  1. There are a lot of Adult Swim series where I wonder why they’re still running. MTM is one of those. I dunno . . . the absurdity and occasional breaking of the fourth wall is funny, but it just seems . . . meh. The series in a nutshell: “A little birdie told me you were down here. Also, a ghost and a Chinese girl and Mike Tyson.” Pan out to show MTMT waving.
  2. Finding out you have to deal with that many changes in reality should rank as annoying as talking to Dr. Manhattan, a guy who knows every word of the conversation. Maybe Chester likes a certain brand of Marinara sauce. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
  3. I don't follow the series as closely as others, so I have to ask: were "The sky is falling!" posts as prevalent during the Capaldi era the way they are now?
  4. So. I am good with Chester. I can identify with him geeking out over every little thing at STAR Labs. But I feel he has to dial it back. REALLY far back. Interesting episode involving post-Crisis fallout and Barry having to accept the new reality . . . one where Grodd may have seen the error of his ways. Given the amount of shit Grodd has given Barry, can you blame the guy for not trusting the telepathic gorilla? But they put aside their differences, and Grodd is more neutral than evil. For now, anyway. Also, we get a fusion with a super-fast Grodd with a bolt on his chest as he fights Solovar. Who is voiced by Keith David. I get the criticisms of budgets and characters being too spread out, but I'm still entertained. Meanwhile, Siri continues to run around being shady (not outright evil), and it turns out Eva is as well. I'm not sure how much more mirror-based hinjinks I can take . . . though Eva burning her arms sticking them through the mirror was jarring. Honesty, couldn't Barry have found his parents' resting place through the Internet? Seems like a no-brainer. Wally in two weeks, actually. And I gotta love how he comes back. "The Speed Force is wrecked. What did you do, Barry?" Because if there's someone to blame in situations like that, it's Barry.
  5. Um, guys? I think Caity Lotz might like Hong Kong-based actions films. I think she likes those a little too much. The cheese is packed on this week, as we find out Genghis Khan isn't as chill a dude as he was portrayed in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. I was wondering why he appeared in 1997. Turns out it took 700 years to escape his grave. Anyway, we get full-on HK action, Genghis adapting Nate's love of motor scooters in an attempt to kill Prince Charles and take over Hong Kong. BTW, what was the date that Hong Kong changed hands from England to China? I'm just wondering about the potential irony of two royals getting killed in vehicles. Since the Legends manage to screw up time from time to time before Crisis, we learn she and Behrad (I still have to look up his name because I don't want to type "Zari's Bro" and be done with it) were an item. Nice bit of retcon. Charlie revealing herself as one of the Fates, and that the formation of Earth-Prime pained a bigger target for her sisters to kill her? Impressive plot twist, and it ties into John's arc. While I'm still not compelled to look for episodes of Constantine online, I will say that the bastard has grown on me. He wins up getting a stay of execution, but it doesn't look like he's going to run out on Astra. Also, we get some bonding with Ray and Gary, the latter still being written as a giant pain in the ass. He's manageable . . . for now, anyway. For me, he manages to continue being a dope (vital since Ray was away), and he indirectly taught Ava a lesson: on the Waverider, BRANDING IS EVERYTHING. Who doesn't laugh at the team fawning over "Scoots McGoots," while Ava is all, "Hello? I built a detection system to make our job easier!"?
  6. Between Batwoman and Supergirl, it was a night of heroines letting go of guilt. Also, Mary seems to have finally put two and two together. And Sophie has to know by now, right? Also: am I naive for thinking that last bit of heavy kissing on a rooftop wasn't that gratuitous? Nocturna was fun as VOTW go. Of course, Alice continues to go the extra mile in her crazy. The team-up with her sister was sweet, though, even if she did point out Mary to Nocturna.
