Ok, after reading all of this, I am officially going to the dark side and getting the Kindle version of Jill's book. Reading the excerpts posted here, I am really amazed at how strong she has been. It must have been difficult to stand up to the bullying producers of the show regarding the trip to Nepal and not filming her honeymoon. She had always gone along with everything her family and the producers wanted to that point. I really want to read all of this for myself because she gives an interesting peek behind the curtain of reality TV and the subsequent events we saw like the Megyn Kelley interview. She has exercised some poor judgement (trying to have a VBAC with Sam with no prenatal care comes to mind), but it does sound like she and Derick are a team in this. I was most concerned that this was Derick telling a story of a petty feud over money and using Jill to do it, but given JB's abhorrent behavior, there is so much more to it. If my in-law sent my spouse an itemized bill for parenting them, I would be ready to have a smack down. Like others here, I also want to buy the book because it twists the knife just a little further for JB. Maybe he and Kody Brown can compare knives in the kidneys.

My mother is an accountant who specializes in tax preparation for individuals and corporations. She took the CPA exam, but hated working in a public accounting firm, so instead became and enrolled agent. She has to take continuing ed to keep up her license and part of that is ethics. She has refused to sign off on returns before because she feels that something is hinky, because she can lose her license if it is found that she knew something was off. In this case, it's possible the CPA (if the person preparing was actually a CPA) took JB at his word. I'm not sure if he genuinely thought Jill had been paid that he would face consequences for this. It sounds like since he cooperated that he didn't realize anything was wrong. Now if he continued knowing she wasn't getting paid, he could be criminally liable. What amazes me in all of this is that JB knew Derick had a degree in accounting and still pulled this. He is definitely not as smart as he thinks he is. Jill is a lot less petty than I am because I would have been tempted to bill him right back for all the labor costs. The childcare alone for something like 10-15 kids for so many years (including after she was married) would add up pretty quickly.

Not only that, but the "adults" could get into screaming matches and ruin everything, but the kids had to act like it was the best Christmas ever or they would get in trouble. Nothing like trying to smile while opening a gift with your eyes filled with tears and trying so hard not to cry. And getting yelled at for it. Ask me how I know. Savannah may have been hurt in the short run, but she got off better by not having to make an appearance at the Precious Moments Emporium.
-
Kody made such a big dill about how his sons couldn't come to Christmas at the Precious Moments Emporium unless they "cleared the air". That meant unless they put up with him yelling at them for however long it took to force an apology out of them. I doubt that would have ever happened BTW. But his point was that he wasn't going to play fake happy families with them when he felt slighted. I wonder how he would have felt if Ysabel had told him the same thing. That she would not play fake happy families with him until they cleared the air about how he treated her around her surgery. First telling her to go across the country by herself, then not even calling or sending anything to express support. I felt bad for her that she had to go there and pretend everything was fine.

I really don't understand what happened with the Moriah's music. Her story makes no sense. Why would she not upload her own stuff to her own account? Unless Olivia and Ethan were paying for it and decided to stop and she got mad. Also, I noticed that she conveniently neglected to mention that she blocked Ethan and Olivia. She made it sound like they cut her out. Ethan seemed to be saying that Moriah lied about Olivia stealing Moriah's music. Honestly, I've heard enough of her stuff to say that it isn't worth stealing. The baptism thing may be a storyline, but I think her depression is real. She is grasping for anything when what she really needs is a good therapist. I doubt Jesus is going to fix whatever is going on with her. Plus, I am getting whiplash with her. Last episode she was supposedly so happy and living her best life in her loft apartment, now she is talking about how she hit bottom and needs to be baptized again. I really appreciated that Olivia's sister was so honest with Olivia about how she felt growing up. Being a second mom to Moriah and Micah is not the same as being their friend. Olivia needs to have friends who don't need her to rush in and fix things for them. And she needs to resist the urge to do that because I can tell you it becomes a habit that can damage friendships or leave you with only people who are just endlessly needy. Lydia Grace made an excellent point in telling Olivia that she has similarities to Kim. I hope Olivia takes that onboard and recognizes when she is getting too controlling with Ethan. He can be a weak reed which can cause her controlling nature to come through. Not good for a marriage. Kim was so already involved with that guy. I suspect she may have been involved with him before she even left Barry. I wonder what ultra religious Lydia would say about that if she figured it out. Kim and her friend were extremely obvious about it. The less said about Barry and Micah working out, the better.

