God I hate Trump.  What is the point of his latest nonsense calling our PM a Governor and Canada the 51st state?  Does he think he's being funny?  Or is this a calculated effort to "put us in our place"?  No matter what reason it's not the kind of comment a President should be making about any country, least of all a close ally.   I don't expect any of his supporters to say anything more than "relax he's joking", but that's not the point.

To be honest I won't be surprised if his supporters start thinking Canada isn't an ally.  This is what Trump does.  He causes divisiveness where there shouldn't be any.  He wants people to respect him and having grown up with less than loving parents he thinks fear equals respect.

He has said that people who do things without getting a big pay day are losers and suckers. He wouldn't understand real patriotism.

I've been lucky. I don't know anyone who votes for Republicans. Even when my dad was deep in the throes of Alzheimer's, if he saw Stinky appear on TV he'd go "Oh jeez, that idiot. Change the channel."

The one friend I knew I was a Republican but she wasn't political.  She wasn't religious. She was pro choice. She was LGTBQ friendly. I always thought she was Republican because her dad and then her husband were Republicans.  I started getting a clue she was turning redder when she started complaining about "people" getting things she couldn't get. The things she couldn't get were things she made too much money to get.  Then Covid happened and she really didn't like her barber shop being required to close for a few months. I was glad I had drifted away from her by then.  The second friend had always been apolitical but with a liberal tilt. Until Covid and then she took a hard right. I think Covid brought to light a lot of people's political feelings.

Trump is also doing a lot of braying about how we (Canada) are letting people slip through our borders.  Idiot.  I don't deny this is an issue but what he won't acknowledge is the issue of people illegally crossing the border cuts both ways.  We saw that in full force during Covid with the supporters coming over to egg on the "Freedom" Convoy - we also have a problem with guns and drugs coming across the border, but hey, that's aces as far as Trump is concerned.  Never let it be said that he was prepared to take on anyone else's problems.

Surely there is some uninhabited island somewhere they can all go to.  Trump can be king and the men can be his subjects.

Of course. He wants drugs to stop crossing the border from Mexico into the US but doesn't care that drugs from the US go into Canada. And I guess he doesn't just want all Americans to be armed but Canadians as well.

I lost a friend, the same way.  We used to babysit her, and her sisters - mainly the baby sister - when she was 11/12, and I was 21 or 22. She was the one I got along with the best. We lost touch when her mum suddenly moved them away, and reconnected through Facebook in 2010.

I went through a lot at home, mainly with my sister.  She ended up cutting ties with a few of her family members when she got married.  Her husband, and most of her friends were heavily Republican, hated liberals.  She was pro-choice, and queer-friendly.  She also hated trump, until 2020. I don’t know what changed. Her husband was in the navy, and stationed off NY? I think, when Covid started.  All I know is that when I would occasionally respond to political things on her page, she told her husband and conservative friends, to leave me alone. That I hardly ever spoke up, so when I did, it was over something important.  I really thought of her as family. 😔 until she announced November 2020, that she was voting for trump.  As soon as I expressed shock, and wasn’t supportive of that, she made a couple of passive-aggressive posts, and then blocked me, and others.  I know another one had been one of her closest friends for years.  I recently saw that she’s expecting another child.  That’s all I know about her now.

I just saw a headline for a poll taken where 13% of Canadians say they want us to become part of the US.  Unsurprisingly of that 13% significantly more are male and vote Conservative or even further right.  They don't want to join the US, they want to join Trump Land.

Are they mostly from a certain western province?  I've only seen maps of states that become part of Canada.  :D.

Speaking of the grossness of Fox. From The Express, which could use an editor or two.-

Jesse Watters may have gone a step too far with his latest remark on Fox News.

The  conservative political commentator, who was snubed by his mom at Thanksgiving, left viewers feeling uneasy during Monday's installment when he joked how that he wanted to see more “eye candy” from female Trump appointees.

His bizarre remarks came after The Five aired footage of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. showing off his rather impressive physique in a shirtless workout ahead of his Department of Health and Human Services confirmation hearing.

A bright spot is it does look like Gaetz is definitely an ex-congressman (there was some discussion that he could still end up back in the House) - he's going to anchor a show on a hard right news station that one article I read described as  "little watched ".

So he did what he was accused of and his colleagues in the House had enough proof.

Remember that former young congressman from NC (he was in a wheelchair) who talked about the drug & sex parties some of his fellow representatives attended?  I'm waiting for someone to leak the committee findings.

Yes. Madison Cawthorn. His party dropped him like a hot potato as soon as he started running his mouth. I don't believe the GOP liked him too much to begin with. There were reasons why he won his primary that I can't seem to recall offhand. I do remember him failing up to become a member of the House. He's homeschooled, failed out of the only institute of higher learning that accepts Christian homeschooled kids, and was paralyzed following a car accident where he was driving under the influence.

Yeah, see, this is where, if we had a media worth a damn, we'd hae journalists out there hunting down and exposing all this stuff that the GOP is actively trying to cover up and just plastering it all over every media outlet imaginable*. Not that I'd expect the relase of any of this information to change Trump supporters' minds or anything like that, 'cause it's clear at this point they're all in no matter what. But at least it would be out there, and at least the rest of us who didn't vote for this insanity would know what we're up against here. And if it shook up a few of these GOP members who were desperate to keep this stuff quiet as well, all the better.

*I'd love to see something similar with whatever the hell kind of blackmail Putin must have on Trump/the GOP as a whole to make them so eager and willing to do his bidding.

