Carey September 17 Share September 17 One key item I left out (that sorta defends the move to swap Georgia & Texas): Ewers exited the game. Good thing the Longhorns' schedule is not brutal, but seeing Manning play wasn't a bad thing TBH Link to comment
Carey September 21 Share September 21 While I'm not certain that the keywords "March Madness" was trending within the past hour, one could still locate everything you need to know (or watch) as it relates to a matinee that had North Carolina hosting James Madison. A simple search with those 2 keywords should do the job Link to comment
Carey September 22 Share September 22 There is one rather significant change in The Rankings that I'll get to in a minute, but no movement within the Top 4 (Texas and Georgia tops in the AP Poll & the Coaches Poll, respectively) and Tennessee is a Top 5 team. The Mizzou fell big despite their outcome. Thinking it through, it's not a shocker that they dropped out of the Top 10 in both rankings. Despite the outcome in the North Carolina game, the ACC isn't that bad. It is still early; Clemson is fine I suppose. They have a better excuse for their lone loss than UNC does. Miami and Louisville are rolling so far. California, an ACC team, ended its undefeated streak on the opposite coast with Florida State ending its winless streak. Pittsburgh is pretty much within the Top 30 with their votes total Top 5 amongst non-ranked teams. Either way, I think the Atlantic Coast Conference might be okay for now in terms of being ranked below a Group of Five winner 2 Link to comment
Stats Queen September 22 Share September 22 (edited) Welcome to the SEC, Oklahoma. Wow, they were shellacked, I was expecting a tighter game. Pros and cons for all this conference realignment and expansions. I think either Washington State or Oregon State will be the PAC-12 champions 😜 Edited September 29 by Stats Queen Link to comment
Carey September 29 Share September 29 The last Saturday in the month of September did not disappoint. Well, maybe it did if a team you were rooting for didn't get the job done, but it was tremendous. Helps if you had no rooting interest. For me, a team I went "all in" for didn't deliver, but I still enjoyed the day. It was a great weekend for College Football, with the outcome resulting in significant movement within the Rankings. The Coaches Poll finally moved Texas into the top spot, which coincides with the AP Poll vaulting Alabama to the top spot in their rankings. After saying Utah sucks, I'll mention that both Top 10 rankings are identical except for the top 2 spots between Alabama & Texas. Despite Georgia dropping, they are still in the top 5. Arizona is the "first team out" of the Top 25. At least in the AP Poll. The Coaches rankings actually has Boise State in that spot. Pittsburgh is 27th in both. Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Miami, Mizzou, and Michigan round out the top ten. Chaos pretty much helped the U. I loved how Nick Saban was business as usual around the point where Bama was on pace to win 224-0, and he's not even the coach anymore. He knows, and he knew. What looked like a great game on paper was headed to a rout, and then from there it was interesting & fun again. Probably helped that Penn State/Illinois was on opposite the game of the week 1 Link to comment

I know there's a lot of Saban hate out there, but not for us, so I'll just say that we're really enjoying seeing him on College Gameday, and other assorted shows, and seeing how relaxed he is now. He looked very stressed last season while on the sidelines, and we were concerned for his health, so I'm glad he's found his niche and can spend more time with his family, all while keeping a toe in the football scene. He & the other Gameday hosts were talking about the pitfalls with the NIL and the transfer portal. He's all for players making money, but it was interesting listening to him & the guys talk about how that can be made better, and how it could benefit the players, the schools, and the fans that support these programs. I think they're all concerned that if this spirals out of control, they could lose a lot of the fans. He said that some of these guys are losing their scholarships by jumping from team to team. It is so important to him that the players graduate from college. As he said, "the grass isn't always greener over the septic tank." The Bama/Georgia game was one for the books! We don't usually play the Dawgs unless it's for the SEC Championship or the NC, so playing them the 4th game out was quite a challenge. Plus, Bama finally got to play them at home. Bama will have a lot to learn from the 2nd half of that game, but we were pleasantly surprised at the progress they've made the past month. I really wasn't expecting that kind of game! We take nothing for granted though. There are great teams out there and a lot of football left to play. It's been an interesting season so far. YMMV! 1 Link to comment

Although I don't watch "studio" shows as much these days, when I can, I'll catch something. He is tremendous on Game Day. While I mean no disrespect toward Coach Lee, Game Day will be fine going forward. Not too long for Pat and Nick, but I can see both on the show for the next 5 years or so. Speaking of which, it was refreshing 2 years ago when McAfee showed up full time. Gave the show much needed energy. With Saban, you have modern analysis as he is the most recent person that was in the sport. So that adds more to what Gameday added in 2022 1 Link to comment

