The Talk in the Media: Letting Other People Talk for a Change
UsernameFatigue replied to Primetimer's topic in The Talk
Yes, that is what I meant but didn't express as clearly. IIRC, Elaine said in the leaked convo that she didn't always have the same opinion, or even a strong opinion, on any given subject. I can see how it would be frustrating to not be allowed, in some sense, to have your own opinion but rather be expected to be a spokesperson of sorts. I also remember Elaine saying that she did not want to broach the subject of Piers to Sharon, and refused producers' direction to do so. I also remember back when Sharon left, that she said Carrie Ann was very upset to be made by producers to ask the question (supposedly on behalf of a viewer) of why it is OK for Blacks to use the N word. As I recall, Elaine was very rude to Carrie Ann in her answer, to the point of Carrie Ann crying. (She also seemed to forget that Carrie Ann is herself a POC). Sharon said that after that, the hosts decided that they would not let the producers direct them to do something they did not agree with. Obviously it happened again (without Elaine's participation, or Carrie Ann's since she wasn't there that day). So I honestly think both Carrie Ann and Elaine not coming back may stem from the producers' actions towards to hosts. I rather doubt if either of them actually trust them any longer. -

Ha. I haven't been on this thread in awhile as I stopped watching the show when the new episodes ended for this season. So when I read the above post, I mistakenly thought it said procrastinator, and wondered what that meant in relation to my post - lol. But no, I am not surprised. I always thought that Elaine wanted to tackle more serious subjects. But then in the leaked audio of her convo with Sharon after the on air debacle, Elaine said that she did not want to always have to be the person speaking for the Black community (to paraphrase). So I wasn't really sure what her POV was with regards to where the show should be headed. So maybe it just wasn't a good fit for her in any way. I also didn't know until now that Carrie Ann is not returning. Not surprised by that either, but I do think she is a much bigger loss than Elaine. So I wonder what direction the show will go in now? Personally I think they should have another male host, and stick with 4 hosts but that will not likely be what happens. I guess when it returns I will tune in to see what TPTB come up with, but not holding my breath that they will make good long term decisions. Or even short term, for that matter. -
When the police arrived at the trailer where Dawn and her husband took Kai, one of the officers said that the vehicle parked outside was the one that ran Emma off the road. I really enjoyed this series. The writers did a good job with all the twists and turns. I also liked that each episode focused on one of the characters in the story. And of course they did a good job of making Matt look suspicious from the start, so it was a nice surprise to see that it was not the person I suspected all along.

S11.E14: Lips Unsealed

I loved Sutton laughing at snarling Erica - best part of the episode for me. Second best part was Kathy and Kyle eating from the TV trays, complete with ritz crackers. I have no doubt that Big Kathy showed up in the form of the flickering light bulb. Always the stage mom, apparently. I did feel sorry for Crystal, after putting on a beautiful party, to have it dissolve into yet another argument between two (or more) howives. I am convinced that these scenes are producer driven. So I am sure Crystal wasn't surprised, but she did look disappointed. So Erica is claiming that she found out about Tom's cheating 8 years ago? She said it was when Yolanda was on the show, and Yo left after season 6. Yikes. Who knows if that it true, but I was a bit surprised to hear her say it. -

So four minutes into the episode, and Leah already had me yelling at the screen. Didn't Leah explain to her family that during Shabbat, those observing are not to use their phones for 24 hours? So why was Leah face timing ON a friggin' cell phone, so that she could be a part of Eboni's Black Shabbat dinner? I can't see Leah being able to follow through successfully on her conversion - she is too much of a narcissist. I am beginning to wonder if Leah has Adult Opposition Defiance Disorder. She certainly seems to have had it as a child, and it seems that many of the characteristics fit her as an adult. I really hope she isn't back next year, but I doubt we will be that lucky. Ramona is such a great hostess. I loved the lounge wear she provided for the girls, even if it wasn't up to Eboni's standards. It was very sweet of her. And an episode without a lecture from Eboni - what a breath of fresh air that was. I am glad Eboni found her father, and half siblings. I wonder if her mother has accepted it? -

I loved Kathy saying that the grilling Erica got (such as it was) was good practice - lol. Also loved Sutton sticking to her guns, but at the end of the night giving Erica a present. I love Sutton! -

