Chit-Chat: The Feels

Recommended Posts

There has been a good deal of coverage about the ten Democrats who voted with the Republicans to censure Rep. Al Green, and it's important that we're aware of this, but there's more to today's censure story. As Rep. Green was called to the well of the House chamber, he was accompanied by about 20 Democratic House members, who sang "We Shall Overcome." A very moving show of protest in solidarity with Congressman Green.

Decades before? Trump hadn’t been cut off from Epstein for decades even if you go exclusively by his own account…just sayin…

Epstein died in 2019 and in 2002 Trump told New York magazine that Epstein was a “terrific guy” who “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

Clinton’s flights were in 2002 and 2003.

I am so looking forward to a Walz/Crockett presidential ticket in 2028! She claims Trump is trying to send Black people "back to the fields" and Walz has functionally vanished from any visible Democratic leadership role since the last campaign when he was about as ineffectual as you can get. 😸

In the meantime, Sebastian Zapeta, the guy accused of setting a woman on fire on the New York City subway, won't be deported because of NYC's sanctuary city policies despite being previously deported in 2018 and returning illegally again to live on the taxpayer dime in Brooklyn for the last five years.

So, the undocumented immigrant should be deported, and the 34-times convicted felon, is a great president. Got it.

The man who set a woman on fire, shouldn't get away with it. Neither should trump. He thanked one of the Justices on his way out, the other night, and said, "I won't forget."

Little tip. If you use your library card to borrow e-books from your library and Libby as the way to read them, Libby also has an option to read borrowed e-books using the Kindle app and because the books are borrowed, Amazon gets no money from it.

This is how I read my Libby books, so I’m glad that Amazon gets no money from it.

I love Libby. As an FYI for anyone who uses or is thinking about using Libby, you can link multiple library cards to have more available loans, holds and a wider catalog available.

Some of my city's branch libraries have started to include seed catalogues, offering little packets of donated seeds for free, with instructions about planting & growing.  Also free weekly lectures by members of our local Master Gardeners Society.  Libraries really are a treasure.

Trump tried to walk that back.  Said he was thanking him for inaugurating him.  Sure Jan.  He is such a liar. He really does believe six of the Supreme Court Justices are "his judges". Wonder if any ketchup was spilled when he found out Roberts and ACB ruled against him yesterday.

How is it preferable that he be deported rather than staying where he currently is, at Rikers being held without bail, so that he can stand trial for murder?

It's very important to mention those specific situations where someone in the country illegally commits a crime.  Extra bonus points if the crime is particularly heinous.  That migrants commit crimes at a much lower rate than citizens is beside the point and not worth bring up.

Yes immigrants are more likely to be the victim of crime than the perpetrator.

Absolutely. And becoming a sanctuary city does not increase crime.

I swear people get some rapidly anti-immigrant that all reason and logic fly out the window. In the previous administration, the same people would be outraged that ICE wanted to deport an accused murder. That would be evidence of all America’s immigration failures.

You mean everything they want to do costs money?  You don't say.  Is it any wonder Trump went bankrupt multiple times and Musk vastly overpaid for Twitter.  These two are stupid.  Their "success" in life was definitely not because they knew what they were doing.

Musk's big move was realising you could sell an electric sports car, and make EVs cool, but in doing so abandoned the drivetrain (and, more recently, charging) businesses - probably a long term oops for short term win (Eberhard and Tarpenning were forced out). His "success" was making the world value the firm as if it's the only car manufacturer in existence 🙄

Look at what happened to Ramaswamy. Musk managed to push him out of being co-creator of DOGE before the election (seemingly in part by yelling "look, he's brown and so foreign!" a lot) lol No honor among thieves.

This is fake news!

Guess Trump didn't get the "fake news" memo:

"U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would soon decide whether to revoke temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, following a Reuters report that his administration planned to take that step."

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-plans-revoke-legal-status-ukrainians-who-fled-us-sources-say-2025-03-06/

Here's an infallible test for assessing if Trump policy news is true:

1) Is the policy the worst possible option available?

2) Will the policy hurt American prestige, prosperity and power?