  7. Anyone want to set a pool as to when we'd get an ending with John Oliver doing John Oliver-type stuff? I'm thinking fourth episode. Man, Modi sounds like a nightmare . . . and I thought as much when I saw the president gush over him. Funny that he's been running India for years, and yet John looks to have aged faster. And that guy gets sporadic breaks throughout the year. But yeah, Modi sees to like lighting matches several feet from the fireworks factory. Damn, I suppressed the elephant dung/water bit. I'm really hoping this isn't LWT upping the ante with every episode, since "elephant shit" is more disgusting than "shaved poodle butthole." As for Michael Bloomberg . . . what is it about running New York that makes these idiots think they can handle the White House?
  8. Okay. So, basically, Wayne Brady is the Big Bad for this season. I mean, he's commanding the Markovian forces, and he's very overpowered, so he would qualify. I'm sure Tobias, Lady Eve, Odell and poor La La would understand. Gravedigger is an interesting hybrid . . . the name comes from DC Comics' Men at War book, where a black solider turned into a secret operative by the Pentagon, complete with a cross-shaped scar on his face. It looks like the writers have stolen been inspired by Truth: Red, White & Black, a miniseries where we learn of a black man who survived dubious experimentation, becoming the "black Captain America." Here on Black Lightning, Tyson Sykes is now apparently the first official metahuman, and his biology made the Greenlight experiments possible. That's a lot to take in. at one shot. Of course, there's a lot of other plates spinning on this sticks. Painkiller gains control of Khalil long enough to almost kill Jen, breaking her trust. Brandon almost kills Dr. Jace again, and she reacts like the oddly-likable sociopath that she is. Lady Eve and La La stare each other down, and then she unleashes some Winter Solider-programs words on him, which means he's her pawn. And Markovia invades Freeland some more. So, yeah, par for the course for this series.
  9. Curious . . . anyone out there watch the Broly movie? The new one, I mean.
  10. I forgot this was the 100th episode. Now I'm wondering when Legends reaches that mark. Given how many episodes the CW doles out, they might not get to that 100th episode for ages. Watching Kara and Mxyzptlk try to "fix" things . . . haven't the other two "Arrowverse" series dealt with their pasts and alterations thereof? Arrow had their anniversary smack-dab in the middle of the "Invasion" crossover, and we had the main cast (along with Sara and Ray) in a weird "nothing went wrong" reality set up by the Dominators. Flash had Barry and daughter Nora get stuff from past seasons. This is an interesting trend. Thomas Lennon works well as Mxy. I think the only portrayal of the character that was done better was by Gilbert Gottfried in Superman: The Animated Series. Unnerving teleportation, fast-forwarding through old episodes, bringing out "Betamx" with old tapes . . . great stuff. And Kara finally accepts that she needs to accept what's happened between her and Lena. I don't think there was never a moment where things would have worked out with a revelation, but that's more Barry Allen's territory. Unlike Barry, Kara got out for any fallout of altering her past. Cat Grant got murdered in one of the realities. Anyone else thing she took as many of her killers with her before she died?
  11. I have no idea what's going on. I will give Chibnall credit for going big. It's just that there was a lot of stuff in his episode that I couldn't wrap my head around. Basically, this was a time where the Cybermen have made humanity all but extinct, the Doctor got as angry as I've seen since her regeneration (fitting given the situation, and Jodie pulled off the "I'm the Doctor, that's why!" thing very well), Graham was extra quippy, and we learned about a boy who grew up to be a man, and he survived a bullet and a fall from a cliff at the same damn time. And, apparently, he's become the Head Cyberman. That's unique, right? I don't think the Cybermen have had anything approaching a leader like, say, Davros. Maybe Mercy from "The Next Doctor"? Oh, and apparently, the deus ex machina warp thing connects to Gallifrey, for reasons where I don't think I'll be satisfied with the answer. And the Master pops out before he menaces the Doctor in next week's finale. And with all that, there's still the matter of Ruth. If she doesn't show up, the earliest we could get any sort of closure with her is on Christmas. That's ten months away . . . and that's if Chibnall and the BBC agree to that. I'm ready for next week. I honestly don't swing to either extreme in terms of tone. I just want to have a good time watching. This season has upped the ante higher than the previous season, but I fear the results might be lacking in the larger picture.
