I don't believe in hate watching, but I am definitely snark watching this show at this point. Their disappointment at not being allowed by the post office to dig up their lawn and parking lot was understandable, but did they really expect it? And Amaryllis' reaction "For any investigator to be told that you're investigating multiple homicides but your not allowed access to the scene of the crime is a really tough blow. If this were a case that was open and active right now we'd be getting a different answer." And Mudgett's nod...I mean, seriously? 1. You two are not the police, FBI, CIA, or any other type of investigators. You are a former CIA operative and current writer and peace activist (from what google tells me) and the crackpot great grandson of H. H. Holmes who are making a tv show and 2. This is not an open and active case. And yet you expect the post office to just let you dig up their lawn and parking lot? The most shocking revelation for me in this entire show would have been if they had said yes. My biggest question is who is paying for all this? Trips to New York and London, remote controlled submarines and access (apparently) to excavating equipment to dig up parking lots...is Jeff Mudgett paying for all this or the History channel? Anyone know? Does anyone know what he does for a living? No, wait...turns out that was my second biggest question. My biggest question is how on earth do you reverse the flow of a river? I had no idea such a thing was possible. Wow!

There's a lot they can show - kissing her neck, chest, working his way down her stomach - especially with the amount of nudity they seem to be comfortable showing. I wasn't specifically talking about whether or not Desna enjoyed it, she obviously seemed to, but to the original poster saying she thought Roller was the type to do dirty stuff in bed that leads to ecstasy. I disagreed, based on what we had been shown so far. To me he comes off as selfish in bed.
-
You think so? Judging from that scene of him and Desna in this ep, they went from horizontal to penetration in seconds with absolutely NO foreplay. Not my idea of a good time, even though she seemed to enjoy it. We could blame it on his eagerness for her after being apart for so long, but every time we've seen Roller in an intimate scene, he's been all about himself. He does clean up well, though, especially without the grill (I hate those things). I have to ask, where in Florida is this set? Is it 1986 there? Because that look Roller was sporting (faded denim jacket, white high tops) while having shrimp with Desna was straight out of a mid-80's Bon Jovi video, minus the hair. Or am I just hopelessly behind the times and that look is back? (Wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of not being "with it", usually by my children.)

This was the best episode so far, which isn't saying much considering we're talking about Doubt, but still...I did enjoy it. When the jury in the cannibal case came back with guilty I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME! so I was very glad to hear the judge react the same way. Interesting @Xantar (and terrifying) that it is based on a real case). Thought police, indeed, and kind of makes me rethink my rather recent decision to become more active online (not that I have cannibal fantasies or anything). I was so distracted by Tiffany's hair her entire first scene that I pretty much missed everything that was said after she entered the room. When Albert ripped into Sadie not once, but twice, I cheered him on. About damn time someone gave her a reality check.

Valerie's Home Cooking - General Discussion
Nessie replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Valerie's Home Cooking
I didn't know that about her father. My father passed away a couple of weeks before Christmas last year too. Christmas will never be the same, and it was always my favorite holiday. Wolfie reminds me so much of my younger son, it's crazy, not so much the way he looks, but his personality and the way he interacts with Val, so I always enjoy when he's on the show. -
This doesn't surprise me in the least. Last night's show was torturous, and I almost turned it off myself. I have watched this show since season 2 (except the kiddies last season) and the all-stars are not why I am here. And I am really not here for the Jenna show, so if last night is any indication of how the season is going to go, I'm out. Why did we get every second of both of her routines (minus, of course, the shots of the AH-MAZED faces of the other all-stars), while we barely got glimpses of others? Agreed. The way they cut both of Gabby's routines together was the one entertaining point in the entire show for me.

