I don't see how that could really work, though, since Lance Barber has already been on BBT as Leonard's high school bully, and Sheldon never even hinted that he reminded him of his dad. Not everyone who watches this show has long memories or remembers every guest spot or story line, of course, but not every one watches Young Sheldon, either. Since The Speckerman Recurrence was filmed back in 2011 I'm sure Young Sheldon wasn't even a gleam in Chuck Lorre's eye, but personally, I just tell myself that in this show's universe, George Cooper didn't look quite so much like Jimmy Speckerman. I do like your other ideas, though - Stewart more than MeeMaw, because I didn't like BBT's version of MeeMaw. Now, if they would course-correct and use Annie Potts, I would support that 100%. I also think that if Professor Proton is to be the Ghost of Christmas Present, it should be Wil Wheaton, as that would not only be hilarious, it would make Sheldon crazy. Unfortunately, I think this is all moo, at least as far as Christmas ghosts are concerned.

Thanks for the info. I may have to give them a try, as fresh everything bagels are my favorites, and everyone else's apparently, as they are sold out if I don't get to the bagel store early enough. That kale sounds truly gross. I don't blame you for being turned off it.
-
Did you do the everything bagels that take two days, @jcbrown? I've been wondering if they are worth the time. A couple of years ago I made Daphne's Christmas Kale Salad for Christmas Eve dinner, and it was a big hit among my non-kale eating family. My oldest son even proclaimed that it tasted "like Christmas", and so now I have to make it every year.

That's true. Not to derail this thread too much with Chew talk, but I didn't even think about that, since he was there so seldom even before he was asked to step away. But still, I'm sure those guests were paid, as well, so they just missed out on 10 - 15 minutes of exposure for their newest project. It's hard for me to feel too bad for them, unlike TGABS contestants.

That's my biggest problem with the way this whole thing has been handled. ABC had to have looked into it at the time (late November), but they apparently didn't find enough merit in the accusations (Johnny denied them or said he didn't remember the incidents in question, so I guess that was good enough for them - at the time). Then the accusations against Mario became public and they panicked, fired Mario and pulled TGABS. The difference, of course, is that no one else on the Chew is being punished for their coworkers assholeniss (which is as it should be). In between this and ABC's habit of cancelling new shows after as little as two episodes, I seriously question why I even watch any shows on their channel any more.

S04.E10: Do You Hear What I Hear?
Nessie replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Fresh Off The Boat [V]
I just need to take a minute and say how much I love that they've kept the original opening sequence 4 seasons into the show. Every time I see them, I crack up about how how tall the kids are now - especially Eddie. -

S03.E01: Cake and Morning Treats Week
Nessie replied to Athena's topic in The Great American Baking Show
I think it's entirely feasible to do it in America. Yes, it's a big country, but it takes less than 7 hours to fly coast to coast. So make it somewhere in the middle (but somewhere with a major airport, or course), and contestants could even go home during the week like they do on the British version (fly in on Friday evening, fly home Sunday evening). I'm 99.9% positive they're not filming only on the weekends like the British version. No way American production companies are paying the judges and hosts to sit around all week twiddling their thumbs, not to mention paying for all those hotel rooms/guest houses/wherever they are staying (for the hosts and contestants). They're going to want to get in and out as quickly as possible. The contestants are probably getting a day or two at the most off between "weeks". If anyone knows anything different, though, I would love to hear it. Maybe someone from this season will pop in and give us the scoop, like...was it last year's winner? Amanda , I think? They probably can't go on message boards contractually until it's aired, though, and now that the whole thing has been scrapped, we may never know... -
I think the timing is stupid. They should have pulled the show when the story broke two weeks ago, not waited until a week after the premiere. It's not like this suddenly snuck up on them - I think it's a kneejerk reaction to the Mario Batali revelations (who I hope watches his empire crumble around him, although I feel sorry for his wife and kids). But I do agree with those who say pulling it now doesn't hurt anyone except the contestants. Iuzzini has already cashed his check. They should at least make the remaining episodes available online or On Demand or something for those of us who would like to watch them.

The bit with Andrew "dancing like no one is watching" was gold! Nick may not be able to unsee it, but I rewound it three times! Amazing! David Walton is definitely the best thing about this show, and Matt Murray as Nick comes in second. That's all I've got. The parts with the parents on the set and the pretentious director were just stupid, so the less said about that, the better.

I would give up my oldest son to have Alton Brown be a co-host (eh...he's 27, he'd get over it eventually), but 1. he's probably too expensive 2. he'd probably take over the show, and 3. he's probably too busy - I think I heard somewhere that he's bringing back Good Eats next year (not that side projects have ever stopped any of the other hosts). If there's room for another fabulous gay, Brian Boitano could be fun. I enjoyed the cooking show he had a couple of years ago that lasted about a minute.

Ugh, no. If it was either one of those, that would be the end for me. As much as I love Michael, Clinton, and Carla, I can't stand either of them. Valerie Bertinelli would be great, but yeah, she's based in California, so I don't know if she would do it. Same with Tiffani Theissen, who also still acts (as does Val). I second the Damaris Phillips and Sarah Moulton nominations. Someone mentioned Kristin Kish, who would be really cool, but she seems too low-key for tv hosting. How about a Volt brother? Or if we want more diversity, Jet Tila?