My only gripe about McAfee is that he's a bit over the top at times. He needs to dial it back a notch!! He needs to quit climbing on that unsteady chair too. If he had fallen and hurt Ms. Terry, oh, that would've been bad given that he was in front of a sea of Bama fans who would probably walk through fire to help her! 7 minutes ago, Carey said: With Saban, you have modern analysis as he is the most recent person that was in the sport. I enjoy having the input of a former coach on set, especially since it's Saban! His commercials are so funny! I liked hearing Coach Chizik when he was with the SEC pre & post-game show. Carey October 6 Share October 6 The thing is we're in the autumn version of March Madness. So in my opinion we'll see a boatload of these going forward. Tennessee & Alabama can afford a loss, whereas teams like Vandy & Arkansas can't forget about teams like Kentucky & Oklahoma State. If they do then they'll always have their championship moment, whereas the new era of football allows for the best to lose once or twice & still play for a title 2 Link to comment

Carey October 6 Share October 6 Normally I usually do a pretty substantial "recap" as it relates to the rankings, but that might happen later if at all. It will take time at the very least. Even though massive carnage is more expected later on in the penultimate month of a calendar year, it can happen early too. Not to this degree, at least it's not expected. However, to be brief Texas is (back) on top. Ohio State follows, and quite frankly, those were the best 2 teams TBH since Day One. No, Alabama didn't fall out of the rankings, but USC did! Michigan survived in terms of the rankings, but barely 2 Link to comment

Carey October 13 Share October 13 Roamyn, I think you're fine right now. Ohio State will be one of final 12 when all is said & done. Until proven otherwise, and that takes a collapse (which isn't easy since many teams that would benefit finds ways toward saying "no thank you"). Even with 2 more losses just win in the postseason and there you go. Just as long as it doesn't occur at the end of next month there's nothing to worry about. Oregon probably doesn't lose again. We'll see how they play against the champs, but I'm not seeing them lose twice before the end of next month. Pennsylvania State University hosts the Buckeyes which would have meant nothing to them had they failed to escape after losing on Saturday. Finally, we'll see what happens with Indiana, but that'll help if OSU wins out, with the game being at the Horseshoe, I believe. 1 Link to comment
Chit Chat October 13 Share October 13 Quote Alabama football feels like I’m watching a terrible Scooby Doo episode… And just any minute now, someone is going to rip the mask off Coach DeBoer, only to find out it’s Will Muschamp or Jimbo Fisher. That's funny! It's frustrating, for sure. We've heard that the Bama guys have been talking smack, and that's something Saban didn't put up with. I've heard a few other rumblings about things going on behind the scenes, so I hope that, if true, DeBoer can get a handle on it. Discipline isn't necessarily a bad thing!! 13 hours ago, Carey said: Not sure what that final play was, but when you're up against it (especially in Eugene), that can happen I suppose That was an exciting game. I don't think the Oregon player who spit on the Ohio State guy realized that the camera followed him off the field, where he proceeded to throw his helmet against the wall. Yikes! They said he was a former Bama player, but I don't remember him. Even if the OS guy said something to him on the field, you've got to stay composed! 1 Link to comment
Carey October 13 Share October 13 Of course if things don't work out for DeBoer, especially that "act like you've been there before" behavior, Urban isn't super ancient! Link to comment
Carey October 13 Share October 13 Although it's been nearly 2 decades since they've been crowned, it really does appear that "Texas is back" as they remained solid to solidify their top ranking. Oregon's big win resulted in them replacing the team they beat, and Penn State can taste it, I guess. They're very, very close to that top ranking. They probably need for Texas to trip up, and while that's not that probable it's more probable than not that it'll be a moot point. After matching teams within The Rankings, there's a little bit of a difference with the AP and the Coaches. Of course, both had Ohio State falling, but not by much. Can't say the same for Mississippi. The Buckeyes and UGA are reversed, and after that, it's the same 6-8. Spots 9-12 have the same 4 teams; however Tennessee fell in the AP poll in favor of Iowa State. By the way, Army & Navy are both ranked in the AP Poll, while the latter is receiving votes in the Coaches Poll 1 Link to comment
Salacious Kitty October 13 Share October 13 (edited) I didn't expect Ole Miss to take such a nosedive. LSU ended up about where I expected them. Congratulations to the service academies. Carey October 18 Share October 18 Good news & bad news in the world of College Football: The bad news is the playoff shows are (going to be) a mess. Bastet October 19 Share October 19 I hate Lincoln Riley. I didn't want him at USC to begin with, I very quickly wanted to ship him back to Oklahoma, and at this point I would no longer be nice enough to poke some air holes in the box for him.
