  1. @enoughcats, I can't thank you enough for mentioning this book. I just got it from the library on your recommendation, and it is truly stunning. His camera definitely did love Joan. The pictures reinforced to me that, unfortunately, I just cannot understand the physical appeal of Jean Harlow. On the other hand, if I am ever half as captivating as Myrna Loy I'll be a happy woman.
  2. This probably sounds silly, but I'd like to see something on Clara Bow just to see her famous red hair in glorious technicolor. When watching her films, I never seem to remember that she wasn't a brunette.
  3. Every time this thread rises to the top of the page I expect to see that she's popped. Boy, that dress leaves very little to the imagination. Is it LLR? (snerk)
  4. From the In Memoriam thread: Dr. Eliot *wink* Clayton has passed away.
  5. That's an excellent choice! I absolutely loved Emily's beach house on Revenge. Of course, Grayson Manor wasn't too shabby, either.
  6. Dang, my memories are all mixed up. I thought T-Bag cut it off himself with the axe because the team had left him handcuffed to a post (or something) and the police were closing in. Can anyone remind me how Abruzzi died?
  7. Has anyone here read the book The Polygamist's Daughter by Anna LeBaron (aka Not!Christine)? I just picked it up at the library.
  8. Auntie Mame "Ok, Chief, take 'em away. I'm going to go home and sleep with my wife."
  9. I must give a shout out to the signs on Hepburn's gate and the fact that they were her video representation. That left me chuckling for a good five minutes.
  10. That's part of the same two-parter, @Giuseppe, and I enjoy it, too. "Share with me, Chester."
  11. I recorded Dead Ringer and just watched it for the first time. "Enjoyable" probably isn't an appropriate word for such a morbid tale, but that's exactly what this movie was. (The ominous harpsichord music kept cracking me up.) Bette was great in both roles, and what a wonderful supporting cast of Karl Malden, Jean Hagen, and Peter Lawford. And you're right, the jewels and dresses were great!
  12. The "little ballerina's" rear end was inspirational. If anybody needs me, I'll be in the gym for the next three months.
  13. I don't know. I'm not a parent but I was once a teenage girl, and I think Sophia telling Dorothy would have blown up into a different set of problems. I don't think there were any great options for Sophia in this scenario. (And I'm not a fan of her as a parent, either.) Now that I think of it, we've seen their Brooklyn apartment and it wasn't spacious. How did Dorothy not hear John arrive, particularly if a verbal altercation ensued? Was she down in the cellar practicing her slow dancing with a rake?
  14. Well, dang. I got married last fall and my husband and I could have saved ourselves some serious hand cramps if we had known that pre-printed postcards were the in thing. I guess that's what I get for not having a Pinterest wedding.
  15. In the Christmas episode where Stan is dressed up as Santa, doesn't he mention that Katherine threw him out?
  16. That's what made me wonder if the cast ever brought it up to the showrunners. I mean, I wouldn't expect Rue to remember to question whether Blanche's mother's name was Elizabeth or Samantha, for example. But with something as overt as Miles's Golden Palace plotline, I'd love to know if anything was ever said, even if it was as innocuous as Betty and Harold muttering, "Well, this is...different," at a table read.
  17. I wonder if Betty and/or Harold Gould ever voiced concern or surprise about this plot to the writers, or if they were content to just cash their checks and go about their business.
  18. Clang, clang, clang, went the trolley. Clash, clash, clash, went the outfit.
  19. Holy smokes. The "portrait" episode is the only one I've never watched because it seemed beyond the pale, even by Brown standards. It was bad enough when I thought it was cobbled together from multiple pictures, but now to see that Robyn freakin cut her children's father's head out!?! There are no words.
  20. A few years ago, I made a concerted effort to watch several of the "classic" movies that I had heard of but never seen. I found Casablanca to be hard to stick with and highly overrated, which I know is an unpopular opinion so I'm glad to hear I'm not alone! (On the other hand, I absolutely loved Citizen Kane, which a lot of people recognize for its ingenuity but don't necessarily enjoy. Go figure.) I enjoy both Bette and Joan, but I still haven't seen WEHTBJ. I'll have to check it out when the series is over.
  21. Well, personally I keep mine in a display case next to my Faberge egg and first edition of Shakespeare's Folio. XD
  22. Yes! And Downton Abbey will always be Misselthwaite Manor to me.