Carlin and Evan: But Mostly Carlin!
Meow Mix replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Bringing Up Bates
After reading all of this, it makes me think cheating must be rampant in these communities. In all my years in church, I never remember cheating being discussed like this. And while some couples I knew went through a honeymoon phase where they were joined at the hip for a short while, no one was this insecure. I can't imaging being with someone always afraid that if someone in the drive through smiles at them that they will fall into bed with them. This is just such an unhealthy way to go through life. -
Honestly, I think Ethan and Olivia need to move on from each other. They married way too young and had no clue what they wanted in life beyond getting out of dysfunctional family situations. I see a pattern developing with them where they have a blow-up, Ethan finally understands where Olivia is coming from, they move somewhere else or go on vacation, Ethan then has to go back to Cairo for something and will inevitably see at least some of his family. He will then get mad at Olivia because she doesn't want to deal with his family because either Kim or one of her flying monkeys whispers in his ear. Then it's back to more trouble in the marriage and another blow-up. Olivia needs to realize that while the show may bring some rewards, it is ultimately not worth it to ruin her own mental heath and waste her 20s this way. And what happens if the birth control fails? I was struck by the fact that Micah actually used the term MLM when describing the scam Kim was running with Ethan's credit card. I have no doubt Ethan got some sort of check, but I guarantee that it didn't cover what Kim was charging. And I firmly believe she kept most of the profits for herself. Micah should let her have control of his credit card so he can see how this all works. I try to remind myself that Moriah is really a damaged little girl under all the skin tight clothes and troweled on makeup. But her behavior so far is really awful. I have no doubt she was Kim's flying monkey while she was still living with Ethan and Olivia. I also think she loves drama and always has to have some going on. First it was Kim, then it was Max complete with a months-long depression where she wrote some crappy teen angst song, now it's Olivia brainwashed her. I worry because she is so stunted that someone is going to take advantage of her and it won't end well.

Honestly, I didn't think Jill had that in her. She has tried to be so diplomatic publicly. JB must have really pushed her over the edge to get that reaction. I do hope all of this is Jill's choice to go public and not just Derick pushing her to spill it all. Derick has a vendetta against JB which is understandable, but he needs to realize that he is hurting Jill probably more than JB. I hope this book finally gets him to move on and live his life rather than staying mired in his anger. I do wonder about the sibling reaction. There's 17 people there (not counting the felon) and most are adults. Some are still dependent on JB, but as much as he might like to, he can't control their private thoughts. There has to be some different feelings with that many people involved. Despite JB's attempt to create a bunch of little robots, that's just not how human beings work. He can muzzle them with financial control, but some may hold a private space where they despise him and are glad Jill was able to make this public.

You and I share a brain. That was my first thought as well. Tozer sounds like that guy in high school who could get the good weed. If Jessa thinks her umpteenth pregnancy is going to distract from that quote from Jill's book, she is crazy. JB physically threatening Jill and Jill calling the felon a pedophile is not something anything can distract from. Though I do like the idea of a baby being fathered by JRod's microphone demon.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
Meow Mix replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
Nothing is going to divert attention if the excerpt from the book is any indication. -
Ah yes, the Bert and Ernie bedroom. Still makes me laugh. When some of you said this place was below Massilon, I didn't think that was possible. I stand corrected. how does Jill find these creepy places? You know she found it and sent him there. Why was Massilon abandoned? One thing that stands out to me about that awful bedroom for the boys is that I would worry that that bunk bed was going to collapse. Even those emaciated kids are probably too heavy for that top bunk. And how does whoever has the misfortune to sleep in it get in there? Does the crib rail flip down or something?

People do strange things in abuse situations and I do believe Kody is an abusive father. Maybe not physically, but definitely emotionally. Mykelti was very vulnerable when she was a young teenager and had some problems in the family and Robyn took her in. Robyn preyed on her vulnerability and got a free nanny and a lifelong devotee in return. And once again Kody gets a pass on Mykelti getting excluded form the family and all the blame falls on Christine. Even though the shunning came from Kody over whatever petty thing he was bent out of shape about.

I think the Sun reads here and on Reddit and cobbles stories together from that. That being said, I have believed for a while that Kody was not as accepting of Leon as he appeared on camera. I don't believe for a second that there was any TLC contractual obligation around that, Kody knew that if he expressed his true feelings, the show would lose its main audience. Not only did Leon come out as a lesbian originally, but they had several piercings and we all know how Kody feels about those (unless they are on Robyn or her kids). Then they came out as trans and Kody was probably very vocal off camera about that. I doubt the Sun quote is accurate, but it is pretty easy for any of us to make up things Kody says because he is totally predictable. I also thought originally that Gwen offered to have her wedding filmed and TLC declined. Not sure where I heard that, but somehow that got into my brain.