Regarding that Fox News article...unfortunately, I can't say I'm the least bit surprised, but still. Gross. Also, if they think that's flirting or "being attracted to power", I feel like this explains a LOT about why so much sexual assaut/harassment has happened at that network over the years.

The Trump family is really emblematic of how many lower and middle class Americans view being rich "the right way." Their crassness and garishness makes them "relatable" to them. And Donald's ability to consistently land women who are above his weight class also endears himself to these men. I don't think the American public's fascination with Donald Trump would have happened if Marla Maples was not Playboy material back in the late 80s.

The whole thing about men thinking they can land women above their station makes a lot of sense, but man, I must be one incredibly weird lower-class person, then, 'cause Trump's kind of lifestyle holds zero appeal to me at all. Even if I had a bunch of money, I would not have any interest in living like this. I just want to have enough to ensure that I and my family were financially stable and set and could take care of the necessities, set aside a little for some fun stuff we always wanted to do or places we wanted to see...

..and then the rest would go towards supporting charities and organizations and other important things of that sort. I just do not get this idea that if you're rich you're apparently supposed to to automatically go all out like this, or want to do so.

Watching The Daily Show. They showed “highlights” from the Patriot Awards . . . ending with Trump droning on for twelve minutes, followed by him “dancing.”

You know how people are loving that Luigi guy for committing murder in broad daylight? How much praise would someone get if they set off firecrackers anywhere near You-Know-Who?

I’d ask if that was too far, but I don’t care. Fuck Republicans. Fuck the Christian Conservatives. And fuck Kirk Cameron. We lost Alan Thicke and we’re stuck with that butthole? Boo.

They basically called Dr. Biden a gold digger. The MAGA comments on that photo are even more gross, saying that she’s suddenly remembered what a real man looks like. 🤢🤢🤢🤢 That’s what I really hated about the “Biden is senile” bullshit that goes around the internet: they use it to accuse her of elder abuse. I. Can’t. Even.

The Bidens and the Obamas have great marriages by all accounts, unlike their Dear Leader. And looks like he had to give Guifoyle an ambassador job to make up for Junior dumping her for a younger woman.

Again, it was not just MAGA that won The Men Behind the Man Trump the recent election. Nor in 2016. Trump and Brexit are warnings that have self-provably gone largely unheeded by the non-right political parties and activist movement.

Attempting to shame non-intellectual elite* voters not only don't and didn't work but it seems to have blunted the long-term drift of white affluent suburbanites to the Democratic Party.

*- the college-educated middle class is an elite. You don't need to be monied to be an elite. Regardless of whether your mom was a boilermaker or such.

Of course they get rid of the guy who was talking about the gross things going on but didn't get rid of the gross guy doing the gross things.  And if Trump had had his way he would have been in charge of the Justice Department.

The problem is so many in the media are corrupt too.  From Bob Woodward always holding relevant information till he publishes a book. To NBC not wanting to air Ronan Farrow's story about Harvey Weinstein while knowing their own Matt Lauer was also being accused of sexual misconduct.  To Fox News and their slate of "problematic" on air talent.  And of course the late and not lamented Roger Ailes.

He has gotta have something right?  If not that means Trump and the GOP have sold us down the river for no other reason than greed or stupidity.  Oh wait.....

Watch the movie Bombshell and the miniseries The Loudest Voice in the Room. Both about Fox News and specifically Roger Ailes.  That place was and probably still is a cesspool.  And speaking of Fox News Rupert Murdoch wanted to change (I think) the family trust and have his son Lachlan (who is conservative like his father) have Fox News to himself.  A judge ruled against him and said nope his other three older children get a cut too.

That is rich considering Melania herself has said she wouldn't be with Trump if he hadn't been rich.

Even when he was younger Trump wasn't attractive. His money brought the women to him. And to hear Stormy Daniels tell it he wasn't all that.

Putin has some kind of evidence of Trump engaging in a sexual act that falls outside of what his supporters will allow. I'm not sure what exactly that is since his supporters will excuse away him raping a grown woman and would probably feel the same way about him and a 17 year old girl.

I firmly believe the evidence used to blackmail Lindsey Graham is him having sex with an underage boy. Him being in the closet is the worst kept secret in Washington, so whatever they have on Lindsey is not just that he has sex with men.

The rumor was always golden showers from hookers on a bed the Obamas slept on while in Russia.  That might make Trump think it makes him look weak. That he is in submissive position.  If someone was going to make something up and say that is what  he is being blackmailed with wouldn't you say something that would be illegal?  Not something that is just a kink.

He was in the House when that whole underage page thing happened.  Mark Foley was the only one publicly implicated but who knows if others were involved.

What is that old saying your political career is over if you are caught with a dead girl or a live boy?

And continuing his proud tradition of appointing only the best apparently   Kimberly G. has been named ambassador to Greece - I am surmising as compensation for being replaced by Don Jr. - as the latest hot gossip is that he's been seen holding hands with a new gal.  I just have to ask what did Greece ever do to the Donald that he is subjecting them to Kimberley?

Has he made one nomination or appointment that has not been someone who donated to him or supported his lies about 2020? Has any of them been the best person for the job? Or even qualified for the job? Cronyism. Nepotism. Buying cabinet seats.  Tell me again how Trump was going to drain the swamp.

They are saying Pete Hegseth nomination may have turned the corner.  You know if it weren't for the very real military personnel that would be working under him that he would be responsible for I would hope he gets the job and epically fails at it.
