What the FUCK was that with Nate and Maddy?! That was dark and traumatic even for this show. I'm struggling to see how they're going to end his arc this season in a way that doesn't involve suicide/homicide, which I feel like they'd never do because they'd never write off Jacob Elordi. No one who is that psychologically unstable can just go about regular life again, but I guess he...will? The writers seem to be trapping themselves in a corner for shock value. I thought he might kill Cassie in the last scene. I wish they had explored Jules/Nate more this season. It's the most interesting relationship he has and much more compelling than 80 scenes of Cassie throwing tantrums over him.

This show has corrupted me so badly that I was convinced Nate and his mom would kiss, as well as Maddy and Minka Kelly in the pool.

This episode gave me a sinking feeling that the reason why Fez/Lexi is such a slow burn is because the writers want to milk the Romeo/Juliet tragedy angle and kill Fez off at the end of the season. There just has to be a cynical reason why they're so wholesome because no one is allowed to be happy on Euphoria.

Thankfully someone finally recognizes Gia has been on an emotional island for years. Ali's a good dude.

Kat and Ethan are just cringey to watch. What a waste of excellent chemistry in a nonsensical storyline.

Ok, maybe this will be an unpopular opinion but the scene with Nate and Maddy didn't bother me so much because their relationship has always been dark, and toxic, and she's as psycho as he is. She was planning to use that cd to blackmail him and for revenge, and he did what he had to do to get it back. The gun wasn't loaded. I think maybe they are finally, seriously, done. I sure as hell hope so. Cassie, well she is just pathetic and who knows what she's in for.

I agree it was finally nice to have them show Gia as a real person and not just a prop crying about Rue.

I fear for either Fez and Ash. Can't Fez and Lexi be happy for a little while before it goes to shit. They are so cute.

The thing with Maddy, using that gun on her was totally unnecessary. I think she would have given the disc to Jules herself and wish she did. They are friendly now and Maddy can be very good to people who she considers friends. Speaking off, I hope she gets even with Cassie and Nate.

They really should have done more with Kat and Ethan, even if that was the end of the relationship scene. I did like they kept Ethan as a decent guy and not a "nice guy." It would have been a better look on Kat if she was honest, though I think she was telling the truth to an extent when she stated she thought there was something wrong with her.

Was like 4  minutes of Rue staring at that candy and trying to open it.  She finally opened it after Ali accepted her apology?

So there's a decent person under there beneath the monstrous addict?

Scene in the kitchen of Nate and Marsha seemed like a bonding moment but she was telling him repeatedly that he was demented and she doesn't know why.  It was unreal, them sharing drinks, an underage teen and his mother, while Cal's piss was still on the foyer floor.

All their parents seem to believe that these kids are still underage but they're mostly grown up so let them live their lives, even though it's under their own roofs.

Sure knows Cassie is messed up too but she doesn't try to stop her from going off with that psycho.

Minka Kelly, who looks smoking, treats Maddy like one of her girlfriends, having the type of conversation a grown woman might have over drinks with other women.  She apparently didn't invest in a security system or else Nate might not have been able to have his little late night visit in Maddy's bedroom.

I don't even remember what Nate did in season 1 but he's like some 18-year old criminal mastermind, figuring out exactly how he's going to terrorize Maddy.  He probably thinks Maddy will leave him alone, even though now he and Cassie are going to cohabitate and probably humiliate Maddy.

Fez and Ash think they have nothing to worry about, while the other dealer is a park to the cops about the guy Ash killed.  Meanwhile, Lexi the good daughter is over at the drug dealer's place, where an actual murder occurred, holding hands with the drug dealer who beat up Nate.  Again, alert parenting.

But the most incredible thing in this episode is that Jules still has a laptop with a DVD drive.

It just dawned on me how much Nate’s mom and Laurie, the disabled lady drug dealer resemble.  They could be sisters.  The same goes for Cassie and Faye.

I dislike Maddie and Nate so much that I don’t care what they endure or succumb to.

