Both Tues and Wednes shows were really strong. Jordan, Desi, Michael, and Ronny all got solo weeks before Desi and Michael did their tag-team week. If they're keeping this format through the election, I imagine all four of them will have multiple solo weeks and different duo configurations. Maybe we'll get a round of solos for each of them, followed by a new duo, then repeat. ETA I really liked Leslie's piece! She always does a great job, and I continue to like the idea of former guest hosts or other comedians popping in occasionally to shake things up a little. I thought the main theme of the piece was smart, viewing Trump as yet another of the things Americans do even though we know it's bad for us. Also, I'm going to choose that the "I'm probably dying of scurvy" joke was an Our Flag Means Death reference! Edited March 30 by angora 2 1 1 Link to comment
angora April 3 Share April 3 In the interview with Lina Khan, when they were talking about product shortages, I thought it was disappointing that they kind of laughed off the Adderall shortage. Khan laughed when Jon brought it up, and he made a joke about the audience's reaction, noting they seemed to have an "interesting predilection" for Adderall. But ADHDers have been beating the drum on this for a while, emphasizing how hard it can be to function when they can't get access to their prescribed meds, and highlighting that federal agencies don't seem motivated to try and solve it. In articles I've read, they've mainly mentioned the DEA and the FDA, not the FTC, but it still wasn't a great look for the chair of a federal agency to make light of it. 2 Link to comment
possibilities April 3 Share April 3 I agree it's a serious problem and should not be made light of. How I took it was that the audience was not reacting to the infant formula shortage, but was reacting to the adderall shortage, which says something about the audience. In other words, the audience didn't care about the formula, but they did care about the adderall. So... selfish. Link to comment

possibilities April 17 Share April 17 I'm a huge John Leguizamo fan, so was very happy he was on Tuesday night's show. I hope that even if they can't get him (or some of the other people who did a hosting stint) as permanent hosts, they will bring him/them back to do appearances like this. And of course, hooray for Dulce's return. I had no interest in the interview guest, though. That interview seemed like a totally content-free waste of time. 3 Link to comment

iMonrey April 24 Share April 24 For some reason my DVR will not record the Monday shows with Jon Stewart. It's odd. I have it set for series record and when I try to manually schedule the Monday show to record it says it's already scheduled to record but then it doesn't record it. It records all the rest of the week's shows. Just not Monday's. There must be some special designation with the Monday shows the DVR sees as not being part of the regular show. possibilities April 24 Share April 24 My DirecTV DVR has no problem recoding Monday's shows. I would ask your provider for help with this, because it's a weird glitch. Or, maybe remove the show and then re-set it to record. Sometimes that has worked when I've had problems in the past, with recording other shows. I thought last night's show was extremely good start to finish. Jordan and Ronny seem to work really well together. Jordan takes the edge off Ronny so he's less of a randomly and relentlessly one note rageful maniac, and Ronny gives Jordan a little bit more bite. Jordan is good at not losing his shit when he talks to the most obnoxious people, but a steady diet of affable can make him seem a little too tolerant of horror at times. 2 Link to comment
Sarah 103 April 26 Share April 26 They are going with the current format through the election, which I'm okay with. My guess based on pure speculation is that they announce a new host sometime between November and December and the new full time host will take over after the winter break. My question is what the plan is/how will they handle the conventions during the summer? Link to comment
Bastet May 4 Share May 4 (edited) I am behind again, but finally made time to watch Dulce's week. Good stuff, and I hope we'll continue to see her in bursts like this now that she's based in L.A. I loved Josh describing what a jury representing NYC would consist of, and the way he and Dulce cracked up over her suggesting Trump might actually face some consequences. Also Dulce explaining all the trials this isn't, and the one it is ("This is the most complicated plot a porn star has ever been involved in"), concluding with he treats criminal charges like Pokeman, trying to catch all of them. And Jordan doing his usual job letting the MAGA crowd talk themselves into nonsensical corners is always satisfying in the midst of being infuriated (I love the guy who said Trump can't get a fair trial in NY, it would have to take place in the Midwest or the South, immediately declaring "No" when Jordan asked if he'd then accept as valid convictions in the GA or FL trials). John Leguizamo taking a break to beat the shit out of a piñata before continuing when he had to say more Latin voters support Trump than Biden was fun. Josh's face when dying seems to be the only tax-avoidance strategy he might be able to use was also I must laugh to keep from crying fun. To save time, I skipped the interviews, but at one point let an episode run while I was in another room and came back to Dulce talking to Orlando Bloom and saying she doesn't need to look to extreme activities to find her edges; she's a Black woman in America. To Bloom's credit, he immediately said, yeah, all she needs to do is step outside her house. I am beyond thrilled to read I have a Jessica Williams appearance to look forward to as I continue to catch up; she was my favorite correspondent back in her day. iMonrey May 7 Share May 7 So this is new - my DVR recorded Monday's show for the first time, but it was a repackaged repeat with Jordan Klepper. It's so odd the DVR will not record the shows with Jon Stewart - there must be some special designation in the title or description that distinguishes those episodes from the ones hosted by others. Like maybe the Monday show is listed as "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and the other episodes are just listed as "The Daily Show." I really like the new correspondent Josh Johnson, anyway. He's great at dry, straight-faced delivery. 1 Link to comment

possibilities May 18 Share May 18 (edited) Yeah, I agree she's still not a great interviewer. I listened to an interview with Miranda July on some NPR show and it was fascinating and made me really want to read the book. It talked about the research and thought process that went into writing it, and was really interesting. All I got from the one on TDS is: Desi loved it. Ever since Trevor left, I think the interviews have been rushed and half-assed. They are too short, too chaotic, and generally not informative or interesting. As far as I'm concerned, they can just stop having an interview if they aren't going to make it substantive and interesting. Edited May 18 by possibilities Link to comment

Right now I'm skimming through Jordan's week earlier this month, and his delivery on "Hashtag Girl Dad" about Stormy Daniels's testimony that before she had sex with Trump, he told her she reminded him of Ivanka was perfect. As was telling right wing media to hold their heads up high on putting their feet down against shooting your dog (until Trump does it, and then every Republican will have to do it too in order to stay in the party) -- and then go back to their regularly-scheduled segments calling for tossing migrant kids into the Grand Canyon. And "Maybe your dog was trying to rig the election, or into DEI"? I didn't think anyone could get me to laugh at anything about killing a pet, but he did it. KEN BUCK SEASON 29 E 53 • 06/03/2024 Jon Stewart loses it Spoiler over complaints about Donald Trump's guilty verdicts and the value of the court system, and former Rep. Ken Buck debates the precedent set by Trump's trial. I kept alternating between: wondering if we should be worried about Jon having a medical emergency if he continues being so apoplectic, and: whether Ken Buck’s long yellow tie was off-the-rack or bespoke? and: was it deliberately draped to show its full length on camera? and: was the yellow tie supposed to appear obviously, measurably longer than you-know-who’s red tie? and: Are long ties some sort of symbolic male measuring/comparison statement? and: if so, do only men of a certain group use long tie signifiers in this manner? 1 Link to comment

But I don't understand them, given the daily barrage of WTF?! examples of a completely and demonstrably false narrative being widely accepted and ineffectually refuted by those whose duty it is to do so, and an ongoing blatant assault on democracy.