Brought this over from the episode 6 thread...Letty said in tonight's episode that she was 34 (a year younger than MD, but she could have been 34 when this was filmed). If Estelle was born in 1968 she would be 49, which would have made her 15 when she had Letty (and probably 14 when she got pregnant with her). Damn...I mean, I figured she had been a teen mom, but I didn't think she was that young. Anyone remember how old Jacob is supposed to be? If he is any younger than 13, Letty was not a teen mom, like I assumed she was. I'm with Javier. The lemon cookies are my favorites, too. I have to buy the Thin Mints and Tagalongs for everyone else, but that just means I get the lemon ones all to myself. :-) I was a little surprised to see the Girl Scouts at his door not once, but twice, and no parents in sight (unless I missed them). I didn't think they were allowed to go door-to-door anymore. Obviously Teo was going to be in the house, but I jumped anyway. Gotta love that Letty's code to Jav was for him to bring her a crispy green salad, and he immediately knew that meant something was wrong. This show is so good right now. I hate that there's only one episode left.

Taking my response to the episode 9 thread.

No, they're not. Very little of this series has followed the stories. The first episode followed the first story until about 3/4 through, then it took a big swerve and the endings were very different. Letty and Christian's hotel caper is in the 3rd story (although that too ends very differently - these stories are very, very twisted, IMO). I thought I had read they were going to use parts of the 2nd story in this season, but I haven't seen any of it yet.

America's Test Kitchen - General Discussion

Fine. You will hear nothing else from me on the subject. I really didn't mean to start a debate on the evolution of language, I was only commenting on a phrase that annoyed me. Peace out. -
America's Test Kitchen - General Discussion

I'm aware that both sog and sogged are real words, but I didn't find "sogged out" on any dictionary site (including Urban) so I doubt it is a proper usage. However, since it is apparently accepted, I await the day I hear Ina Garten explain how to avoid something getting "sogged out". I'll try very hard not to let it bother me, just like I try very hard not to let the liberal misuse of the word "literally" bother me. Ah times, they are a-changing and language with them. -
Not just the song, but the video. Have to admit I got a good laugh over all the products on the shelves being named "Jeff!". I just noticed that Madison is Duke from Better Things. I feel Paula on the Outlander thing...I'm just waiting for my chance to go through the stones too. It's the same in Virginia. We can buy wine and beer in grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations, but can only buy hard liquor from the state-run ABC stores - and we've only been able to buy it on Sundays since 2004.

America's Test Kitchen - General Discussion
Nessie replied to David T. Cole's topic in America's Test Kitchen
Ok, so I was watching the latest episode of Cooks Country today, or at least the latest episode my PBS station decided to show me, with the Basque Garlic Fried Chicken which looked amazing. Julia was talking about melting butter for the chicken and how they decided not to pour it over the chicken because they found it "sogged out" the crust, and it was like the segment came to a screeching halt for me. I've heard Dan say this before, too, and it's a pet peeve of mine...what's wrong with just saying it made the crust soggy (which is, like, an actual word)? -
That's what I think happened, @Crs97

Anyone else feel different about Friends now...
Nessie replied to neverclearone's topic in Friends [V]
I'm with you on your entire post (especially Joey's "hand twin", I mean, WTF was that, aside from "one of the stupidest story ideas ever"), but "Paper...snow...A GHOST!" will never not be funny to me. Phoebe was so sweet and genuinely quirky in the first season. Boy did they ruin her character. -
I haven't disliked this show in the past, but I hated pretty much everything about this one. Of course the concierge refuses to believe that Josh and Judy aren't a couple, despite Josh's repeated insistence that they are mother and son. Of course Josh meets a pretty girl at the spa and can't tell Judy about her because just as he is about to, she breaks down about how much she is enjoying their time together. Of course she finds out because he spends the last of their "lover's credit" on beers in the bar (really? He's that dumb? He knew she was tracking the money.) And I really hated the "sick" storyline. If I never see the tired old joke of grown people sneezing on others like 3 year olds again it will be too soon. I have never been too sick to reach for a kleenex or napkin, or at the very least, turn my head away from others. And then the person who got sneezed on gets sick immediately? What kind of super bug was that? Maybe I'm just cranky because my sinuses have been kicking my ass for the last couple of weeks, but the only thing I laughed at in this episode was Nick's "cure".

Agreed. I live in SE Virginia, and my son and some friends go to watch every launch at Wallops Island...they have a good spot a few miles away they always go to. One of my co-workers can watch launches from her house. Every launch is covered on the local news. There is NO WAY an explosion could be covered up - too many civilians would have witnessed it.

Garvey has worked at the funeral home since the first episode. We've seen her playing the piano during services, and I believe she also picks up bodies and delivers them to the morgue in the basement.

Typical Hollywood. Hire a 36 year old actor as your leading man. Hire a woman 7 years older to play his mother. At least 60 year old Mario Van Peebles is age appropriate to play Calvin's father, although I do find it amusing that his daughter is playing his granddaughter.
