Also, Republicans will always Republican, meaning they’ll use any damn song they want they want without accountability or punishment. Lawsuits? Those can take years to work through. That’s how he gets through life . . . people sue him, he unleashes lawyers with no moral compass whatsoever, and the people filing the suit would wind up settling out of frustration.

That is what intrigues me. How does he get everyone to cooperate?  Are there threats behind the scenes?  I know people get "primaried" but if everyone stood up and said "No" would that make a difference.? People outtside Louisiana thought he was just the most wonderful young man.  He went to school with Sweet Son and had been at our house when he was a little boy.  Nice kid. Then he started using his power for evil.  We knew it in Louisiana because we and others worked for or retired from the state.  We couldn't understand why the legislature just didn't have a secret meeting and band together and "just say no" to quote Nancy Reagan.  So, why?

Other Canadian leaders spoke to this as well. Trudeau has stated: Not a ‘snowball’s chance in hell’ of Canada becoming 51st state.  Even Pollieve (the loathsome little Conservative cretin) isn't going to be backing this move.    NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh told Trump to “cut the crap.”

Kevin O'Leary (kinda Canada's cut rate Trump in a cheaper suit) does not even begin to speak for Canada.

Part of the problem is the Clown Show has moved into town right when our PM has resigned.   I don't think there is any real concern that Idiot Boy is going to show up at the border in a tank with a helmet on his big orange head - the concern is the threat of tariffs that he's been  chattering about since even before the election.

I've been thinking about the threats of military action against the Danes in order to seize Denmark.  (I'm assuming one of his minions will tell him it's the Danes, not the Dutch.)  Denmark is a NATO country.  NATO is a mutual defense treaty, meaning that an attack on one member nation is considered an attack against all 32 member nations.  That means that the other 30 member nations (I'm not counting the United States) would join Denmark in any action required, including military action, to restore the security of Denmark and their territory of Greenland.  Donald is such an idiot, it probably hasn't even occurred to him that Denmark would not be alone, that he's not bullying just one small country. 

I had lunch recently with a good friend, a lifelong Republican, a Vietnam vet who worked for decades in law enforcement.  We were chatting about the current state of affairs.  He is as horrified by what is ahead as I am; he asked me to stop referring to the Republican Party or Republicans, that in his view Donald and MAGA have killed the Republican Party and it no longer exists in any way he recognizes.  He said with very few exceptions the party has been taken over by people who have no regard for truth, honor, morality, and the rule of law.

And this is precisely why I have no patience or time for the "Just give him a chance, he hasn't even taken office yet, calm down, everyone!" reactions. Even if he's just blowing hot air, or just old man nonsense rambling...how the fuck is this supposed to inspire confidence or reassurance in his ability to run this country? Why are we supposed to have any time or pateince for this nonsense, or give someone who's spewing this kind of insanity a chance? 

And again, ,how are Trump supporters not embarrassed as hell by all of this? How are they not realizing just how gigantic a mistake they've made? LIke I said, this is precisely why I have zero respect for Trump supporters. It seems there's very little he can do that crosses a line with any of them. We found one recently with Musk...but even their anger at that is for the dumbest reasons., and it's something the rest of us have been literally trying to warn them about for months now and which they ignored. So again, no sympathy, 'cause, like, this is what you literally get by tying yourselves to this nutjob, people. Which just further explains my earlier rant about why I despise the Republican Party. Mind, my disgust with them started well before Trump took office, but seeing how they've just gone full on rabid devotion to him is frightening as hell. Whether it's because of fear of retribution or because they agree with his policies and want to enact them, either option is disturbing. Your friend is right. It's not a party anymore. It's a cult. The crap pouring out of his mouth is just becoming more and more unhinged by the day. I can't for the life of me think of any sane justification for supporting him. I never could but now it's even more unimaginable. How millions of people would rather cut off their noses to spite their faces than admit that they made a BIG mistake voting for him is demoralizing. The problem is also that there are probably people out there that still chalk all of this up to his "bluster", intended only to shock and horrify Democrats. I don't believe that. In the Bronx in NYC back in the 1960s I was raised not to be racist by my progressive parents and teachers. Also, my classes were integrated and my friends ran the gamut ethnically speaking. I realize I came from a progressive background but it is sad that 55-60 years later we're still in the same place with this issue. Their parents have been very accepting since finding out because they are pretty progressive, especially for Roman Catholics from Texas, but they have been afraid to tell their elderly immigrant parents about it. One of their mothers' lives close by and my husband thinks she must have found out over Christmas when that grandchild was at family holiday gatherings. We don't know yet how she took the news but we know she can be very traditional about some things. But maybe not, we'll see. She is pretty progressive herself in some ways. We are hopeful that she took it well. They are a very loving family so we are being optimistic about it.

I'm just tired of feeling tired looking at the news. I have stuff going on close to home, and I don't need to be reminded that the US is going to be an even bigger dumpster fire than usual. Sometimes, I just want things to stop. I know that's not positive or healthy, but that's how I feel.

I always had a dislike for the Republican party.  I became politically aware when Reagan was president.  Need I say more.  But it was the 90s with Gingrich and his refusal to work with Democrats that cemented my intense dislike. Remember his suggestion we take the children of single mothers who received welfare and put them in orphanages? Then it was GWB becoming President with an assist from SCOTUS and the Iraq War.  And finally Trump.  But it was also their party's attack on reproductive rights, LGTBQ rights and anything meant to help people who aren't big money donors.  Why would I ever support a party that wants to make my life harder?

Well I don't, but Re: the Gulf of Mexico - I don't see any reason to change it when it's had that name for longer than the US has existed - something like 400+ years. And even if Trump was successful on that the other countries that border the Gulf and also get a say and share in managing it don't have to recognize the name change.

Also, if Trump thinks he's showing exclusive US patriotism by changing the name someone should clue him in that the name "America" isn't exclusive to the U.S. but also includes Canada, and Mexico, which are both in North America and Central and South America as well.

I saw many news reports that Trump is upset that the flag is going to be flown at half mast during his inauguration in honor of Jimmy Carter. He can't stand sharing the spotlight with anyone.

Omg. I'm in a soup. At work I never talk politics, so a woman has gotten it in her head that I'm super MAGA, and now she wants to talk about how great DJT is with every day. She's a nice lady, older, and she gets bullied a lot by co-workers. So I don't want to be mean. But at the same time ... ugh.
