I'm very glad to hear this. I was afraid the ratings would be so bad after this terrible season that it would be cancelled. Hopefully the writers have paid attention, and will focus on more next season than Mary Shelley's love life.

Unapologetic: The Dietland After Show and More!
Nessie replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Dietland [V]
I watched the first episode and I won't be back. Aisha Tyler is way too concerned with pushing her political agenda then presenting an entertaining - or even educational - show, IMO. -
I may have gasped out MOHINDER! when I saw him... Sounds like you put a lot more thought into this than I did with my tongue-firmly-in-cheek post. :-) (I do have a paper journal though.) But I would hope I wouldn't be dead if I was paying them to put me into my dream world. This whole discussion is moo though, after watching the 2nd episode where it seems you can create any world you want.

With all due respect, I can't agree. Those home videos were my favorite part of a lot of the episodes, especially when you just watched something really crazy, and that's the part that's in the video! Rather than "self absorbed asshattery", I like knowing that most of the early seasons were based on things that actually happened.

The cast this season has been stellar but the show itself has been tedious. I'm not a big Picasso fan...I recognize his genius but I don't "get him" for the most part...so if I had known it was going to be what has essentially been an entire season of him being a jackass to one woman after another I wouldn't have bothered. Judging by the lack of responses in any thread for this season I'm not the only one who feels this way and I wouldn't be surprised if the show isn't renewed for another season. Bad choice on the part of the creators, writers, whoever. Did they really think this would make good TV? What a letdown after the excellent (IMO) Einstein season.

I don't agree. Vida is edgier and "socially relevant", if you care about that (I don't), so I can see why the critics would love it, but at least I like most of the people on this show, even if it's taken a couple of weeks for them to grow on me. Honestly, though, IMO, it's like comparing apples and oranges. They're two very different shows and to compare them does a disservice to both. The only thing they have in common is airing on the same night on the same channel.

I got the feeling that she didn't really know the girl from home, except casually from soccer. It seemed like they didn't even remember each others names, but just recognized each other's faces enough to say hi to a familiar face on the streets of New York. That could just be my reading of it, though.

I liked it enough and I'm in for as long as it lasts. I've always been interested in the concept of lucid dreaming, and I'm interested enough to see where this is going. Plus, Sendhil Ramamurthy will be back on my TV screen, which is always a bonus, IMO. Charlie told Mara (yes, I had to look up their names) that the reveries are constructed out of the subject's social media, right? So I guess people like me, who have virtually no SM presence, are screwed? I really don't want to end up back in high school because a bunch of people have tagged me in old pics. Maybe I would be in my favorite TV show from commenting on and liking posts here on PTV (both an intriguing and somewhat frightening thought!)? Hopefully they wouldn't use my PTV avatar and land me in Loch Ness...LOL

Yep. A quick google search of "living tissue banks" turned up over 4 million results (not all relevant, of course). One of the very relevant ones though is LifeNet in Virginia Beach, a neighboring city to where I live, and one of my co-workers regularly takes groups of high school students on field trips there.

I agree, but hopefully he will land a better show soon.

Ah well...can't say I'm surprised.

According to Amazon, it remains one of the most widely read novels in the English language. Go figure. The real head-scratcher for me is 50 Shades of Grey...I try not to be judgmental about anyone who chooses to read but I can't help giving a serious side-eye to anyone who will claim that as their favorite book. I am so torn on this show. I support anything that encourages people to read more, but I really didn't like the format of the show which I thought wasted way too much time (and I agree that they really pushed certain books over others) and I hate being "told" what to vote for. If I care about reading enough to tune in to this show, I daresay I already have favorites and I'm not going to vote for a book I haven't read because some actor tells me to. However, someone talking passionately about one of their favorite books and recommending it to me, like a few did, had the desired effect, and quite a few books have been added to my TBR list (which is already WAY too long). I've read a lot of the classics on the list (my mother was a big believer in us reading the classics growing up and made sure they were available for us) but I haven't read a lot of the more contemporary novels (except Harry Potter) - guess I have some catching up to do over the summer.

The Chew in the Media, and Ratings and Scheduling
Nessie replied to Null87366638292922's topic in The Chew [V]
My mother fell into this first group. She refused to watch The Chew for the longest time because she had watched both soaps since 1985 when we returned to the US from Europe (I don't think she watched them the first time she lived here in the 60's and 70's except when she had newborns/very small children). I don't think she blames The Chew anymore, but she never watched it to punish ABC. -

I was going to post something long and bitter about ABC's cancellation hammer but I have decided not to. I am watching Thursdays episode now, and like Clinton says, live your life with love, awe, and gratitude. I'm glad I had this show for the last 7 years - IMO it was and is the best show on daytime TV. No screaming harpies, no fighting over politics, just really good friends cooking good food and laughing over crafts. I was never able to watch it live because of work but DVR'd it every day and I will miss relaxing with it after a long day (sometimes long week) at work. -
I like both of them, too, but I really like Cade's. It's actually my favorite out of all the coronation songs, because it's the type of music I listen to. Honestly, though, I would have never guessed that was him, until the end when his growl kicks in. I guess that answers the question of where he would fit in music today (if he continues to make music like that), because that would fit right in on the rock station I listen to.

