Chit-Chat: The Feels

I'm guessing the Dems want to deal with middle ground swing voters, as opposed to placating their "radical" base. Or maybe AOC is seen with baggage on her name. I can't contact her through her e-mail . . . I'm curious if she's ever bumped shoulders in a hostile way with the likes of MTG and/or Boebert.

I left a short message for my Congresswoman about how no one elected Elon to do anything. She's MAGA and would probably need a "drop squad" of at least seven people to change her mind, but I understand calling people is important.

As a one time student of philosophy, I couldn't agree more with Karl in theory, but it depends on how it's put in practice and how "tolerance" is defined. In my opinion being tolerant of something or someone's behavior doesn't necessarily mean approving of it. We shouldn't defend the intolerant but we shouldn't go all the way to stripping them of their basic rights either. Our intolerance should consist of speaking out against them, not BECOMING them. There's a difference but it's an important one. If they hold intolerant positions and opinions that's one thing, but if they persecute others and strip them of their rights out of intolerance they should be dealt with under the law but not outside of it. No tarring and feathering in the streets just for having an intolerant opinion for example. Another fine line there and just my opinion!

Oh for sure. That's their denial showing.

I just got my monthly statement from my fiduciary, I lost 10K in the last thirty days. Laugh it up Trumpers.

I am afraid to look at mine.

It's incredible.  I know at least some of the answer is "Never underestimate the power of human stupidity."  But I think the main answer is never underestimate the power of hatred.  Far too many of his supporters are fueled by hatred and even if they end up worse off thanks to Trump as long as they think someone else is even more worse off they'll feel he did them proud.

That is very true. They are very happy to make sacrifices if it means they can make whoever they think is responsible for their problems suffer. But that can only lead to more unhappiness in my opinion.

But that’s already happened here, people have said (typed) “I hate Republicans, I’m not giving anyone grace, etc.”  So it’s absolutely directed toward people.

I was saying what I thought people should do here, not what some actually DO. I didn't say anything about the latter.

I paid $4.69 for a dozen large eggs today at Wegmans. Is this a deal (or no deal)?

Well I paid $4.50 the other day at Walmart so I think it's a deal. At my ShopRite they were actually $6.99 today!

I think it is a pretty safe bet that Trump is not a good father.

Adultery has nothing to do with being a good father. Apples & oranges, as you all like to say. All of his kids are well-educated, respectful of their elders, hard-working (not lazy, and extremely supportive of their father.

I think Netanyahu was just trying to placate the crazy guy

If that's the case, why is he doing a world tour? IOW, if he was trying to placate the audience at the conference, it could have ended there. He didn't have to make multiple appearances to the same crowd.

It was Howard Stern, enough said.

And I hope you realize that was Howard playing Howard...to elicit the most outrageous comment from all his guests. BTW, Howard finally came out of the closet, which proves my point.

I can give Trump credit for attempting to find a path toward peace in Korea.  I'll also give him credit for attempting to talk to Putin (when 2 countries have thousands of nukes pointed at each other, I think they should be talking).  And I will give him credit for pushing through the Gaza ceasefire.

Thank you for acknowledging those few items. It gives me hope that eventually we'll be able to come together over some shared responses.

And of course Netanyahu couldn't say enough good things about Trump, Trump was offering to ethnically cleanse Gaza for him.

While that might be true, I wonder what any of us would do if we were in Netanyahu's position?

Costco was completely out of eggs yesterday.  I know it's bird flu causing shortages but it's pretty telling we're already at rationing.

Trump ran on "I'm lowering your grocery prices" won on it and broke that promise first chance he got, he does one defend that?

You can thank the hundreds of Costco shoppers who are hoarding eggs as if they were toilet paper! And as with the TP, this too shall pass.

You really need to give the guy more than 3 weeks to fulfill promises. He's done more in less than a month than Biden did in 4 years. Oh wait, Biden really wasn't running the country now, was he?

We have seen Trump fuck over his wives and other family members. People he hired to work for him.  People enrolled in Trump University.  People who were supposed to get money from his charities.  So why would anyone not think he would fuck over the American people?

Guess the same thing could be said for Bill Clinton and JFK, who fucked any woman with a pulse. Let's not pretend that Trump is the only man to cheat on his wife. Since Jackie is dead, let's ask Hillary.

Respectful of their elders? Ha! Have you just completely missed the awful way some of them have talked about Democrats? Did you miss DJT laughing about Paul Pelosi's attack? Yeah, they are really respectful of their elders.  Hard-working? LOL. What did they ever accomplish that wasn't handed to them because of their family name? What jobs have they ever earned? And they were really hard-working when they fleeced a CHILDREN'S CHARITY.

No, we don't need to give him more than 3 weeks when what he's done already - during his first four years and now - has been so unbelievably horrific. You don't want me to bring out the list of everything Biden did - yes, Biden who ran the country. Everything that he did was positive for the country. He's done more? What exactly has he done? Rounded up immigrants - some who either committed minor offenses or none at all - so he could put them in detention centers so they could be free labor for him? Authorized his goon squad to raid schools searching for those dangerous immigrant fourth graders. Signed worthless executive orders keeping transwomen out of sports (as if that's going to do anything for the country given the monumentally small number of transwomen in sports anyway.) Stripped transpeople of their rights and tried to make them disappear? Given the real president - Musk - unauthorized access to all our information? Boasted about all of the land he wants to steal from other countries? Ordered tariffs - tariffs that would do nothing good - and immediately backtracked when the other leaders just gave him things they were already doing in the first place. Trying to shut down the government so he could try and remake it in his image and fill it with people loyal to him - not to us, not to the Constitution, to him. What exactly has he done to make lives better for the country as a whole? You're right that he's done a lot, but doing a lot of shitty things is not something to boast about.

The comment wasn't even about adultery.

Hmm...let me see, how else would he "fuck over his wives"??

Yeah, there are plenty of additional things to cheating that you can do to fuck over your spouses - like abusing them or stiffing them on spousal support. Also, the comment you quoted wasn't just talking about spouses. It specifically mentions him screwing over other family members and people who work for him. And, of course, him screwing people over with his fake university and his stealing from children's charities - a topic that you sidestepped entirely. But, of course, because zeroing in on adultery is the only way you can go, "See, JFK and Clinton were just as bad." Yeah, they were all cheating assholes, but the two others didn't commit felonies while cheating on their pregnant wives. They didn't cheat children and steal from them.

I just want to take a moment to tell you something.

There are a lot of interesting posts on this thread. Even though I disagree with a lot of it, I like to ruminate and think.  Still, there are 3,4 people who I always look forward to 'seeing'.  I have looked forward to your posts since the near-beginning of this thread.   I wish I would have copied the ones that were deleted (about Gaza/Israel), but almost all your posts about *whatever* are thought-provoking, intriguing, or very funny in some way.

Anyway..........Thank you for posting things that lead me down some very informational rabbit holes.  Seriously.  Thank you for existing.  💜
