“Star Trek: Section 31” is a new movie that starts streaming on Paramount+ on Friday, January 24.

“Pod Save America” Is a podcast.

“Wish You Were Here” is a movie currently playing in theaters but appears to be a limited release as it is not playing anywhere in my state. According to my Fandango searching, it is playing in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago (and maybe other places but these are the only cities I checked.)

Yay, a week of Joy-Ana shows! I didn't recall Whoopi was going to be out.

I was glad Joy corrected Alyssa when she tried to attribute the ceasefire to Trump. That was such a ridiculous comment, but she's full of them these days. She got on my nerves in the second segment when she tried to speak after every single person who disagrees with her. And thrn there's the weird faces she makes while Sara's talking, like Sara is reading pre-written talking points Alyssa gave her and Alyssa is hoping Sara says them exactly word-for-word as written, LOL.

I’m surprised that they didn’t talk about Elon Musk giving the Nazi salute!

Because it wasn't!  The next time you see that video, listen to the AUDIO. Musk said "from my heart (touching his heart) to yours (gesturing towards the audience both times). Musk is very animated, so the gesture was very awkward.

Alyssa, who often cites her faith as a core part of her identity, took exception to Bishop Budde not speaking to Trump privately about her concerns. Like anything she would have said to him in private would actually register with that sociopath. The Bishop made a courageous plea from her heart based on the Christian values of mercy, compassion, and aid. It was marvelous to see those two degenerates Trump and Vance squirm in their seats while she so eloquently explained what true Christianity is.

It probably wouldn't have made any more difference in private than it did in public. Knowing that it wouldn't make much difference either way (given how Trump reacts to criticism of any kind), was the Bishop's sermon mostly performative intended for the rest of the audience rather than a sincere attempt to communicate with Trump?

In general, I think private conversations are more effective, because the person you are criticizing is less likely to be defensive without an audience and more likely to hear your message. Making comments in public always seems to be more about showing everyone how you stand, rather than convincing someone.

Aren't all sermons performative???

The Bishop had a responsibility to her flock and others in the audience to let them know the spiritual principles that are the bedrock of the church.  Now there's a woman with courage and principles.

I feel it was a sincere attempt to try to reach Trump and some of his cronies - I do feel that Vance, at least, is not beyond hope.  At any rate this was also an opportunity to tell those being targeted by Trump that they are not alone, they are being heard and that people, good people, are still out there who care about truth and justice and fairness and mercy.  Was it wasted on Trump?  Of course it was.  Jesus Christ himself could appear with words of compassion and not only would Trump demand an apology from him, so would most of his so-called Christian followers.

I agree with you about Trump and the minister, Dimity.

But Vance's body language in church showed his disdain for the minister's message. He started to speak to his wife,  who kept looking at the minister, then leaned back and to the side , crossed his legs,  wth a smug, subway defiant look on his face. He got it,  but wasn't buying it.

I think Vance is truly worse and fear if he ever has to take over.

Somewhat, not subway.

DITTO on Joy/Anna.   I'm not of Alyssa's political persuasion)s), but I came to appreciate her calm, common sense approach.   Until now.  WHAT THE FUDDLE HAPPENED TO HER ???    She even LOOKS mean!

Hope this isn't an effect of IVF ....

So I eventually watched & she (Alyssa) has been extremely mean & nasty over the last 2 days and I have a theory (because she specifically mentioned it yesterday & seemed very annoyed by it) that she is pissed because Biden didn't include the witnesses in his Jan6 hearing pre-emptive pardons.

I am wondering who had prodded Sarah to mention the pardon of Ross Ulbricht, was it Alyssa to help deflect or did someone else point it out.

The fact that Trump even knows who Ross Ulbricht is came as a huge surprise to me as 99.9% of people would have no idea who he was & would presume that his sentence of 2 life terms + 40 years given in 2015 would make him some terrorist from another country. It's certainly a very strange pardon for Trump to give out considering he has never mentioned the guy before & he has no connection to Trump that we know of.

Sarah is correct in that it flew under the radar because of the Jan6 pardons & the uproar surrounding those, but why was it given at all? A very very very strange pardon & a little worrying considering the circumstances & the way it was buried in a flurry of pardons.

I would love to know what he was whispering to his wife.  “Don’t worry, honey. We won’t deport you?”

that sounds like the same explanation we got about trump when he mocked a disabled reporter…

We could use a whole network (temporarily) just for the lip-reading of Vance and President Trump at the recent events.  Inquiring gossips want to know!