Yay, Maddie! I am so happy for her! Although honestly, once Gabby was eliminated I would have been fine with either of the top 2 winning. How sweet that Maddie and Caleb are a couple and that they managed to keep it (more-or-less) a secret until now. Maddie’s bashfulness when Caleb reached for her hand during their song was adorable. Did each of the top 3 rehearse a song with each other so they would be ready for any outcome? I thought it was cute when the rest of the top 10 (top 14?) rushed Maddie and when she couldn’t continue singing she told the others to take over. Katy P jumping in and pulling the mic away from Michael was not so cute… Caleb’s impression of Lionel Richie was awesome! His father’s impression of Katy not so much. I thought Katy’s song with Catie was lovely – it was the highlight of the night for me until Maddie was announced as the winner. I noticed that despite Ryan talking about how all the past finale nights have been big deals with over 600 million viewers and then Kimmel's time-waster with "souvenirs" of past seasons, ABC insists on calling next season "Season 2". So Kimmel had "Ryan's frosted tips from season 1", and yet THIS is season 1? Way to be confusing ABC. Trips to Hawaii, huh? Not quite a new car... All in all a pretty underwhelming, but ultimately satisfying finale.

This cancellation sucks. I really enjoyed this show and especially the cast. I guess I'm grateful we got a full season of Deception and it was all at once, instead of the shameful way they've treated shows in the past, like showing two episodes in January, then burning off the rest in the summer without any notice. I got an email from ABC on Tuesday trumpeting their new fall shows and quite honestly I don't care. I don't trust them anymore. They run endless seasons of the Bachelor/Bachelorette and any show Shonda Rhimes even glances at, but they've cancelled just about any show I've given a chance to and enjoye in the past few years pretty quickly. I feel like I'm done being disappointed by them for awhile.

I know we're supposed to be rooting for Megan but I just can't anymore. I was done with her the second she slept with Xavier. I hate cheating storylines, and I hate that her first instinct was to jump right into bed with someone else.

PODCAST S02.E20 Go Pirates!: I Thought Our Story Was Epic
Nessie replied to Primetimer's topic in Veronica Mars
This episode had a continuity error that always bothered me. When Veronica first meets Leo, he tells her that his name is also his astrological sign. But according to this episode, he is actually a Gemini (birthday of June 14th - I noticed because it's my birthday, too, although I am a *few* years older than Leo). Someone dropped the ball on that one. -
Thank you!

I'm weird...character deaths themselves don't bother me. What gets me crying are the reactions of their loved ones. That being said, the scenes of Barbara under the credits got to me in a way that totally surprised me, seeing as how she was never a favorite of mine. I was talking to my mom about this episode last night, and she said that the Kennedy assassination was a huge deal to her and her friends, and she was a 21-year old in Scotland at the time. She said her best friend cried for days and could talk of nothing else. Also, agreed about Phyllis. I just love Linda Bassett...she was my favorite in my much-missed Lark Rise to Candleford, as well (which I just discovered is on Amazon Prime, much to my delight! There goes my weekend...).

S23.E05: Stephen Mangan, Emilia Fox, Johnny Vegas, Jess Glynne
Nessie replied to Athena's topic in The Graham Norton Show
I have no trouble with Kevin Bridges accent, but then again, my mother is from Glasgow (even though after living in America more than 50 years her accent has mellowed so much I barely hear it), and a lot of her family still live there, so I guess I have an ear for it. His story of playing a show in America actually reminds me of a story my father used to tell of about shortly after he and my mother got engaged. He was in the Navy and stationed in Scotland when he met her, and when he called home to tell his parents, he asked his mom if she wanted to speak to his new fiancee. My Kentucky grandmother's response? "Well, son, I don't know...I'll try, but does she speak English?" LOL -
What a completely underwhelming night, IMO. The only performance I enjoyed was Caleb's "When Doves Cry", which came as a complete surprise to me because I'm really not a country fan, and I haven't been a Caleb supporter so far. But I thought it was haunting, so good on him. The rest? Meh. Cade was Cade, which means I enjoyed it for what it was, then promptly forgot about it. I didn't like Maddie, which makes me sad. I thought she would slay on "Nothing Compares 2 U", but it felt like she changed up the chorus just to be different from the original, and it felt inorganic and off to me, so that was disappointing, and I've never liked "If It Makes You Happy". I thought Michael was off, and I can't quite put my finger on why. Still haven't warmed up to Gabby, was disappointed in Jurnee, and Catie was there. All in all a disappointing night.

Ok, I get that, and I agree that should be an issue here. But I'm not talking about everyone else, I'm talking about Ranier in particular, and I thought you were too ("his attitude towards Jordan is beginning to border on unreasonable and double standards"). If I'm wrong I apologize. I just don't think it should be on Rainer to make it all better and act like a "true friend", when Jordan has been anything but. Raniner was betrayed by the two people he was closest to, and twice by Jordan. Maybe Jordan was forced by Nina, maybe not, but what was his excuse for sleeping with Tangey while she was still dating Rainer? Or have I mis-rememberd that? Rainer seemed to forgive him for Tangey, and I'm sure he'll eventually forgive Jordan for this, but I just can't fault him for taking some time. He's dealing with other stuff too. But by all means, lets make this into a racial issue.
