The waffle bit was not well-thought out. The box obviously would have been opened before for Joanie to put the cash in, so there wasn't any need to open all the boxes at the store. Tyler's hair made me laugh out loud, too. And I also loved the callback with the family photos.

I barely recognized Jen Carroll, and it wasn't just the awful hair, though that didn't help.

Totally agree. For both the QF and the EC, they were told to make what they wanted with very few constraints. If you can't make your "own food" with those stipulations (or lack thereof), then I don't know how you can.

Surprise! The Best Movie Cameos Ever
Browncoat replied to Spartan Girl's topic in Everything Else About Movies
I had no idea either! I'll have to pay more attention the next time I watch. -
Can't wait to hear his interview story on Monday.

Well, bummer. After middle woman calmed down a bit, I was rooting for her or Kyle. Ben needs to chill out a bit with the buzzer. Overall a decent game, though. Not too many TS that I remember. I did get bronc and Edward Lear, but I could have sat here all night and never come up with FJ. I guess I don't watch enough prime-time TV.

It's the only Melville story I like!

FJ today was an instaget for me, too. And I agree about her, @mojoween! I felt kind of bad for him. And he seemed so crushed when one of his first responses (I don't remember which one) was wrong. He kind of shut down for a bit. TS I got include the surprising one of Calaveras County, Scrivener (I would prefer not to.), adverb, Hawai'i, Gal Gadot, and Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.
-
Hope you feel better soon! FJ was an instaget for me today, too. No idea why -- I guess the "unruly" part of the clue led me to "order". Much better game today with far fewer TS. Except the Hitchcock category, of course. I don't think I got any of those, either. The only TS I got was cock-a-leekie soup. And I knew the Mad Hatter's hat had a 10, but I just could not remember the other number, or in which order they were.
-
The category was "U" Love Music, so whatever the response was, song or artist, it had to start with U. There was also Under The Boardwalk as a response. I guess I should have taken world history instead of world geography in high school!

I know nothing of Usher, so I missed that one, too. I've heard of him, but haven't heard of (or heard) any of his songs. Well, until now, of course. I got goanna thanks to Crocodile Dundee, and my immediate and horribly wrong response to the element named for the sun was solarium. Heh. I did get firmament, Adriatic (thanks, Cheers!), Toy Hall of Fame, Women's Hall of Fame (a wild guess), slow, Japan, Uranium, gaucho, and reflexes. Way too many TS today, and still they didn't clear the board! No clue on FJ. Congrats to the champ again, but please don't ever wear that particular shade of purple with that particular shade of pink plus a dark blue tie ever again. Maybe I'm not fashionable enough, but I really don't think those colors go together.

I finally got to see it tonight, and I agree. It was an interesting slice of Florida life that no one ever thinks about, especially that close to the House of Mouse. I have to think a little more about the ending. I mean, obviously it was a fantasy, but whose? Moonee's or Jancey's? But I suppose if you're going to have a fantasy about running away to live happily ever after, why not Cinderella's castle? I loved the way Willem Dafoe handled the pedophile, and really the kids in general. You could tell he actually cared about his people even while mostly being powerless to help them. It's also interesting to compare these "projects" to the ones depicted in Moonlight.
-
I suspect it was because she ran the Mozart category in her first game. I was sad that Russians! was a TS, too! And surprised that new champ missed Chuck Yeager. Not so surprised that TWA was a TS, though. It's been gone for a while. As with most of y'all, FJ was an instaget.

I loved the show in its original run, and the special was mostly fun, too. Seeing the clips again made me howl with laughter — I don’t care how many times I’ve seen it, hearing Carol say, “I saw it in the window and I just had to have it” about the dress made from curtains will always be funny. But I could have done without Jim Carrey and some of the others. And Vicki Lawrence looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. I also wondered if they’d planned more with Jim Nabors that had to be cut.