Allowing a child to detox at home is ridiculous. I can’t believe any doctor would have condoned that. Especially, when another minor child is in the home.  Their mom is destroying Gia’s childhood.  She needs more than a few words of instruction.  The inability to get Rue into rehab seems nothing but a contrivance to keep Rue doing drugs. Yawn….  I really can’t stand that character now.  I’d prefer to see more of Lexi, Fez, ans Jules.

Kat was just acting like an idiot.  I used to like her. She sort of has a wasted storyline now.

How is it possible that with his high standards Nate is attracted to Cassie?  She’s sort of lost it and it doesn’t  appear that she has good hygiene.

What year is this thing set? They use a DVD and a CD.  ?

Whats up with the camera in Minka Kelly's wardrobe clock?  Then later at Maddie's house on the wall behind her is a sign that says "Smile, you're on camera".  Nate was spiraling and now he's even worse.  Cannot figure out why he is making any of the choices he is.

I’ll have to rewatch for those cameras.

Ref. Nate….he does that stuff due to crazy writers.  If you listen to them talk about it, it’s all so wonderful….uplifting, bringing us so much In forgiveness and hope.  They are full of it.

So Nate says to Jules something to the effect of "I meant everything I said to you"...which I assume are the things he said to her at night, in the park after the carnival in season 1???

Jules said something in response that I didn't quite hear...was it "I meant it too"?????

Will Nate become fixated with Jules soon? I don't think he has any interest in a "relationship" with Cassie. She's just a toy to him.

I absolutely love Lexi. She can do 1000% better than that clown Fez. She has enough rotten people in her life.

I think it was also the stuff he texted to her when he was catfishing her as Tyler.

Well this was dark and from what I saw of the leaked two episodes following, it will get darker. I don’t know how people enjoy this show before bed on Sunday night.  It always keeps me up with anxiety.

Cassie…I don’t know have any empathy for her.  I know we are supposed to…but I have lived my life knowing there are lines you don’t cross.

Nate is legit dangerous.

Rue’s situation is difficult to watch.  Zendaya’s acting is on point.

Like I said before, I wish they did more with her and Ethan. Hopefully, with distance between the two of them, she will see that Ethan was a good guy, but not the guy for her and let him know. I think she knows that other than her not feeling it with him in a romantic way (which is a valid reason), there is no reason to break up with him and wants him to be toxic, just because of her general contempt for men. However, I think there was a ring of truth when she said they were was something wrong with her, just in a psychological sense, not physical. Not too long ago, Billie English spoke out against porn because she felt it warped her brain. I think the highly sexualized environment she immersed herself into twisted her as well.

It was interesting that there really was so little of Zendaya in this episode.

I am glad that someone is finally looking out for Gia.

Nate totally terrified me. I was also grossed out that no one had cleaned up Cal's pee in the house.

Cassie reminds me of those girls who put all their esteem into being able to attract guys. Cassie is very pretty but you can tell she has no self-worth.

I sometimes have anxiety on Sunday when I start to plan my work week and this show does not help.

The acting is spot on.

Nate is absolutely terrifying.  Yes Cassie has no self worth which is terrible for her but plenty of people with no self worth place value on their friendships and family.  She doesn't just have low self esteem.  She's manipulative, scheming and treacherous.

Also Rue apologizing to Ali but not her family is so effed up I don't know where to start.  You don't remember what you said but you see the door you knocked down, you see the sh*t you broke. Maybe apologize for it

This is where Rue the jerk is separated from Rue the addict, whether you meant things you said if you hurt someone...you apologize.

Only thing they showed is Kat wants to be ravaged by a Dothraki chief or something.

So some alpha male type.

She's young so she may want to explore.

But are guys beating down the door to get with her?

Wasn't she doing some dominatrix thing with older men online?  Those don't meet her ideal either.

They said in the Inside the Episode thing that Nate is trying to be different than the loveless relationship his parents had when he takes in Cassie.

The way they portray her, Maddy won't take that lying down, even though she was terrorized by Nate.

I agree that Cassie loves being messy and self esteem issues does not excuse bad behavior.

Rue does seem to take her family for granted. They are very loving and supportive towards her. Cassie’s mom even says that Rue is a good girl.

Yes Cassie is fairly casual about betrayal.

