I had to think about FJ tonight. My brain first went to The Man from UNCLE, but I didn't think it was right. So I thought about what other shows were on in the 60s and finally landed on Star Trek, and came up with the correct FJ just in the nick of time. Was there a Man From Uncle movie? I also got the TS of Harry, wisdom, Memorial Day, spa, Don Juan, and Jarlsberg.

Archive game for me for Tuesday's game. For some unknown reason, my DVR didn't record. Instaget FJ. I knew Saturday Night Fever, but blanked on what the second movie was. But I got quite a few of the five million TS last night. Some were quite surprising! Ones I got include hallowed, Cool (a guess, based on Chill in the clue), Big Daddy, roses, blue, chrysanthemum, Black Stallion, Elizabeth Taylor, and Seattle Slew. If I'd been able to see the photo of Sam Kinison, I would have gotten that one, too. I did not get it from just the clue, though.

"Women in Mythology" is a different construct than "Women Authors". The first doesn't bother me at all. The problem I have with "Women Authors" is that there is no corresponding "Men Authors" category, just "Authors" where the assumption is that it will refer to a male author. Also that it's grammatically incorrect. "Women in Mythology" is fine, like women in sports, women in space, women in the 90s (not in their 90s).

I am looking forward to seeing the finished mini-chairs! I hope they work out well.

Instaget, or perhaps instaguess FJ for me tonight. Mythology isn't my strong suit, but "against" led me to "anti" which led me to the correct response. I could not have told you who she was. I also got the TS of The Martian, aneurysm, Will & Grace, axon, and axman. Michael reminded me a lot of Keanu Reeves.

Oh, that's lovely! I was mostly in Svalbard, with only a couple of days in Oslo for Norway proper. If we passed by each other, it would have been in the airport! Oslo is a far more interesting city than I expected. We had limited time there, so missed a lot. I'd go back just for the museums, I think. ETA: I did make it to 8 last night, but only just. I was nodding off while I brushed my teeth! I slept like a stone until around 2:30, which for me is exceptional. Seven hours! In a row! Unheard of. The darkness at that hour surprised my sleep-deprived brain, since I had been above the Arctic Circle for the past couple of weeks. The sun won't set there until August, and it won't actually get dark dark until something like November, when the sun will set and not rise again until March. Even more remarkable was that I was able to go back to sleep, but it was intermittent until I got up at about 6. There may be an afternoon nap in my future...

I finally made it home! And I officially despise Heathrow as an airport. It is so gangly and disorganized if you have to change terminals when transiting through. It's probably fine as a starting or ending point, but damn, it's confusing. And so much walking, even after you've taken the train and/or bus. I realized sometime in the middle of the night that I never got a confirmation number for my re-booking, so I was anxious until I had my boarding pass in hand. I barely napped either at the airport all night or on the flight home, and was fading fast by the time I pulled into my driveway. Getting home energized me a bit, so I was able to unpack and all. But now it's not even 7pm Eastern, and I'm ready to hit the sack. Of course, 7 Eastern is something like 1 am in Norway, so there's that. I'm going to try to stay awake at least until 8, but who knows! And tomorrow, I'll have to figure out how to file a claim for the delay. Keeping us five hours in the plane at the gate is just ridiculous. They should have deplaned us a lot sooner. It was a great trip to Svalbard!

Somehow, I got 5/5 this week. No idea how I manages that!

I am stuck in Heathrow, so another archive game for me. I did get FJ tonight — because of the movie with Tilda Swinton many years ago. It stuck with me. I also got the TS of Beethoven’s 5th, Lite-Brite, The Hate U Give, San Juan Hill, and Taoism. I am stuck in Heathrow because my flight to Dulles was cancelled AFTER we sat on the plane for nearly five hours. They did at least feed us while we waited for a fuel pump to be repaired/replaced, but they could’t get it fixed. Meanwhile, the first ones off the plane got hotel rooms while the rest of us had to fend for ourselves and get reimbursed. Some lucky ones also were re-booked by the airline before we all made it off the plane. I did not get a voucher, nor was I immediately re-booked. I had to stand in line at customer service to get a new flight, which leaves at 8:00 tomorrow morning. And since it was after midnight by the time that booking was made, and I have to change terminals, I opted not to try to find a hotel room for what would amount to three or four hours. I can’t even change terminals (from 5 to 2) until five this morning. It’s just after three now. I don’t usually sleep on planes, but I might this time!

