I don't hate Erica either. I'm just so very tired of having to hear her sing in every...single...episode... I don't care when Lucky is on. I do like seeing Pops, though (I guess he's a snowbird?). Until you mentioned it just now, I hadn't really noticed the lack of Adam.

Unreasonable and double standards how? I'm sure they will be besties again soon...probably way sooner than is realistic considering Jordan slept with both his girlfriend and his mother but personally, I wouldn't blame Rainer if he never spoke to Jordan again.

Does anyone know if Elementary has been permanently moved to Mondays now? I'd like to be able to adjust my recording time back down to 1 hour instead of the 2 it's currently at (my *just in case* time period from the annoying sports overruns of last season's Sunday time slot).

Wow...try not to go TOO wild, ladies... Hillary Swank was the MVP of this ep for me. I felt every bit of her heartbreak when she thought her 16 year old son was dead at the hands of those animals, when his grandfather could have prevented it (the flashbacks to when he was a baby and small child helped sell it, too). And then her relief when she realized it wasn't him, then her anger...I've never been a big fan of hers, but she was terrific here.

Amen to the bolded part. I wish others would remember that. I am aware of that, thanks. At the risk of raising more ire, I have to say that after watching Dancing With the Stars last night, at least American Idol remembered the West Coast exists and tried to include them in the voting.

I really don't know what to think with this Kyle reveal. Part of me wants to think it's a test, but it does explain the stuff with the cop that I had totally forgotten about until the previouslies. My favorite part of the episode was realizing that Terrance and DeAnn live at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch, along with that gang of weirdo's from The Last Man on Earth, and it's also where the doomed wedding of Scheana and Mike Shay took place on Vanderpump Rules a couple of years ago. So for a good part of the episode, I amused myself by imagining what it would be like if Terrance was in the same room with Tandy, Melissa, Carol, Gail, and Scheana, and how long it would be before he killed them all.

I get it, a lot of people are uncomfortable with change. Personally, after some initial trepidation, I've decided I like this method. If I miss the voting window, I have no one to blame but myself.

To me, this is a good thing. I love Chris and Bo, but we don't need another one of either, and I'm pretty sure Cade doesn't want to be either one (although I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind Chris' career). And honestly, he doesn't remind me of either...maybe Bo a little with the long hair and Southern rocker thing, but that's it. I really doubt any but the most casual fan voted based on performances in the past, at least after a couple of weeks. I mean, I might have thrown a vote or two to someone I thought gave a great performance, but I had to weigh it against if I thought that might hurt my favorite. So in a way, to me, this is more fair, because the max I can give someone is 10 votes (per method, I guess, but I only use my laptop so I don't have to download their stupid app and I'm not going to waste my time texting), whereas before, I could vote hundreds of times if I cared to. As far as I can tell, everyone has the same window to vote, so I'm not sure where this "x had less time" comes from (not that you said this, but I've heard it). If someone had a great performance last night that you weren't planning on voting for, you could change your votes up until the last commercial break. So, for example, even if I only voted for Maddie, and submitted my votes, but then LOVED what Dennis did and wanted to give him some votes, I could, as long as the window hadn't closed. Not to be harsh, but the only thing the show is "forcing" on you is watching somewhat in real time...it's not their fault if you choose not to. I kind of appreciate that the show has given up the pretense that people vote based on performances, and are willing to admit that people will vote for their faves without even hearing them. It's kind of refreshing. Oh, and about the contestants numbers, I noticed they went from 1 - 14, so it looks like they all got numbers at top 14, and they are just going to keep the same numbers throughout the competition. I don't know about that...the love for Michael is strong. Finally, and I forgot to mention this earlier, when Katy was doing her "bit" with the apple, and said something to the effect of "she said it'd make the end result feel much better", and Dennis replied with "Hopefully that's true", was I the only one who took it as him saying that hopefully she'd die for making his critique all about herself? I had to throw him extra votes after that...LOL

I agree with you to a point, but it's always been a popularity contest, and honestly, I feel like the majority of people pretty much voted like this after a few weeks anyway, Not that they voted at the beginning of the show, but they voted for their favorites regardless of their performance. I remember back in season 7, I loved everything David Cook did until his unfortunate performance of "Innocent" during Idol Gives Back week, which I thought was terrible. It made me vote extra hard for him that week, though, because I didn't want him to go. At least this way, it's easy to vote for everyone you want to, and grade them on a curve, so to speak. Very true. I did enjoy his performance tonight, though. Smart move on his part to show a softer side. These are the most useless judges we've had yet, and that's saying A LOT! The best part about them is that I know I can FF them and be confident I won't miss anything interesting. We got the top 7 I expected. I would have preferred Dennis to Gabby, but I didn't really care for his performance tonight, and I hated what he did to his hair (still threw him some votes though, because I wanted him to make it). Surprisingly, I didn't hate Michelle tonight, but I didn't enjoy her enough to vote for her.

Isn't that why we have children? So we can meet a hot pediatrician after the inevitable split with our husbands? j/k

Thank you for posting that. It was hysterical! I would have much rather seen that then the Bill Cosby verdict, which is what I got instead - stupid ABC couldn't wait 5 minutes...