That surprised me too. And it isn't like there were tons of people there to feed, just the howives which number no more than many would have at a typical family holiday dinner. I pictured staff from a restaurant sneaking the food in the back door in the foil roasters. I also laughed when Kyle insisted she cooked herself and did not have a chef, meanwhile one of the women was captioned as being Kyle's chef. Lol. I don't remember Kyle having a glam squad before. Ok, not a squad, but a glam person? I guess maybe because the party was at her house she felt the need, but she looked no different to me than when she does her own hair/makeup. I actually like the way the cast has gelled, and if the same ones return sans Erica next year I think it will be a good group. Mind you it is quite possible Erica will return as well -you just never know with howives. I did laugh when she said she wanted to know where the money went. Well Erica, your LLC, two private planes, the houses you didn't know Tom had, the mistress(es) you didn't know Tom had, etc., etc. I wonder if she ever questioned where the money came from as it was being spent? -
S13.E15: Bitching and Ramoaning

I am trying to figure out why Eboni continues to give Sonja a pass, when she acts even worse than Ramona. That rant about Ramona being only interested in yachts, etc. ? That is Sonja, through and through. I did have to laugh when poor Archie mouthed "Eboni" like she was trying to figure out WTF to do to shut Sonja up. And peeing in Archie's driveway? The fact that Eboni didn't go ballistic about that just tells me that she is there for the paycheck and is friends with Sonja and Leah because that is her assignment this season. The best thing (only good thing?) about this episode was that Leah was barely in it. Loved that after not seeing her mother for two weeks, the first thing Leah's daughter does is go to her bedroom. Funny, and totally understandable. I am also so amused that Leah spends most of her THs putting down the white cast members as elitists, and then tries to justify spending $60,000 to put her kid in a private high school. Hypocrite, thy name is Leah. I do sympathize with hangry Ramona, as I suffer from the same problem. I learned long ago to carry a snack in my purse if I am going to dinner, especially at someone's house, as you are at their mercy as far as when you will actually have dinner. I excuse myself, head to the powder room and wolf down a snack so that I don't bite someone's head off. -
I was going to click the lightbulb on your post, but I still don't really understand. I do appreciate though you trying to clarify! 😀

I don't know what that means. There never was a rabbit so the whole family just went along with a story about Grace stepping in imaginary rabbit poop left by an imaginary rabbit, who then died when she yelled at it? And she and Robert kept the imaginary "incident" a secret for 25 years? Nothing clear about that, at all.
-
I believe Bud is supposed to be currently 34 years old, and Robert said that the "incident" happened 25 years ago, so Bud would have been 9. As chediavolo said, the fact that the rest of the family were just blowing it off as well makes them all shits in my book. I have spent the last decade volunteering with an animal charity, caring for 800 bunnies that people adopted as pets and then abandoned. They make wonderful pets, but are also sensitive, and need specific care. The fact that the writers think a dead bunny is a funny storyline is infuriating to me. My comment regarding Robert and Grace not knowing that there was no such holiday was that you would think if Sol and Frankie had to bow out of doing things with them due to the holiday, other people would be in the same boat? If it were a real holiday. The writers seem to make the characters dumber every year. I can't say that I have really enjoyed the first 4 episodes of this season. And what is up with Jane Fonda? She looks terrible. Too much plastic surgery or botox? Her face barely moves. The joke about her roots growing out might be funny if they were grey, but at least on my TV they are blonde.
-
I really, really, disliked this episode. I hate any show that uses animals dying, for laughs. And yes, bunnies are very sensitive and can die of fright, so diva Grace yelling at a bunny because she got bunny poop on her shoe, while holding up the said shoe as if she is going to strike bunny, is very possible. And not the least bit entertaining. Not to mention, it isn't the bunnies fault that there was poop on the floor (and bunnies can be litter trained). Would the writers have written Grace yelling at and shaking her shoe at a kitten or puppy? Even more disturbing, Bud didn't seem to care that his bunny died unnecessarily, only that his family tricked him into thinking he could be a magician. They have always written these characters as being not all that bright, but honestly, how long can you pass of a fake Jewish holiday? Did Grace and Robert never wonder why none of their other Jewish friends never celebrated the same holiday? Or are we to believe they knew no other people, ever, who are Jewish? As much as Brianna likes getting her way, I find it hard to believe that someone like Brianna would stick with a person that she obviously does not respect. After all, the person she chooses also reflects on her. There are many couples where one is dominant and one goes along to get along, I just see Brianna needing to be with someone that she thinks that other women could not get.

