I totally agree. I don't really care about Snoke's backstory, either. It just doesn't matter. To quote another 80s movie.

It was clear to me that Snoke was abusive and controlling, and Kylo was unhappy. The victim (Kylo) was bound to turn against the abuser eventually. With Rey's help, Kylo knew he was strong enough to break free. And he had to choose between what is right and what is easy (tm Dumbledore) -- he chose easy, Rey chose right. Kylo may still be unhappy, but he's a free agent now. Also, I didn't particularly think the death of Snoke was funny -- it was more of a hell yeah moment to me. Pretty awesome. Snoke was so focussed on the Kylo/Rey drama in front of him, and so focussed on Kylo's conviction, that he didn't twig to what that conviction was.

I totally agree. Although she did deserve to lose the money for "Scrooged". Well, one of them knew Reconstruction. Our champ apparently thinks "antebellum" means after the war instead of before the war. Too bad they couldn't have updated their Zimbabwe clue, since Mugabe isn't president any more. Oh, and with Bacillus subtilis, the b in subtilis is silent -- just like in the word subtle, Alex. I got Holiday Inn -- it was just on TV this weekend -- Bordeaux (a wild guess), pall, Our Town (come on, Stage Manager!), and angel shark. I have owned angel fish, so obviously knew that wasn't an angel fish. Iwo Jima immediately came to mind for FJ, since it's pretty much the only battle I can name. I did try to think of a named battle in Italy, but couldn't, and so stuck with Iwo Jima. Terrible game tonight, but at least Kate started at the tops of categories.

It also reminded me of Raiders of the Lost Ark, when the evil guy took out what at first looked like some horrible torture device, but it turned out to be a coat hanger. Loved the bait and switch in both movies.

Well, hell. Of the three, Kate was my least favorite. I *could* like her if she'd start at the tops of categories, but alas. I admit, it took me a second for FJ, but I was distracted by something shiny on another website. I got Skylab, Versailles, was shouting perennial! at the former champ, poppies (in a Wicked Witch voice), and camera obscura.

I still miss the knife-draw to choose teams. And not just team leaders who then choose the rest of their teams, but whole teams.

Also, to the person upthread (sorry, I can't find it) who complained that there were too many plot lines and everyone was all separated -- in Empire, Act II of the original trilogy, there were multiple plot lines and everyone was separated. Luke was off on Dagobah, Han and Leia were fighting giant space slugs, etc., etc.

Indeed. He looks better now than he ever has. I mean, he was okay in the original Star Wars, but went through a rather unfortunate time for the other two. Now, though? Dayum. And not nearly old enough to be my grandfather -- he's juuuuust right!

I want a porg friend. I want a porg friend to go with the Ewok I got back in the 80s. Let the hate begin! More thoughts -- Mark Hamill looks better now than he ever has, scruffy beard and all. This was a great movie for eye-candy -- almost as good as the Brendan Frasier Mummy, with all the pretty boys. I also forgot to mention how stunning I thought the Red Velvet Cake planet was. The tracks the speeders made through the cream cheese frosting, sending up clumps of cake were so beautifully done, particularly when seen from above. I definitely want to see this again. Probably multiple times.

So many TS tonight! Starting with Ronald McDonald -- given a BMS for McDonald with fast food in the clue, how could Craig not have gotten the Ronald part? I also got Life On The Mississippi, tulip tree (I have one in my yard), cypress, San Antonio, Baal, and Arthur Miller. When in doubt about a playwright, pick Arthur Miller. And I think there were quite a few more that I missed as well. FJ took me about a half second to focus on the Kenya/Africa part of the clue and not the 1994 part, and then was an instaget. Congrats to the new champ!