Definitely sightings. The Svalbard reindeer has been protected from hunting since the 50s, I think. Or maybe it was 50 years ago. Either way, reindeer is not on the menu anywhere in Svalbard. We did finally get to see a polar bear, too! It was really a cool experience. I am now back in Oslo, and have caught up until Wednesday’s game. Monday: I did get FJ, and I learned it from The West Wing. TS I got were Stellaluna, gondola, Ginza, and Muriel’s Wedding. Tuesday: Instaget FJ, plus the TS of Pope’s funeral, person & Peron, Strait of Dover, and peristaltic waves. Wednesday: I had to think about FJ, but got it in the nick of time. There were an awful lot of TS! I got Vienna (if it’s Strauss, it’s Vienna!), DoorDash, nocturnes, waltz, Ally Sheedy (on a guess, since I couldn’t see the photo), Buena Vista Social Club, Kevin McCarthy, and Fagin.

I’m not incommunicado just yet! I hade to think about last night’s FJ briefly, so it wasn’t quite an instaget, but it was close. And I got the TS of Lake Erie, Columbus, Akron, colonel, England, and Pennsylvania. We had Svalbard reindeer this morning, and more walrus this afternoon! No polar bears yet, but there’s still time!

Greetings from Svalbard, where today we saw a walrus and a large pod of Beluga whales! It was estimated that there were 40-50 whales in the group. It was awesome. So, of course, it was an archive game for me, and I did not get FJ in Thursday’s game. I did, however, get the TS of flounder, Maze Runner, chairman, minuteman, and handicapping. We’re out of the fjords just now, so there’s internet, but who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Instaget FJ for me for Wednesday’s game. I knew the franchise and that Geena is an archer. Wow, there were a lot of TS! I got the beach, collapse, primate, cetaceans, limestone, carbon, Sir Walter Scott, plexiglass, ha-ha, and vet. Many years ago, I read a book called “The Ha-ha”, and I remember looking up the definition at the time. I don’t remember much else about that book, though. I suspect I would have gotten more of the TS if I could have heard or seen some of the clues. Archive game for me, and from what y’all are saying, I think I’m okay with that!

I have long thought that couples should either live in separate wings of a large house, sharing common areas like kitchen and living room. Or maybe in separate apartments next door to each other and just visit.

I did not get FJ for Tuesday’s game. I also got Algonquin stuck in my head, and didn’t know about a Lakes group. But I did get the TS of Eagles, Great Mouse Detective, and triangulate. Very sad that the Eagles was a TS.

Archive game for me, as I sit in the British Airways lounge in Dulles Airport, waiting for my flight to Heathrow. It was interesting that the archive person commented on Mayim’s pauses. Instaget FJ, and it seemed awfully easy for an FJ, especially compared to some others we’ve had recently. I also got the TS of Steinbeck, conifers, Gulf Stream, Cuba, Pensacola, and calcium. No idea when I’ll post again. The time difference and possible lack of internet will make it challenging!
-
I’m at Dulles Airport now, and imagine my surprise when the agent told me I got access to the British Airways lounge with my upgrade! The food’s okay, but the best part is the comfy seats, each with a table and outlet/charging port. And I don’t have to drag all my luggage with me when I use the bathroom! That is undoubtedly the worst part of travelling alone.

It's raining pretty hard here right now, and there are about a dozen little birds (mostly house finches) taking shelter on my covered front porch. They're lined up on the railings, and even perched on the decorative hangings, porch swing and chains for the swing. It's so cute!

Like the episode of Bewitched where Tabitha gives herself black polka dots and her Black friend white polka dots? Or the episode of MASH where they give the racist guy "Black blood" and also put him in dark face? It was done to teach us that all our blood is the same, but it was awkward even then.

Is it wrong of me to expect journalists not to say things like "You might have saw something."? Or, "We seen this other thing."? -

Related peeve, and one I've peeved about before, but since it's raining today, and I have a long drive this afternoon, it's worth repeating. People who don't turn on their headlights in the rain! No, y'all, your automatic lights do not always turn on your taillights. Please do so manually so I can see you when you're driving below the speed limit in the left lane.