Sigh…this show. It makes me wish I was 17 again. Wait, make that 14. When I was 17, I had no time for boy bands, although I could always make time for cute boys, and this show sure has plenty of those. I think J-Hype and Mikey are the last of the chaff. J-Hype can’t sing and Mikey seems like a sweet kid but he’s out of his league here…there’s a reason he’s consistently in the bottom, and I think (hope) he and J-Hype (seriously – does this kid have a real name?) will be the next two to go home. Jaden and Andrew Bloom are, IMO, both very talented, and neither should be on this show. Jaden is just way too good to be in a boy band and overshadows the members of every group he’s in. Andrew Bloom is not a pop singer. I love his voice and style, but he needs to be standing on a stage, just him and his guitar, or fronting a band, but not singing and dancing as part of a “boy band”. So, on to the band. I think Chance and Devin are shoo-in’s (it’s been driving me crazy who Devin reminds me of and I finally realize that it’s Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell, maybe mixed with a Labrador puppy). Drew seems to be picking up steam, and I like him because he’s an admitted Mama’s boy, among other things. My picks for the other two would be Marcus (killer voice and great role model) and Michael Conor (what boy band doesn’t need a rapping violist?). Brady has a great voice, although I prefer his operatic voice, but he looks so angelic the mom in me would be constantly worried this business would chew him up and spit him out under a tree with a bottle of wine. As for Sergio, I know this is shallow as hell, and I do enjoy his voice, but his highwaters annoy me. (As an aside, I just realized 3 out of my chosen 5 were in the group that did Livin’ on a Prayer – my go-to Karaoke song which always brings the house down if I do say so myself. And it’s 4 out of my favorite 6 if I include Andrew Bloom. That probably says more about me than anything else, though.) I expect the final five to be Chance, Jaden, Devin, Drew, and either Michael Conor or Brady. Keep in mind, though, I have no idea what the kids are listening to these days, so I could be way off base. I am way (WAY) out of this show’s demographic, but I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve been enjoying everything about it, including the judges…excuse me…the architects, Rita and her goofiness, and even Tim, who I think can have his asshole moments, but knows his stuff and genuinely wants to help these kids improve. I will probably never buy any of their final product, but I might keep an eye out for Andrew Bloom’s solo work if he ever puts anything out.

America's Test Kitchen - General Discussion
Nessie replied to David T. Cole's topic in America's Test Kitchen
Agreed. I enjoyed that segment. Julia knows her stuff and has never shied away from giving her opinion. Which is why these cooking segments drive me crazy. Just let them cook! Goodness I'm cranky tonight. Yes they are. They are just all out of order, unlike previous seasons. And at this point, I'm very sorry I brought it up. -
America's Test Kitchen - General Discussion

I don't know if I'm explaining this properly. These are not old episodes...well, they are, but they are only off by one week. The description every week for the new one for the last month or so has been off by one episode from what was actually shown. This is not just the description on the guide, it is what is recorded on my DVR. I will select "America's Test Kitchen". It will say "1724 - Summer Dinner Party - Host Julia Collin Davison goes into the test kitchen with test cook Dan Souza to learn how to make the ultimate Grill-Roasted Beef Tenderloin. Next, equipment expert Adam Ried reviews gas grills in the Equipment Corner. Then, gadget guru Lisa McManus uncovers the best quirky gadgets. Finally, test cook Erin McMurrer shows host Bridget Lancaster how to make an elegant Pear-Walnut Upside-Down Cake." I will hit play and surprise! I will get lovely shots of a pizza and chicken tacos and be told that those are what I'm going to be shown how to make. And now, after showing episode 23 in place of episode 24 last week, I am not seeing listings for any more new episodes when according to the website, there should be at least two more. Now, this could all be the fault of my PBS station, true, and I should be glad to even have gotten most of the new season since according to some people on here, they haven't (and I am), but that still doesn't excuse the website being a mess, especially when it comes to the page for the latest season. You would think they would want it to look as professional as possible. I just reread this and it's a lot of complaining. Sorry. Anyone would think I don't like the shows and that's not true. I do still enjoy them for the most part, I just don't really like change and don't have a lot of patience with growing pains, especially when they're playing out on air. -
I think Maisy is a terrific little actress. This past week I have been catching up on the show. Yesterday I watched the episode where she was fighting with Deacon and she turned around and shouted "SCREW YOU" at him. I was all set to denounce her as a spoiled, entitled brat just like her sister when she sunk down behind the sofa in tears and I found myself sobbing right along with her. Now, full disclosure...I lost my father back in December, but I am much older than Daphne, and it's been much months compared to the weeks it had been in the show's time since Rayna's death, but I felt every bit of the pain and anguish she felt in that moment. Wow. I also agree with those who think she might be a better singer than her sister. I look forward to watching her career in the future. As for Lennon, I dislike Maddie so much that I find it hard to judge her acting ability. Would I like Maddie better if she were played by a more competent actress? And every time I think she might have figured it out and maybe won't make it all about her, she proves me wrong. I do enjoy her singing, though.