Rue's accountability doesn't extend to her family for some reason.  She can also be extremely selfish.  She says herself.  I have no intention of being clean.  There are tons of addicts trying to be clean who slip and use.  Rue was not even attempting.

Agreed.  I hear people say well she's an addict but I understand that affects personality but I feel like when she's not on a drugs she's not a good person.  Like the way Ali acts sober, you can tells he's a good person.

Rue practically owes an apology to everyone.   I don't remember what I said.  You don't remember gaslighting your worried sister about fake pot use

We all know that the kids are all messed up, but none of the adults are coming off much better, except for Rue's mom and her sponsor, who are at least trying. Nate's mom especially is one hot mess, she was so happy about Nate strangling his girlfriend that even Nate seemed freaked out. Then she starts asking why Nate is the way that he is, you can really see why he has issues. Him breaking into Maddy's room with a gun was terrifying, even if he never intended to do anything but scare her and get the disc back. The two of them need to stay far away from each other, they're messed up enough as individuals, but together? They're going to be voted Most Likely to Die by Murder/Suicide in the yearbook.

I am really glad someone finally checked in with poor Gia and told her it was alright to be mad at her sister. Its rough for her, she clearly really loves Rue and doesn't want to be mad at her, but she still is. Rue needs a much longer apology tour after this is done, she hurt a whole lot of people in just her one sprint last week.

I wish they explored Kat's issues with Ethan more, but then I usually find Kat to be underused. I think its implied that, because she has been so deeply into this really heavily sexualized internet content for so long that she doesn't really know what to do with a real nice boy and a real nice relationship, but I wish they had explored it more. I would have taken that over more scenes of Cassie sobbing on the ground about Nate and how none of this is her fault.

While I think that the Lexi and Fez scene was cute, I am still missing more context. How do we go from one full converstation, to the store scene where they hardly said a word to each other to Lexi going to Fez's house and them being so comfortable with each other and him holding her hand? We are missing moments between the store scene and the couch scene in this episode. I guess we are meant to assume that they have been talking for a few weeks off-screen, but it would have been nice to actually see it on-screen. Maybe we will get some flashbacks of moments later. I think the writers did not expect a lot of fans to love them so they invested very little in them, but why is this relationship happening? Maybe there will be more in season 3...

I don't know if Rue is serious about getting clean this time, but she has a number of people who she needs to apologize to. It was nice of Ali to also see Gia's point of view and how Gia also needs love and this is difficult for her to watch as well. The ending scene with Rue's Mum was sad, you can hear her desperation, it was odd though that Rue was rejected more help by professionals.

That Maddy and Nate scene was dark, but it was not unusual for the show and for their relationship. The thing is that Cassie knew that Nate was abusive to Maddy, there literally had been a converstation in season 1 where Kat called Nate abusive and Cassie was there and she must have also heard other stories and the way she is acting now... Is she really so desperate for love? And I don't think Nate actually loves her. Like someobody said somewhere, Nate does not love anyone, he only loves power and control. I think this is going to lead to Nate abusing Cassie...

So, Nate gave the tape to Jules. Nate needs to stay away from her, he needs to stay away from everyone but he also does make a good antagonist.

Lexi may be setting herself up to be collateral damage since that home may not be safe.

The Nate and Maddy scene, you wouldn't expect from high school kids.

Sure maybe a psychopath in his 30s at least.  That's why I don't buy Nate as this streetwise criminal who can break into places.  In the first season, wasn't it some guy's crib?  It's one thing for him to break into Maddy's room, since he's been there.

But where does he formulate these schemes?

He should be busy with school and football.  I thought he was some big prospect so he'd be talking to college recruiters, visiting colleges and so on.

Football season is done at this point- it should be around February/March of 2019. In the real world, Nate would have already been committed a to a college by now but I really wouldn't put it past this show to decide "Oops, Nate's really only a junior" or "Oops, Nate has to repeat a year" so they can keep him around for a third season even though he really should be gone off to college.

