Australian version:  No really old ghost counterpart to Robin or Thor.  I suppose their only plausible version would be an Aborigine, and unless they played him/her like Sass (inexplicably modern in speech and behavior) it would be problematic.  I find it funny that they stick with a "no pants" ghost.  Have they done this in all versions?

I wonder if they've ever considered switching up the alive couple.  Either having the husband be the one who can see the ghosts, or having a same sex couple.

The writers teased what can we expect from season 5:

  • Once Jay is rescued from Elias, it will be hard for him to deal with what has happened to him.
  • They think Pete x Alberta is an interesting pairing, they want to see how they do together. They're going to have to navigate the beginnings of a relationship next season and the sort of joy and pitfalls that that can bring. They're also two people who've been hurt very badly in previous relationships. So they're going to have to learn to trust each other, that they're not going to hurt each other like they've been hurt in the past.
  • Trevor and Hetty are going to remain “power friends”  for now and in the long term, who knows.
  • More flashback episodes showing the ghosts pasts.
  • They want another Christmas episode and another St Patricks Day episode

I really want to see more Hetty flashbacks. I want to know what happened to her sister Magaret who avoided marrying Elias. I also want to know what happened to Thomas after her death. Alberta's flashbacks are always fun because we can hear her sing.

Hey show writers... how about revealing how Sass died?  Just a thought...

Rescued?  Does that mean Jay dies next season?  Because that's an odd choice of words.  He's not captured or anything.  His soul doesn't belong to the Devil until he dies.  So what is there to be rescued from?

Maybe someone, perhaps Flower (because she is a lawyer), finds a loophole in the contract…

No it doesn't mean he dies.  It means someone saves him from Elias killing him and/or continuing to have a contract literally out on him.

My guess is probably Patience because why else bring her back this last episode but to set her up to do just that next season.  Maybe at the cost of her own soul.

I think it's a bit of a problem that the writers are treating the ghosts as though they are livings. I'm not really interested in relationship angst between the ghosts. That's a pretty standard soap opera type of story. I'd rather see something a bit more creative.

The UK version of this show never attempted romantic entanglements between their ghosts. Granted, they produced far fewer episodes per season, but still they were able to come up with story ideas that didn't revolve around romance between the ghosts.

And the two Joes who run this show need to hear from us, if we are any sample of the general audience: we are not interested in a Pete and Alberta pairing.

*Shrugs* I'm kinda curious to see where they go with that, myself. I'm fine with all the various relationships on the show - I fully agree that the show shoudl tap into as many possible storylines as possible for the ghosts, there's so much more about their pasts that I want to learn about and I'd love to get more explanation of recurring characters like Nigel and the other British soldiers, or Nancy, or so on as well, and things of that sort.

But I also don't mind the romantic aspects, myself, and am fine with the show exploring those in various ways as well.

Seriously.  It's the starkest contrast between the two shows, and the UK version did it right on that front.  All they included was

Spoiler

the hint Robin and Mary hooked up during that party when everyone got crazy.

No relationship shit between people who've been together for eons and are stuck together for possibly eternity.

Hetty finally discovering sexual pleasure and, as part of that, becoming fuck buddies with Trevor, the guy who's the definition of DTF (down to fuck)?  Made sense.  Later writing them as catching feelings did not.  None of it has -- all these people are family for decades, but a few seasons in, the writers get lazy and start pairing them off two by two because, hey, what else do American TV writers come up with?  And the Pete and Alberta retcon, that she's wanted him all along but didn't want to admit he was the right kind of guy for her, is plain gross within that TV landscape, perpetuating the notion women never actually mean it when they say they care about a male friend, but are not romantically/sexually interested in him.

The "Fresh Air" radio show yesterday had a long interview with someone who did a some reporting on AI, and she said that in an experiment where they compared stories written by AI and stories written without it, the people evaluating the stories (who did not know which were written which way) preferred the individual stories that were AI generated, but in the aggregate, the AI stories were much less creative and tended to be more similar to each other. I wonder if the trend toward using AI is making the trope problem worse, and that is why this show, which has a huge potential for interesting stories not told in every other set up, is tending to become incredibly tropey and repetitive.

Deniz Akdeniz (Chris, the flying stripper ghost) got interviewed for his role in High Potential. He is such a plain Brit here. I guess his role as Hot Guy on Ghosts is just good acting:

Sort of coincidentally, Bruno Sanches, who plays a version of Pete in the French version of Ghosts, also starred in the French version of High Potential.

There's also the trope that Alberta wasn't interested in Pete until she saw him as a "bad boy." Because women love "bad boys." Except Pete isn't really a "bad boy." Alberta just perceived him that way because he was stoned, and because she started thinking about the way he's able to travel and see other things.

Eh, Alberta's shown some interest in him before, back in the first season in particular. She liked it when he got more of a backbone after spending time with Nancy, and some of her interaction with him back then indicated she'd seen him in a slightly different light after that.

I think for her, it's more that she's just not used to the idea of being interested in someone who's genuinely a good guy, like Pete. Given her relationship history, she might claim she likes his "bad boy" side because that's the kind of guy she's always wound up dating. But since that's not really the kind of guy Pete is (even his more rebellious moments are still pretty tame), if she still finds herself interested in him anyway, I think it's more that that kind of threw her a bit, and the idea of being with a guy who would actually treat her well is something she had to kinda adjust to.

The 2023 Writer's Strike set rules on the use of AI.  From the Writer's Guild:

Quote

- Neither traditional AI (technologies including those used in CGI and VFX) nor generative AI (GAI, meaning artificial intelligence that produces content including written material) is a writer, so no written material produced by traditional AI or GAI can be considered literary material.

- If a company gives a writer written material produced by GAI that hasn’t been previously published or exploited, that material doesn’t count as assigned material (for compensation purposes) or source material (for determining credits), and can’t be used to disqualify a writer for separated rights. In other words, a company can’t give you an AI-generated screenplay and pay you a rewrite fee—you would be treated as the first writer of the screenplay.

- A writer can choose to use AI when performing writing services if the company consents and the writer follows any applicable company policies. But the company can’t require the writer to use AI software (e.g., ChatGPT) when performing writing services.

- The Company must disclose to the writer if any materials given to the writer have been generated by AI or incorporate AI-generated material.

- The WGA reserves the right to assert that exploitation of writers’ material to train AI is prohibited by MBA or other law.

On Ghosts, will Sam ever introduce Trevor to the Cutting Edge movie universe — The Cutting Edge: Going for Gold (they have a daughter with Olympic goals), The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream and The Cutting Edge: Fire and Ice? –Jen H.
We got your Q in front of the CBS hitcom’s co-showrunners, and though Joe Port admitted to being “less familiar with the sequels,” partner Joe Wiseman said, “That seems like that’d be a fertile ground to explore, to see what Trevor thinks of them.”

Now that would be fun and would blow his mind