I'm wading into this topic with caution, as I'm recording and watching the episodes as they are aired (my On Demand doesn't seem to have the entire season). Right now, as the third poster, there's obviously no danger. LOL I like it. I dig the whole anachronistic, glam-rock vibe. I don't love the torture, don't get where they're going with the street kid or his sister - and don't really care, and hate the affair between Will and Alice, although a blind man could have seen it coming, but I'm in for as long as it lasts.
-
I agree with just about your entire post, Christina, except that Tiffany hadn't just gotten married. She just gotten engaged and her fiance had just moved to New York. That whole thing was weird and rushed to me and I guess it's entire purpose was to show how much she had changed while she was there. As an aside, I can't believe she won her case with her "gosh, sorry, it's my first time off the farm" act. My favorite parts of the episode were that the DA didn't recognize Nick and not only felt no remorse at it (damn straight) but gave him the pic of his victim, and that Sadie's mom didn't get parole after her outburst. This show can be way too PC for me sometimes (as can most TV these days), so those two scenes were refreshing to me.

America's Test Kitchen - General Discussion
Nessie replied to David T. Cole's topic in America's Test Kitchen
I hate to say it, but I feel like the show and the website have devolved into complete messes since Chris...ummm...left. For at least the last three weeks, the episode description has been for the next episode (ie today the description was for episode 1723 - Fast Food Makeovers but instead I got 1722 - A Spanish Affair). The website is a mess; the episodes go from 14 to 4 to 25 to 24 to 6 to 16 etc. But the absolute worst is that this new show format is making me hate Julia. When she stands there exclaiming "oooo" or "mmmm" or "oh, look at that!" as Dan demonstrates boiling potatoes to her, it just comes off as so fake. It irritates the crap out of me. At least Bridget doesn't seem to feel the need to fill every moment of silence with a random sound. I wish they would just let them cook recipes together and stop all this demonstrating to each other nonsense. -
You are both right, it wasn't explained. After a less then exhaustive google search, I found a script of the episode, which says this: And I, uh, remember putting Emily and Jason to bed, then I went in my room and, um I fell asleep. Next thing I remember, I'm choking. There's smoke everywhere. I can't see anything. I can't breathe. I tried to go to my kids' room, but there was just too much fire but I tried. Read more: http://www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk/view_episode_scripts.php?tv-show=doubt-2017&episode=s01e04 Then the DA tries to claim the father spent $85 on lighter fluid earlier that day.
-
I think the father said he fell asleep while smoking, but I could have made that up, as I was only half paying attention.

I didn’t care for this episode. I thought the verdicts for the two cases should have been reversed. The hacker dude should have been found guilty because hello? He did break the law. I felt bad for him but you can’t just go hacking into government databases because you don’t like the way something is being handled. The fact that a much larger conspiracy was uncovered was completely irrelevant, at least to me. As for the psychic case…ok, I’m not about to debate if psychic ability is real or not. But I can’t stand people who don’t get the result they want and so their remedy is to sue and get their money back. Like the psychic pointed out, he HAD gotten his life together a lot after he started to see her, so she did help him. He just hadn’t gotten the exact result he wanted, so like a spoiled child he turned around and sued her, then had the nerve to apologize to her afterward, like he didn’t want to do it but his boyfriend made him? Whatever Not!Ricky. Take a seat. That said, I am glad that ABC is airing the rest of the episodes, as I enjoyed it, and was sorry to see it pulled after not even giving it a chance to find an audience. Personally, I have nothing against Katherine Heigl, but I don’t really understand why she keeps getting so many chances if everyone hates her so much. But then again, can you really call it being given a chance when a show gets pulled after only two episodes, then relegated to the relative Siberia of summer Saturday nights with no fanfare?