This show has an interesting (and narrow) timeline. If you remember, season one started in summer, right before the start of school. Rue was born a day after 9/11/2001 and she is 17. That makes the beginning of Season 1 right around Rue's 17th birthday, September of 2018. The season progresses in the fall of 2018 and ends right before Christmas of 2018. Remember the special two episodes between seasons that featured Rue, Ali and Jules were set during the Christmas holidays. Remember that Season 2 Episode 1 was on New Years Eve, going into 2019. In the newest episode, a close up shot of a cellphone had the date of February 17th. I don't remember if there was a year there, but it would obviously be February 17th of 2019. So the entire arc of the Euphoria story from S1 E1 through the most recent episode is only a period of 4.5 to 5 months, from Aug/Sept of 2018 to February of 2019.

What is amazing is that the show premiered in June of 2019, which will be THREE years four months from now. There was a huge amount of time from the filming of seasons one and two. It's a really good thing that the actors playing these teens are in their 20's, so there is no major change in their looks. Not so much for the younger characters. The actors playing Ashtray and Gia look a lot older than they did in season one. Those goofball twins, who I think were related to McKay, haven't appeared at all this season. I'm sure they look substantially older compared to season one as well.

February of 2019 is also 13 months before Covid-19. With the current pace of the show, maybe they will get to that by Season 5!!!!

If Maddy had ANY intelligence at all, the stunt Nate pulled with the gun should end things once and for all. She should use Rue's, "Your dead to me" line with Nate and have absolutely nothing to do with him going forward. That will not likely happen because she is not smart at all.

Wow. Minka Kelly looks absolutely amazing. It was as if a 22-year old Lyla Garrity was dropped into Euphoria.

It's kind of similar to Cobra Kai, which is also taking place in a narrow timeline even though they just finished 4 seasons. The show timeline is a roughly August 2017 to May 2019 as of now. It doesn't look so obvious with the older characters, but they basically kept the younger LaRusso child out of the picture until this season where they had him show up and explain that he had a "growth spurt" to explain why he looks so different.

No, that happens your whole life.  Figuring out relationships is something most people do their whole life.  This isn't about figuring relationships, its about betrayal.  There is nothing to figure out there, it's just wrong.   I am not going to minimize how wrong it is because of her age.

Season 5?  Lol The prospect of that is so depressing.  I’m not impressed with season 2 so far.  Unless, there’s a big turn around, I think this is my last season.  It’s just too dark for me.  And, I’m annoyed that Nate and Rue are indispensable characters. No matter what, they will remain and I don’t like either character.  Nate’s especially infuriating.  It might have worked better if he was really hurt in the beating and had to go through grueling rehab and underwent personal growth dealing with disabilities.  But, I guess sociopaths don’t change, whether they’re in high school or not.

She literally looks exactly the same.

From Vanity Fair -

show creator Sam Levinson] said, ‘I want you to be the older, wiser version of [Maddy],’” Kelly says in a phone call. “I was like, ‘Yes, please! I love that. I see so much of myself in this girl.’”

Minka Kelly sees a lot of herself in Maddie?  Yikes.  Maybe she just said that because that is the standard line actors say in interviews.

show creator Sam Levinson] said, ‘I want you to be the older, wiser version of [Maddy],’” Kelly says in a phone call. “I was like, ‘Yes, please! I love that. I see so much of myself in this girl.’”

Minka Kelly sees a lot of herself in Maddie?  Yikes.  Maybe she just said that because that is the standard line actors say in interviews.

Of course it is wrong, but not uncommon.  People make mistakes.

Yeah agreed but her mom and her sister are right to call on this behavior.  The only way she’s going to change is by acknowledging it was a mistake that she chose.

So do I. Last season ended with them being in a good place, and now she can't stand him. I wrote before that I think it's because Ethan's too vanilla for her. Given her Dothraki fantasy, Ethan is clearly not that kind of guy. I would've liked to know what changed between then and now, but I also have to remember that they're in high school, so the odds of it being a long-lasting relationship was already nil.

I feel like they should have scrapped the whole storyline with her after she fought with the show creator, rather than push whatever scraps of a storyline this is.

Oh, I just looked this up. If the rumor is true, then this haphazard storyline reflects it. I like how Sam Levinson is on his Tyler Perry shit and writes everything. This is yet another example of why shows need writers rooms.