S01.E06: A Patch, a Modem, and a Zantac®
Browncoat replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Young Sheldon
The first papers published on H. pylori definitively being the cause of ulcers were in 1984 and 1985. According to the CDC website, the NIH didn't believe it until about 1994, and even in 1995, most people were still being treated for stress instead of for bacterial infection. So, if this is set in 1989, a bacterial cause wasn't widely accepted at that time. The big push for H. pylori's connection to ulcers wasn't until 1997. https://www.cdc.gov/ulcer/history.htm -
I finally got caught up! This season has been a bit uneven, but so have the other ones, I suppose. I did love Joan playing poker. I should have seen it coming, but somehow I didn't. Loved the return of the neighbors, too, in that episode and also in the Thanksgiving one. Sam constantly ending up in their house cracked me up. The continuity has been good, too -- the return of Cheeto, the appearance of Tank, and Tim calling Heather, "Heater" when she had to get up and go cook dinner. I also laughed out loud at Sam just sitting there, eating corn while mayhem swirled around her. Just oblivious to everything but that wonderful corn. Matt's expressions when she leaned over to say something to him were priceless as well. Not a huge fan of that braid wrapped around her head, though. The actress is an underused gem -- she was really good in the middle child segment as well.

S01.E06: A Patch, a Modem, and a Zantac®
Browncoat replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Young Sheldon
What year is this show set in? It's only been fairly recently (20 years or so) that the bacterium H. pylori was accepted as the primary cause of ulcers. It was discovered as the cause in the early 80s, but not accepted as such until sometime in the 90s. -
Instaget FJ for me today -- I could only think of one Roman emperor, and it just happened to be the right one! I had sympathy for middle guy since I always initially think Elba belongs to France, too. And yo, end girl, Florida's not a country! I did manage to come up with a few TS -- cruise ship, squeal and sugar cube. I probably got squeal from having seen Deliverance. Or possibly also from the Little House books, in which (I think) they mention using every part of the pig but its squeal. Who knew Laura Ingalls and family could be so helpful for Jeopardy? That's two clues just this week! LOL

You're missing out, @proserpina65! I have lost count of how many times I've seen the originals (I turned 13 the summer the first one came out, but passed for 11 to get the kid ticket price!) because I love them so much, and I know how you feel. After being burned by the Trilogy That Must Not Be Named (only saw each of those once), I was reluctant, but I absolutely loved the first of the new trilogy. And I've requested the day off work on Dec 15 to see the newest installment. Side note: I actually have the (almost) real originals -- "Episode IV" has been added to the crawl, but it was before Lucas got his grubby hands on CGI and wrecked them. Han shot first!

I am skeptical as well, since those are just modifications of existing bases, not entirely new and different structures. Also, Pluto is definitely still a planet in my mind. As for tonight, I feel like I should have known FJ, but couldn't come up with anything at all. It seems obvious in retrospect, but apparently I don't know enough about flags or the Bible. So many TS! And surprising ones, too! I think New Hampshire was the most surprising -- The Old Man is on the back of the New Hampshire quarter, for god's sack. Gone With The Wind was also surprising. They should have been able to get that just from "Civil War" in the clue. I also got favoring, Narragansett, There Will Be Blood, pericardium, thymus and birds.

The Andy Griffith Show - General Discussion
Browncoat replied to Maverick's topic in The Andy Griffith Show
It's always nice to hear when a celebrity who portrays friendly and nice characters is actually friendly and nice in real life. I watch Andy on a local station every day, sometimes supplemented with TVLand (or replaced if the local station shows an ep I don't particularly care for, like the exploding goat one). ETA: Tonight's episode is "Citizen's arRAYest! Citizen's arRAYest!" I am glad the local station is showing a Gomer-centric ep today. -
DNA does not have eight bases. DNA has four bases. I was so distracted by them trying to tell me DNA has eight bases that I missed that one. And I'm pretty sure I would have gotten it had the clue been correct in the first place. I'm still a little incensed, and wonder what they think the eight bases are. Ahem. I did get wampum, Emma, Of Human Bondage, Wellington, You better shop around, Hadrian and Heat Wave. I also correctly said Doc Martens, but I incorrectly said Jimmy Choo instead of Manolo Blahnik. I initially just said fringe for FJ, but then realized they wanted a phrase, and somehow came up with lunatic in the nick of time. I believe I got that because Laura Ingalls wanted to cut a fringe in her hair and Ma referred to it as a lunatic fringe? Or I could be making that up....
-
I missed Jerry Orbach at least partly because I didn’t know there was a theatre named after him. Or am I thinking of a different clue?
-
Instaget FJ, and I am not remotely the demographic. I also thought it started as trading cards, like baseball cards used to be. Congrats to grape soda guy! Is it wrong that all I could think about during his story was Radar O'Reilly and his Grape Nehi obsession? I got the TS of Mercury, artichokes, plums, Betty Cooper, and the surprising one of Howl. What else do you think of when you hear the name Alan Ginsberg? And I LOVED that Bloom County was a question!

Ditto.
