The Best Worst Movies Ever: What Do You Hate Watch?
Browncoat replied to Luckylyn's topic in Everything Else About Movies
I might do it for $500, but $50? No way. -
I work in a school, and I really want one of the teachers to write, "Every word in that sentence was wrong." on a student's test.

Girls were considered old maids if they weren't married by around 18 or 19, so it isn't surprising that older boys and even young men would show an interest in teenagers. I'm about halfway through Prairie Fire, and I have waffled back and forth on how I feel about it so many times, I've gotten whiplash. For a bit, I'll be really interested and enjoy it, but then it'll piss me off. I went fairly quickly through the first bit, until Laura and Almanzo got married, and have liked all the bits at Rocky Ridge, but Rose is a piece of work. I wonder how her life would have gone if there had existed a diagnosis and medication for bipolar disorder (which she clearly has).

Alpacas seem more baby-faced to me than llamas, if that makes sense to anyone other than me.

Gwynedd had a little vocal fry going on in her endless interview. Between that and the Stan Lee category, I'm surprised they cleared the board in the first round. It took me a minute for FJ, but I also said the Mormons. I'm going to pretend they would have accepted that. I was really surprised that fortune cookie was a TS. And just a little surprised that Panem was. I guess it's been long enough since Hunger Games was a thing that people have forgotten. And given Santa Anita in the clue, it was a bit surprising that jockey was a TS, too. I also managed Pompidou Center, knave, and Pinto.

I saw this last night, and it was a little jarring. But overall, I thought it was a pretty good adaptation.
-
I mostly wish they'd been able to show some of the other students who became important later. Maybe instead of showing Susan Bones being sorted, we could have seen Cho, or Luna, or even Lavender. Or, even if we didn't see them being sorted, at least have them in the background somewhere. I suppose they might have been, and I just can't pick them out of the crowd, but I don't think those were. We never hear about Susan Bones again.

Tonight, either the two challengers were mumbling at first, or I need to get my hearing checked. Since it cleared up later in the game (perhaps the show people reminded them during the break), I'm going to assume it wasn't my hearing. Speak up, people! For FJ, I first thought the 12 days of Christmas, until I read/listened to the entire clue, then it was an instaget. Bell surprised me as a TS, and I thought Alex was awfully quick to jump in and rule Kevin incorrect on Lonelyhearts. I mean, it was obvious that Kevin left off the s, but with all the mumbling going on, he might have been given a chance to say it again. Or someone else might have been given the chance to answer, for that matter. Other TS I got were hinny, walking papers, autonomous, and Orkney. Loved having Harry Potter and Monty Python clues! Ministry of Silly Walks, hee!

Didn't Poe tell Finn the plan while Finn, Rose and DJ were on Snoke's ship? I remember they were all communicating with each other.
-
I don't remember a second dreadnought, but Snoke's ship was pretty impressive. The escape plan was that everyone would board the shuttles and head for the red velvet planet, while cloaked (and thus undetectable) by the main transport's shields. Holdo and the main transport would draw fire from the star destroyers and Snoke's ship and lead them away from the shuttles and the planet, probably not jumping to light speed until the shuttles were safely on the surface, if at all. Then, after the transport was destroyed, the First Order would believe all of the Resistance was dead. Unfortunately, that plan and the shuttles were revealed (thanks, DJ!), and the plan had to change. Holdo alone made the decision to jump to light speed through Snoke's ship. While she was always meant to sacrifice herself, it was not meant to be in that manner.

It's kind of hard to explain in writing, but it's sort of the opposite of up speak. The voice goes down, sometimes words are extended or elongated, and sometimes has kind of a gravelly quality, which is the part that made my throat hurt. I wish I could think of a specific example, but Ami had it in spades. I noticed vocal fry with her more than up speak, though she did that, too. There's a woman at work who does both at the same time, which is fascinating. I often end up not listening to what she's saying because I'm trying to figure out how she does that. Still can't quite figure it out.
-
Glad Ami's gone. Her voice was making my throat hurt. FJ was another one that I should have gotten, but blanked on. We have too many in Virginia, and I couldn't think of anything not in Virginia, even though I knew it wasn't one here. Boo, hiss. I did get a few TS, including brown gown, Star-Spangled Banner, helium, Yokohama, Ecuador, Endurance, and Tennessee Ernie Ford. If only I had thought about Tennessee Ernie Ford while I was trying to figure out FJ, I might have gotten it.