Usha Chilukuri Vance is not worried; she was born in San Diego, California.

Doesn't matter. Trump is on record as saying that sometimes US born family members would have to be deported along with their immigrant parents.

Not sure what you saw was disdain. Reportedly Vance a few years ago converted from atheism to a born again Christian and is very devout Catholic now.

Is she afraid Trump might cause her harm in some way?  Join the club honey.

Yet at least three white nationalist leaders/media people have interpreted it as favorable to their Nazi roots. In politics, perception is reality.

Alyssa: “There is no aboutism here (wrt trump pardoning Jan 6), but let’s talk about Biden pardoning Hunter.”  Just shut TF up!

Yes, no denying this one. It is quite a stretch to compare pardoning violent criminals and preemptively pardoning family members who have been threatened with investigations by a vindictive president with almost unlimited power.

So I have only the vaguest idea about what cryptocurrency is, and please, I'm not asking to be enlightened. But among the groups Trump sought electoral help ($) from were those who are into cryptocurrency, and Ulbricht is a hero of theirs. Trump promised them he would get a pardon. They gave him $100 million. Trump called him "Ulbright" but his lawyers must have gotten it right in the pardon documents.

What wd you call it?

Every time I've heard him speak, since becoming  the VP candidate, I find his uber-conservatism to be truly frightening.  Plus his lack of political/governmental experience, or much else,  besides writing an autobio book and then being bought by a real billionaire, is concerning to say the least. He was raised evangelical. Enough said.

Why does he make his wife, who is a practicing Hindu, attend his church with him every Sunday?

I was raised Catholic, had mass everyday except Saturday, parochial school, etc. I left in my late 30s. I go to/volunteer at an inspirational Unity church now.  I attend my old Catholic church when I go back to visit family about 2/3 times a year. I find it very anachronisticnow, and frankly kind of boring. I don't think I've ever heard a spiritually rousing sermon there.

Vance did not look interested nor intent join the talk, IMHO.

When did they mention that Trump had promised them or even Trump mention it before that pardon? I'm interested in the when & who he promised it to, rather than the why. The fact that he would pardon a convicted felon doesn't surprise me as much as what he was in prison for & how a drug dealer in connected to Trump.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I had seen nothing about any previous connection & maybe you can point me something I missed.

Trump said he wants to punish Canada and Mexico for allowing drugs to cross their borders into our country. Pretty sure he once upon a time said drug dealers should get the death penalty.  And here he is pardoning a man who among other things used the internet to sell drugs.  Wonder how much Trump is getting paid for that pardon.

Article in NYT headline today:

How Trump Was Persuaded to Pardon an Online Drug Kingpin

Libertarian and crypto allies of Ross Ulbricht, who was serving a life sentence for distributing drugs on his Silk Road website, leveraged President Trump’s desire for political support to secure his release.

It starts:

In December 2023, Angela McArdle, the chair of the Libertarian Party, flew to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Donald J. Trump.

Mr. Trump wanted to know how to win over libertarian voters, a constituency he thought could help him reclaim the presidency, Ms. McArdle said in an interview. She had an answer: Free Ross Ulbricht, a Bitcoin pioneer who was sentenced to life in prison in 2015 for creating Silk Road, the world’s largest online drug marketplace. Mr. Ulbricht was regarded as a libertarian hero for building an illegal market outside the government’s reach.

“I love freeing people,” Mr. Trump said, according to Ms. McArdle. Five months later, she hosted him at the Libertarian Party’s national convention, where he announced onstage that, if elected to the presidency, he would release Mr. Ulbricht.

Libertarians celebrating a man who's "business outside of the government's reach" most assuredly resulted in people's deaths and now Trump is setting him free.  If there is a Hell they are going to need to add some fuel to the fire.  The guest list is getting longer by the day.

Exactly what I thought, drugs are okay as long as the orange felon is getting something out of it, in this case votes & most likely $s.

Has there ever been a president so blatantly profiting from being in the Oval office?  Not once he's left which most of them do parlay into some form of income (speeches, chairmanships,  writing books...) I mean lining their pocket while "serving" their country.  It's disgusting.

That’s why, though unfortunate, I’m not discouraged about trump avoiding prosecution. He surely will do enough criminal activity while in office to be prosecuted by the next justice dept. As long as we get someone a little less timid than Merrick Garland. Of course it will depend on SCOTUS’s definition of “official conduct.”

I love Michelle Yeoh.