  12. Reality Blurred: one TAR33 team is from another CBS reality series. Of course they are. Even when we know we might not see that season until next year, the network still likes turning the screws. Also, another team got identified, and there’s concern whether things will change due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
  13. I think all three will have new seasons. I know Dr. Stone has been confirmed for a second season. Also, I’d expect we’d see the second season of Mob Psycho 100 in the near future.

  17. Question before I go to bed: am I a hardass for looking at the cast of Survivor: Winners at War and thinking Natalie is the only "true" Racer that was cast? Apologies, but there's no general "Past Seasons" thread. Not much going on with me at the moment. I'm not scratching myself raw waiting for TAR32, but I am very annoyed.
  18. Reminder: Toonami block now starts at 11:30 beginning this Saturday. The finale for Dr. Stone airs this week, then My Hero Academia moves into that slot. I heard that the larger block was too expensive for Adult Swim to keep. Why is that? I don't know anything about the economics of the television industry.
  19. Bumping up. I think the Overhaul arc is officially over, as Deku manages to save Eri. Of course, there's a lot of collateral damage, including Sir Nighteye getting punctured and Togata's Quirk getting wiped out, killing the hero's career before it starts. Lots of fun stuff, including oddly sweet moments with Toga and Twice. Gotta love how they didn't want to work with the Yazuka, and they drove one of their bigger guns into a rage by taunting him. ETA: I'm still getting sketches. Here's Endeavor, Toga and Stain.
  20. Anybody else watching? I was wrong about the elf blood thing . . . basically, the elves have possessed a wide array of Magic Knights, and it's more about power. Yuno being Yuno, he's possessing the power, but his mind hasn't been taken over. Asta now has a sword that can exorcise the elves out of his friends' bodies. Latest episode had him saving Luck with help from Magma and Vanessa. Then they meet up with the other Black Bulls. I liked Asta's reaction seeing Gordon and Grave. "What happened to you? Oh, you're always like that." Gauche has been possessed . . . once again, if he gets killed, it wouldn't be that bad. Charmy looks possessed, but it turns out she's pissed that her garden got wrecked. Her "sheep" feed the team, then Super Secret Black Bull Henry turns the ruins of their headquarters into a mecha bull thing. Why not? Luck getting saved was poignant, as he walks away from an image of his mother to rejoin his friends. I liked the individual shots in his dream: Gordon is inaudible, and Gauche is showing off a pic of his sister as his nose bleeds.
  21. Checking in again. We're at a point where Tanjiro has two other demon slayers for company: cowardly Zenitsu (who manages to be a badass only when he's unconscious) and Inosuke (psycho who wields two swords, has a boar's head, and have little manners). I'm getting how the latter is popular. Maybe part of it is that Inosuke runs around shirtless, and he doesn't wear a weirdly tacky jacket?
  22. Erik has fun with last night's episode.

In my head, Gaylord Perry is calling Cooperstown, making sure he’s still enshrined. “I mean, I maybe got a few balls sticky. Not like I had an elaborate system. If I cheated, I mean. Which I did not.” ETA: Mets will play the Asterisks four times, including two games at home in early June. If the fans will be setting the bar for the “savages” that attend Yankees games, here’s hoping they set it high. 😈😈😈
  24. Bumping up because the finale is this Saturday. The first season will probably end before the heavy shit starts up. I advise reading the manga if you can. More characters, more Senku using science, and more unlikely 21st Century technologies coming to the Stone World. Oh, and I got this sketch at a small con a few weeks ago. Not a bad likeness, right? I got references for Tsukasa and Chrome, and I might print up stuff for Kohaku and Gen next.
  25. Reality Blurred: Andy is getting tired of the Rob worship from people who actually won the game. I can't say that I blame him, though I'm guessing the benefit of having Rob as a provider outweighs the immediate need to vote him off. Still, Andy get a few choice quips out of his system: Ouch. 😁 I guess Andy believe the show basically gave Ben the million bucks.