3) Is the policy pointlessly cruel, and guaranteed to fail?

...answer yes to any, or all of the above, and it's true news about Trump, no matter what Fox & Co say.

Democrats do not want this situation but I am sorry to say that it seems that many Republicans are thriving on the hatred and cheering it on. If anyone wants America to be "the way it used to be" right now, it's Democrats, who wish we could wake up in a time before Trump when somewhat reasonable heads prevailed. It was never perfect but it was never like THIS. All Democrats did was fail to see what was happening and respond to it effectively, but who could blame them when we'd never seen the likes of DJT and his special brand of hate before? And then all DJT can do is blame the "spiteful hatred" on US. Ummmm.....NO, just NO. Look in the mirror, Republicans and look at your "leader" if you want to see where the source of THAT is.

So, IOW, monkey see, monkey do??  Apparently Dems have no mind of their own. Quite sad for the party when they all act like a bunch of junior high kids as a group, no less.

Most Americans today have had loved ones who fought and died for this country.  Or have been touched, in one way or another, by these same things. Appreciate your kind response. I understand the emotions on both sides. There is no contact to this day. So contrary to popular belief, I DO get it...and to a certain degree, understand it.

It was the vitriol, name-calling and snarky attitude that made us 'push back'. Not a good look for ANY of us, but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

Agreed,  of course where we differ is you attribute this to Dems and cherry pick a handful - and a very scant handful - of situations where you think the Dems are not showing compassion simply because they didn't stand up and cheer at Herr Trump's obvious manipulation.

On the other hand most outside the US, and a very goodly number within, know exactly who is demonstrating 'spiteful hatred'- is in fact fueling the fire of hatred - and each day, each and every day there are more examples of that.

So many that it is depressing as hell to even list them, and let's be realistic the chronically indoctrinated aren't listening and short of nuclear war they never will.

BOTH sides cherry pick. I noticed this on day one when I used the phrase "picking flies out of horseshit".  Respect goes both ways. We really need to stop hating each other simply because of our views. If this continues, we'll never get anywhere...by going around in circles.

Agree that it's depressing for both sides. No one side is totally right, nor is the other totally wrong. As with most lies or disagreements, it's usually somewhere in the middle. The Pollyanna in me would like to believe that's possible. But when I watch the news or read SM, I'm disgusted and depressed all over again 😒

If the President is constantly stoking the fires of hatred he is ultimately the one most responsible for it. The election was won because the most important issues for the voters was immigration and prices

The democrats ran on cultural issues. It had me screaming every time I saw an ad or heard a speech on the campaign trail

Women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, voting rights are important to me but FFS democratics read the room

The democrats that voted to censure Rep Green had their reasons and seems from what I read the 10 had 10 different reasons. The thing is that the democrats are fighting in normal times and nothing about this time is normal

I’m already sick of Trump whiplash and it’s bound to catch up to voters that were swayed by empty promises thinking these promises would come to fruition. But when Kamala Harris promised first time home buyers $25,000 each it made me cringe.  I knew it was a promise that would never get approved by congress

The mid terms are coming and at this rate the government is in turmoil and people are already frustrated from the interviews I’ve seen. No one knows if tariffs will ruin businesses or the cost of living and Trump’s constant ever changing decisions are pathetic

Yesterday’s announcement that an EO would be signed so to begin dismantling the Department of Education is just another sad stupid move. Only congress can eliminate any government department and it takes 60 votes in the senate. Fix what’s wrong with it fine whatever that is but throwing kids under the bus is what I’ve come to expect

Tres Bien....I agree about the campaign the Dems (and The White House) ran.  It has always been said that Dems are terrible at messaging.

Who ran the campaigns? That touted the wonderful economy - the stock market was going gangbusters. (when so many voters were struggling, especially at grocery stores). There was no "we feel your pain" and vow to make things better. Bill Clinton ran on the masterful campaign slogan "It's the economy, stupid" - but our current leadership was tone deaf and it cost us everything.  Immigration non-action was the last nail in the coffin - and you can be sure the Republicans counted on it and pounced. We were outsmarted and got run right over.