S11.E12: Circle of Distrust
UsernameFatigue replied to jewel21's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I loved Sutton in this episode. I loved it when she commented that Kathy was so bossy in telling her that her necklace was a little too daytime for dinner. Meanwhile Sutton is wearing a gorgeous (can't remember the designer name) cuff bracelet. I also liked when Sutton commented on Dorit's ridiculous get up. I thought she was going to end her remarks with "Bless her heart". I also loved Harry texting a picture of his acrylic nails. Harry has, and continues to be, not only my fav husband of the franchises I watch (OC, BH, NY) but my favourite person. Loved seeing Kyle's dogs. I could watch an entire episode of just those furbabies. -
I actually did just re watch before I deleted the episode. and it was more like a tumbleweed. Definitely wasn't a soccer ball. I'm disappointed, it was a far funnier scene when I saw a soccer ball. Lol. I guess all those seasons of watching Schitt's Creek (which is why I started watching this show) spoiled me, where I could watch an episode multiple times and pretty much always see something funny that I missed on previous viewings.

S13.E14: Hanger Pains

I was hoping someone would turn the phone face down. And mute it first. OK maybe not the muting part, as that would have been really entertaining to hear narcissist Leah freak out that she could no longer see, or more importantly be seen. I had to laugh at realtor Ramona carrying her purse around as she showed the apartment. She looked like she was a neighbour who just happened to stop by and decided to give her opinion. If Ramona ever does get her license, I would love to see her on MDLNY. She would be much more entertaining that former howive Kelly has been when she has appeared on the show. When Leah was sitting on her couch with the older man who was complaining that a private high school costs as much as college, I at first thought it was Leah's father. Then I realized it was Rob. He has really aged. But then I would imagine every year that he has spent with Leah has aged him two. Minimum. -
I am totally bored with Girardigate. I only watch RhoNY, RHoOC and this franchise, so am not familiar (though have heard of course through media) with shows that have been hijacked by the legal issues of a spouse, or spouse and HW. At least to this degree. And honestly I don't find them entertaining whatsoever. At this point I would rather see Sutton and Crystal snipping at each other, though it was nice to see them getting along and even sitting beside each other at Erika's dinner. I am enjoying Kathy's antics (though I think much is an act, she is entertaining). I enjoy scenes where the ladies are getting along and having fun. Whatever Erika may be lying about or not lying about, I really don't care. I watch this show to be entertained, and at the moment that is not happening. Heck RHoNY was more entertaining this week, and it has been a sh**t show so far this season. I have sympathy for what appears to be many victims of Tom. But I watch this show as an escape from reality (at the moment large parts of my province burning down around us) and this isn't doing it for me.
-
This is not normally the type of show I would watch, but started watching because I love Tim Rozon and Sara Levy. Though of course there is room for improvement I am loving it! I love the humour, and the part in last night's episode that mimicked an old west gunfight, complete with I think it was a soccer ball rolling down the street instead of a tumbleweed, had hubby and me in stitches.
-
Personally I don't find it admirable in men or women.
-
I question the sanity of someone having a baby at 54. I guess the 4 kids she has already weren't enough, and she didn't have one with her 5th husband? I know men have kids at all ages, but honestly I feel sorry for her kid graduating high school with a mother who by then would be 72. Assuming she is still alive. Sorry, just because you can doesn't mean you should. and it certainly doesn't make me admire her. JMO. I think there should be a second male host, if Carrie Ann does not return. Hot Jesus would be my first choice, but I do like David too. I didn't see all of the show today but enjoyed the topic conversations very much. I also like it when each host had a chance to voice their opinion or tell a story. I think the 5 today mesh together very well, and that Jerry is fitting in just fine. I think he will as well if CA returns, but do like the balance of two male hosts.

