Isn't Tiffany Trump a lawyer?

I believe she is, but that would never happen. There is no upside to nominating her. The Republicans in the Senate are going to be thinking about what is good for the party after Trump while Trump only cares about himself. I don't think Trump would have the votes. It would only take a handful of Republicans in the Senate to make Tiffany another Robert Bork which in turn would make a Trump something Donald won't stand, a loser. Eve if that loses is his least favorite child.

Yes I agree.  He seems to favor those most of us would consider elites.  People with money. He should have went after Trump on January 21, 2021.

No, the affluent college-educated left-leaning ones tend to think that. The actual working class [at least the white and male part of it -- the very ones who were once the perceived 'engine' of a socialist revolution] considers the just mentioned as the elite as most people today don't hate the rich, they want to become them.

Look at the 2019 British election where the British Labour party won seats like Kensington but lost seats in former coal-mining areas in the North and Midlands that they'd held since the 1920s.

I don't want to become rich. I don't necessarily hate them but I want them to stop having so much influence. They should not be able to buy politicians.

Joe Biden damaged his own legacy by pardoning his son Hunter when he had promised not to do so. Now he has redeemed himself by commuting nearly all federal death sentences. (He cannot pardon or commute sentences under state law).

But Biden has excluded three federal prisoners from his commutation:

* Robert Bowers, the neo-Nazi who killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018

* Dylann Roof, the white supremacist who killed nine Black parishioners at a South Carolina church in 2015

* Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Islamist who killed three people in the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

I used to be a blanket opponent of the death penalty, but in the age of terrorism I have changed my view: I now think the death penalty should be retained for one crime: "murder committed in the course of an act of terrorism." Terrorists are not criminals in the traditional sense. They are not motivated by greed or personal grievances. They are waging war and should be treated accordingly. Evidently Biden agrees with me.

I know the news is going to focus on the crazy but has Trump said anything positive about any of the US's allies (that aren't right wing verging on fascist)?

Latest Trumpian idiocy is the US is exiting WHO on day one.  He'd leave NATO if he could.  Four years....and thank you again all you Trump voters and the ones who couldn't be arsed to vote.  Thanks so much.

  1. Canada?  Greenland?  Panama?  George Conway on Bluesky asked "What's with all this expansionist rhetoric all of a Sudeten?" and "Instead of the Monroe Doctrine, we now have the Moron Doctrine."  This history major in me got a chuckle out of both those comments.  Especially since I'm sure neither Trump nor Musk got either reference.

The other day I had a co-worker randomly start babbling to me about how Trump was going to lower prices and interest, because our current government just ain't cutting it.

*WF rubs temples until blood is drawn*

You know what? I am not completely devoid of imagination, so, as a thought experiment, let's pretend Trump actually will lower prices and interest*. How sub-humanly selfish do you have to be to want cheaper stuff at the nightmarish cost of the rights and lives of countless human beings? Do you have any idea how much we have to lose? How much we are going to lose? But, hey, gas might be cheaper, so it will all be worth it, right?!

My co-worker can go fuck himself with a piece of glass.

*No he fucking won't. I just felt like reminding everyone.

We nearly had a govenrment shutdown that could've cost a whole bunch of people their paychecks or government benefits at a time when they could really use them, all because of Trump. And he hasn't even taken office yet.

But sure. He's totally going to be good for our economy. He's hanging out with one of the richest people on the planet, but yeah, he totally cares about the struggles of the working class.

I just...the level of delusion with people who think this, I do not get it.

Couldn't even let Christmas happen without this horrible family showing themselves for what they are to the world.  I cannot believe how much I hate these people.

That shows what the Trump family thinks. That everyone and everything is for sale.

You know even if Trump by some miracle or accident did something good he is still going to be remembered as a moron.  His idiocy will always far outweigh anything that isn't stupidity.

This is what bothers me.  That people actually think there is a way to lower prices and Biden and the Democrats have just refused to do it. So yes they are stupid for believing that but it also shows how far gone they are in their delusional hatred of Democrats. Meanwhile they worship a man who proudly says he is going to get the enemy of within, meaning anyone that doesn't support him.

They do not care. They already turn a blind eye to the lives lost during the first Trump term.  How many people wouldn't have died from Covid if Trump hadn't downplayed the seriousness of the virus? Or mocked wearing a mask?  Or didn't give ridiculous advice about injecting yourself with bleach?

I used to have a coworker who was an actual Proud Boy so I totally get it. I never brought up politics but he would and I was always able to shoot down everything he said. During the time between Biden's victory and January 6th he was convinced it was going to go to the House to vote and when that didn't happen he smartly didn't say a word.  BTW you know what his initiation into the Proud Boys was? He stood with a circle of Proud Boys around him who punched him until he could name five cereals.  I kid you not.

I'm not sure he would have pushed for a government shut down if Musk hadn't said it first. I heard someone make the comment Trump thought a shut down would hurt Dems since Biden is still president until someone told  him that people would blame him. And that is why we aren't hearing him threaten all the Reps that voted to keep the government funded. At least till March.