I disagree. They encountered the children, one of whom picked up a broom using the Force. Those kids and kids like them around the galaxy need hope to become part of the Resistance. Rose and Finn gave them that hope. I just got back and I thought it was a great second act. It advanced things just enough as a build up for the third act. You're not supposed to get all the answers in the second act. Things should still be unresolved in the second act. I teared up every time Leia was onscreen, and the tears spilled over with the card at the end about "our Princess, Carrie Fisher." It slayed me. I was so relieved initially that she was able to use the Force and survive her unscheduled EVA that I forgot that it was cheesy. I'm still not ready for her to be dead. And I did fall for the Kylo/Luke saber battle. I even gasped when Kylo made his run at Luke and Luke didn't appear to even sidestep Kylo. So much relief to see Luke behind Kylo! And to realize that Luke was a projection. But then, of course, Luke evaporated for reals, like Obi-Wan did. I guess we really are passing on the torch to the new generation of Rebels. Loved the Luke/Leia scene -- it got terribly dusty in the theater when he kissed her on the forehead. But everyone in my theater laughed when Rey got hit on the head with the saber. Loved Kylo killing Snoke. It was not entirely unexpected, and perhaps even broadly foreshadowed, but I still thought it was great. Snoke was creepy, but not menacing, imo, and we're well rid of him. I'm not so sure Kylo was telling Rey the truth about her parents. On the other hand, it does tie in well with the broom kid -- strong Force in a kid with no parents? Were those the Jedi books on the Falcon? I'm already ready to see it again! I may have more thoughts after a second viewing.

And sometimes, when you've got it coming out both ends, you use the tub because it's closest to the toilet, where you're sitting. You make do with what you have nearby. And clean like crazy once the bug has passed. As it were.

I laughed out loud at the bouncy house scene even though I'd seen it forty-seven million times in previews. If anything, I wish they'd shoved each other simultaneously a few more times. It was hilarious! Not sure how they kept straight faces.

Yet another FJ that I should have known! I made the connection between Akron and rubber and tires, but couldn't make the leap to Goodyear and blimps. Maybe I need a nap. But I somehow got two of the Steinbeck TS -- The Red Pony and Cannery Row -- despite despising Steinbeck and having avoided his books as much as possible. I also got thumb and capricious. Definitely. People who like them hunt them around here, too, and also pronounce it more-REL. And don't get me started on Alex's weird John Cleese "accent". As much as I liked Bryce, and am sad to see him go, I kind of had to root for Craig, since he's a local.

Not only was I sad that Glen Campbell was a TS, I was really sad that the Grateful Dead were! I correctly guessed Tigris for Bryce's missed DD, and also got Borneo. FJ was another that seemed obvious in hindsight, although I don't think I knew that Marquez won a Nobel Prize. I said Salinger, knowing it was wrong, but mostly because he was such a recluse.

So did I, since the name of the house was the Hatchet House! Sometimes I crack myself up.

Good grief. It hasn't been that long since I saw the movie, "Dunkirk", but I completely blanked on FJ today. When it was revealed, it was a real "Duh. Of course." moment for me. I even know a kirk is a church! However, I was able to come up with Macbeth, wall, albatross and Big Night. Big Night is a wonderful movie! If you are fans of Tony Shalhoub and Stanley Tucci, it's a must-see. And of course, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner rears its ugly head again with the albatross.

I just finished the book, and will see the movie soon. In the book, Auggie's mother was Brazilian -- couldn't they find anyone more ethnically suitable than Julia Roberts? Although, she did play a Portuguese girl in Mystic Pizza, so I guess it sort of works?

FJ was another instaget for me, and so much so that I didn't believe I could possibly be right. It just seemed way too obvious to me, even though I've mostly seen that symbol in black and white. I would like to thank the game of Risk for my knowing the Kamchatka Peninsula. Always a highly valued territory. I also got carbolic acid, and Guinan. Ben's guess of Data for that one was pretty bad -- Data's an android, not an alien, and while he did occasionally tend bar, he wasn't really the bartender. I have to admit I felt kind of bad for the guy from Charlottesville for not being fast enough on the buzzer for Monticello! I like Lakedra, too, but am glad Charlottesville guy got enough by the end so that it wasn't a runaway.