They did their homework. The sign outside the Whiskey in the first few minutes of the show advertised Mickey Ratt which was Ratt's original name and they played the Whiskey many times in the early 80's. They actually dropped the "Mickey" in 1981 but I'm willing to cut them some slack on the year just for pulling out that little detail. I also liked the way they showed the bands onstage without actually focusing on them so you could almost believe that was Ratt or Billy Idol on stage. They didn't cheap out at all with the music and I really appreciate that. This is the soundtrack of my early teens and I will always love it. As a matter of fact, I still listen to most of it today.

Yes, that's true. What I meant is that Jackson and Ritchie actually wrote the song, so they probably own the rights (or their estate, in Jackson's case). The actual point, though, is that Bob Geldof does not.
-
Bob Geldof didn't have anything to do with We Are The World. That was Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. Bob Geldof created Band Aid and wrote Do They Know It's Christmas along with Midge Ure. I was such an English new wave snob that I HATED We Are the World and that they "copied" Band Aid...no matter that it was for a great cause!

Agreed although some it it took me out of the show. Not the tech stuff, I thought that was fine. But like when Vega said her mother hit 60 and wanted another baby. It looks like her brother is at least 6 or 7 right? So then, I do the math and think if it's 2065 and her mom is at least 65, and that means she was born around 2000, which means she was around marrying age after 2020 and would people really still be using Tinder to find a mate after 2020? And is Tider still around in 2065? Also, presumably her father was around the same age as her mother, so would someone born around 2000 really have a vinyl collection? My kids were born in the 90's and I intend to leave them my beloved record collection but I really don't expect them to keep them...maybe a few, but not all of them. And would Iggy Azalea be on vinyl? And that answers that question! Thanks Sparger Springs! Agree with this as well, somewhat. I see a lot of Abby Mills in Vega, especially in the way they are dressing her, but almost nothing of Crane in Dash, except as stated above - awkward white dude. But the whole tone of the show feels different to me. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the premiere ep of Sleepy Hollow, but I generally give a show at least 3 episodes before I decide to keep it on my DVR or not. I don't know if this show will last that long, but I'm willing to give it another two weeks.
-
My sister says this is why seasons (or series) of British tv shows are so short! LOL It was driving me crazy trying to figure out where I'd seen her before, but then Violet mentioned "her Bert", and it clicked. I took as a shout-out to Doc Martin, since my PBS station is currently showing the episodes where Jenny and Bert Large get together.
-
I kind of like it. Maybe? I could never do it because my hair is curly, but I have a friend who's very adventurous with her hair color, and I could picture her doing that (although it actually might be too tame for her).
-
Right??? I was shocked when I googled him and found out that Dan Byrd is 29!
-
Was this Emma's second or third "first" Christmas? I loved this Emma! I rewound the part where she said "bye" as Ben went out the door about 10 times...yeah, I'm a sap for these things now that my kids are grown but not yet old enough to make me a grandmother (touch wood!). She was the best part of an otherwise meh episode for me.
-
I agree, she's acting like a spoiled brat. I think her reasons for not wanting to leave LA are bunk. Her children are how old? I hardly think it will hurt them to leave LA for a while...hell, I grew up a Navy brat and we never stayed in one place for more than 2 - 3.5 years at a time, including moving to Europe for a combined 7 years. I may not have appreciated it at the time, but I'm now I'm so glad I had those experiences.
