I could have done without Rita Ora burping the alphabet (actually, I could do without ever hearing anyone doing that ever again), but I enjoyed everyone else's tricks. Every time I think I can't love Olivia Coleman more, she proves me wrong. I loved the art curator's red chair story. It was obvious where it was going, but I loved the way she told it and everyone's reaction to it.

I am! Milo's been my pick since week 3 or 4 (whenever he did that awesome Charleston), and I'm sticking with him. I won't be mad if Evanna wins, but I'm rooting for Milo. It's the opposite for me. I've been splitting my votes between the two, because I wanted to help get Evanna into the finals. Mission accomplished. But I want Milo to win, so Monday night all my votes went to him.

S04.E04: I'm Making Up for Lost Time
Nessie replied to dubbel zout's topic in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend [V]
How much information? None. Mine barely talked to me for four years. Then one day after each of their 18th birthdays it's like they woke up and realized I was a person who was actually pretty smart and started talking to me about all kinds of things...some things I wish they wouldn't! LOL -

Tucker looked familiar to me, but I couldn't place him. Then yesterday I was watching last week's episode of You, and realized he was the quiet, bookish, low-key Paco! I had to look him up on IMDB to make sure, the characters were so different. That kid has some range. I liked Paula and her kids so much better than the A-plot. I just wanted to tell her to give it some time...it does get better (speaking as someone who raised two boys). And then...it did! LOL -
My Generation: Period Set, Style, Slang, etc.

That seems late to me. My dad was in the Navy and we were stationed in Spain in the early 80's. That's when we first got both, and it felt like we were the last ones on base to get them (my parents were far from early adopters...it drove me crazy that we always seemed like the last people to get anything). I realize I kind of lived in a bubble over there but when we returned to the US in 1985, pretty much everyone I met had both. @CherryAmes is right about the lack of tapes, though, at least in the early 80's, and especially in our particular Navy Exchange in Spain. I still remember the first two movies we bought for our first VCR...East of Eden for my mom, and The Outsiders for me and my sisters. And they had those horrible big, soft plastic "clamshell" boxes that would pop out of shape easily and you could never get the tape back in afterwards. We never had to cover our books in elementary school, but by the time I went to middle school, we had moved from California to Scotland (again...Navy brat...we moved a lot). We were required to cover our books but we used wrapping paper, so we girls would use the prettiest we could find. Over there at the time (I don't know about now), you could buy wrapping paper by the sheet in stationary shops. -
I loved this episode. Wow does this show bring back memories, even for this girl who is not Catholic, and is the middle child of three sisters, instead of eight brothers. I never exploded an egg in the microwave, but I did explode a chicken breast once...so gross. This is why to this day I hate using a microwave, and won't if I don't have to. The one in my kitchen isn't even plugged in unless I need it for something like popcorn. I've passed this prejudice onto my younger son, as well. Both us us would much rather use the stovetop or oven to heat something up even if it takes longer. The results more than make up for the extra time. Ugh...my mom used to make this "roast" whole chicken and apples dish in a microwave bag...we used to watch the bag expand while it cooked. It actually tasted pretty good, but looked so pale and nasty that she had to cover it up with gravy to get us to eat it. And yes, she got the recipe out of a microwave cookbook. We didn't get a microwave until around 1983...my parents never trusted new technology and we were pretty much the last people to get anything out of all my friends.

I grew up in Southern California throughout the 70's. We always had fresh salads, but that's because my dad was a Kentucky farm boy who planted his own garden. At dinner time, he would send us outside to "pick our salads". I can't remember my mom ever buying fresh vegetables unless she needed them for a recipe, until I asked her to buy some artichokes after I had them at a friends house. Other than that, vegetables were mostly frozen corn, broccoli, spinach and Brussels sprouts (cooked to death) or canned green beans. My mom's favorite "vegetable" is still frozen corn. Thank God we've gotten smarter about food (although I do miss those fresh-picked salads). My biggest LOL moment in this episode was the mom's horrified "$32!" when looking at the grocery bill...for 10 people...and 9 of them are male! HA! I spend double that on just me and my son.

My mom had waist-length Cher hair in the early 70's. She was a free spirit. The one day she came home with a Dorothy Hamill (I guess it must have been after DH won the gold, so 1976). It was quite a shock. She's had it short ever since. All you people with your fancy Hi C or Hawaiian Punch at meals...for us it was milk, always, every meal. -
I agree about Aretha Franklin. Maybe I just don't know enough about her to consider her a musical genius (which I guess would make the show a good idea), but I'm just not that interested. Dick Clark is interesting, as is Berry Gordy. But honestly? The first person I think of when I think of a musical genius is Prince, and I wouldn't mind seeing a season about him, if they have to do a modern-day person. Overall, I kind of liked that this show was about historical geniuses, not more modern-day people. After the last disappointing season (IMO), I was looking forward to Mary Shelley, and I really hope - if it's set aside for Aretha - the show is not cancelled before they do it.