S13.E13: Ho Ho Holidays

I thought that Laura said that when she met Ramona previously she herself was pregnant. Then Laura said to Ramona that she looks gorgeous (though my closed captioning for some reason said beautiful not gorgeous). Loved Ramona showing up to help Sonja, though Sonja is a lousy friend who really doesn't deserve it. It certainly seems though that her partner is taking advantage of her, so good on Ramona for questioning him. Please keep Leah's family off my screen. They are duller than dishwater. And do Leah and Sara not see their brother often? They acted like they had never seen his moustache before, but wouldn't one that thick take a couple of months to grow? Didn't her grandmother die at the end of October, so likely only a month or so before this epi would have been filmed? Also, not a good look on whatever-his-name is. He looked like he was auditioning for a part as a 70s porn star. Not sure I want to see an entire season of Eboni searching for her father, but it beats been preached to. I can't imagine why her mother doesn't just tell her, unless she doesn't know herself. I hope if she does find out who it is, the story ends happily for her, but I think the odds are likely more against it. But good luck to her in any case. -
I haven't watched the show in awhile, just haven't been home. But I watched today, and loved the interview with John Corbett, and the bromance between John and Jerry. I also loved him saying that he will wait all day in line to get the correct price on a bunch of apples, that his time is worth nothing to him. That had me laughing our loud, and loving him even more. And to end the segment just casually announcing, because he forgot to tell Jerry in their two hour convo on Sunday, that he and Bo got married around Christmas? Priceless. And so sweet. Not a bad coup for The Talk either to be the first to find out - lol.

Patti has no chemistry with the cop at all. I wonder if the show cast this way on purpose, or just didn't care one way or the other? Patti has way more chemistry with Allison. It struck me as funny that the guy hired to kill Kevin has a big peace sign on his wall. Likely was just meant to go with his old and second hand looking furniture, but it struck me as funny. I also laughed when the cop asked Allison if Kevin had any enemies (don't remember the exact phrasing) and Allison answered "Everyone loves Kevin". I assume that was on purpose by the writers, since the sitcom part of the show is supposed to resemble shows like Everyone Loves Raymond.

It would not surprise me if Carrie Ann does not return, though I hope she does because I miss her. We now have two instances that we know of where the producers have put the staff in uncomfortable positions. When Carrie Ann was made to ask a question, supposedly from a viewer, she was actually crying at Elaine's IMO rude answer to her. Elaine seemed to forget that Carrie Ann is also a POC. I actually had more respect for Elaine when I saw the transcript of the leaked conversation between Elaine and Sharon, where Elaine said she refused to ask Sharon the question about Piers when producers asked her to. It is too bad that Sheryl did not have the same amount of integrity. While I hope selfishly that Carrie Ann returns, I think it would be better for her health if she does not. As far as the other co hosts asking to be paid the same as Jerry, assuming that is true it is also ridiculous. Jerry has been working in the business for almost 40 years. As far as I can see, if he is being paid more it has to do with his resume and longevity in the business, not because he is a man. Sheryl for me is the weakest link of them all. She is not funny, and she is downright embarrassing when she at times treats the male hosts and guests like sex objects. It would not be tolerated if she were male and was acting that way towards females on air, and it should not be tolerated or considered cute and acceptable because it is a female harassing a male. I

All Episodes Talk: Small World, Big Lives

Lol. I never said that being married was more respectable than living together either. My point was that there are many people who are dead set against being married or married again, when, depending on where you live, the law looks at it exactly the same way. With or without that piece of paper. I actually don't think Amy and Chris, or any of the Roloffs, are famous at all. Maybe in Oregon, but not in the grand scheme of things. Yes, they need people to watch the show for it to stay on. I don't think people discussing them in forums like this though matters one way or the other to the success of the show. In any case I am happy for Amy and Chris, and think they make a lovely couple. I certainly never thought I would end up falling in love with my husband, as we were friends for many years previously. Love works in mysterious way, as the saying goes. Caryn on the other hand I think will be waiting a long time if she wants to marry Matt. I like Caryn, so hope she doesn't wait too long if marriage is something she wants. -

So Chris has stated why he hasn't married, because he was cheated on and has friends and family who have been divorced. But now he has decided to marry, and there must be some deep, dark or devious reason why? Or he owes the viewing public an explanation as to why he has changed his mind? Maybe to some, not to me. I think Chris and Amy make a great couple, and wish them well. I know many people who have married and divorced, and will never marry again. But they are in long term relationships, and live with that person. At least where I live, they are considered by law to be married and if they were to split the person they are living with has the same rights to division of property, etc. as if they had that piece of paper. But they are adamant that they will not marry again. I actually have more respect for Chris having never been married, than I do for people who marry multiple times and treat marriage like is has the significance of changing their socks.
