S33.E03: Who Has This One in the Bag? LIVE CHAT
Browncoat replied to Whimsy's topic in The Amazing Race
Eh, as long as one of them can drive... Oh, wait. Geordie's not doing so well, either. -
I can't believe I missed FJ tonight. I don't know anything about "Lady of the Lake", but I focused on that instead of the Historic American part. The double S meant nothing to me. V-8 forehead slap when the correct response was revealed. But I did get the TS of Newfoundland, rat, Sanford & Son, trilobite, and Denmark. I would like to thank the Royals thread here at Primetimer for knowing Denmark. And we got a "genre"!

I went through exactly the same process, @ProudMary! And that makes two FJ in a row for me this week. I've probably jinxed myself now. The only TS I got, though, was Anne Rice. I should have gotten PT 109, but I was stuck with, "PT 1-0...ohhhhhhhhhh, time's up."

I watched this last night, and despite major misgivings about Nicole Kidman in the role, I thought she did a good job. In fact, I thought all the cast did well. The role didn't call for zany Lucy, it called more for serious businessperson Lucille -- Debra Messing would have been horrible (being horrible is par for the course with Debra, IMO). They really packed a lot into that one week, and, while I know most of it did not all happen at the same time, I thought it was good that they addressed all the elephants on that stage -- Vivian and Bill's dislike of each other/bickering, Bill's drinking, Lucy's opinion of Viv's weight, Desi's infidelities, and of course Lucy being accused of being a Communist. The only part of that that bothered me even a little was the J. Edgar Hoover part -- that was stretching things a bit too far, I think. The time jumps didn't bother me. I thought it was fairly easy to tell when we were, and I really liked the "interviews" with the older staffers. Overall, I liked it quite a lot.

Cats are secretly time travellers. They go into the future, and appear when you finally catch up to them in regular time.

Woo hoo! I also focused on the "brother" part of the clue, and actually got FJ right! Of course, I started off last week knowing FJ, and it all went downhill from there, but right now, there's hope! I also got the TS/missed DD of ghoul, Springsteen, When I'm Gone, Copenhagen, flukes, and Paul McCartney. I was both surprised and sad that Springsteen and McCartney were TS. And really surprised that Amy missed Copenhagen.

Family Ties: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

My brother has flurona -- he can't just get COVID, he has to get flu, too. Not sure if he got the flu vaccine, but he had the J&J shot back in August or September. I don't think he was boosted. So far, his symptoms are mild. -
If you are Martha Stewart, you have another room for crafting, separate from your gift wrapping and ribbon rooms.

Quoting myself because I now know who she is, having recently seen West Side Story. She's amazing in that as well!

Happy Birthday, @Toothbrush!

Yep. All those needle-sharp puppy teeth will get replaced by grown-up teeth.

FilmNight: Movies you watched recently

Thanks for the reminder that that's on Apple TV! I'd forgotten about it, though I'd really like to see it. -
Well, except that next Friday is Jan 14. Maybe the following Monday?

I mentioned to the front desk at one of my stays that I didn't need or want housekeeping, except maybe the trash cans. They said I could leave those outside my door if necessary, and they'd be emptied without anyone coming in the room. On that same trip, I actually ran into one of the housekeepers, and asked about that -- she said that was fine, but also handed me a couple of extra trash bags just in case.

I kept a bunch of Pound coins from my last trip to Scotland on purpose, because I really like the designs on them.

1/5 this week. If the rest of this year is going to be like this, I don't want to play anymore.

I completely blanked yet again on FJ tonight. I feel like it was another one I should have known, because I've heard of him and his story, but I don't know anything about the book. I did, however, get South Dakota and Nebraska, wren, and hawk.

Surely they could do better than that. Terrible choice. -

RIP, Mister Poitier. A class act. -
I did not get FJ again, although I certainly should have. I've been there! However, I did get the TS of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, thank you, Book of Mormon.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Browncoat replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
It looked to me like the dad, the red-furred one, was cooking and serving the meal, and mom, the lighter-furred one, was in the hot tub. I couldn't really tell who was making the bed at the end -- the scene was too short. Or do I have them mixed up, and mom has the red fur and dad has lighter fur? I watched it twice and tried to pay attention! -
S33.E01: We’re Back!/S33.E02: It Can’t Be That Easy

The flight attendants lost me with their extreme vocal fry when they first opened their mouths. I liked that they had random flags on the cakes. I feel like it made the task more challenging that it would have been if all the flags had been of EU countries. Including the UK flag was a little tricksy, but the race should be at least a little tricksy. I do always feel bad for the first racers to be eliminated. Maybe they should have the first leg as an uber-leg, and have the first elimination after the second instead of the way it worked last night. Especially if they're staying in the same city for the first two legs. -
I've stayed in several hotels in the past however long it's been since March 2020, and the only amenity I've noticed missing is the daily housekeeping. Frankly, I'm okay with that. Unless I'm staying more than a week, I'm good with not having people come in my room every day. Even in the before times, I would frequently put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door because I don't need new sheets and towels every day. Breakfasts at hotels that provide them have changed, but haven't gone away entirely. The hotel I stayed in over Christmas had a really nice hot breakfast buffet (including a waffle maker!), but the tables were all jammed together in the breakfast room. Zero social distancing. I grabbed what I wanted and took it all back to my room. And, since March 2020, I will take a wipe and wipe down the TV remote, all light switches, door handles, faucet handles, etc., as soon as I check in. I will even wipe down those plastic rods that you have to pull the curtains shut with.

The little girl, Agnes, I think, makes Gru pinky promise something in “Despicable Me”.