Wow, this was uncomfortable to watch. I can't believe the crew was there filming that argument. Things I noticed: So, was Kody going to see his man buddies in person all throughout COVID? What about his precious protoculls? All of them are idiots, but I think some of them are starting to see through him. Robyn threw in a justification for needing the nanny. She claimed Kody was gone so much she just had to have child care help. So was he gone during COVID? And however did Christine cope with homeschooling way more kids as well as working a night job? She never had a nanny, so why does Sobbyn need one? I felt so bad for Meri even though she has brought some of this on herself. She was in a lose-lose situation regarding Christmas Eve. Kody wasn't going to say he didn't want Janelle or her kids there, he was going to make her the bad guy. I could see him then running to Janelle and Christine and saying Meri didn't want to invite anyone for Christmas Eve. He and Robyn are a perfect match. And Meri was pretty insightful in her TH where she referenced that her house was just her house while Robyn's house was Kody and Robyn's house. By the time that was filmed, she knew the score and was done. Though whoever did hair and makeup should be fired for letting that huge piece of hair stick out during Meri's THs. I really hope Janelle has been able to get some financial settlement. I really felt bad for her when the full realization hit her that she was financially screwed. I loved that she pointed out that Robyn had her house and she was finally realizing that no building was ever going to take place on that barren land. I did have respect for her that she acknowledged that she was partly responsible because she let it happen. She didn't play the victim like Kody and Robyn constantly do. The argument was heartbreaking for Janelle. I think she is one of those people who stuffs the anger down and finally something just causes it to explode. I was glad the crew had enough respect to turn off the camera after Kody left instead of filming her breaking down. That would have been a lousy thing to do. Kody and the drinking hot water was just bizarre. Is being excessively cold another symptom of overuse of steroids? Because I think that is part of why he is acting the way he does. And his pony tail made him look like Gidget. Would someone please take away Kody's word a day calendar? This time around we had culpable repeated endlessly and then collude. I really appreciated that Meri actually came to Janelle's defense on that one. Kody will never face the fact that he alone ruined the relationships with his kids and their mothers had very little to do with it. I think it's interesting that we are getting a lot of behind the scenes info that they watch the show and have heard what is said in the TH interviews. I think that was what pushed Janelle over the edge because Kody not only badmouthed her, but also her children. If I were a parent and someone said the things he said about her boys, it would be on. I'd have the scissors out to cut off that Gidget pony tail. I don't care about other people, but Kody made such a big deal about trying to protect everyone, then chose not to do the one simple thing that would have protected the whole family. They have chosen to spill their private lives all over TV, so we get to comment on them. The choices of people not on TV are none of my business.

Not only that, but he clearly made an obscene gesture directed at her in a public place. The mother of 6 of his kids. Some moral exemplar there. Things I noticed: Christine was giving him nothing in the lunch scene. You could see his anger mounting because nothing he was doing was getting under her skin. When he suggested counseling, she said she was all for it. You could see on his face that he was pissed. I loved how she said in the TH that she knew he wasn't going to do any counseling. I'm getting ln line for wanting to know what was said on that group chat. While they did tell the parents about the gift exchange, that wasn't an invitation for Robyn to come in and start stirring the pot. It sounded like she wanted a Zoom call right then and there to organize everything (and stick her nose in), but in all likelihood, several of the participants were not in a position to get on a Zoom call while they could send a quick message in chat. Of course when everyone didn't immediately jump to do what she wanted, she started playing the victim and saying they didn't love her or her children. I suspect some of them had enough of her at that point and the gloves came off. I also wonder what Gwen said that escalated things. Either way, it must have been bad because Christine was not optimistic that everyone could work things out. I was puzzled by Christine's reaction to Paedon's remark about Kody and Robyn's immune systems. I thought she was being ridiculous saying that they were sicker than most people. I have a friend whose father was in the hospital on a ventilator for 11 days. That is being sicker than most people, not Kody's ass pain. Plus, given her recent behavior on social media, that scene has not aged well for her. A lot has been said about the silly ear piercing. It's just creepy not to mention lousy of Kody that he wouldn't show the slightest bit of support for Ysabel yet acts like it's a big dill that Aurora needs her fake dad to get her ears pierced. I liked Janelle's little Christmas tree. I also think the Thanksgiving celebrations with Janelle and Christine looked like fun while the one at Robyn's looked depressing. So, was the local bordello having a yard sale and Robyn's pick was that bed? That thing was tacky.

