My fear and dislike of the sketch is that it humanizes its subject and makes people laugh and enjoy its subject, and that's definitely not what I want.  I think it's irresponsible.

Certainly doesn't humanize it in my view and does NOT make me enjoy the subject...on the contrary, shows how ridiculous he is. Can't wait to see more

Huh?  It's usually ridicule for Trump with SNL, not humanization.  He and his supporters aren't going away any time soon; thus he remains a target for satire.

This was the worst ep of what's been an outstanding year.  I haven't really missed Kate much either.

I know I rail about the MG's, but Saweetie is the second least talented performer I've ever seen on there, after DJ Kahled.

Count me out of the Staten Island bit.  To me it seems like you have to be a New Yorker a New Yorker wannabe to care.  How many time is Pete going back to that well?  The exaltation of mediocrity is not art.

Pete needs to get some sleep and sunshine.  He looks like a corpse.

Cold open was so annoying I had to fast forward after a few minutes. Pretty much all media agree that, given the facts of the case and Wisconsin law, the verdict was appropriate, so mocking it felt like sour grapes with an agenda.

The whole time "Staten Island" was on, I couldn't tell what was true and what was a stereotype, and therefore whether the video was a documentary or lazy. In the end, it seems that most of it was simply true, which, as a non New Yorker, made me sad for people who live there.

The "First Asian" skit was enjoyable, and a little surprising coming from SNL.  Karaoke was also good for a few chuckles - it's funny because it's true.

Not sure what's funny about a dog in a shirt. Pretty dog, though.

The ruined the cake bit again, and it perplexes me. It works best (and it did both the first time they ever did this skit, and in this ep when they got to the last cake) when the contestant *doesn't realize* that what they made is awful, or pornographic, or whatever. Their lack of awareness is what makes the joke. When the contestant openly says "my cake sucks" as they are presenting it, it isn't funny anymore, because yes, their cake sucks. That's why the "rocket" shaped cake with the white icing was by far the funniest part of the skit.

I don't know why Kenan as the high professor really got to me.  He's so funny.

True. And he was the funniest one in that sketch. Like you, I don't know what it is, what Kenan's got, but he makes me laugh.

But I continue to be lost on what is supposed to make Pete Davidson so appealing.  To each his own, I know, but I'm definitely missing something.

I'm with you. The only thing I've really enjoyed him in was the Chad sketches. He seems competent in the music videos, but I can't say I particularly enjoy them. And this Staten Island video was kind of boring to me because I don't really know Staten Island. I recognized some of the things mentioned in it (bagels, pizza, garbage dump) because of pop culture, but it just didn't do anything for me.

Alex and Heidi singing a father-daughter rendition of "My Pony" gave me flashbacks to Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow singing "Cruisin" as a father-daughter duo in Duets.

Or Michael and Maebe Bluth singing Afternoon Delight.

I always like seeing Judge Jeanine. I could have done without JAJ's impression again. While I thought his previous appearance was pretty good, this time it didn't impress.

Loved the Karaoke Recap sketch. Su soppa layla was hilarious. I also thought the Homer and Marge bit was great, as well as the father/daughter song. However, I really didn't like Chloe in this one. The weird voice was not only off-putting, but I couldn't always understand her. I've liked her in other things, but she just wasn't funny here.

Target Thanksgiving was good. Ego is the best. I also loved Alex as the Uncle Who Takes the Game Too Seriously.

Dog Head Man was ok, nothing special. Of course I loved the dog, but we've seen this before. I don't think they did anything differently.

Republican Or Not was pretty good. I think Kenan was a little surprised that the audience didn't pick up on the photo from the Jan 6 insurrection.

I didn't like the Thanksgiving Bakeoff sketch. Again, we've seen this before. Same joke. Same grossness. (I can't watch real or fake vomiting.)

I liked the Asian Best-Off (or whatever you'd call it).

The music? I sat thru the first song. I FF thru the second one.

Simu was just ok in my book. Nothing remarkable.

In the way the following  sentence explains!

Re: JAJ and DJT---The impression has the latter's cadence, intonation, and bizarre segues down pat. The problem, though, is that TFG isn't seen anymore on our TV screens, so a mimicking of his speaking idiosyncrasies as such isn't as funny as when we'd just heard the real deal.