I am thrilled that the show is back, but I really wish it weren't on Wednesdays. I have so many things already scheduled on Wednesdays!

Yay for the knife draw! I just knew salad guy was gone as soon as he suggested a salad. Salads are great, I love a good salad, but salads are not generally food truck/hangover fare.
-
What made that bit was that the exterminator guy seemed to be completely clueless about what he was saying. I don't know how he kept a straight face. I also loved the re-purposed dog kennel. "Thanks for my playhouse!"
-
I'm with y'all on Ami's vocal fry and up-speak. I was hoping for either of the other two to win. Also agree about Alex and the French category. That was painful. I just said Yukon for FJ as well, and am pretending that they would have accepted that. For TS/missed DD, I got the more the merrier, Delta, electroencephalogram, Tales OF The South Pacific, and Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. But I couldn't figure out why they would pick all the clues in a category except the last one. Why leave the highest dollar clue? Sometimes the DDs are there, too.

This was my favorite episode of the season!

We got half of Jeopardy due to football. FJ was an instaget for me, and it doesn’t hurt my feelings that Donna lost. But since I only saw half the game, I have to reserve judgment on the new champ. Do we need to add C.S. Lewis and Lewis Carroll to the Sinclair Lewis/Upton Sinclair confusion?
-
Of course it’s all smaller. The Empire and the First Order keep blowing up planets and even entire solar systems!
-
Add me to the annoyed by Donna list. I do admire her betting, but shut up already! Also, she started at least one category with the second clue, so there’s that against her as well. I feel like I should have gotten FJ, but I didn’t, and I also wondered if expel would have been accepted.
-
FJ was an instaget for me tonight. Mr. Clean was almost as boneheaded a guess as grape for the loganberry clue earlier. This might have been a reasonable game if they hadn't started at the bottoms of the categories and worked their way up! I'm glad neither of the women won just because of that behaviour. The new champ only did that when the women started out that way -- given the choice, he generally started at the top, didn't he? Or were they all annoying in that way? TS I got included planetarium, Golden Eagle, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (despite never having seen an episode), and Stuart Little Dorritt.
-
I also said Spain for FJ, then thought Denmark but knew both were probably wrong. Shirley Jackson as a TS was inexcusable. Springbok and hooey, the other TS I got, were not quite so inexcusable.

It was puppet Yoda!

Lobster Mac & Cheese is delicious, as was a lobster grilled cheese I had once upon a time in Connecticut. I have no idea what kind of cheese was on the sandwich, but it was not your standard grilled cheese. Yum!

Just got back from seeing it again, and it's even better the second time around. Things I missed the first time: Hux (or someone) saying that the Rebel ships are smaller and faster, so the larger First Order ships can't catch them. They just have to keep them reasonably close and wait until their fuel runs out. Which answers some of the comments above. Luke, when he was on the verge of killing Ben, saying that Snoke already had too much of a hold on Ben, and that's why Luke was tempted to kill him. So we know for sure, from the movie, that Snoke has been in mind-touch with Ben for a while, and thus Ben/Kylo is probably not redeemable. Which answers some other comments above. I paid more attention to Hux after Kylo took over -- unless Kylo is looking directly at him, Hux has a murderous gleam in his eye. Kylo better sleep with one eye open. Yoda saying that Rey already has everything she needs from the tree/temple/books. He knew the books were on the Falcon, and that's why he didn't hesitate to burn the tree down like Luke did. At that point, I don't think Luke knew the books were gone. How they got to the Falcon, though, is a question that probably won't be answered. And I paid more attention to Luke at the end -- of course all the clues were there that he was a projection! I just didn't notice them the first time. But knowing Luke was going to die didn't make it any easier to take. I was less overly sad at all of Leia's scenes, though, than I was the first time I saw it. I also don't think Holdo knew what she was going to do until she did it. I have no issue with her not telling Poe the plan. Not all information is for all people, although based on his past behaviour, she should have known he wouldn't take being left out well. I think I'm ready to see it a third time to see what else I missed! ETA one more thing -- I actually thought about this the first time, and I understand that the way it happened was just to get Finn and Rose together, but that still could have happened if Finn had set the speeder thing on a direct course for the battering cannon and then ejected out. Or maybe the speeder didn't have an auto-pilot? Still, he was close enough that it likely would have stayed on course after he got out. Rose still could have rescued him, and probably neither would be near death.
