I always liked the Wesen of the week story and I didn't mind the Royals that much. It wasn't until that horrible storyline about Adalind posing as Juliette and sleeping with Nick came into the picture that this show went down hill. Hell, even the resistance/baby was okay/tolerable (to me) until that rape storyline.

I am going to miss the Wesen of the week story, and agree Adalind raping Nick was when the show just lost its charm.

Yeap, I agree. I mean I could tolerate pretty much anything else that came before that the Adalind's magical baby, Kelly being alive and leaving with the magical baby, the whole resistance being aimed less and the Royals being undefined bad guys who lived far away, the sudden appearance of the Keys and the Coins and their disappearance, etc...

I was a huge fan of Sleepy Hollow and only watched four episodes at the beginning of last season.  The show went off the rails when they started pushing Crane's wife and his evil son in s1 / s2 and now both are dead.  I think SH brought in new show runners or maybe the network stepped in and cleaned house.  I do know that networks have yanked show runners several times in the last two years, especially where the show seems popular.

I read where SH killed off Abby and now there is some new chick on the show in a screenshot with Crane.  I thought Crane and Abby were hot and the show just kept on pushing the witchy wife and son.  Boo!

There was a massive campaign (#AbbyMillsDeservesBetter) on Twitter.  With all the mainstream critics agreeing, around the middle of Season 2, the showrunners were replaced and we got the awesome final ep of Season 2 "Tempus Fugit" (If you were ever a fan of SH, you have to see it!).  Season 3 started off well enough, with a few problems ("Busty" Ross high among them), but a villain who had some great scenes with Abby, and giving Jenny something to do.  The back half of Season 3 wen totally off the rails, and the death of Abby in the Season 3 finale killed the show for me.

To bring this back to Grimm, a network can force a showrunner out, but it's not at all common, and the replacement might be worse!

I watched all of s1 / s2 and just a few episodes of s3, before dropping the show.  Yeah.  Abby deserved better and I just loved her chemistry with Crane.  SH may have yanked the show runners in s2, but they clearly went off the rails in s3 to kill off Abby!

Portland companies saying good-bye to Grimm.

ETA: The good/sad thing about Grimm was that it really was a surprise for NBC when it premiered to great numbers and was holding steady for that first season. They were even testing it on Thursdays trying to move it off Friday for a bit, but wisely (IMO) kept it on Friday so they had some kind of presence. Unfortunately, they never were able to parlay it into a bigger hit to catch the zeitgeist like an Angel or Buffy. I think that had a lot to do with it not having a cohesive mythology that build upon itself and veered away from memorable seasonal big bads. Greenwalt initially made one think they'd follow the 'Angel' script of wesen of the week mixed with mythology as the components were all there but they just kinda stayed in the middle with massive story swerves at the end of a season that were waved away the following season.

They had several changes and each one was even worse.  SH is the new Heroes in terms of self destruction and pettiness towards the fans.

How sad for everyone that was invested in SH.  I really enjoyed Abby and Crane's relationship from day one and really hate how the show ultimately trashed an interesting duo.

For any Grimm Local (PDX) folks...tonight's episode is being pre-empted by the Blazers game.  It will air at 2am-ish, after Carson Daly.  Or you can stream it on Saturday.

Also, ep 613 is supposed to wrap today.  However, with our snow and ice storm, I don't know if they've stuck to that schedule.

Ugh.  I will take snow any day!  Freezing rain and sleet is the worse!  It was 72 in my area two days ago, sleet and freezing rain over the next three days and then back to 60ish on Monday with lots of rain!

Well, we had record breaking snow and then things got cold, so it's all still frozen.  We aren't expected to get above freezing until Monday, and then things heat up fast and we get heavy rain.  So, that's a recipe for catastrophic flooding.  Great.

Oh, and Grimm is filming today--Bree Turner posted a picture of herself walking to work today!

Did Portland really get a foot?  I saw the zoo animal videos.  It would be really neat if the final episode had the snow in it, but if they started it beforehand when the ground was bare, maybe hard to do?  And rain on top of snow and ice is my absolute least favorite winter weather, snow you can shovel and plow it away, but rain after that is awful.

I'm in the west suburbs and we got about 8 inches, but it ranged between 4-12+ inches throughout the metro area.  I do think you'll see snow in the final episode, but that's because ET and DG did some location scenes in a forest during the last snowstorm.

Wow.  I am in the midwest and we had almost an 1/2 inch of snow so far this year.  I can deal with snow, but freezing rain and sleet is the worse!

Emerald City's ratings (0.7) this week is already under Grimm's ratings (0.8)...

I think NBC is going to miss Grimm being on Friday nights, and once the show is gone Friday will be a complete graveyard for them.

I watched Emerald City last night and was intrigued, I may have to go back and catch up.  Very high production values.  Much more interesting than Grimm at this point.

I think they should move on from these types of shows since they haven't found any since Grimm was a hit for them.

This is why NBC should have taken steps to course correct the show BEFORE their lead character was raped and now has a baby with his rapist.   The wesen of the week and fairytales is what made Grimm such an awesome show for 3 1/2 years and then came all of the baby crap, raping the male lead and hexenbiest special snowflake nonsense.