I don't want to see any of the "brilliant people" who ran these campaigns on any MSNBC show. Or CNN. They pop up like weeds, spouting their expertise. It is easier blaming the debacle mostly on non-college graduates who revel in their ignorance, one-note voters, etc. We insulted many of our own voters. Be gone!

**Edited after the fact, again** Hakeem Jeffries (his office) put out a questionnaire on Facebook; a survey of what we thought of the the issues Dems should focus on, etc. How to go forward. But.  You could not submit it unless you made a donation!  (I want to say "for **** sake" but I gave up saying the F word for Lent)  And grands will be visiting. Yes what is good for Republicans is not good for Democrats. Reps have ran on cultural issues for years.  Repealing Roe and being anti same sext marriage (or anything LGTBQ) being the two most effective ones.  But the reason it worked for them is it appealed to people's wanting to control other people.  But when Dems run on

It is about wanting to be more inclusive and wanting everyone to be treating equally. And for too many people that isn't as important as the price of eggs. And I understand that but the Dems should have been able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

I feel that way about any Democrat whether it's Bernie or Elizabeth Warren or Kamala when they say things like free community college and paid family leave.  They are great policies but have zero chance of becoming a reality. At least for right now.  And I'm smart enough to know that.  But Trump voters hear him say free IVF for any couple that needs it and they start painting the nursery.

@Kemper @tres bien You both should send a letter (or email) to Jeffries, and the DNC chairman, sharing with them exactly what you've written here. Our country is now teetering on the edge of democracy. It's time for the Democrats to start pushing back at the "Moscow Candidate" & his henchmen (can his loyalty to Putin be any more glaring?).  Who are they grooming for midterms and '28 (the only potential strong candidate we've seen for '28 is Pritzker)?

This is true. She is the youngest Justice with Justice Brown Jackson the next youngest. Even Roberts is thinking long term. Alito and Thomas the two oldest and IMO the two most partisan Justices are firmly on Trump's side no matter what he does.  Not only do they most likely agree with him but they know they won't be around to deal with the long term damage he is causing.  ACB has kids and I hope she is thinking about their future even if she isn't necessarily thinking about ours.

To be fair Roberts has been shit on plenty of time by the right when he sided with the Liberals.  He was a fairly reliable swing vote when it was a 5-4 split. He got called a traitor after siding with the Liberals in defending ACA. It was partly why people felt so betrayed after siding the way he did on Dobbs. That said I have no doubt that ACB being female is related to all the hate she's receiving and while I'm no fan it's really disheartening that people are so quick to swing below the belt because she has a thought that didn't fall in line with the Trumpers.

No disrespect, but I just can't see how it's worth sticking with Trump when there could be so many better Republican candidates (and people) to take up those issues that you and many other Republicans are looking to have addressed. I see nothing wrong with being concerned about the American economy - so am I, but punitive tariffs that are going to create havoc and backfire anyway are not the way to do that. And many Democrats are concerned about immigration too, but again, Trump's heavy-handed, racist way of approaching it is again not humanitarian nor is it going to work in the long run.

Just because he got the ear and the emotions of Republicans and was able to convince them that he was the guy that could solve these problems doesn't mean he is, and I think his off-base antics over the last few months more than support that. I think the time has come to cut the cord with this guy and find another. That's what I kept telling my husband and after a while he saw the light himself. At this point even by sane Republican standards, he and his band of "henchmen" like Musk are doing more harm than good.

And to the Dems. reading this, I am realistic in that I don't expect Republicans to ever come around to a more Democratic way of thinking, but at least if we could be dealing with Republicans that are not MAGA Nazi sympathizers we'd be much better off. I don't know if at this point that is a realistic hope but when Trump is gone I sort-of hope for a scene not unlike the one in "The Wizard of Oz" where Dorothy kills the wicked witch of the West with a pail of water and the witch's guards hail and bow to her as their new "queen". Surely there are more sane Republicans out there that are just waiting for that moment to come....We can only hope because if Trump's MAGA continues as the future of the Republican party after he's gone, we're ALL in deep trouble!
