do? Run straight to Dani to wind her up about Hayley's pregnancy.

It's literally none of Dani's business if Hayley is pregnant.  Dani's children are adults and out of the house, it's not like she and Bill have a co-parenting situation where they have to deal with each other for the sake of the kids. 

Again, people wind up Dani, then get upset and shocked when she gets wound up.

The only people in the Dupree family who should be expressing anything more than "Oh. Ok." about Hayley's pregnancy are Naomi and Chelsea.

Hayley should call the police on Dani and have her arrested for trespassing and breaking and entering.  Lady, you're not going to come up in my house uninvited and bark at me about my personal business with my husband.

(and if Hayley is lying about her pregnancy, still not any of Dani's business or concern.  That's Bill's problem).

I thought it was kind of funny Dani was listing typical soap plotlines- who's the daddy, fake pregnancy. Thought the show was being a bit tongue in cheek.

I'm hoping they'll do something different than those stories.

I saw it as a kind of a controlled detonation on Chelsea's part.  "Thank god we're being rational, or else things could get messy."  Meanwhile, Dani embodies that line from classic Leverage, "Do that thing with your eyes that scares people."