NBC tried Grimm out in other time slots before, but then ultimately left it until it declined to this point.

No, they tried putting Grimm on Mondays and Tuesdays, Monday actually end up with lower ratings than Friday, and the ratings weren't that great so it was wisely moved back to Fridays. Weak competition is actually a thing on Fridays along with lower ratings network expectations, better to be a medium fish in a small pound than get horrible numbers on a weeknight leading to cancellation. The scheduling worked for the most part, I doubt the show would have lasted this long on any other day that Friday.

I remember seeing a commercial for Powerless, but what day is it supposed to come on again? Is it going to be on Fridays, to replace Grimm or did they hope that Emerald City would be it's replacement?

Powerless will be on Thursday nights. It's a 30 minute sitcom, basically The Office in the DC universe, nothing like Grimm at all.

Ah, thanks for answering that.

The network should have realized ratings were down due to the nonsense that was being presented/written for the show (Hank and Nick being raped, rape baby Kelly, etc) and not sticking to the wesen of the week and fairytale aspects of the show.  NBC clearly loves L&O:SVU, so why wouldn't they step in and salvage Grimm before the end of s4 and have the writers fix their mistakes?

It seems to be the other way around for shows like Sleepy Hollow, Rosewood, and Emerald City.

Genre shows for the last few years have been struggling since OuaT, Grimm, and Sleepy Hollow broke out a couple years ago.

It seems to me--and I really don't watch that many shows, so I could be wrong on this--that NBC has that problem.  They don't seem to be willing to actually *fix* a show when it starts going wrong--and Grimm is not the first show on NBC that I've seen this happen to.  There is another show, on another network, that I watch that had a great (albeit unluckily timed) premise and a strong first or second episode before it started to nosedive.  However, that network decided to pull the show runners and put someone else in charge when it comes back for the second half of its first season.  I'm not sure if that is enough to save the show (again, the timing of the show is unfortunate), but I do at least admire the fact that the network was willing to step in.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I've seen many more complaints about networks pulling show runners or main story arcs when they didn't need to, than complaints that networks didn't move fast enough to "fix" a show gone wrong.  It has to be a tough call, and even on these boards, people have different opinions on when Grimm "went wrong."

When a show has the male lead raped by the same woman that raped his partner, Houston we have a problem!  The titled character of the show was raped, has a raped baby and is living / screwing his rapist!  WTF?!  I would say the show went off the rails in s4 and they compounded the issue by having Adalind pregnant with Nick's baby after she raped him!  Gross.

Different show runners I hope.....?

Yes -- "from The Martian author Andy Weir and The Martian producer Simon Kinberg, which has tapped Brian Buckner as showrunner"

Buckner has worked mostly on comedies so far: Friends, Spin City and True Blood.  He was a producer on the excellent and all too short=lived Stark Raving Mad.  If this was a comedy I might watch, but with two of my least favorite actors, not so much.

Not for me if Wu and Hank are dead!  That stick better bring them back to life!

Yeah, I knew Trubel was conceived for the sole purpose of creating a show around the character and I will never watch it!  Nope.

However, I would watch Kelly Jr., Diana, and the Triplets kick ass in their own show, with cameos on occasion from the Grimm cast, minus Juliette!

I guess that makes more sense that she was meant to launch a spinoff, but it wouldn't have worked so it was wisely shelved.

We might be getting a spin-off afterall!

It's gotta be about the kids or following Trubel.  Either way I'm in. The show may have been inconsistent but I loved the world of the show.

I had to have a hard break from this show when they crossed too many lines, so this news was a big WTF? for me.  I can't say I'm interested...the original was such an effing mess that became downright offensive, but at least this one has a different writer (I never watched Iron Fist, so I am not familiar with her).  I will say that the two possible spinoffs--the kids or Trubel, are both turn-offs for me.  If they go with the kids, they have to continue with the whole idea that rape is romantic and that is something I will not watch.  If it is about Trubel, I"m out--no interest in the character or the actress.

Now, if they went a completely different direction, I might be persuaded to give it a try.

This is the single best news I've heard on the scripted entertainment front in a very long time. I don't care if we ever see Nick, Adelind, Renard, or Juliette again, but I so miss Munroe and Rosalee. And even if the regulars only make the occasional cameo for a flashback I'd be so happy to see that wonderfully-built world come alive again. I don't know whether they'll focus on the present or the future (the kids taking up the mantle from the parents), but the stories I always loved the best were the Wessen-of-the-week plots. I never cared about the Royals or anything in the overall arc. It was the world that drew me in and I miss it terribly.

And Bud. Damnit, I loved that guy! When I heard that they were going in to their final season I was thinking a good way to end the show would have been to have Nick die, and all the Good Wessen showing up from around the world, wogeing in respect at the funeral—in essence, rebooting the world's power and letting everybody know what was going on.

There wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house if they did that. And it would have easily set up a spin off in the near-future with a Grimm task force, aided by Wessen on the side of good teaming up to take down the bad ones. It'll be more difficult if they choose to focus on the kids, twenty-odd years in the future.

From what they've said, it sounds like it is a Trubel-centered show, which means I'm out.  I didn't like the character and hated the actress.  (I *might* be persuaded to watch if they recast her...)
