  1. Hey @Netfoot please walk to the mall and provide updates so we know you are OK Hugs
  2. Thank you @Bastet I admit I am one who had never heard of the marine rescues. But I do remember that day clearly (and I live in Canada) I had left for work before the first plane struck and upon arriving at the office the manager was sitting at the reception desk and informed me the Pentagon had just been hit as well as informing me of other things that had happened while I was on public transit. Not much work was done in the office that day - we were clued to the TVs. Internet was spotty. And lunch was ordered in (sandwiches) But I did talk with someone who became a future client. There was a real fear that we would be attacked next. Going home that evening, on the subway platform I heard someone remark, think of all the pets that are not going to have their owners return. That evening I had to go to a church meeting. I remember thinking while driving how could people in those office buildings survive? Details were still very limited. When I got home, I remember tuning in to Peter Jennings and his campfire chat (as I recall he called it) in an effort to calm us all. Like @chitowngirl I have a 9/11 tradition - it is to watch the documentary done by two French film makers which focuses on a fire department located close to the twin towers.
  3. . Actually I like Brian Stelter and he was on CNN in Aug so I am glad he is back permanently
  4. Well, the remnants of Beryl have now made their way to Ontario, Canada. Heavy rain, t-stoms and risk of a tornado in some areas.
  5. I read somewhere that the entire water system was shut down last night, before the storm (7pm I think). That you were able to take a shower was due to residual water in the lines.
  6. This might be too late, but while you still have power, you could make ice blocks (I just use a loaf pan filled with water) and then place in a cooler if the power goes off. You can salvage the frozen meat that way. As I recall items in a fridge are good for 24 hours and freezer 48 as long as you don't open the doors much. Hoping the worst doesn't strike, hugs
  7. Thank you for the updates - it's nice to hear what is happening on the ground. In addition to wheely bin and covering tools - are you prepared for a lengthy power outage? With forecast wind speeds that is what I would worry about most.
  8. I love potato Caesar salad. Begin by steaming small potatoes until partially cooked. Then prick and transfer to a bowl with olive oil and crushed garlic and toss. Let marinate for several hours. Just before you are ready to cook the steaks, cook bacon strips and place the potatoes on the grill to char lightly. Remove potatoes from the grill and cube. Place in a bowl with crumbled bacon, Caesar dressing and chopped green onions. Toss. Sprinkle freshly grated parmesan on top. I always use jarred Caesar dressing since it is thicker. The salad is delicious when warm/room temp, or even the next day when any leftovers have been refrigerated.
  9. I, too, watch Survivor. For me, back to back 90 minute episodes of Survivor and TAR was too much so I would record TAR to watch in the following days. I agree about too many hidden idols, twists etc. IMO, the game/show got better in the second half.
  10. I think I would put all the kittens up for adoption - they are so cute! 8 weeks is the practice to be separated from mom, if you can figure that out. Although my first 2 kittens were younger than that when I adopted them. (5-6 weeks) The mother cat looks like my 2 year old tortie - it is amazing how her kittens look so different - not a calico or tortie among them. But 5 should be right for the kits. And yes 5 months before you can "fix" them
  11. When I asked my cat if she got me a M Day gift - she licked my nose. I guess a thoughtful, no fuss, low cost but priceless gift.
  12. WOW Brian Stelter is back as a commentator. Glad to see some wrongs being corrected. Not sure why for the Trump case, but I'll take it. And I actually like to see Jeffrey Toobin commenting on the Trump case. He does have a brain, although there is a certain irony.
  13. I am wondering if Victor would consent to Aunt Mamie joining Jordan in the cell. Then someone blows it up. Two birds, one stone. I don't want to watch either of them anymore.
  14. I was so disappointed that @Netfoot was not the greeter at the mat 🥲
  15. This episode should have been the show's finale.
  16. I could not help myself. During the episode I kept wondering . . . how does everyone keep their glasses so clean?
  17. I would like to nominate everyone who has tried to interpret the mod direction for a kindness badge 😀
  18. I can totally understand why the seasons were switched. Totally boring tasks - carrying balloons or looking for a special square coloured snowflake, then clown face makeup. I had a hard time staying with this episode (and I did take a nap between it and Survivor) Could not wait for it to end. The teams are boring and we don't need 90 minutes of bridge confusion. I have watched TAR since the beginning, so fingers crossed that it improves next week.
  19. Well, if you don't get up until 10am, no wonder you love permanent DST 😀 In the dark days of late December the sun doesn't get up until just before 8am - permanent DST would make this 9am. I agree it is depressing when it gets dark at 5pm - 8pm feels like midnight. And I hate time changes. BUT the point of my original post was why do we need to do it now when Europe will do it in three weeks (as we used to do) For those of us living in colder climates you can't really take advantage of the extra hour of daylight at the end of the day in exchange for darker mornings.
  20. Why are we (the US and Canada) changing clocks this weekend? Right now the balance between light and day is almost perfect as we are close to the Equinox. Pres Bush made a bad decision to enforce the change two weeks earlier than it used to be - we don't need an extra hour of daylight in March, and to wake up in the dark again.
  21. Too bad Mamie was not involved in that push.
  22. Fun fact. My father bought what would become our family cottage on a lake backed by woods in the early 70's. It was named Back of the Moon by the previous owner. I think to this day it has fewer amenities than the one in the film - no electricity or running water and an outhouse with a pail system (so you dig a hole and dump it every few days). It is only accessible by boat and a great place to escape to. Yes, there is internet, but I choose to have a cell phone plan for emergency only. But let me make this clear, the only murders that will be conducted are by my cat toward mice 😀
  23. Speaking of film noire and Gene Tierney and Vincent Price - have any of you seen Leave Her to Heaven?
  24. I think she said brunello - a very expensive type of wine.
  25. I spent too much time reading CNN. I did get 10/10 on the weekly quiz. Also thought about adopting a cockapoo puppy/dog. The cat talked me out of it.