A curse on each of you! After 5 episodes, and KNOWING his name is Bullimore, I still hear Voldemort because of you! So thanks a lot! LOL

I can see both your points (I think). I had only seen Santiago Cabrera in "heartthrob" roles before*, so like @Llywela says, he probably relished playing against type. But in this, I found him so gross I not only didn't find him attractive, I didn't even recognize him and wondered why Maddie would cheat on Ed with him. * I mean, he's been both Lancelot and Aramis, for goodness sake!

I'm trying to decide if I want to watch it as it airs, or binge it like I did the last season. Decisions, decisions...

Thanks for that! I wonder how hard it is for him to maintain the American accent (which I think is pretty good) when he's in scenes with Vinnie Jones and Lenora Crichlow? I think it would be harder with Lenora, since her accent is much more similar to his than Vinnie's is.

Really? Wow...a person must really want that TV exposure to give up ALL rights to their original music like that. What a risky proposition. Do you know if that's true of everyone who appears on the show? Or, for instance, only if they make it to the live shows, or top 10? Does 19E own "Pants on the Ground"??? (Lucky them...)

You're welcome. Have to say I was a little hesitant about posting it, but I tried to be as diplomatic as I could. If I offended anyone, I apologize, as that was not my intent. That was the first and only time I will comment about race on AI (this year, anyway), because it's such a non-issue for me, until others make it so.

Why is it problematic for white people to have cultural preference, or even cultural bias? Name me one culture that doesn't. As you say, we like what we like. I don't think I need to be critical of myself for this, and I don't think I need to explain my preferences to anyone. That's the beauty of this show. We get to vote for whoever we want to, not who someone else thinks we should (much to Katy's chagrin, apparently). I am so tired of the racist accusations on Idol every year when certain people are disappointed with the results. There are always plenty of black contestants. Some make it far, some don't. If the black voters don't show up to vote for them (based purely on the color of their skin, apparently), don't blame the rest of us. In reference to the bolded bit, I believe it's only enough data to show that the majority of voters (or at least the most rabid voters) will default to the type of music or performer they prefer, which again goes back to "we like what we like". It's as simple as that.

Ok, so just watched the latest episode. Seems ALL the guys on location got food poisoning from eating bad eggs, while none of the women did. So is the show making a "subtle" point about all the women in Hollywood being vegan, or that they're all smart enough not to eat eggs after the power kept going off for undetermined amounts of time, while men are not? Whatever...girl power!

I don't agree. Just because you don't listen to it anymore doesn't mean it's not out there. Rock stations are two of the top 5 rated radio stations in my area, and I'm in the south, where you'd probably expect country stations to be more popular, but there aren't any even in the top 10. Rock festivals are still huge across the country, and a lot of those feature current acts as headliners. Rock certainly isn't dead, and it's far from even being on life support.

Well that was completely predictable. America got the top 6 right - I was surprised Jurnee didn't make it, actually, but she wasn't good last night. Regardless, it worked itself out with the wildcard. I knew the judges weren't going to let her go (deservedly so). WHAT was that shuffle around the stage Katy and Luke did when Michael J was declared safe? Although honestly, I might have thrown a fist in the air and uttered a "yes" myself... I knew the judges were going to put Ada through without deliberation as soon as I saw what song she was doing, and I was absolutely certain as soon as she started with the notes only dogs can hear. God I hate that song, and it should be immediately retired from the Idol songbook along with the equally overdone "I Will Always Love You" and "Natural Woman" (neither of which I will be at all surprised to hear Ada do over the next few weeks). Also, there was no way they weren't going to put Michelle through after Katy telling her that "the people she loved and trusted let her down" (the people of America) by not voting for her...the judges weren't going to let their little dreamer down, darn it! I did laugh when Michelle was standing behind Ada in the back...they looked like teen and grandmother in one of those generational pictures where everyone has dresses made out of the same material but in their own style. Cade's got a really great smile. It kind of transforms his face. Someone mentioned the glamification of Catie last night - it was really obvious tonight with her hair and makeup.
-
Katie's totally going to use that hair of Cade's to make a poppet... Speaking of Cade - I liked Cade two week's ago when I first heard him, and I still appreciate his appreciation for classic rock and bringing it to the Idol stage. I want him to continue just for that. But now my pick is Maddie. Damn girl...she killed it two weeks in a row. I really liked Michael J, too.
-
This non-book reader hated it, but I hate cheating story lines in general. It certainly made me think less of Madeline, and it was really weird to me when she confessed it to her daughter. That's just...not a thing you "connect" with your children over.
-
So if I'm reading this correctly, there have already been 12 shows in which the judges whittled down the contestants (since this was episode 12), but there are at the most 5 shows that I get to vote on? Kind of makes me wonder why I'm even bothering to watch...

The definition of a tenant is someone who occupies land or property owned by someone else, ie, a renter. Therefore a renters association would be a group of people in a building or development owned by a landlord, and they're not unusual in apartment buildings.