And this is the real point. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. Kody is really angry because his kids don't even give him a thought, not because they hate him.
-
If Kody is humble, I'm Cindy Crawford. It's sad if true that Mykelti thinks she has a good relationship with Kody just because he doesn't treat her with disdain. It's sad when things are so bad, that mediocre efforts look good.

At least at Gwen's wedding Meri and Leon looked pretty happy together. So whatever happened, it doesn't sound like Meri was purposely excluded. She may have understood that they were tired of waiting and just sent in the paperwork and got it done. It could also be that they wanted the legal protection in case one of them needs to be hospitalized.

Christine Brown Woolley: Nacho Sister Wife Anymore
Meow Mix replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
I have no problem with Christine striking while the iron is hot even if I think some of what she is hawking is unethical. As stated, no one is forced to buy anything she is selling. I do however take issue with her asking for wedding sponsors. No matter who did that, I would think it was tacky. Pay for your own wedding and have the wedding you can afford. You will be married at the end either way. -
Carlin and Evan: But Mostly Carlin!
Meow Mix replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Bringing Up Bates
I thought the only golfing Evan did was at Top Golf. BTW it amuses me that these fundies are so obsessed with Top Golf. The first I ever heard of it was a story talking about how many people go there, get drunk and hit golf balls all over the place of just fall over while attempting to golf. Golf clubs aren't cheap. My brother who had a real job in an accounting firm had a used set for years before he spent money on a brand new set. Evan of course has no job and will probably lose interest in the clubs after a few weeks just like the outdoor griddle he just had to have. I think the only reason he hasn't lost interest in the Tesla is because it is a status symbol. Regarding their trip to Dollywood, not sure what the weather is like there, but here it has been brutally hot. Poor Layla must have been miserable. -
As if we needed any more proof that JillR is reading here and on Reddit, she now references the chair in the bathroom where she does her recording. I an waiting to hear how persecuted she was on the cruise because they wouldn't let her swim in the pool in her street clothes that she insists are modest swimwear. No one wants the pool closed because she clogged up the filter. The one good thing is that DBD will be able to eat himself into s stupor at the buffet. I've been on RC once and skipped the stop in Labadee because I didn't expect it to measure up to Holland America's private island Half Moon Cay. That place is amazing. You can swim or just walk along the crescent shaped beach. They also have all kinds of water activities and serve a nice lunch on the island that is included in the cruise price. Not sure if RC does the same on Labadee. It sounds like Plexus has some sort of evening activity that is not an actual meal. I guess people can go to the dining room and have dinner before or after the event. So, DBD won't go hungry. Of course her poor kids will as usual.

I think Timbits might have had at least a little ambition in the beginning. I suspect when JRod was yammering on about his dream of being a missionary pilot some sweet friend suggested that Moody was the place to go for that sort of training. He would get all the religious and pilot training in one place and be set. He latched on to that, but BME was not going to have one of her offspring so far away from her. The only reason she tolerated that with Nurie was because Nurie was marrying Anna DUGGAR's brother. But with Tim, she did everything she could to sabotage him including keeping the info about the cost from him so he would find out in the most painful way possible. Also, she made sure he was really worked up over which Bible they used. All of this kept him distracted from realizing that his homeschool education was worthless. He tried again in Wisconsin, but she scuttled that too. She had a little help from the pandemic, but I am sure she was pressuring him to come home then as well. Now, here he is with a house not far from Mamho which will be filled to the brim with junk and probably a giant picture of Jill over their bed. Tim creeps me out, but I do feel sorry for him.

You know, I have low vision and so I have to pay for a lot of things that most people take for granted that they are able to do. My mother is in her 80s and has no desire to get up on a ladder to hang a curtain rod and has arthritis in her fingers, so the things she used to be able to do aren't possible anymore. Both of us would kill for a good reliable handyman. And neither of us are rubes or lazy. I don't know if Chad thinks those jobs are beneath him or if he just doesn't know how to market himself. Even if he is just doing handyman work, I hope he is at least insured. He could make good money doing stuff like that if he was reliable and did a good job.

Meet the Parents: Gil and Kelly Jo Bates
Meow Mix replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Bringing Up Bates
I'm not a parent, but I am not sure I would want to make it public that my kids would love to move to another state and live with one of my other kid's in-law family. Jeb and Jud are old enough that saying that means something more than it would if they were around five and just had a good time at someone else's house. Gil and Kelly are so clueless that the reason Jeb and Jud want to move there is because they probably get attention and get to be just kids. At leas there they don't have to listen to Gil go on about whatever hateful sermon he is writing or listen to Kelly go on about how busy she is.