Trump tells the working class what they want to hear. He tells them manufacturing is coming back (it isn't). He tells them coal mines are never going away (they are). He tells them he will lower the cost of groceries (he can't). He tells them they are the "real Americans" and if they aren't doing well it's an immigrant's fault.

At this point anyone who is still part of the original MAGA base is never going to come out of their delusion.  I have read books and watched stories about supporters who would follow him around to every rally.  Like they were a Trumphead or something. For those people who are so devoted to him one of them will have to die before that love affair ends.

I'm surprised or maybe they have and we just haven't heard about it, they haven't changed the pledge of allegiance to be Trump specific.  I pledge allegiance to the flag of Trump's United States of America.........Because you all know Trump thinks people should be loyal to him, not the country.  Or the principles upon it was founded.

In addition to ignoring the issues of the Panama Canal Treaties of 1977  which both our nations signed and agreed to abide by and the internationally recognized sovereignty of the nation of Panama over the area once known as the Canal Zone, I hope someone points to #45 (in front of a live video feed) that the Canal is not only showing its age but it can no longer pin having an endless water supply to keep safely floating the ships traversing it.

Yes, back in 1914, there were constant monsoons that virtually shut down the construction of the  Canal until someone got the idea of damming all that extra fresh water into something called Gatun Lake which could be used to ensure that the Canal would have an endless supply to maintain its locks. No one back then imagined that one day in the future,  despite the Isthmus being between two oceans that the rains wouldn't be so abundant and that, in the last few years, the Canal has had to bar some of the larger and heavier vessels due to there being too little water to safely operate.

But, of course, too many folks surrounding #45 would rather plug their ears and hum than to consider the existence of climate change despite what virtually anyone looking outside a window can see for themselves unless they'd opt to be willfully ignorant so they don't have to admit there's an issue that needs to be dealt with if not tended to.

I'm sure you didn't really expect anything different. I forced myself to listen to some of his crazy babbling on the campaign trail and knew he was going even more off the deep end this time. Unfortunately Kamala telling us that we needed to vote to protect democracy didn't resonate with enough voters and they didn't realize how urgent the situation was. It resonated with me, but a lot of people needed to have a clearer contrast drawn to understand the urgency of voting against Trump.

I can relate. My best friend of 50 years suddenly turned and voted for him. I can't understand it. She has HATED this man for YEARS. I refuse to get into it with her but at times it's hard. I don't have that many friends and zero family left (same for her) so I won't just turn my back on her. She is one of those people that didn't take him at his word about a lot of the crazy shit and filtered it out.

She says she voted for Trump because she didn't have confidence in Biden or Harris to "lower prices". She thought that lowering inflation wasn't enough. Like a lot of people she doesn't know how little presidents can do to actually lower prices. But a lot of people like her out there voted for Trump on that basis and now they're going to have to live with how they fell for his BS and the wacko stuff they refused to take seriously. I am waiting for the day she admits she was wrong - I can feel it coming. She is already showing signs of realizing the mistake she made, especially the stuff with Musk and the cabinet picks. Now she's saying she only hopes Trump doesn't "do that much damage". I am biting my tongue raw.

I think that is a bargain people made with themselves.  Yeah I voted for him but maybe he won't do that much damage.  That is what they are  hoping for. For a lot of them it's I hope he hurts all those other people but I hope I'm spared.

Yet I never heard one reporter ask and what policies are those?

With few exceptions they didn't ask Trump what his polices were. And when they did he answered with a word salad. Concept of a plan anyone? But the media and a significant number of voters kept saying Kamala didn't have policies.  She did have policies but they were more of a concept of a plan and I guess that was too much for them to comprehend.  I remember when Elizabeth Warren was running and she had a plan for everything and people mocked her.  As if being prepared is a bad thing.

Welp, it’s Christmas Eve. Hope you guys are enjoying the holidays. I’m going to try to drown my sorrows in Muppet Christmas Carol and delude myself about Christmas miracles.

I'm going to find something to drown my sorrows in since I'm pretty sure I blew up a relationship last night via a message. I have the best timing...Heh.

I might see if I can find a way to watch the movie Clue. I haven't been able to delude myself about Christmas in a decade at the very least. It always reminds me of who's not alive anymore. I pretend like Thanksgiving and Christmas don't even exist.

It's times like these that I wish I still had safe family to be around. Instead all I have are religious Trump fans who were more than happy to be thanking god first thing in the morning after he won again in November. Seeing that  made me proud of myself that  I cut them out of my life quite a few years ago. Still it gets lonely sometimes. That loneliness isn't bad enough that I'd put myself at risk to be around people like them.

Oh I forgot to add that they were deep into the conspiracist theories about voting machines too.

They came up with that name by bastardizing the late, great Howard Ashman’s “Proud of Your Boy” song from Aladdin (cut from the film but put in the Broadway musical) where Aladdin promises his mother he’ll be a better man. But these fucks believed that men shouldn’t be sorry for anything that they do, and that all women are just bitches.

Exact same thing is happening here in Canada and likely in a most other countries to.  The thing with Trump is I can't decide if he genuinely thinks Presidents do have the power to do the stuff he is claiming he can do or if he knows damn well it's not true and this is all just Trumpian bluster and brag.