I, too, had never heard of the host and the musical guest, but I'm not displeased. SNL strives to remain au courant.

i must be missing something, not sure how this relates to saweeeeeti's performance and how it was informative, but, ok

I have no idea why LennieBriscoe answered your question, but I believe the original poster meant that Saweetie's performance was informative because they previously thought Jessica Rabbit's body proportions were not possible in real life - Saweetie showed that they are, so her performance was therefore informative. It was just a tongue-in-cheek comment, I think, and not meant too seriously.

I have a weird kind of envy of Chad.  I would love to be able to just go, "OK (shrug)" about everything (or at least more things).

Love Keenan and Chris Redd (separately and together).  Chris's timing for the heist thief who couldn't drive a stick killed me.

I have to rant a bit about the cooking show skit. I am fine with recurring skits but change it up! They take the previous script and change a few words here and there and I am so tired of it. I get it - one cake is alive and one chef makes a really good cake that is dismissed and one makes a dirty cake...it is so easy to mix this skit up and try new things but they don't.  I don't remember much about the previous dog-man one but I feel it is the same way.

I was excited for Simu Liu but he got basically nothing to do. And seeing the Asian skit and the karaoke, it seems he has the ability but they stuck him in the straight-man roles too much.

Well, here is how I know I am getting old:

When I have no idea who the host , nor who the musical guest is on Saturday Night Live.

Where is Steve Martin, and Paul Simon ? I know those guys.

I was in college when SNL (then known as NBC's Saturday Night) debuted.  We watched it in the dorm.  I own multiple Simon and Garfunkel albums and even a Steve Martin comedy album, and I know who Simu Liu is.  But that's because I've seen Kim's Convenience.  I don't give a hoot about Marvel superheroes.

The Republican sketch was really, really on point, and Kenan did a great job with it.

My opening sentence is to your answer, to wit: The original poster said that she didn't  think that the physical dimensions of the cartoon Jessica Rabbit could be replicated in real life.

Her following  sentence, to which I refer, continued with ....until she saw Saweetie (her physique is to be inferred). And that was the "informative" answer to the initially posted "wondering": That Saweetie showed quite definitively that a human woman could, indeed, be built like Jessica Rabbit.

I answered because why not? It was a post, not a PM. (You also answered, n'est-ce pas?! )

One way of reading your answer was that "the following sentence" referred to the following sentence in your post, not the original post. When your following sentence had nothing to do with Saweetie, the confusion ensued.

Now it's clear what you meant.

Dammit, Saweetie! See what you caused!

Totally agree...just didn't make any sense and added nothing to the skit.

I thought a lot of this show was great. Sorry but skipped the musical host. I give Staten Island a big first place. It was well done and funny. Also, I lived in Memphis for nine years during the time of the Walking in Memphis song so the Marc Cohn appearance added a lot for me personally. I love Pete's song sketches.

Going to bed. I live on Staten Island. The landfill has been closed for quite a while. Now . . . deer coming in from NJ and turkeys near the hospital? Totally true. I kinda want to be offended, but Pete and his friends put a lot of thought into it.

ETA: Wasn't Benson DuBois a role played by Robert Guillaume on Soap and Benson?

Yes, He Was ! I Thought That When They Did That !

Thank you.  I didn't want to vomit personal stuff in this thread but he did. And he was a similar breed to the one on SNL so a lot of the expressions were familiar. (Hell--maybe they're just dog expressions.) But I don't care. I know everyone's dog is the best dog but he really was.

Sorry for the downer.

So it was hard.  And yet, her singular focus on trying to find more food even if it meant her head went under the table was highly amusing.  As was her licking the bomb just in case there was a morsel there.

I say "regular" because this is the second Janine Pirro show of the season and he has made an appearance both times.  But unlike the other real people who appear on that show, his purpose isn't to mock his part in current news the way Aaron Rodgers was or the Rittenhouse trial judge was.  I'm not saying to never have the character, especially if he does something specifically newsworthy.

I just don't want him to keep popping up and commenting like he's a regular character on Weekend Update.  (And even if the impression is good, I agree with those who think the writing for that part of the segment isn't good.)

He really did.  His "I'm more evolved than thou" vibe was spot on.  In fact, that's one thing I appreciated the most with him.  All of his pre-recorded chararacters felt well-rounded.

I think they've kind of move on from expressly imitating the judges.  Lorraine Pascale hasn't been a judge since the pandemic began.  Carla Hall has been there for the past two years of various baking shows.

I Am Very Sorry That Your dog Died, But, You Do NOT Need To Say You Did Not Want To VOMIT This Personal Stuff On This Message Board ! You Could Have Said I Don't Want To Talk About This Or This Is Personal !