I have no interest in the show trying to explain why Nate is the way he is. He's an effing psychopath who will never have to account for his actions (see: he didn't choke Maddy because she dropped the charges). So he just needs to die. Let Ashtray do it.

I feel like Nate gets away with a lot of what he does because he is so gorgeous.

He would not be my type but would have plenty of girls crushing on him in my High School.

His looks plus the dark triad are like catnip to girls with daddy issues.

Pretty privilege is real.

She apparently didn't invest in a security system or else Nate might not have been able to have his little late night visit in Maddy's bedroom.

Maddy was in her own home.

Nate must be a master spy. This is the second time he surprised someone by sitting in their apartment as they walk in.

That urine is still on the floor. How nasty.... All these shows that is set in a small town or community all have one family where the head

owns half the town and runs everything. Riverdale, the old Smallville show, and even Euphoria with Nate's dad.

A nice episode that spent some time with all the major characters and where they are.

Show doesn't leave much room for McKay. He was just there in the 1st year for Cassie.

Might have to change the cast because how long can these 25 year old continue to play high school juniors and seniors.

The Maddy actress (Alexa Demie) is 31! Zendaya is small enough to pull it off for now.

Fez was forced to grow up fast and never had a childhood or teen age life like the others. So, this is his chance now with Lexi.

You might think for a tough drug dealer to be so soft like that with Lexi....

Now YouTube has these videos of therapists and sociologists and their take on each character, the daddy issues, the boyfriend stealing, etc.

These academics want to be hip by commenting on pop culture and the show, Something like physicists and engineers giving their take on

Star Trek technology, Supeman's powers and so on.

I could see Nate’s parents letting him drink with them- they seem like the type that don’t care if their teens casually drink at home.  I did find it realistic that both parents have a pretty good idea who Nate is as a person. They did raise him (not like he was raised by a nanny or a grandparent) and although he’s their son and they don’t like it, they aren’t in denial about his flaws. They both knew he choked Maddie.

Minka Kelly’s character inviting Maddie, her teenage babysitter to have a drink and a swim with her was weird. I looked up to a woman I babysat for in HS (we are all still close and I consider her extended family along with her husband and kids) but she never would’ve invited me to DRINK with her!

I agree. Nate’s already a guy that catfished someone, and then tried to blackmail them with their own nudes and threats of child sex abuse material conviction.

What didn’t surprise me was his “I’m sorry” afterwards. Because he’s a completely self centered person. I do believe he was sorry, he didn’t intend to terrorize her, his intent was to get the disc back and if he had to so be it.

Absolutely.

Nate is a tall, physically fit, facially attractive, heterosexual, financially affluent white male. He also has a modicum of intelligence- a person with those attributes could use their privilege to do a lot of good, or a LOT of evil. Even if he wasn't a total ass, he wouldn't have to do "much" to be seen as the best thing since sliced bread. Add that to his negative personality traits, and you have a powder keg of entitlement and lack of consequences for bad choices.

I thought he might kill Cassie in the last scene. I wish they had explored Jules/Nate more this season. It's the most interesting relationship he has and much more compelling than 80 scenes of Cassie throwing tantrums over him.

I don't disagree, but Nate wants a woman to throw tantrums over him. Jules isn't impressed with him. She was impressed with TYLER.

Jules constant parroting of "I love you" to Rue really pissed me off. I can't think of anyone who is more of a destructive influence on her. Jules is not only confused about transitioning - telling the therapist there are doubts about continuing with it - but Jules is first and foremost, a whore who bangs anonymous men for money, men who are also very confused about a lot of things so not exactly what I'd call a healthy influence, by any stretch of the imagination!!!

Did she rat Rue out because she was jealous of Rue and Elliot? Not that they were doing drugs together but plain old-fashioned don't fuck my girlfriend jealousy?!!!!

And what's with that psycho Laurie locking up her fucking house like Fort Knox?!! I guess that what comes with being a disgusting skank drug pusher. She grosses me out with that blank stare and dull flat inflection. And for how long did she intend to keep her there?!! A day? A week? Isn't that then called "kidnapping" and it's a federal offense?!!