I think you're right. That's the way I remember it, too.

I liked it. It made me laugh a lot more than most sitcoms these days do. When it comes to sitcoms a few laughs is all I ask for. I'm highly suspicious of most networks these days, and of course this could get much worse, but I'm in for now.

I don't pay much attention to this show but I think Diana is pregnant. Which is exactly what this show doesn't need...to hamstring it's best character with a pregnancy story next season (if there is one).
-
Thank you! I thought it was just me not paying enough attention last season, but I was like "wait...since when did Uncle Nick have an Australian accent? And does it keep slipping?" It was weird. Also weird? The cult was giving me NXIVM vibes (before the suicide stuff), then who shows up but Sarah Edmondson (she played the dark haired woman who told Liam about the suicide stuff). Interesting she should play a cult member here - her history with NXIVM is chilling.

That's interesting, because my red-green color blind father was allowed to join the Navy in the early 60's, and he stayed in for 34 years. I wonder when they changed the rules, but I'm too lazy to look it up...LOL My thoughts are with you @AEMom, and you @woodstock, and all of you who have lost loved ones to that horrible disease, or are watching them go through it now. I lost my father to it 18 months ago, and it was devastating watching that capable, in-charge, always-knew-what-to-do career Navy officer man turn into someone else...someone who didn't even know who I was in the end. My greatest fear is that the same thing may happen to me someday.

I know I'm dredging up a post over a year old, but I just watched both these series this past week. I'll go you one better on the names...Lizzie actually had two brothers named Richard. Richard Grey from her mother's first marriage (I assume named after E. Woodville's father) and Prince Richard (named after EIV's father and brother). It's just crazy - she only had the two sons with Edward so it's not like she had already used up all the names, even if you add in Thomas and Richard Grey, her two sons by John Grey. Her mother had at least six sons and managed to give them all different names (only one of whom was Richard). When I read about this I asked my younger son if he would mind if I got remarried and had another son and named him the same name as his, and he looked at me like I was insane! I can't say I enjoyed either series - this period in history fascinates me so I've read quite a bit and the series were just so stupid and revisionist (but that's Phillipa Gregory for you). The White Queen was much better than The White Princess. But they were both pretty to look at.
-
Looks like none of the cast of The White Princess is returning so once again, there will be no cast continuity. And also once again, it's based on Phillipa Gregory's revisionist history. Ah well...I missed all the delightful snarking during both the first two series - I just watched both this past week. I'm looking forward to joining in for this one, as I'm sure it won't be any better than those were.

OMG This! I just want Liza to say to Charles point blank "I know you're not in charge of hiring, but if I had come to you as a 42-year old divorcee and asked for an entry-level job, would you have given it to me?" and dared him to lie to her face that he would have. Also, I think it's funny how so many people are so against Kelsey dating Zane, when he's at least her equal at work, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone that Charles is Liza's boss's boss (least of all Charles). They even brought in Bob as Empirical's legal counsel in that one episode who specifically said that it's forbidden in the company for management to date a subordinate. Charles owns the company, so he's not going to be the one to lose his job...but Charles is "hot" (to some), so I guess it's ok.

There is some more information about some of the the models in the Questions About Face Off thread started by @KCMUSSMAN when she was on the show last year.

To me, Alicia Silverstone is delivering her lines like she's trying to come across as some grande dame, which she is way too young for. That said, she is made to play a 70's-era woman. She looks beautiful in the hair and make-up. So Kyle Richards based this show on her mom, and it's all about her random hookups and sexual awakening? That's...normal...I think I'm starting to understand why her sisters are reportedly not very happy about it.
-
I agree with you @msrachelj. I don't know if this is specifically what you're talking about, but I thought Christine Baranski's original line we were shown ("have him washed and brought to my tent" I think it was) was so much funnier (and so much less crass) than what they said made it into the movie. And Rupert Everett...ok, I know age happens to all of us, but I didn't even recognize him until he started talking and I heard his unmistakable voice.

S15.E04: Auditions 4 2018.06.25
Nessie replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
I don't think I'll be holding this against him if he makes it to the live shows. He was what...12? There's a big difference between 12 year-olds and 22 year-olds in maturity level (hopefully). I do, however, reserve the right to reverse my opinion if he shows his ass on this show. That said, I'm glad the auditions are over, and I'm really glad they didn't go on too long (most other shows could stand to shorten their audition rounds). I'm looking forward to the Academy starting on Monday. -
Am I the only one who saw Graham's concierge as a bearded Rif Raf with a disfigured jaw? It was so derivative to me that I couldn't believe it was chosen over Walter's.

I'm not sure where to put this, but I went to the website just now to look at a couple of recipes, and it's black. I mean, the recipes are all there (if you know where to look, because of course they're not linked from the episode page - whoever updates the page has been doing a half-assed job for months!) but the color scheme has changed from white to black. In memoriam, perhaps?
