I finally decided that avant-garde means "You can wear this to the Met Gala."

That’s probably the best comparison. I don’t think there is anything on the MET red carpet that is meant to be worn anywhere else, since there is a theme every year. Award ceremony red carpets could conceivably translate to evening ready to wear

Law seems like he would prefer the emphasis be on “celebrity” in celebrity stylish and his sour personality doesn’t help push that outcome. That said I don’t mind when someone feels they can say whatever the hell they want. Brittany’s was streetwear and others were heavily referential. These people don’t need coddling and the runway is for JUDGEMENT!

Elaine still grates and adds nothing to the show

Laurence's was so in her wheelhouse, it took me a minute to remember what she did. Oh, yeah, a Chanel knockoff. The silver shiny fabric she used as the inside top of the skirt made me think of unpopped Jiffy Pop.

I am so over her.  She feels really unoriginal to me, just pulls together something she's seen somewhere that kinda fits the challenge.  She's good at tailoring, she should align with another designer and just focus on that. Play to your strengths.

I love Laurence. I don't know why I do, but I do. I think it is her don't give a fuck attitude about the whole thing.

At this point I'm team anybody but Brittney. I don't really have a good reason to not like her. There's literally nothing wrong with her. I didn't like her long sleeved thing because it reminded me of an episode where someone else did the mile long sleeves with belts and straps.  I can't for the life of me remember who because I just binge watched the entire series in the last couple of months so they've all kind of run together.

I think with Avant Garde challenges, they run the risk of being "too costumey." (And by too costumey I mean in the judges eyes, not in real life.) From that link shared above, there is a fantastic evil queen outfit. I could see if the designers did something similar (although not nearly as fantastic given the time constraints) it being dinged for being a costume.

Bummer! I love Rami and his relationship with Christian. I really wish he was in and Britney was out. I swear, I feel like puffer coats should be banned on this show. There is no "fashion" left to be mined from that. If I can buy a version every single year from Old Navy for $20, it's not fashion. Everyone needs to move on.

Another thing that can be banned - the avant garde challenge. Nobody knows what the hell that means, including the judges. Just stop.

Now that Rami is out, I don't care who wins.

And please, can Elaine just go? She is the worst.

Oh, all of a sudden the judges decided Rami's puckering and wrinkles matter? This week they merit the death penalty, when last week they were no barrier to the win?

Rami is a class act. Really a delightful human being, and sexy too IMHO. But he didn't do great work this season, and especially not in the last two weeks. These are veterans; they should have some idea what they can execute decently in the given time and what they can't.

Brittany has grown on me with her consistent positive attitude toward everyone. I appreciate it when the designers have a recognizable signature, and athleisure is as valid a genre as evening wear.

just how I feel. And I'm on the "what the hell was that win about anyway" side. I really haven't been impressed by Rami's work.

Brittany: Law Roach has styled so many celebrities - Zendaya, Kerry Washington

Me: Okay, 2.

Then I listen to his opinions and...yeah, no. I liked CFDA guy better.

I never identified with Brandon Maxwell so much as when he said he went up X number of floors and then had to go back down and get out of there. Props to the camera crew for not letting themselves be seen - that took some work.

And he was basically ignored — the guy from the foundation that will drop a lot of time and money on mentoring one of these people.

I feel for Brandon. I get queasy even thinking about heights — double that for those buildings that have the glass floors. Nope.

I too like Laurence.  I think she is just naturally reticent and in a profession when so many of the participants have over the top, larger than life personalities she does come across as somewhat aloof.  I do believe she cares but I also think she has a strong opinion of what her aesthetic is and she isn't overly interested in stepping outside of that, even if it costs her in the end.  Honestly I thought her design this week came closest to avant garde without being tacky (I'm sorry - love Bishme but thought his purple vinyl was garish and definitely leaned towards costumey).  I honestly thought Brittany would go this week with her nothing design - I thought her coat looked like a sleeping bag, the color was bleh and the sleeves were ridiculous (and I even like her...LOL!).

I've seen much more interesting avant garde designs in past seasons.  I thought this year's designs fell short of the mark.

I seem to recall a few seasons back that at least one of the judges criticized some of the avant garde designs by declaring that they weren't wearable/where would someone wear it and ever since then the designs have been much 'safer.'  Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the disappointing avant garde designs are reflective of the judges and how they do and don't make decisions.

There were glorious designs in the past (Christian and Chris March among many, many others), but now they are just more 'meh' than memorable IMO.

This was THE MOST BORING avant garde challenge. Note to the show runners: while architecture is cool, all gray buildings do not inspire beautiful clothing. I don't want architectural clothing in avant garde. I want color and flow. This was so blahhhhhhhh.

I think I am done with this show. Who are these hacks that they are choosing as judges???? How can Rami's be avant garde but Brittany's isn't??? How many times can Laurent not do what the challenge directly called for and skate on by with a "you need to address the challenge" but Brittany gets smacked down for what they don't think is avant garde? How the heck is Laurent's avant garde??

So much more could be said about the attitudes and hatefulness of Korto and Laurent, the non-objectivity of the judges, and so on. Any show that makes me want to scream this much can't be good for me.

I was never under the impression that avant garde was meant to be “wearable” — it was to push the envelope. Also, of all fashion genres, avant garde is the most subjective.

I think avant garde is too broad a subject for PR because of the judges, and sets up a lot of good designers to fail.

The quality of judging seems to be sucking more with every season, another reason to move on from this particular challenge.

Mimi's superpower is her "cat that ate the canary" look. She always looks like she knows something delicious that you don't. It's in the eyes. Tyra would approve.

I did appreciate having a native speaker say avant garde! Somehow it's less pretentious that way. I haven't always been a fan but this time I liked Laurence best. By a mile.
